We paid for two kids for 90 min plus added slime. My daughter said it was definitely not worth $74 dollars at all. She and her friend did basically one drawing and played with cheap slime which they can make better one at home. Slime kitchen is so much better.'my daughter explain that the teacher was nice but didn't teach them how to draw the portrait well. And from that I saw, there was only one teacher for more than a couple of kids. Definitely, not with $74 and unfortunately the kids left disappointed. This place in hillsdale mall is literally never open. I finally got through to them and asked and they are closed weekdays and only do birthday parties on select weekends. There is no way to schedule a class in advance at this location unless you pay for a birthday party. Doesn't make any sense. read more

So much fun! Came here for my nephews birthday party and my daughter and myself included had a blast. They had a table w/ metallic pens that you use for your nails. They had face painting w/ colored pencils that they dipped in water. The kids got to choose from 5 different art projects that you can paint and had these awesome crayon pens that the kids drew on a glass table. The staff was friendly and were amazing with our rambunctious group of kids. They helped our kiddos create the most coolest art projects and were so patient and helpful. I am not going to lie, but some of us adults painted our own nails and got our faces painted too . It such a cute store and accommodated our party and walk-ins of other small groups as well. All guest of the party received 20% off any art supply we wanted to purchase and the staff are the ones that clean up as well, including the food trays and plates that were used. The kids had a blast and my daughter kept saying that she wants to come back. Luckily they have other locations that are a bit closer. This is such a awesome store and what a great and unique way to have a birthday party set up here!! read more

Usually when we come here, the employees are nice and friendly. Not tonight! No smiles and seems like they hate being there. Usually, the customer service is pretty good. The chick who was helping my kids, pretty much just walked away and started eating. We didn't know what to do. She didn't say thank you or bye or anything. We were like soooo I guess we leave? Then when we said, "thank you have a nice evening!" They just looked at us and didn't say ANYTHING! Personally, I just hate customer service. Kids aren't coming back here again. read more

We had a great time at this place! Brought a 5 year old and she got to draw and color SPIDER Gwen. The staff member drew a dot to dot for her to follow within a minute, worked with her on colors and even helped with pencil grip. Having worked on a kindergarten classroom this type of fine motor practice is really helpful to the kids. Gret staff, clean place, great format. Well done! read more

Yesterday august 6 , I had a really bad experience , I left my daughter for 1 hrs and when I came back to pick her up , my daughter was not there and they didn't know were she was , they let my poor 3 years old baby run out of the store and nobody noticed ! , I went out and look for her and luckily the security stuff find her on children's place , just imagine a 3 yrs old baby running around the mall because the didn't put attention and did their job right that's not aceptable , Can't imagine if something terrible had happened to my baby because of irresponsible people I recommend to all of you that's leves your children there no to thrust on their stuff !!! read more

I don't recommend this place for birthday parties. I scheduled a 20 person party for my eight year old daughter on a Sunday 11-1:30. Staff showed up late after 11am, was apologetic. We only had one person dedicated to helping our party, I paid for art lesson for 20 kids. There was no art lesson, the instructor sketched onto a canvas for each kid then the kids were given paint and paint brushes. There was no instruction. I don't think this place is set up for success to properly handle birthday parties. read more

Glad this place opened here! You pay by 15 min increments (I tried 30 min for $20 for my 2 yr old) and you leave your kid there and go shopping or grab a latte - or stay with them. They also sell all the art supplies so if you like something you can get it there. Minus a star b/c I felt like it is slightly disorganized but to be fair they just opened. The girls working there are really sweet but they kept on insisting my kid paint when she is a little young to enjoy it (crayons are more her style). read more

When this first opened I was super excited. Drop off art lessons so I can shop? Deal! I've brought my 4 and 7 year old three times and each visit has been different. The first time, I came back to really well done works of art....so well done that it was clear that they had A LOT of adult help to do it. The finished product was on a thick poster board and they did a hard upsell pitch to purchase frames and accessories. The second time, it was during the busy Christmas season and they must have received zero adult guidance because I essentially saw two pieces of paper with doodles in pencil and blobs of paint. The third time the drawings were a bit in between - the "art" was on drawing paper and resembled what they had requested (so there was some adult guidance) and looked like they did most of the work. They either stopped with the hard upsell tactic, or my kids' actual work is so bad they knew there was no way I would be paying to add a frame to it. While initially the concept sounded great, at $25-30/hr per child, you can hire a qualified nanny and babysitter to watch your child at your home for less. (Heck, I'm sure if you toss a $20 bill to one of the employees over at The Lego Store across the hall, they'll keep an eye on your kid while they work.) There isn't much in terms of keeping the place secure so during busy times I can definitely see how a toddler could escape this place without anyone noticing, so I probably would hesitate dropping off a child under 4. They offer art parties which is a fun kids birthday idea, and I can see those being successful. What would be more interesting is if they held actual art lessons like "How to paint a flower/Pokemon/whatever" and have different time slots and you can drop off your child to do that with other kids. Sort of like their art camp, but every day including weekends. That way you at least feel like you're paying for an actual lesson as opposed to free art time whose experience is highly dependent on whoever is watching the child at the time. The place has good potential, but I think needs to deliver a lot more to create a better experience for both child and parents. read more

This pretty much sums up what Young Art needs to work on: - Don't let the staff draw on children's drawings - let the kids interpret how to create the subject (shouldn't art be about the process and not the product?). If there are any Tiger Parents pressuring you, use this as a teachable moment for those high achieving adults. - Avoid using aerosols to spray paintings at the end - Can you offer non-candy items as the prize? You'll prevent a lot of crazy kids this way - This has been mentioned to the management before but nothing has changed. - Joseph, the staff person, was awesome. Lots of enthusiasm. Two thumbs up. Give him a raise. He actually did listen to these requests. Commenting more on the overall company/management. read more

Very unprofessional, staff was rude to the children (four in particular that i saw... very upsetting) they could not control the kids, keep them interested and leaned on me to help.... when i was paying for their services. They offended a 4 year old boy who said he couldn't trace.. he left the party immediately with his dad. They told my son they would not paint his face even though that was part of the package. One of the staff even interrupted me in a conversation to pay... half way through the party to show the new person how to ring up the party. No manners at ALL. The staff had the audacity to sit at our party table eating lunch and playing on their phones.. i offered them cupcakes to hopefully make it obvious to them that they're in our space and they took the last two graphic ones that i was keeping for my sons - then offered MY CUPCAKES to a random person that walked in.... All of our guests were extremely confused with the flow of the party so much bad energy and the feeling of the staff not wanting the kids in their space that they all left 30 minutes early. I'm so unhappy with the party..... my son was sad and asked if we could go to a better art place for his birthday because the people there were so mean to him and his friends. A FIVE YEAR OLD picked up on the terrible energy. I even called to talk to the manager last night and was told she wouldn't be in until Thursday... hmmm.... read more

Was taken in by Joseph's sell on how he would teach my girls to draw - let the 6y old learn from example and the 4y to trace. A simple drawing at the end of 1h was all I expected. Came back 1h later and the 4y had achieved nothing and the 6y had done one of her usual grass and blue skies landscapes. Of course Joseph complimented the girls on their 'independence'! We had to colour in the rest of my 4y old's painting as it was still mostly a white sheet of paper. Seriously is the price for 1h of babysitting now $29.95? Nice scam. read more

Below was my sob/complaint story, but I was extremely and pleasantly surprised to have received a call from the CEO herself! She had addressed my concerns with my bad visit experience. Will give the establishment more tries! Twice I went to the other Young Art in the Westfield mall and was very impressed by the attentiveness and enthusiasm of the instructor. My kid didn't want to go home and painted a very beautiful picture each time. I decided to go to the Hillsdale mall given I was in the area. The experience made me never want to visit Young Art again! First, they tried to seat my kid between two tables, so that he's painting over the gap btween two tables. When I brought that up to their attention, I was met with blank stares and the staff avoided looking at me. Then they suggested that he should sit between two stools to use the part of the table next to the crack! 2.5 year old sitting across two stools? kind of dangerous? So I politely asked if they could shift the seats over about 6 inches to resolve the situation, which they did eventually, but the staff were not happy, they stared at me as if I was evil. Next, the painting session starts. The instructor traced out the pattern of an owl on a piece of blank paper, handed my 2.5 year old a color pencil then said "ok, trace the dotted line!" and basically left him alone for about 5 minutes. He was puzzled, and didn't know what to do. The one instructor assigned to our kid was sprinting between 6 kids! Anyways, I think he had more fun doodling at home than taking the "lesson"... if I can call it that. More than once he wanted me to take him home. I had to step in and try to keep him entertained. At the end of the 30 min session, he had a piece of paper basically filled with orange paint and blue blotches, no obvious indication of the object (an owl) that was supposed to be painted. When I mentioned the lack of attention to the instructor, she promptly spoke to the manager in charge. Next comes the strangest part I have ever seen. The manager grabbed a store tabletop sign (steel thing with a round plate on the bottom and a big sign on top that said "High Quality Custom Cut Mattes"). Plopped it on top of his abstract orange painting. I'm very disappointed. We have been taking our kids to this location since they opened. The staff that worked here when it first opened were awesome! They provided great customer service, and most importantly, our daughter had a good experience each time. Most recently, my husband took both of our children in for a lesson on two separate occasions. Each time they have returned home with paint stained clothes. Because the school year just started, I have four brand new shirts that are ruined. Unlike other art classes that they have taken and at school, I guess Young Art has small children using some type of permanent paint that doesn't wash off. I've looked online for tips to remove paint stains and nothing has worked. The strange thing is that this has never happened before, and we've gone many times. Having to replace brand new clothes for my kids is not worth a trip to this place. I'm upset that I have many hours purchased here, and at this point I just want my money back. read more

Very cute store and Jen was very engaging with my 19 month old daughter, Madison. Lots of fun in her 15 minute art lesson, Madison painted a beautiful ladybug and, more importantly, fell asleep immediately afterwards in the car ride home for her afternoon nap. We needed an activity for our nephew & niece since they were visiting from the UK. We didn't know what to expect. They are ages 10 & 8. We reserved a time. Picked out the art that we wanted to make (both of us stayed to work on the projects with them). My niece was doing okay. But my nephew got discouraged because his art project was not coming together as well. The main reason for the 5 stars was that Alana (hope I am spelling it right) and the manager Jen were SUPER nice and patient with both of them. My nephew returned and both of them helped him fix his project. They were both so sweet and talented. They didn't want him to feel discouraged. Thank you to both of them! read more

Although they don't have a minimum age limit, the staff is incapable to work with young kids as they may need more attention and better guidance. Last time the artist was clearly sick (cold symptoms) and was trying to hide it. I mean, it's Christmas, stay home, don't screw other's holidays, you have so many kids throughout the day. And the idea to share one artist with several students doesn't work very well as this artist has no enough time for everyone and constantly distracted by something else and administrator. As a result it is not a lesson in any way, just another - not so good - way to leave your kid while you do shopping. read more

I brought my 4 year old here on a Saturday around 1 pm for a 30 minute session. As you can imagine, that's prime time for mall hours. The front desk was friendly and attentive. But as soon as we got an instructor, he was juggling between kids. Until he left my daughter alone. Luckily, another instructor stepped in to take over. We have been to another Young Art location in the East Bay and received better service. Overall, our 30 minute session came out to an hour due to instructors juggling between kids. read more
