I had a great experience with Yoon's Watch Repair recently. It's a tiny shop (literally a hole-in-the-wall on the second floor of California Market Plaza) but worth every visit. The shop can fit 2-3 at a time so sometimes you'll need to wait outside if he's taking care of a client. Mr. Yoon doesn't speak much English (only Korean) but he's extremely kind and meticulous with his work. This is the second time bringing one of my watches here (first one being my grandfather's Datejust for cleaning and service and this time being my Portofino chrono). Both times, he did an amazing job as my watches came back in pristine condition. The turnaround time is quick, his prices are very reasonable, and his attention to detail is better than what I've seen elsewhere (especially after a disappointing experience at an authorized dealer). Parking is available in the plaza albeit a bit tight. The only downside for me is that he's in Ktown and I'm currently in OC...but honestly, it's worth the drive for the quality of service! read more

I asked for minor care, which he quoted $60, but given the value of my watch that didn't sound high at all. When I came back, he cut the band (unrecoverable), displaced the hook (unrecoverable), scratched the dial (unrecoverable) and when I told him just put them back in one piece as how I gave it to him, he raised his voice at me saying "I can't because the band is cut!" and HE GRACIOUSLY DID NOT CHARGE ME FOR HIS TIME. For my fiftieth, I was going to buy myself a Rolex. Instead, i bought a motorcycle--which is, obviously, way better and not overpriced. So, after nine years, I decided to get my Tag Heuer serviced for the first time. It had been running 40-50 seconds per day late. Normally, at a Tag service center, the cost for an overhaul runs $500-ish, which is also what most independents charge, even though it's just a Sellita SW-200 movement. (FYI, this is what it costs to service a mechanical; and you're supposed to have it serviced every three years.) So, I decided to take a chance on Mr. Yoon. For just $300, he completely overhauled the movement and polished the watch to pristine condition. It looks straight up new now. Although his English is not perfect, it's perfectly adequate; so don't feel like you can't do business with him just because you don't speak Korean. But if you do speak Korean, he'll elaborate on his 60 years of watchmaking experience, and the man is clearly proud of his work and achievements. He guarantees the work for a year, but said that I can expect years of reliable performance. I believe him. Having worn watches all my life, I did feel naked without one on my wrist. Now, I feel whole again. I have about two more motorcycles to move up to, so I guess that Rolex will have to wait until my sixtieth. Let's hope the Tag lasts that long. And, oh, he showed me the accuracy on the meter: it runs between +2-4 seconds per day. That's well within COSC limits. If you're not familiar with mechanicals, I can tell you that that is very precise watchmaking. If you got a mechanical and you're looking for competitively priced, highly competent and professional workmanship, please patronize Mr. Yoon. I feel like his skills and talents are a little wasted swapping out batteries. He takes between four to five business days for the work. read more

I needed to replace the battery for my car smart key. Yoon said he could do it and it's $10. It felt little expensive cause I know the battery costs around $1.50, but oh well I didn't wanna bother doing it myself so I paid for it and replaced it. I come back home and as I turn off the engine I get an notification saying the battery is low. So I call him and tell him that nothing has changed and maybe the new battery was bad. I ask for another battery. Then he says that there must be nothing wrong with the battery because every battery he uses is new, so it must be something wrong with my car system. Okay.. so I kept using the key, and 3 weeks later, the car now wouldn't even recognize the smart key. So I went to him and told him so, he said the smart key must be bad. He recommended me to someone else because he was no expert in smart keys. I went to this new guy and told him the situation. He said, "I'm just replacing the battery. That's it." A minute later, the job was done. He asked for $4, and that was it. No low battery notification anymore. If Yoon can't even do the simple job right and won't even correct it after a bad service, there is no way I would be trusting this man with expensive watches. No way. read more

Super convenient. One thing to note: the old pop who runs this place only speaks Korean so be prepared for a language barrier if you don't speak the language. Mr Yoon is very friendly and very honest! The prices are very cheap, but vary based on the battery your watch needs. The woman in front of me was charged $20 for her battery replacement. I had 2 watches- a cheap Casio one and a Movado watch and was charged $5 and $10, respectively. Mr Yoon really is a watch expert! My Esquire watch had its battery replaced incorrectly (I replaced it in Singapore) and he showed me the mistake they made and fixed it! I don't think his English is fantastic, but his craftsmanship, friendliness, and cheap cost will definitely make up for it! I'd call ahead to see if he's open.
