Attended a work party at this location. It isn't super big, but intimate enough to have conversations with people. There are a good variety of beers, and even some that were appropriate for non beer drinkers such as myself. I stuck to the beer with the pomegranate sour flavors. There is no food here, but we had grazing type snacks for our party. They don't return all phone calls. I visited YVBC in September for a work function. I made the mistake of using my debit card, as I can never keep track of cash. I'm the kind of person that doesn't like using non-bank ATM for the fees associated ( they do have an atm inside). Long story short, they held 2 different amounts that showed pending on my account. More than a week later YVBC still had a hold on my card. I called, left a message but never received a call back. I had to call my bank and keep an eye on my account for days after making the call. A quick "hey this is the process" would have taken less than a minute. The lesser amount was ultimately dropped, it may have been only a few cents more but nonetheless it didn't seem right. Just use cash, I guess. read more

Had a chance to finally stop in. The place is in a kinda strip mall off Dam Neck Rd. I went on a Saturday afternoon and the place wasn't full, but a fair amount of people were spread throughout. I went to the counter to buy my beer. I chose a pale ale on draft. While the barkeep was filling my beer she asked if I had ever served in the military. I said that I had and she handed me the beer and card and said because of Armes Services Day the beer was on the house. I was super pleased with that and the beer. A great local brewery that has a wide selection of craft brews. If I ever travel back to the VA beach area, I will stop back in for another beer. If you're in the area, stop by and give this place some business. PROs: A fantastic brewery situated a few blocks from Naval Air Station Oceana. The seating area was very open and they are dog friendly (as long as they are leashed). The bartender did a great job and was very nice, observant, and knowledgeable. The parking situation was very easy. The bathroom was also very clean. They offer military discount for military and veterans on merchandise. You can't beat a $6 flight for 6 3oz tasters either. I enjoyed the Semper Fi.P.A., Pride, OFP No. 4 - the Relief Session IPA, Jet Noise Aged In Tequila Barrels, Jet Noise, and Night Vision quite a bit. CONS: Zero! Go and visit this place! read more

I gotta say for a place tucked into an industrial park, this joint has beer worth stopping for. Several styles were on draft and our barkeep was the secret sauce that made our visit five stars. The snake eater is as fine an IPA as any hipster could sample. Goat locker stout had nice coffee taste and complexity. Pineapple Grenade doesn't work for me but is very popular. I don't think the world would miss having a blue raspberry gummy bear beer, but it gets a nod for effort. Stop in for interesting beers and conversation. read more

Lord forgive me, I want so much to like the Pineapple Grenade, I've had samples of it in three different locations, now including the brewery. What it really is, is a typical Hefeweizen loading up on banana and clove with very little trace of pineapple. I got a flight of six beers for $6, excellent value. None of them were the kind of beer that I would want to drink again. Either there wasn't a lot of flavor or the taste was too bitter. I'm a big IPA fan and I drank three of them and not one impressed me. On the positive end, I will give props for the atmosphere, with the military theme, the inside decor is worth seeing. My husband mentioned trying this brewery a few months ago and I kept that saved in the back of my mind for a later date when I knew we would need a few hours out together. That day finally came and I checked them out on Yelp for the 411 and to look at pictures so I knew what I would order. I sent him a text asking if he wanted beer night to which he said yes. I tried to see if there was a food place near the brewery so we could eat first then go have some beers. I wasn't finding anything in the vicinity and didn't know why until we actually pulled up to the spot. It really is in the middle of what seems like an industrial business park. They don't serve food here and no longer have any type of food truck that stops by. Walking in, I got super excited. As a Navy Veteran and spouse to an active duty member of the Navy, the place is really cool. They have some picnic tables all around, a few high top tables to stand at, as well as couches to sit at. They have a coffee table that is lined with coins from all over the place that is covered in epoxy so they are fun to look at while you sip on your beer. The sign for the restroom is the name used by the Army and the Navy which was Awesome!!! They have really cool pictures that are like old war time posters that depict the name of the beers. I got the Pineapple Grenade Hef which was pretty good. I'm not really a beer drinker but it was nice to have something to sip on while my husband enjoyed himself. He got a flight of 6 3 oz shots to try. It comes with a laminated menu with numbers next to it so you know what you are drinking. All in all we had a great time. They even have their beer bottled so we took home a 4 pack. There was plenty of parking outside and they even allow leashed dogs inside!! A cool manly beer spot! It's a little bit hard to find this place without a navigation system. Nothing special around here besides one more cool brewing company. It has a free wide parking lot. As soon as I stepped in, I found it's a little bit bigger than I thought. There are a bar, some tables, a small section they sell accessories, games, a tv, some objects,etc... The board behind bar shows all info you need. I ordred 6 samples for $6. They have 8 kinds and 1 was sold out. I'm not a big IPA fan. So it was ok for me. Rye beer was unique. Porter was good. And the tiny-honey-flavored light yellow beer was tasty. Pretty busy and many young guys there. Their music was fantastic. I know all their songs. It's really rare. Ever since going on a brew tour in Boston last fall the hubs and I have found a new interest in visiting breweries. YVBC was our first check on the local brewery list when we stopped in for a flight - and subsequently left with 2 full growlers. We arrived just after the opened for the day. You know it's a popular spot when there's already a line at the bar. But would the beer really be THAT good? The girls behind the bar were super friendly and ready to pour. We were presented with probably the best looking flight setup I've ever seen... badass really. Whoever welded these trays has some serious artistic talent. Once our flights were ready we copped a squat at one of the tables in the open room, which isn't huge, but has a cool, lofty industrial vibe to it. One by one, we made our way through the pours. They were very well described right on the flight trays. Each beer was as different as the last and, IMHO, got better as we went along. My one nitpick about any flavor would be a bit too much pineapple in the Pineapple Grenade. Ultimately, we favored the Big Red Rye and Jet noise, which we filled up our two growlers with. They were the most distinct in flavor and really stood out for us. While we didn't pick up any YVBC logo items, I intend on picking up some glasses and perhaps a growler next time we visit. I had been very interested in trying this place because of the great things I had heard. My buddy got the Pineapple Grenade and I had the Commander and Peach. The pineapple grenade my friend had was hoppy and no taste of pineapple and my Peach was an IPA but had very little hops and only tasted the peach on the burp. The peach was good and tasted fine I just look for more hops in my IPA. read more

I've really been slacking on making it to all the local craft breweries around here. I need to fix that. Immediately. After a UYE (International Supper Club) last night, my Yelpy S/O decided that I HAD to try Young Vets because 1) She know's how much I love craft beer, 2) The restaurant we were at was about 5 miles from YVBC and 3) They were the only ones open. The stars were freaking aligned, people! I was rushed out of the restaurant and transported (via Mazda SUV) to this amazing (though small) tasting room(s). We actually decided to hang out in the front area with all the seating and that was totally cool. The space is small but I fell in love with everything. From the concrete stained floors to all the copper art pieces adorning the walls and shelves. This place is definitely my kind of hangout. First. I come from a very long line of military veterans to include my husband. So basically anything that supports our US military, you can bet I'm all for it. I opted for the flight, though I don't typically care for IPAs and YVBC makes a few of them. I decided it was the best POA (plan of action) and that it was the only way I was going to get a taste for how they were represented in their beers. The flight carrier is awesome, made up of welded metal pieces with the names of the beers and descriptions on little copper placards. It made me giddy happy, ya'll. As far as the beer goes, I liked it all. My favorite though, was surprisingly, the Semper FI.P.A with it's upfront citrus notes and wasn't at all overpowered by that bitter hoppy thing that happens with IPAs. I recommend you make the drive out to YVBC and go with the flight. And then sit back (if you have time) and order a pint. It's totally worth it. read more

I love the name. I love the story. I love the facility. I came on opening night and had a blast standing around with my friends sipping on their Pineapple Grenade Hefeweizen. These guys are so laid back and humble for what they've done for our country and their ability to put out a quality product that will soon be a popular item regionally. Ok full disclosure up front, for those on yelp who are of certain age, all six of us over 45, u may feel a bit like a dinosaur. But the bartender has made me feel welcome. The beer is great, I prefer the stout. For the young guns I believe they have music and food trucks on weekends. The thing that I appreciate is that the joint (old guy language for establishment) is run by vets (27 years in navy myself..,..probably more years than the median age of the other customers). So what Is there not to love old people. Let's represent......put down the miller high life and get quality craft beer from fellow brothers in arms. Converse with the younger generation ( had a great talk about the New England patriots). And expand your horizons. I need a couple folks my age there. Get a stout I guarantee it will be better than miller lite. read more

Nice little hole in the wall brewery owned by veterans. I like how they have about the same beers year round with a rotating seasonal. They have a canteen club or something. Not really sure what it is but I think I heard someone say it's $200 a year for a copper cup and 5% off your purchases or something I dunno. I like when on the weekends they open up the back door and you can walk straight through the distillery to the back alley and play cornhole. Their beers are delicious. I especially love pineapple Grenade. They also have a chalk board they write on with the food trucks name and dates of when they will be there. Always a great time!!! read more

I do like how the brewery represented our Veterans, I respect that. After reviewing my fellow Yelpers reviews, I'm not sure if I came on a bad night but I did NOT like how I felt when I walked in there. First, there was no guidance as to where I was supposed to order, so we stood in a line only to realize 15 minutes later, people were just standing there. I joined another line, and finally got served, a few coworkers were raving about Pineapple Grenade Hefeweizen, and as it turns out it was a pretty great beer. My friend who is a beer aficionado said his beers was just alright, he got a flight. We didn't know if we could go to the back to sit down, so I just decided to feel ballsy and walked all the way to the back where there was just one table left so we stole it. Sunday afternoon.Packed house. Most of the patrons were wrapped around the small bar area, so that made it very difficult to get to the bartender who promptly informed us that most of the tapped beers were out. I did come to a brewery right?! I'm confused... Not to mention, I was really excited about a glass of pineapple grenade. We had a choice of 2 beers. My enthusiasm was quickly waning. I know this place has a great following. They've won numerous awards in the local scene but I'm sad to say that there isn't a beer that pulls me back to this establishment. There isn't one that I get a craving for. You know, that perfect beer that would hit the spot on a hot summer day or keep you cozy in the winter. I just haven't run into the right one I guess... The layout of the place isn't the best. The arrangement of the taps could be better. It forces you to crowd into a shallow hallway making your purchase a chore. The restroom is down the same hall so if there are people flooding to get a drink, and your flooding and would like to get by, you have to hope that the sea parts before you make one of your own. The swag: The bottle openers are awesome, the growler prices are okay, the shirts are typical military looking shirts and the posters would be cool collectors items. This is the second brewery i've been to in Virginia Beach and I enjoyed it! The place is a little small but its whatever, it was still fun and laid back. We sat at the.. "bar". Small local brewery celebrating veterans. The brewery has some crazy off the wall beers which pack a punch. The building is a good size but the bar is very small, when I was there all of the regulars took up the entire bar, so we sat on a couch away from everyone. The also have a beer club that is not accepting new members and it seems that ever one who was there had one. It was a nice visit but I won't go back. read more

Part of our VA Beach brew tour! Thanks to the power of Yelp, we were able to visit this place on our 1st visit to VA Beach. Once you're in the area, it's very easy to find. The tasting room is smaller, but boosts a number of different seating choices and a long bar along one wall . The actual bar is a bit tricky to get to when its crowded as the main part of it is along the hallway. I love the way they present their flights. The copper plates w/ the beer info on it are an awesome touch. As for the beer, obviously you need to try the Jet Noise if they have it. My other faves include their Pineapple Grenade (and I'm not a hefe fan), their Night Vision, and I also found their Semper Fi PA pretty solid. The Good Eye Sniper was not my favorite, but I'll always try it when I'm here. The people here are great, and they have a good story. Visit and hey, check out the growler collection! read more

Stopped here on our way home one day with our baby and dog( craziness right?) they were so accommodating and always accept dogs on leashes. The bar is a bit small but tons of seating throughout. There was another child there so we didn't feel like the only crazies bringing their kids in. We each got a beer which they offer military discount for! I got the pineapple grenade and it delicious. Just like most of the breweries in the area, there is no kitchen on site but food trucks to help with the munchies. There is plenty of parking available. After having high expectations I was underwhelmed with the beer. I dropped in and had the flight prior to seeing a concert nearby at the VB Amphitheater. I had remembered one of my friends saying this was the best brewery in VB, so I was excited to see it was so close to my concert. Upon arrival the setting reminded me a lot of COTU in Ashland- In a corporate business park setting that feels a bit remote. I liked the space on the inside as it felt homey (not fancy at all) and relaxed. They are expanding into space next door. The taproom servers were friendly and the flight was served with descriptions of each beer. Unfortunately of the 6 tasters, there were only a couple that i really liked- the IPA and stout. And yet these still didn't excite me enough to order a pint. I'm still happy that I had the opportunity to check it out. And the food truck that was there- Taste of Brazil- hit the spot as I was pretty hungry. read more

I love what this place stands for and I love how cozy and comfortable it is to come in and enjoy a delicious brew. Albeit it is in an odd location and it is very small, its perfect to me. The vibe here is so laid back and relaxed and the fact that they don't even mind if I bring my tiny humans with me is so rad. This brewery is an excellent addition to the Tidewater area's growing microbrewery industry. These guys are nailing it. I stopped in yesterday since it was Veteran's Day. They had a deal going where customers had been pre-paying for pints so active duty and vets can get a free beer on Veteran's Day. I enjoyed a free pint of Semper F.I.P.A (freaking delicious, btw) and then coughed up a $20 spot to keep the momentum going forward. They posted on FB last night that so many people did what I did that they still had over 100 free pints to give away at closing time. I hope it keeps going forever since it is such a great idea. The only small piece of criticism I can offer is that they don't normally open until 3:00pm most days. I tend to be out running errands and such around noon time on weekends, which is my normal time to stop in for a restorative pint. I would definitely be in here on a more regular basis if they opened earlier. read more
