One turned to 5 So today 3/24 my son had an appointment I set a month ago and I haven't gotten any confirmation, so I called their office to verify and confirm the appointment. The lady I spoke said there's no appointment set for my son, at this point I had a mini heart attack, was disappointed because we are waiting for this day. But The lady I spoke on the phone told me they can take my son today which was a very huge relief, good thing I called. We had a little hard time finding the office because there's no sign besides pediatric dentist, anyway we went inside and I am very surprised that the inside of this office is very nice, very child friendly. My husband and I were able to go inside since our son is only a year old. My husband and I are very picky and judgy of places we go and let me tell you this, this office is very impressive. The staff and the dentist, Dr. Young, they're all nice and awesome. Young Smiles does a good job and they let me sit in the back to watch the teeth cleaning of my kids. When they do a good job - they are definitely 5 star worthy. They give the kids coins after the cleaning to get little prizes - my kids love that. The staff is so friendly and personable with the kids and parents. They also have TVs at every chair, so the kids can be entertained. And there are game systems in the waiting room, along with TVs. The only problem I've run into is they run late in the morning some days. So 8am appts don't always start at 8. But I still prefer to make the first appointment of the day. That's why I rate them 4 instead of 5 stars, though. read more

Just having moved to the area I was looking for a new dentist for my 11 yr. old twins. Upon first look Young Smiles appeared decent. My interaction with the staff including the doctor was limited. The dentist told me after the cleanings and exams had been done that my son needed 4 fillings. She also explained that they would have to wait until the teeth had full erupted. I was skeptical at this point as honestly, I didn't have a great feeling in this office. The next week I remembered that I needed to assign them as my children's dentist since we have an HMO. I called the insurance company to do this. The insurance company told me to hold the line as they needed to confirm that Young Smiles was accepting new patients and took our insurance. I explained that I knew both were true since they just cleaned my kid's teeth. I held the line, when the CSR returned to the line, she said she spoke with Lisa at the office and they do not take our insurance. This upset me greatly as part of the job of a doctor's office is to confirm insurance before an appointment. I got off the phone with the insurance company and immediately called Young Smiles and spoke with Lisa. She told me that they only accepted our insurance if we were members of the Hillsborough County Schools. I told her we were not. I also told her that if they did not accept our insurance, they should have never cleaned my children's teeth. After a back and forth for some minutes she changed her story and said they did in fact take the insurance. I told her that I better not get a bill from them as I did not give permission for anything other than cleanings. Her response, "You won't get a bill. But if you do it won't be my fault." What! Who would say this? This entire conversation was horrible. I don't know if she was new or what the deal was. I do know that she didn't know how to do her job. As a follow-up we have Aflac, I needed this paperwork filled out. I made sure that the insurance company had paid the claim first. I called the office multiple time and faxed the requested paperwork to the office multiple times. No one in the office responded to my requests. Each time I called no one knew anything about it and couldn't help me. I finally called and spoke with the office manager. I was told to call back when he got in at 1 PM. When I did this, he wasn't available, I requested he call me back that same day. That didn't happen either. The next day I finally get a call back and it finally took another fax and several phone calls to get the paperwork I was requesting. I will be cancelling my appointment with them in April and driving an hour to go to our old dentist. If you want an uncomfortable office with incompetent front office staff go there. There needs to be a negative star rating. Horrific experience. Told them my son had high anxiety. Was brushed off. Dr came in...very cold and no bedside manor, never took the time to talk to him or reassure him. Just snapped orders at him. I wasn't allowed back with him, which they didn't tell us prior. When they came out to the car, where I had to wait, I was told they couldn't complete the procedure because he started crying. After finally getting my tearstain faced son back, I found out why. He had cried the whole time-he actually had salt drying down the side of his face from the corner of his eyes from crying so long. At one point he raised his hand up by his mouth because something hurt. Dr told him he was being rude and disrespectful for making a fist by his mouth, and she was going to tell me he was bad. Then when he cried harder for me, she told him I LEFT! He was scared to go before, now he is absolutely terrified of the dentist. Mike, the office manager, called and left me a voicemail. When I tried to call him back, they heard my name told me I had gotten someone working from home and to call right back. I do, and they sent me to voicemail. He never returned my call. read more

They are either always overbooked or very low staff to patient ratio. My appt was at 4pm and at 5:35 I am still waiting. The front staff are okay but should have been checking in with the full waiting room (some even had to stand) to make sure we were aware of the wait time and why. We have been bringing our kids to Young Smiles since they opened over 10 years ago. This practice has grown to large for the staff to accommodate. The patience of the staff is underwhelming and unnerving. The new dentist partner is less than welcoming and is argumentative. We really enjoyed the first several years with this practice, however, I think Dr. young needs to take a step back, reevaluate her practice and teach her staff what good customer service looks like. In the middle of having procedures done on day 1of 2 days on my daughter's teeth, the doctor let me know two of the preventative resins were actually going to be more extensive fillings. I asked if her teeth had changed in the prior month since the initial exam and she said that no, she just didn't catch it during the check up and I needed to go up front to approve the adjustment in price. The charges were already expensive and then to have even more added mid-procedure felt off/not right. We cancelled day 2 and will be getting a second opinion and going somewhere else for the other fillings. read more

BEWARE!!! Let me start by saying my children were going to this office for a while with no issues. The staff was pretty friendly and overall I had no issues. On 4/11 both kids went in for some dental work. When I was called up to pay I advised LISA that the cost didn't seem correct, she assured me that the person who handled the insurance verification would look into it when she returned and give me a call back. To fast forward a bit and not bore everyone with specific details. I found out I was over charged by a whopping $371, the office staff didnt find this to be a priority after tons of lies, false promises of call backs to resolve the issue, and they even tried to offer to add the overpayment as a credit to my account after almost 2 weeks. I THINK NOT, my kids don't need $371 worth of dental work. I wanted my refund back to my card. Ultimately I was unable to resolve this issue so I resorted to filing s complaint with the BBB. If you are taking your children here PLEASE CHECK YOUR TREATMENT PLANS AND CALL YOUR INSURANCE COMPANY TO VERIFY BEFORE PAYING THEM ONE DIME. I am so disappointed with the way they've handled this. I'm warning you all don't get overcharged like I did and have to fight nail and tooth for YOUR money back. My children WILL definitely not be returning and I'll be sure to share this experience with everyone I know. read more

My kids had been patients at Young Smiles Pediatric Dentistry for years; but I was stupid to keep going back. - On our first visit; I requested my younger child (age 3) to be cleaned first since he had some anxiety and I was trying to make it a quick, and hopefully a positive experience. The lady I told said she'd let them know. They took us back and sat both kids in their chairs, but it felt like an eternity to get all their supplies ready and X-rays started (maybe they had issues/problems with something, it was roughly 20 minutes of waiting and no other patients to tend to.) Apparently they didn't get my request, or didn't care, but they did my older child's cleaning first leaving my youngest sitting alone with only a pre-teen TV show to keep him occupied. I did my best to give my 3 year old "thumbs up" and reassuring smiles as I sat in their designated parent spot until he could no longer take the anxiety and started bawling. As soon as I came to calm him down (I sat in designated parent's spot for 45 minutes before moving, and there were still NO other patients in the room), someone finally came to clean his teeth. Not the best experience, but we got through it. - Six months later; again I asked if my younger child could go first. Nope, he was 2nd and had to wait. I asked if there was a cartoon channel they could put on to keep him busy instead of the pre-teen show they had on his TV. Nope, that never happened. And to top it off, they had another family come after us and their child was done before mine were. Why didn't they just do my son first and get us out of there? - We went several more times over the years; I continued to go there only because it was close to my home and I was able to watch my kids while I sat on the parent's bench. I tried having the 1st appointments of the day but always had to wait 15-20 minutes for them to get organized and start anything. I then asked for the 1st appointments after lunch; still had to wait. I should have found a new dentist, but like I said, I liked the opportunity to go back with my kids. - But then we came for our cleaning in early 2016. As I signed in, I noticed a sign that said no parents were allowed back with their kids. Did I miss a letter or email stating this new rule? My confirmation text never said anything either. So I inquired and said my children really want me back there. The receptionist refused, and spoke loudly (I'm guessing so my kids could hear) something about building confidence by going back alone. If you love your child, don't go to this clinic. My husband brought my kid for a cleaning and we walked out with an estimated cost of $1000+ with insurance! Read the reviews of others. I wish I did before we even considered going to this dentist. I have a similar experience. I asked if I could get the xray cuz I want to ask for a second opinion. My kid didn't even have any pain but they said her teeth was infected, needs extractions and fillings. The day after the cleaning, my kid's gum has a boil and never happened before. I am so mad I think the dentist used a non-sterilized tool that infected my kids mouth. Because it was an emergency and my husband not believing that dentist can actually do things like this, he went to the same dentist. Didn't even get to meet the dentist only the dental assistants. My kid was alone in the room, sedated. I paid the amount with my credit card but still skeptical if they actually did the amount of procedures I paid for. I asked the dentist how many fillings was done. He told me 4, i asked 2 more times in case he didn't understand me. I told him I paid for 8 fillings and he said oh yeah 8?!!! Really! Im going to go to another dentist to just have this checked. Some dentist dont care and charge us. Didnt even care to explain that my insurance has already reached decuctible for the year.
