We pulled into the parking lot and initially thought, "--do we really want to be here?" The outside isn't very appealing, and there weren't many cars for a Saturday, but we had decided to give it a chance. Upon walking in though, we were pleasantly surprised. It was very clean, smelled fantastic, and the food in the buffet was all fresh and brought out promptly. There were not many people in there, but a nice quiet lunch was just what we needed. The waitstaff was very friendly, organized, and quickly offered drink refills and whatever else we had needed. Also, I really like how the waitstaff didn't "hover". Especially on a day that they didn't have too many people, --they weren't standing in a corner somewhere waiting for the opportune moment to "serve you" LOL. Terrible. Do not eat here. The food was either dried out and stale from sitting out for so long or tasted genuinely rotten. The waitress was unkempt and constantly yelling to the kitchen even when clearing plates from our table. First time coming and, although, my first impression was not that good, because they lacked selection compared to the bigger chain buffets, the food was good and the amount was enough to leave on a full stomach with a lower bill. They have all the common foods at buffets; fried rice, lo mein, tso's chicken, sweet chicken, dumplings, desserts, ice cream, chicken and broccoli/steak, etc. These reg buffets cost $20, and I only can eat 1 plate of food, while it cost me only $13 and some change at this place. Young young buffet has always been good!! I have gone to this restaurant for over 30 years. Yes 30 years!!! I have taken my daughter here sense she was 2 years old, now 23 she still loves this place. I've been coming here for 15 years on/off. Best value for a Chinese buffet in the area. I like it the most out of all the area buffets for a number of reasons. 1. The buffet isn't too big. It's got all of the popular Chinese dishes that we all know and then some. You're not paying $15 for a buffet full of crap food. You're paying $7 to $9 (depending on time of day) for an all-you-can-eat of essentially decent take out Chinese food. 2. The soft serve ice cream is as good as many ice cream places and is included. 3. The place was recently remodeled and nicely re-done. A few tips! When you first get there, if a dish looks like it's been sitting out a while, take a tiny bit only then sit down. The staff tends to watch what you take and then goes to make a fresh batch the second they see you take it. So just a few minutes later there's a fresh dish of whatever you wanted. Be wary of some of the fruits and desserts. If there's one questionable thing about this place it's those dishes. Not the ice cream though - it's really good! read more

Back in high school, I used to come here with friends before movies because it was cheap and the food was reliably decent. Either my standards were lower back then or the food's gotten worse, because I returned for the first time in many years on a weekday around noon, and the food was pretty mediocre. I grabbed some stuff to go from the buffet since I was in a rush, and pickings were slim. There was a bunch of stir-fries that all looked very similar (and tasted very similar too), your standard buffet mainstays, as well as some fried odds and ends, including fried dumplings. After trying most of the dishes, I couldn't really tell you what I ate since they all tasted the same. In addition, they all tasted like they had been sitting out for a while. The General Tso's chicken was not crispy at all. I wouldn't have been so disappointed if the food was dirt cheap, but prices for takeout were about the same as they are at other Chinese buffets in CT, and this buffet is much smaller. To their credit, they did remodel the place and it looks much nicer than it did back in my high school days, but I just wish I had enjoyed the food more. Sadly, I won't be coming back. read more

The McDonald's of Chinese Buffets. The food is barely palatable, the options are limited, the servingware is all paper/plastic/styrofoam, and the soda is self-serve. Sound familiar? But ya know, it's cheap. With tax, your total will come to $9.10 for dinner, soda included. And seeing as how no one really waits your table (for the aforementioned reasons), I don't really see a need to leave a tip... I did leave one because I was feeling nice. Anyway, there's a few decent things. The fried shrimp and pork lo mein were pretty good. And there's free ice cream, which was surprisingly high quality. Just one beef - most places let you take your ice cream to go, but for some inexplicable reason, Young-Young mandates that you not take ice cream out of the restaurant unless you pay for it. Silly. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY!!! Our top 3 Chinese food places have been closed for over a month due to COVID quarantining. We were craving Chinese food & happy to find a local Chinese place open. We ordered apx $50 for delivery. It was the most disgusting Chinese food we've ever had! My daughter's shrimp was not actual pieces of shrimp.... it was minced up shrimp, mixed with flour then fried into strange shrimp "balls". My son's General Tsos Chicken tasted like it was sprayed with cleaning chemicals. I decided to order what I'd call a "safe bet", sweet & sour shrimp. It tasted OK, even though I wasn't a fan of the tails being left on. Then with only 2 shrimp left I took a bite & saw Young Young doesn't even bother cleaning their shrimp! Never ever have I ever, eaten shrimp at a restaurant where the waste wasn't cleaned out ... I almost vomited! Needless to say, we threw away most of our food. None of it was edible, besides the filthy shrimp, I mistakenly ate since they were hidden underneath flour. We will never eat here again, even if it was the last restaurant in the world. Soon as I get there, I had a gut feeling thi places food wasn't going to be any good. Sure enough, I order a general tos chicken lunch special.. lady comes out with what looks like 50$ in food. We have been getting takeout from Young Young from the day it opened and loved it. We had read on Southington talks how the quality of food is not the same but decided to place an order anyway. We ordered three meals, pork lo mein and three appetizers costing $46. It was a take-out order and when my husband got home with it we realized two dinners were not what we ordered. I called the restaurant and explain the error. I asked them if they could please deliver the two correct meals and I would give them the incorrect ones. I said normally I would bring them back but our appetizers would get cold. The woman went and spoke to someone and came back stating if they brought the two meals I would have to pay for one of them. I asked why would I have to pay for one when all they would be doing is replacing the two wrong meals. She just kept insisting we had to pay for one to which I must admit I got upset raised my voice. I finally told her to forget about it and we would never order there again. A while later the owner called us...His name appeared on our caller ID as "Dr" He said they would replace the meals if we just brought them down At this point we had had it! I told him we are keeping the meals but never ordering from there again especially since Zengs is just as close with comparable prices and better food. It's a small and low-profile buffet, but the food taste GOOD! Normally we go to buffet for quantity, but here it focuses on QUALITY. While the selection is limited without much beef and no sushi, they do have shrimp and each dish tastes great! Even in the eyes of a Chinese. It's very much like homemade food. The pros; First off, the owners are very polite and friendly, and always give me extra fortune cookies at the end of a order when i do take out. The food is great, not super high quality $40.00 meal ticket type stuff, but it's decently priced and they have a good selection. For two people you pay $20.10 for sit down, and when I do take out here (again for two people) I think I've only been paying about $11.50 for 2 LBS OF FOOD. THAT IS AMAZING. I highly reccomend the barbecue chicken, rice noodles with little shrimps, and broccoli and chicken. The beef covered shrimp is also great. Their desserts are also great ! The ice cream machine is a bonus, and it's actually delicious and B+ quality :) Try their cake or jello as well ! The only con; I do agree that there should maybe be a tofu and/or vegetarian based dish here, but they DO have delicious broccoli and green beans. read more

I've been living in NYC for two years, and I have yet to find a chinese restaurant as wonderful as Young-Young. The restaurant has such affordable combination dinners priced around $6-7 (that come with fried rice and egg roll). Add some soup for $2.50 and I'm set for the night - and lunch tomorrow. The buffet is also super affordable. Headed over to lunch and it was $6.50 - including drink and dessert!
