I have been wanting to try this place since I saw it on a list of Tucson's best donuts. Finally that opportunity happened and we popped in around 1:30PM on a Sunday afternoon to grab a dozen. Perhaps because it was in the early afternoon on a Sunday, they had a limited selection. There was still enough of a selection to get a nice variety. The donuts themselves are definitely light and airy, even in the afternoon I thought the taste and quality were on point. The gentleman behind the counter was very nice and sweet as well. So why did I give it three stars and not throw down one extra star? Well, the lights were off in this joint, almost like he was trying to save electricity along with the door being wide open and it was in the mid-80's this particular day. By doing this, he was allowing all the little flying critters to come enjoy some of his donuts as well. As we were selecting our donuts -- there were 2 bees and 3 flies inside the case... sampling the goodies. Kinda gross, although I figured it would not deter me from trying this place and their little feet prints would boost my immune system against whatever they brought in from the great outdoors. Young Donuts is so YUM!! I read a review on Yelp that the reviewer mentioned that he eats a half dozen at a time. Initially, I was thinking Wow! But after going there this morning...I totally get it! I want to try them all!! We got a half dozen variety today and we got a lucky extra donut today! It's funny that getting 7 donuts instead of 6 can bring so much delight! So far, I've had my own chocolate frosted (delicious) and shared a maple frosted with my husband (so tasty). The donuts are light and fluffy! I'm excited for my jelly donut that is still remaining (for now)! I haven't had donuts this good since we visited San Diego and found the best donut shop there! Unassuming hole in the wall traditional donut shop. Cash only. Super cheap donuts. There's a decent selection, but I wish there was more chocolate frosting on the chocolate old fashioned and other similar chocolate-type donuts. The woman who checked us out was curt and aloof, but I think it's part of the charm with these types of places. She was yukking it up with the fellow ahead of us, likely because he's a regular. My family will only come to this donut shop from here on out. I like my donuts to feel light, as opposed to heavy, so I don't feel guilty eating them and these do that. I love the texture (Dunkin donuts or Krispy Kreme got nothing on these). My husband loves the lemon and raspberry filled donuts (he's picky). I had tried young donuts, but this was my first time picking some up. The owner was so kind to my son and I. My son was eyeing some of the toy in the casing and was given a yellow bracelet in the window, which my son was so excited about. When I got home, I realized that an extra glazed donut was thrown in, which really was the cherry on top of my experience there. I prefer supporting locally owned establishments and the owner is just a sweet guy who deserves the business/customers. Go to young's - it really won't disappoint. read more

When I look at the reviews here about how customers are complaining about hours of operation, the paper bags, or even the fact that this is a cash only business...it just makes me wanna buy more donuts. They're fantastic and one day, I want to meet a hard working wife like Mrs. Young...she's the bees knees. I feel bad writing a bad review bc they aren't bad, but I want to give my honest feedback. While I really appreciate the location and service (the ppl are so nice), the donuts aren't my thing. While they taste great immediately, I can't shake off the aftertaste of old oil. It tastes like they reuse their oil to fry more than that should. I'm more of a Krispy Kreme fan where you don't get any oil grease taste... it could also be the quality of oil they use and has nothing to do with how they cook it.
