My first son had died, suddenly, when I was in early labor while I was in the hospital. I was so scared but wanted a baby so badly. Not only did he give me and my daughter the best care, he managed to calm all of my fears. I will forever be indebted to this man for the beautiful young woman in my life today. He brought her into the world. She is about to be an attorney for special interests and wants to help those who are less fortunate. After my daughter was born, Dr. Zucker also caught an early case of cancer and took care of it right away. My cancer came back and it wasn't caught until it metastasized. We moved to Peoria because of my husband's job. I am lucky to be alive today and only see gyne oncologists because they monitor my cancer status. Dr. Zucker didn't miss anything. He even caught autoimmune disease markers in me for Lupus and that has helped because I have rheumatoid arthritis and sjogrens, which was caught sooner than the average person because of Dr. Zucker. His staff was also exceptional and everyone was so kind and caring. If you need a good gynecologist that cares about patients as human beings, I would recommend Dr. Zucker to any woman.

TL;DR: If you have any anxiety about GYN exams or just need warmth and compassion from your…read moreproviders this is not the place for you. I left in tears. My experience getting my Annual Exam was abysmal. First, the office staff was gossiping in earshot of Pt's in the waiting room; I was also able to hear an insurance of another Pt review occurring (gives me privacy concerns). I could have overlooked these things as they are fairly minor IMO and happen everywhere. However, when I was called back, the nurse did introduce herself (standard/best practice in healthcare is to introduce yourself and your role), and did not smile the whole time I tried to talk to her. Yes, no one owes me emotional labor, however a small social smile welcoming a new Pt would have been nicer and helped put me at ease (and lets be honest, most people going to the GYN are at least a little anxious...PAPs are no fun). She was frustrated I did not want to be weighed (please note: it is valid to refuse any medical test, including weight) and was unsure of my exact weight in that very moment (she signed, rolled her eyes, and spoke in clipped speech). She was also visibly upset that I had not had a period in 10yrs due to having an IUD and therefore could not give her a "last period date." I tried explaining I had an IUD and couldn't remember the last time, but she continued to sigh heavily. It was at this point I decided to leave my appointment. I have worked in healthcare (hospital and private practice settings) for 15yrs and I understand frustration with Pt's who don't know answers or who don't go with the flow (ex refusing to be weighed), but to treat someone with increasing hostility because they don't know answers is not good practice. I become so upset I began to have a panic attack and shake and was on the verge of tears and I am not typically that kind of person. It takes A LOT for me to feel so uncomfortable I have to leave a place. Gynecology is a sensitive speciality dealing with extremely sensitive and personal matters, to have staff who treat Pts as adversaries is not acceptable. Further more when I left no one expressed concern over why a Pt would be so upset they would have to leave an important medical exam. The doctor was standing right there looking at me and said nothing. This is not a practice interested in doing better, this is NOT a practice for you if you have any level of anxiety or need any warmth or compassion from your providers. It's also not the practice for you in you care about your HIPAA rights (ex. having insurance calls with doors open where Pt's can hear in the waiting room).

Recently though, we had kind of hit a wall in my treatment and she was having a lot of trouble finding something to work for me without crazy side effects. She referred me to Dr. Gallo and he saw me for maybe 10 minutes and got rid of the majority of my migraines with no negative side effects to be seen. I have no complaints, only compliments! Now I see him yearly and I am very impressed! I think he is very understanding, helpful, friendly, and definitely puts you at ease quickly when you have questions about sensitive subjects! I recommend him highly- especially if you are having difficulty with anything hormonal.

Dr. Gallo then scared me out of a hysterectomy, informing me that it was a "major surgery" which he did not elaborate on. I later learned an appendectomy was a "major surgery" and I have had that done and was fine. He used wording to scare me out of the procedure I specifically sought him out for. I told him about my issues with birth control and he suggested switching me to a progestin-only pill, which has helped. However, he made me feel like he would not prescribe the pill and that I was unable to leave until he gave me an unwarranted, coercive "pelvic exam" he then proceeded to insert his finger inside me and feel around around without my consent. I had only had one pap smear prior to this, I was 24 years old. After I got home I cried and felt completely violated. I have no clue what prescribing new birth control has to do with a pelvic exam! It's ironic that the nurse had asked me if my partner abused me when I felt like Dr. Martin Gallo abused me! Do not see this man, he is manipulative, coercive, and completely untrustworthy as a doctor!

What a hassle! However, the TRE reception staff were amazingly helpful. Mary Ann Stephens was especially helpful. After several phone call attempts that ended in failure, Mary Ann offered to walk down to the other office and speak with them personally. Wow! That kind of customer service doesn't happen much any more. My appointment was "old school". We chatted and got acquainted before I undressed for the comprehensive physical. I had a list of questions that I had been saving for my annual appointment. Dr. Kim answered the ones that applied to her expertise and at no point did I feel rushed. Dr. Kim was knowledgeable and patient, pointing out a couple of lifestyle changes I should make, along with discussing her specialty area. I have no idea why I had not heard about Dr. Kim and her staff prior to this, but this is truly a wonderful medical office.
