I had an unfortunate experience with Yonder Luxury Mountain Rentals. Before booking any listing with them, please review the Yelp reviews so you are fully informed on their unethical behavior and complete disregard for guest safety and customer satisfaction. The purpose of this detailed review is to prevent other guests from making a reservation on a Yonder listing based on the description only to find that the description is not accurate. The listing is described as follows: "Peaceful and tucked in the woods-yet minutes to I-40 for easy day trips" "This home is located in a peaceful, private mountain community" It also states it is a "relaxing setting" The main issue: Even though it takes about 10 minutes to get to the listing from the highway (which involves steep/gravel roads), there is constant, very loud noise from the highway that can be heard on the back porch (which has the view of the mountains), and in the entire residence if the windows are open. This was quite unexpected based on the listing description. After I had completed the booking request, Yonder sent a message to me with driving instructions and suggested printing out the instructions in case GPS failed to work on the way up. The written list of directions that were provided from Yonder made it appear the listing was "tucked into the woods". Yonder has continued to deny my refund request for 6 nights and has stated they will refund me for 2 nights due to them being booked by another guest. Yonder has admitted there is constant highway noise as evidenced by their edited listing description, yet they continue to tell me that their listing was accurately described at the time I booked the listing. I contacted Airbnb to discuss my concerns about the listing and they stated they couldn't do anything because of the house rules: 6. Cancellations/Changes. The cancellation policy listed on Airbnb at the time of booking will apply. Your booking ‒ and this Agreement ‒ pertains solely to this specific Property. If a member of your party has particular needs ‒ such as allergies or a medical condition ‒ for which this Property is ill-suited, Yonder will attempt to answer and address those concerns (preferably ahead of booking the Property), but such particular needs do not serve as a basis to seek a refund in the event you elect to vacate the property. What Yonder failed to disclose was that there was active jackhammering and sidewalk demolition directly outside the rental the entire stay. The windows were completely covered, the noise was so loud we couldn't take work calls, and the entire building was shaking. Construction workers told us Yonder had been informed beforehand, yet they still rented the unit at full price with zero warning. When we asked to check out early and requested a partial refund, Yonder hid behind their cancellation policy and offered almost nothing besides a small discount on a future stay that we will obviously never use. Booked a stay for a business group along with 14 other VRBO's. Literally the WORST experience with this one of booking large groups for the same event annually. Alyssa I've found her name to be, not that she gave it but was told when her mom or her manager or whoever called me back. Brenda who was nicer but instead of fixing the issue just sort of bailed on us. Alyssa called screeching at us with out giving an address or any indication of what in the world she was calling about. Interesting that when Brenda called she mentioned she had listened to a recording of the prior call. I never gave consent or was presented the option of that which is a felony in NC, were it says they are located. Not that I had anything to hide I just don't believe she did and if she did I would like to know so I can seek damages for my time. Anywho, seems at one point they were a decent company based on reviews but it's not looking so good today. Did they get too big? New management? We booked a property that turned out to be unsafe due to hazardous road conditions and a polluted lake (the home sits on the lake) because of Hurricane Helene. This poses a significant fire risk from propane and gas contamination. Both conditions are confirmed by state and local government. Almost all WNC, is without safe drinking water and electricity. Any essential resources needed to make this trip SAFE, would be taking away from the community. Despite our concerns and the imminent nature of our trip (just three days away), the company refused to provide any proof of safety or make accommodations for us. Safety should be a priority, and it's concerning that they would overlook such critical issues. However, Yonder has proved that they do not care for their customers safety and well being. They are in the business of scamming their customers out of their money. The way that they have handled their customers during this natural disaster is absolutely disgraceful. They have failed miserably in their line of communication and do not deserve anyone to continue lining their pockets with any more money. My wife and I rented the Whispering stream house to see if we wanted to spend a week here with the whole family next year when our daughter gets married. First of all, the view is great. It has five full bedrooms, numerous well-appointed baths, and numerous table games and TVs throughout. The kitchen is big enough to accommodate cooking for everyone if all the rooms were full. The parking might be tight if you bring more than 3 cars, though. There is a nice seating area in the side yard that is fenced with a fire pit. As of our rental, it is pet friendly, though no more than 2 dogs. 15 minutes to Hendersonville and about 30 minutes to Asheville. Found a photo album that showed the house had been renovated in 2012. It is still in good shape, but the furniture is dated and has a lot of wear. The cushions were faded, dirty, and torn. Some of the outdoor furniture was unusable due to rot or damage. The company was told, so that might be remedied soon. Keep us posted. The view is still spectacular, but the trees have grown up a bit so not as good as the photos on the rental site (nature gets 2 stars for blocking the view (lol) ). After the heartbreaking destruction caused by Hurricane Helene, I reached out to Yonder for next steps. Through my own research, I discover that the home is located on a lake polluted with propane, gas, and debris. State and local government have issued a Do Not Travel Advisory as the roads are UNSAFE or being used for first responders. Despite the obvious safety hazards, the company has refused to refund my booking and has NOT provided any updates on whether the property is safe to stay in. This is theft as they cannot render the service. The lack of communication and disregard for customer safety is appalling. I expected a "reputable company" to prioritize the well-being of its guests, but Yonder has failed miserably. I strongly advise anyone considering booking with them to think twice. Unfortunately, our trip was impacted by hurricane helene. I inquired about the condition of the property and received no substantive response. Obviously, we had to cancel the trip since they couldn't access the property or give an update. Then, less than 72 hours before check in, they told us the property was fine, that way they wouldn't have to refund our trip, even though no one in their right mind would go through with a trip not knowing if the property even existed until less than 72 hours before check in. Additionally, they list their properties on vrbo. Vrbo's policy for hurricane helene was the local real estate company WILL provide a refund if you had to cancel due to hurricane Helene. I am extremely disappointed and appalled by Yonder's lack of empathy and regard for safety for their customers during a natural disaster. My friends and I were expected to arrive at our rental property in 3 days despite the unsafe conditions of Lake Lure and surrounding areas. The area in which the property is located is currently considered unsafe for travel by the NC Department of Transportation, and voluntary travel of any kind is not permitted at this time. After numerous attempts to request a refund for our inability to travel safely and spend the weekend on the Lake that is known to be polluted with gas, propane, debris, and other elements which present significant health and safety risks, Yonder has refused to offer a refund or remedy the situation in any ethical way. My family and friends rented a property on Lake Lure for October 10, 2024. Tragically Hurricane Helene devastated the town where the rental home is located shortly before the planned trip. Despite calls and emails to Yonder, they refused to confirm that the home was habitable. Yet they also refused to cancel the booking or refund the payment. Local citizens were fleeing the area due to the devastation and lack of supplies. Local roads were damaged and are unnavigable. Government officials have mandated visitors to refrain from traveling to the area as the roads are deemed "dangerous" by the North Carolina Department of Transportation. There is no safe drinking water. Countless videos and news stories highlighted washed-out roads, a lake polluted with storm refuse, and the distressed local citizens begging for help and supplies to survive the aftermath of the storm. Ironically, their own website states travel to the area is unsafe. Even 3 days before the planned booking, Yonder refused to provide any update on the home and would not issue a refund. Yonder prioritized their profit over the safety of their guests and over the impact visitors would have on the stressed local community. The boat our group of 14 rented was double booked and neither the company nor boat owner let us know before our rental time - my friends were waiting on the dock for over 20 minutes when the man who delivers boats finally came to let us know. When we called to let Yonder know the situation they said they would look into it and call back, but that took two hours. It had more than enough space for all of us, a fantastic hot tub, and everything was CLEAN. This is a horrible management company. They are money grubbing and completely lacking in customer service. Every time we call and email, we get a different person. I want the home owners to know how poorly their homes are represented by this horrible company. We contacted them with 24 days notice, not 24 hours, and they would not provide any decent human customer service to let us out of the agreement. And once we arrived, it was not at all as advertised. There is a huge storage unit that is clearly been there for weeks because the wheels from the weight of it had sunk into the driveway. So they had plenty of time to let us know so we could decline this particular house. This ugly storage unit was all you could see when you approach the house and all you could see when you needed to leave the house. It was also blocking the one pathway to the door for guests. So we had to go through it the ordeal of an extra slope to get around it with our belongings to carry up to the house. It was such an inconvenience. It was absolutely not at all as advertised. And they were horrible about dealing with us. They did not refund any of our money for this inconvenience. First of all, They had the nerve to not let us Out of the agreement with 24 days notice. That is completely asinine. And then to have the storage unit that's not at all in any of the photos be at the house when we got there, Was absolutely crazy. Hot tub worked great! I would suggest more towels in the unit and a paved driveway. Don't try and go up to the cabin in snow unless you have snow tires or snow chains on the wheels. While the house was nice - the level of cleanliness was not what I expected for the price tag. There were half eaten marshmallows around the fire, glass all over the trash area, broken door handles, and leftover food on all of the plates. When we brought those things up - the Yonder team asked us if we'd like someone to come back and clean. During Covid, and the reason we chose somewhere so far away, we declined. We also needed a house with a washer and dryer because of the kids, and the washer wasn't working - we were told to "press harder than you think". All three adults tried, nothing. We let them no it was still not working and we did not want anyone to stop by. 30 minutes later - someone is at our place, without speaking with us, and showing us how hard we had to actually press (you needed a whole hand vs a finger) - and then said this happens all the time there. If it happens all the time - leave a note! There were many around the house. The person who cleaned the hot tub arrived early, without a mask to clean. We rented Cabin on the Water. Prior to coming we found out that our group of 4 had Covid. All vaccinated so we didn't think to buy insurance. Of course Yonder wouldn't refund any money or even change dates. Initially we were to meet 3 others there. Due to our covid they didn't meet us. It's a good thing they didn't. The house says occupancy for 12. It slept 8 barely. There were 2 wine glasses in the house, 4 bowls to eat out of and 6 plates. What kind of house that's supposed to accommodate 12 has so few ? I wouldn't recommend Yonder or this cabin. The back door was broken, the light in the bathroom didn't work, the ice maker in the refrigerator made about 2 cubes every 12 hours. For the price they charge for this home, it's definitely not worth it. read more

Is there a way of not giving any starts whatsoever? Giving one star is too much for this company. We have been lovers of vacation rentals for years and have always wanted to support these companies, as we are also proprietors of vacation homes overseas. We have never felt so unbelievably "ripped off" financially as we did with Yonder Vacation Homes. For me to try to make sense of their behaviors, I can only think that this company must be desperate for money and will try to take any penny from their customers. We rented one of their properties for three months to stay close and support a family member with Alzheimer's. We paid in full, upfront. Due to some complications, a family member had to be moved, and we communicated with them and told them with lots of notice that we wouldn't be able to stay at the house for the last month. They didn't care - no negotiation, no trying to rent the house for others, etc - OK - $5000 - they kept with an empty house. It was the contract that we were surprised by their lack of wanting to work something out with us, but it is what it is. However, they started to send high utility bills for the months that we weren't using the house and expecting us to pay - They charged our credit cards for these utilities that we didn't use. On top of that, they wanted to charge us extra cleaning fees - even though the house was clean after we moved out. Sorry for the long post, but there is more - Because we were at this home for two months, we had an incident where someone shipped us something after we moved out. When I contacted the Younder office to see if I could come pick it up, they said there was a $45 charge for me to pick up my OWN item. Seeing companies treat their clients and guests like this saddens me - I don't understand. I think a "good deal" is only when everyone feels good about the deal! read more

We rented the Innisfree Farm property with plans on staying for an entire week but we left the morning after check-in due to several issues with the house: First, the house has two glaring security flaws. The security chain to the left of the kitchen door is affixed to a board which is held in place by friction. It provides no security at all. The living room door has a GIAGANTIC gap between the door and the frame. Anyone could open the door from the outside with little effort plus it was a great place for SPIDERS to come in. This alone rendered the house unsafe to stay in for us. Second, the internet is absurdly slow. I ran SpeedTest while there. My best test was 5mbps down and 1mbps up. Basically unusable. Cell service is quite poor at the house as well. Shades in various rooms either will not open or close. Various sliding doors have duct tape on their handles, presumably so you will not try to open them. The master bedroom has outlets that aren't affixed to the wall and likely aren't code compliant. I have to sleep with a CPAP machine and I couldn't use those outlets, another reason we had to leave. The dirt road leading to the house is riddled with large ruts and potholes. If you're in an SUV you'll probably be fine but if you're in a car there's a good chance it will bottom out. Yonder's response to all of this? "No refunds!" read more

We thoroughly enjoyed our Thanksgiving getaway at the Lofts in downtown Asheville. There's just nothing like having your own little space right in the heart of things. And, boy is this in the heart of things! Anything we wanted to do, we were only minutes away by foot. I love a vacation where I can park the car upon arrival and not move it until we were ready to leave. These houses that Yonder hosts are beautiful, yes. But as a cleaner for these houses before, it is not as beautiful as you think. I used to work under a company called Clean City for these AirBnBs because I love to clean, that's why I got the job in the first place. The "clean guarantee" has traumatized me as a worker when cleaning the Yonder Mountain AirBnBs. Guests are ENCOURAGED to pick and find the one little hair on the baseboard that the cleaner missed out of the 5-9 bedroom house to get their money back and complain about it, which then goes to our boss, who was Crystal, and then our pay is TAKEN AWAY after spending 3-4 hours of tedious, hard, strenuous work trying to perfect these Airbnb's for the next guests to come in. It's hard work. And for us to lose our money over one little thing? It hurts. And hard to believe that something like this would exist. Disgusting We had to FACETIME our boss to show every nook and cranny of the house so they can have evidence and make sure that it is unrealistically spotless. Tiring to say the least. Eventually, Crystal fired me and I have found a new job with a boss who cares and appreciates my efforts, while also rewarding and recognizing me; not treating me like a slave to "hurry up" & "you HAVE to make things perfect OR ELSE.." We just returned from Brackens View Retreat just outside of Asheville, N.C., and couldn't have been happier with the experience. There is a steep incline to get to the house on a gravel road as it was at the top of the mountain, but my Toyota Camry was able to do it- just be careful driving up. When you get to the house, you will be amazed at the view. It's breathtaking. I took so many pictures! The location is perfect, being just 30 minutes from downtown Asheville, with other quaint cities nearby. And if you don't feel like going out, the house has a ping pong table, air hockey, and pop a shot machine. It also had a place for a campfire in the backyard. The house itself accommodated 5 couples comfortably. The kitchen was fully stocked with a toaster oven, waffle maker, a nice set of pots and pans, and a Keurig machine. The house itself looked new and the decor had a modern rustic feel. Overall we really enjoyed our stay and would not hesitate to come here again read more

From start to finish the team at Yonder was nothing but extremely accommodating, quick to respond, easy to work with, and to top it all off the houses they rent are of some of the most quality around! We fell in love with Pine Hollow the second we saw it and knew this is where we wanted to have our wedding weekend and reception. Pine Hollow has 3 neighboring houses (Lodge at Edenderry, Winters Haven, and Mountain Haven) that are equally as beautiful so we had to book them all for a complete wedding weekend. If you're looking for a wedding venue where you can rent a whole estate Pine Hollow definitely fills that description and more! It is the PERFECT venue for so many reasons! First, the location! The houses are beautifully situation on a mountain in walking distance from each other. They are minutes from Asheville and all the amenities the city has to offer making it a perfect destination for most of our out of town guest. Second, it allows you the flexibility to do whatever you want for your wedding day as if it was your own home, it is the perfect "backyard" wedding location! Third, the houses are all well stocked and beautifully decorated for the perfect backdrop. It was the ideal house for hosting guests over the weekend as well as at the wedding reception. Everyone couldn't stop praising how beautiful Pine Hollow and the other Yonder locations were. Lastly, there is ample space in all the houses. Pine Hollow held our whole wedding party of 14 so we were all able to spend the weekend together which was really special. You also have tons of room for wedding prep on the basement floor as well as the garage! It even has a full kitchen in the basement perfect for caterers and bartenders. Upstairs, the master suite was perfect for the bridal party on the wedding day for hair and makeup stations. The backyard was large enough for our 130 guest reception. All 4 houses fit 83 guest which allowed our closest friends and family to surround us. Everyone walked freely from all the houses to hang out, play games, soak in the hot tubs, and get ready for the wedding. It was if we had the whole mountain to ourselves and we all lived there. I'd recommend all the Yonder locations Pine Hollow, Lodge at Edenderry, Winters Haven, and Mountain Haven to anyone looking to hold a large event, a family reunion, a vacation, and especially one looking to have a "backyard" wedding where you can be in control of all aspects. BEWARE! This company offers inaccurate cabin descriptions, does not stand by their "clean guarantee" protocols, and their management is absolutely horrible. Tracey was an absolute nightmare! DO NOT BOOK WITH YONDER! Our cabin has absolutely disgusting. They had a cleaner come back to the cabin after we arrived (we were forced to leave after driving 12 hours to get there) all to come back to the same dirty cabin. I'm talking hairs and stains on all sheets, trash in the trashcans from previous renters, disgusting bathrooms with pee and hairs, and bugs on the floors. They said they would give us our cleaning fee back and a $75 dinner credit however- they wanted us to sign additional documents saying we reached a compromise- we DID NOT and this was not ok with us. We asked to go to another cabin- they refused. We asked for a refund several times so we could leave- they refused. They should have immediately processed our cleaning fee back. Worst experience we have ever had- and we travel a lot. After speaking with other local companies in the area, we found out even more about Yonder and can't believe they are still in business. We recently stayed at the Wentworth Hilltop in Asheville for a family get together over Thanksgiving weekend. The house was beautiful and very nicely decorated - from holiday pillows in the living room to a basket of dog toys left for our yorkiepoo that travelled with us. The kitchen was newly renovated and very well equipped - everything we needed to cook Thanksgiving dinner and more! Booking and check in were very smooth and we appreciated the rental booklet that greeted us upon arrival with not only check in/out instructions but also restaurant recommendations and other area information.
