It's local and that's why I went. I didn't experience the whole fresh donut thing. I went there on a Friday afternoon around 3:00 p.m. and picked-up a half dozen donuts. 3 of them were so old that the edges of them were dried out and crispy. He did through in a few donut holes as a cool gesture. I am sure that this guy busts his but to make his donuts - but I have to say that the donuts I had over at another shop were more delicious and fresh. They're new and maybe my experience with stale donuts isn't the norm - so I will be going back to give it another shot. read more

Oh, Young Donuts, how do I love thee? I can't think of a better shop in town when it comes to getting a dozen really good donuts at very good prices. The buttermilk bars are to die for, and the cinnamon crunch donuts are the best. The cake donuts here are as light and fluffy as I've ever had, and the raised donuts are substantial enough to feel worth paying for. You can walk out of here with a few dozen donuts for the office without breaking the bank, and everyone will thank you. All that said, the place is cash only, so leave your cards at home and phones in your pocket folks. It's well worth stopping by the ATM on the way. Super sweet older gentleman greeted us when we walked in. This place is cash only so make sure to have cash in hand if you want to enjoy some of their yummy donuts! I got lucky that I had cash..but they definitely need to update their accepted payment methods.We ordered half a dozen to go so that we could give them a try. I didn't realize it until I got home but the nice man gave us a complimentary glaze twist!! They had a good selection. Some you can't find at chains like DD because they don't do nuts. This place does have options with peanuts so something to be aware of for allergies. They have the basic old fashion, crumb, glaze, chocolate, maple bars, to Boston creme, lemon and jelly filled to specialty pastries like Danish and huge bear claws and apple fritters. We got a 1/2 dozen donuts. They were pretty good. The cost of the donuts was really good ($5). However, this place only takes cash. There was an ATM inside, but the $3.50 ATM fee was a bit ridiculous. I didn't like that the donuts were placed in a brown paper bag. The grease from the donuts began to soak through the bag, which meant holding the bag during the drive home to ensure my car didn't get dirty. I also didn't like the bag because the donuts were getting crushed together. The selection was pretty lacking as well. All things considered, I would recommend this place only if you are getting a donut to eat on sight, paying in cash that you brought, and are okay with choosing from a limited selection. read more

My first choice in this desert town was Young Donuts because it was closest to where I was staying. It's conveniently located near Kolb & Speedway and very easy to find. I noticed the sign the night before so I knew by morning light I'd be having a donut to munch on. I walked in fairly early about 9am or so. I'm sure my partner in crime saw the delight in my eyes when I saw the variety to chose from. Old Fashioned, Chocolate glazed, blueberry, all the others. Nothing out of the ordinary that made me burst at the seams to try. I happily picked out a dozen to take back to my traveling crew. Of course I had a seat first to take photos and to try a scrumptious donut. I tried the old fashioned & my P.I.C. tried the chocolate glazed. Both were equally as fresh. As far as donuts go my quest tends to take me on a path where donut makers realize the growing potential these sweet little treats have on American culture today. In 2015 donuts (those scrumdilly-ishious, fresh, small snack sized delights, packing a punch of flavor!) have so much more potential than what donuts were like when when I was growing up. While Young Donuts had a potpurri of flavors from yesteryear that were fresh tasting and delicious, for me, lacked a desire that would want me to return. Awesome customer service, great donuts. My favorite are the buttermilk donuts. They offer them both with and without the glaze. I love them both ways....depends on my mood! The bf likes the apple fritters. They are a tad on the sweet side for me, but they have good flavor. I just have to have some milk or coffee with it! :) I also like all of their cake style donuts. Sometimes when I go too late in the day, they run out. But then they offer to make some fresh ones! Can't beat that! Today I arrived at about 9:30 to find that they were almost completely out of donuts for the day. They conveniently have an ATM located inside which charges $3, which basically doubles the cost of my half dozen donuts. Somewhat limited selection around 11 on a Saturday but you aren't really limited as to which donuts are included in the half dozen, so that's good. It's a small definitely mom and pop shop so I wasn't blow away with the (lack of) decor or super cleanliness. Once I get these bad boys home to the hubs we will update the review. We were so glad to finally find a good donut shop in Tucson, that is convenient and locally owned. We usually will stop by on the weekend morning (before noon) and have always had great fresh donuts and most of the time, we find a little something extra in the bag for good measure (donut holes). The lady that greets us is always friendly and smiling. My personal favorite is their Maple glazed- it is like butter! I stopped in on my way to work to grab a couple dozen donuts and upon waling in absolutely loved the scent of donuts in the air. Looking over the selection was a bit overwhelming so I just allowed the cashier to select two dozen donuts for me. Then I saw the apple fritters and had to try one of those (separate from the 2 dozen.) She put the fritter (it was still warm people!!!!) in a bag and the donuts into boxes, I paid (cash only which cost them half a star) and when I got into my car and broke out the fritter, I discovered about a half dozen donut holes as well! A-mazing!!!! Why only 4 stars? Cash only and in all the two dozen, no cream filled anything. I'll have to be more specific in my ordering next time but damn, it was good. read more

I crave the donut experience you get in small Southern California donut shops but it has been a pain trying to find that in Arizona; however, Young's is true to that experience both in aesthetics and quality of product. I stopped by and bought one regular glazed and one chocolate glazed cake with a small coffee and couldn't have been more pleased. They were fresh, not full of grease, not overglazed, and perfectly cooked. The gentlemen behind the counter was very nice and helpful. Overall, I couldn't be more happy that I was randomly driving up Kolb and ran into this place. To be sure there are some other great donut shops in Tucson that can give you a more "gourmet" or "1950's back east" experience, but if you want legit, great tasting West coast donuts go here...you won't be disappointed. read more

My friend and I are so glad discovered this wonderful little shop YOUNG DONUT SHOP nestled in the shopping mall on the southwest corner of Kolb and Speedway. When you enter you are greeted with a quaint recorded "hello, welcome". The elderly shop owners are so kind and the quality and selection of donuts is Yummy! Why quaint? This little shop not only has donuts, but a wide variety of beverages, candy, and things you might not expect to find like tiny crystal earrings! The apple fritters are too juicy (the secret is the coconut). The chocolate icing is too real. The first four times we tried to stop by Young Donuts, they were closed - twice because they were on holiday vacations beyond just the particular holiday itself (Thanksgiving & Christmas) and twice because they closed up shop before their advertised 6pm closing. We decided not to be deterred, to consider our failed attempts at scoring some Young Donuts as all good signs. Yep, the extended holiday closings proved to be because they're a family business and we're pretty sure the early closings meant they sold out of their splendid wares before the designated closing time.
