The staff is always super friendly and I can tell they have a good relationship with the regulars. Some of the cashiers already know what I want when I come in. As a relatively new vegan I kept hearing good things about the breakfast bagels here so I decided to stop in last week. The first thing I noticed is that the vegan options are so CHEAP! I got a vegan sausage, egg and cheese bagel for less than $6!!! When I got my breakfast sandwich I was very impressed! I might be in the vegan honeymoon stage still but I'm so happy a place like this exists and doesn't charge too much for a friendly diet. I never thought I would find a NY style bagel outside of NY that is actually legit enough to be comparable. Alas, I have found a viable contender. I came into Yorgos the other day with my son, I of course, pulled out my trusty Yelp app to find a delicious spot to grab a bite and low and behold this joint was around the corner. We luckily found a parking spot right out front, which I can tell could be hit or miss since spaces are limited. The menu upon walking in was right above the counter so I took a minute to browse, although once I saw Lox written beautifully at the top, I didn't have to look anymore. I grabbed a coconut water from the drink fridge and placed my order. The dude who took it was cool as shit and made my morning infinitely better with his positive attitude. Kudos to him for being a most excellent employee. Anyway, we took our seats and under 3 minutes later, he brought our food out to us, didn't call our name like everyone else, but delivered it directly. Obviously because I had a toddler and he was just trying to make my life easier. Charlie started noshing on his egg bagel and I literally DEVOURED my lox with onion cream cheese with onions, capers and tomato on an onion bagel in record time. It was to die for. If I lived closer, I would eat this at least 4 times a week. As people walked in the door they all greeted us like we knew each other too. Its a very friendly spot! Without a doubt they have the best bagels in town and now that I am vegan it is truly a treat to walk in and have so many options. It is very busy however and you can't walk in and expect you will have a relaxing breakfast or lunch. Being busy isn't a bad thing however when I go out to eat I don't want to feel rushed to leave as I did last time because some other customers wanted us to move down, as we happened to be between two open tables. So of course he tried to slice them at home and he cut himself and now he's bleeding. New to being a VEGAN--only 2 months in fact. Handsome Biscuit sent me to Yorgo's because though YELP had them listed as VEGAN, trust me, they are not! Best advice I ever followed! The vegan buffalo chicken wrap (or should I say "chicken") and the Philly wrap were SHOWSTOPPERS! Zesty, full of flavor, made to order and all around PERFECTION. I can keep up this vegan lifestyle as long as Yorgo's is around. In fact, there list of available sandwiches has more VEGAN choices than meat options--and that is fantastic for me. They even have vegan desserts! My only regret is typing this has made me hungry again!!! I'm headed back there now. read more

Yorgo's is okay. Not great, but not bad. Just okay. Breakfast sandwich wise, they are on point. Simultaneously hearty and healthy, it makes a foodie want to buy bags on bags on bags. The bagels are fresh, moist and savory. The fact that they offer lox makes me swoon. But the coffee. I'm not sure what their process is, but it's pretty terrible. And expensive. If you're vegan, you know that Yorgo's is THE PLACE to go with some of the best vegan options around, so I'm not going t to rave about their vegan options here (which are delicious and plentiful), but instead offer some critiques as to what could be better, since I think they've become a little too complacent with their vegan options. As the vegan-beacon in Norfolk, Yorgo's should be capitalizing on that title more than it does. While it offers everything from bagels, to sandwiches, to cookies and pastries, the vegan options are rarely refreshed, unlike the non-vegan items which seem rotate often. There are only two vegan cream-cheese options ever (plain and herb) unless it's fall and they bring out the pumpkin, while the non-vegan cream cheese flavors are constantly changing. The vegan bacon/sausage egg sandwiches are great (the made-in-house tempeh bacon is one of my favorite things on this earth), but they give you a paper-thin slice of tofu, while the non-vegan egg sandwiches have a much lager egg patty on them. Since tofu is relatively less expensive, it would make sense and improve the sandwich if the tofu-egg was more substantial. Also, the wraps, while delicious, are much smaller than wraps you would get at most other places, and are sometimes less-than-generously filled (not necessarily a vegan issue, but worth noting). The cookies, breakfast bars, etc. are great as well and indistinguishable from non-vegan baked goods (as are all good vegan baked goods), but again, they could benefit from introducing something new every so often. All in all, vegans love this place and for good reason. But, they could really benefit from paying a little more attention to their clientele and making sure their vegan offerings are consistent with the non-vegan options. I give these critiques because I love this place and I know it can do right, and I wouldn't be so harsh on any other place with vegan options. Vegans want big, greasy sandwiches too! And cinnamon sugar cream cheese every once in a while! read more

Throughout my years in Norfolk, there have been a few places I'd say I frequent quite often. For the last 6 or 7 years, Yorgo's is one of them. I get the most simple thing. A bagel and cream cheese. *My rating is 2.5/5, but since that's not possible on Yelp I'm giving them 3/5* I'm visiting Norfolk from out of town and when I looked up "vegan food", Yorgo's came up. I was excited because the Yelp reviews are good, the vegan menu is pretty extensive, and my friend I'm staying with recommended it. I bought a breakfast burrito and carrot cake cookie sandwich to eat there, and 1/2 pound containers of cream cheese, chick'n salad, and egg salad, everything vegan. Burrito (2/5): Decently sized and good filling to tortilla ratio. However, it was overly salty and didn't have depth in either flavor or texture, making it boring and flat. I like to have variation, like the crunch of fresh vegetables, creaminess of hummus, tang of lemon or lime, etc., but the burrito had none of that. Carrot cake cookie sandwich (4/5): Pretty good. It tasted like a normal carrot cake, but nothing exceptional. There wasn't enough frosting in the sandwich, but with the cream cheese I bought it was good. Cream cheese (3.5/5): The texture was like regular cream cheese, but the taste, although accurate, was faint. The tanginess of real cream cheese wasn't strong enough. I overheard one of the managers telling someone that it was just Tofutti cream cheese that they bought in large tubs and then portioned out, which is very disappointing. Egg salad and chick'n salad (2/5): Taste was overwhelmingly like mayonnaise. The textures were a little off, with the chick'n salad being a little rubbery and the egg salad being like a cross between tofu chunks and ground beef. My largest complaint is that they make it seem like the spreads and salads are made in house because they're sold in clear plastic containers. After hearing that the vegan cream cheese is just Tofutti, I'm questioning how much is actually housemade by the restaurant. If you look at the vegan menu, many of the meat substitutes aren't house made, but rather from companies like Tofurkey, Daiya, and Gardein. To some this might not be a big deal, but the difference between making something from scratch vs. from a large company is that the food from scratch is usually made with simple ingredients, while the food from a large company is more likely to be processed. This is especially true for vegan food. For example, homemade vegan cream cheese can be made from tofu, cashews, or coconut yogurt. Here's Tofutti's cream cheese ingredient list: water, partially hydrogenated soybean oil, isolated soy protein, maltodextrin, tofu, nondairy lactic acid, sugar, locust bean, guar and carageenan gums, salt, vegetable mono and diglycerides, potassium sorbate (added as a preservative). Look, I'm not going to put all the blame on the restaurant. I could've asked where the spreads came from, but I just assumed they'd be from scratch. I do think that they should make it clearer if they're just reselling items that they bought in bulk. If I wanted to buy Tofutti cream cheese, I could've just bought it at the store, and cheaper to boot. read more

After a Saturday night out in downtown Norfolk, amazed at how dead everything was, I was so excited to see Yorgo's more packed and hopping at noon than any of the bars we saw in town at midnight. Maybe Norfolk folk are just more into bagels than boozing, but I think Yorgos' draw can ultimately be credited to its virtues of being cool and tasty. It was so tasty, in fact, that after leaving we spent the day talking about how we regretted not ordering just one more bagel sandwich in addition to the ones we inhaled. This "bageldashery" is one of those places you walk up, see the menu and know you're going to have to let the people behind you order first. There's just so damn many good choices written across that huge chalkboard that hangs above the register. Luckily, the people in front of us had that very problem and yielded ordering to us. We got a smoked turkey sandwich with provolone, mayo, mustard and a pickle on an everything bagel; and an egg sandwich with cheddar and turkey sausage on a poppy seed bagel. With a side of cole slaw, a coffee and a Lemonata, our order came to a grand total of $14. Maybe I've gotten too used to big city living, but that seems awfully reasonable to me. Oh, and any place that sells Lemonata is alright in my book, no matter what the rest of their offerings taste like. The guy who took our order was quick and understanding of our disjointed style of ordering. He didn't seem annoyed at all by our impromptu topping decisions and hooked us up with the slaw for free. The coffee turned out to be ridiculously hot - like McDonalds lawsuit temperature, which prevented my boyfriend from drinking it until his food was long gone. Fortunately, we didn't need to be bothered by any beverages; we were focused on the solid sustenance. The bagels themselves were amazing and the toppings dressed them up just right. Despite our regrets that we didn't order more bagel sandwiches, we did have the foresight to order a dozen bagels to take with us on the road. They cut them for free and gave us a freezer bag, all for under $10. read more

Went here for breakfast after reading the reviews on Yelp and I was very satisfied with my selection. I went a few minutes after they had opened so there was no crowd. I was able to get in and get out with a fresh hot bagel sandwich. I also ordered a regular blueberry bagel and everything I ordered was GREAT!!!
