Tom took over the shop after Mr. Young retired, so I decided to let him take a look at a persistent problem, where the gas pump kept shutting off making it difficult to fill the tank. Man am I glad to have these awesome people in the neighborhood! Today Tom & Jenny saved my butt again, from what I thought was surely another BMW overpriced disaster. Not only did they take care of the main problem but also gave me tips on how I can resolve another little issue on my own, so I didn't have to pay for something so simple. My daughter's headlight was out and I wanted to teach her how to fix it herself but we couldn't get the bulb unplugged. Don't just take your car any old place - bring it to Young's. I'd been casting about for a new car mechanic since Torchio's closed, and my Nissan Sentra's brakes were getting awfully crotchety, so it really needed some work. I decided to try Young's, and it lived up to its Yelp stars. For 2 new brake pads and rotors on the front wheels, I was fully expecting a $700-$800 bill - imagine my surprise when the new pads and rotors *and* an oil change *and* some new windshield wipers came out to only $513. And the new brakes are working great, I've already tested them on some pretty steep hills. I brought it in at 8am and it was ready at 1:30pm the same day, so they're quick too. If you're looking for friendly customer service, this is not your place. If you are looking for a knowledgeable mechanic, this is also NOT your place. I called on the phone and told him about my 1990 Toyota Pickup having a fuel smell in the exhaust (shoutout to Pele's in Richmond for excellent service on the exhaust and catalytic converter), before even listening to me he snaps "we don't do catalytic converters" showing that he was not truly fully engaged or listening to the conversation. When I told him they suggested I get a "tune up", he told me "that's not a thing". After finally getting my point across, he tells me to come in on Friday morning; so I do. I tell him what is going on again and told him I spoke to him on the phone and before anything else he says "well I'm not going to do it today", which I never even asked him to. He then tells me I can't even leave it. So why tell me to bring it in Friday morning at all if you're not going to take it? Fine. He says he'll be there Monday at 730AM. I come back on Monday morning 730AM, roll it in, he says "I can smell it, the car is too old that can't be fixed" which is an absolutely ridiculous thing for a mechanic to say. The 1990 Toyota Pickup engine is actually very easy to work on, mostly I'm looking for expertise and diagnostics, which many places have helped with before, but clearly not here. Besides, if the car was too old why did he not tell me on the phone the Weds before? Or the Friday when I came in? Why waste my time three different ways? Could not advise you more to take your car elsewhere. Awful service. read more

Very satisfied with my service at Young's Automotive. My car started to shake aggressively whenever I stepped on the break so I knew this wasn't an issue I could put off. I called them up and they said I could drive right in without an appointment. After explaining the issue the owner took a flashlight to look under my tires and knew almost immediately it was my rotor and break pads. He quoted me $400, warned me it might be a bit more, then sent me on my way for the rest of the afternoon. He called about an hour later with the exact quote ($401) and I told him to proceed. Everything was straight forward and accurate, down to the hour my car would be ready. Luckily, Young's is within walking distance to my house, so that convenience is a huge plus. Car repairs are never fun and always seem to be needed at the worst time, but I'm glad I've found my go-to repair shop. read more

Young's mechanic didn't replace the oil cap after an oil change and I drove around spraying oil all day before I figured out the issue. There was a funky smell coming from the engine so I knew something was off. Luckily I had only driven about 10 miles to and from work before I discovered the issue and quickly went to O'Reilly to get a replacement cap and oil (it was the weekend and Young's was closed). I needed to drive down to the South Bay the next day which could have created a very unsafe situation without an oil cap. I needed to take additional time off work to bring my car back in a second time to get the engine checked and get the oil cleaned off. I explained the situation and asked for at least a partial refund on the service and Young was very unhelpful and really didn't seem to care. He gave me a refund for what I spent at O'Reilly (a very small amount of the overall cost) and that was it. His verbatim response was "are you trying to get a fortune out of me?" I typically never write negative reviews of places but am left with a very sour taste in my mouth after this interaction and obviously won't be back. read more

Yes the owner has a very straight forward, no nonsense personality, but he's very reliable and honest. He will tell you exactly what you do and do NOT need to fix (now vs can wait until later), unlike other shops that give me a neverending laundry list of all the problems I have with my car and try to take advantage. I've stopped by as a walk in as soon as his shop opens and he can usually get the work done by lunch time. Prices are fair and reasonable. Annoying ass owner that I'll never do business with again. Called on a Thursday about a somewhat minor issue for my car (but still an issue that requires a mechanic), and was told to bring it in the next day at 8am. So I show up, and was told I couldn't be seen, and to "bring it on Monday". Cool, I get it. So I bring it Monday morning at 8am, only to be told I couldn't be seen again. What? This is was super irritating, but what irritated me more is the way this a$$hole: never offered another day to bring my car in (just kept mumbling "I can't take it today, I can't take it today..."), couldn't look me in my eye when he was talking to me, and flat out ignored me to talk to another customer when I was trying to ask more questions. Bottom line: f*%# Young and f*%# this shop. I'll be glad to take my business elsewhere where they'll actually appreciate it...? The actual labor might be good here, but customer service is ass and needs a lot of work. read more

Called Yong on Monday afternoon, he told me the services would be 120 for an hour of labor because I brought my own parts. Seems like that's the going rate because he even has it listed by the door. Very fair! I was told to bring my car in first thing in the AM at 8. I was early and Tom his associate was working on my car within 15 minutes. I got a regular tune up on my 6 cylinder Honda and I'm positive he did an amazing job UNDER an hour. I was up and out of there by 9:08 and was able to enjoy the rest of my morning before work. My go to for anything related to my car. Young is honest and straightforward. I don't need my mechanic to be my best friend; those are often the ones that smile while they attempt to rip you off. Not this man. Every time I've had an issue with my car he not only fixes the problem at hand, but lets me know if he sees any other problems. Furthermore, he offers to fix those as well and gives me an estimate (which is always on point), and when the work can be finished by. It's difficult to find a mechanic who has integrity and is honest, so I couldn't recommend this place more. As an example, my engine overheated and had AAA tow my car to an affiliated shop in Livermore (on my way home from the southern sierras). They discovered that my radiator was cracked, was leaking, and that I also needed my thermostat replaced. They tried to charge me $1100! Instead, I had the car towed again to Young's, and he performed the work for $890. He and his team do the work very efficiently, and in a timely manner. Go here. You won't regret it. read more

What a terrible experience. I ignored some warning signs when dealing with Young, the owner, over the phone, and chose to bring my car to him out of convenience. I regret wasting my time. Young's first comment to me after telling him what was wrong with my car was, "I can't diagnose your car over the phone." Not "I can help you, please bring your car in". That continued. I brought the car in and Young immediately starts to open the hood of the car and inspect the engine. I ask if he wants me to stay, don't get a clear answer, ask again, and he says, "yeah, I need to know what's wrong." Weird. He takes a quick look at what's going on after about two minutes, decides he's made up his mind about what the issue is, and retires to his office, inviting me. He explains, long-windedly, about things that have nothing to do with my car's problem. I brought it in for a leak and he's going on and on about valve covers and spark plugs when he's already been insistent that the leak is caused by a faulty gasket. I ask him three times for a cost estimate and he goes to work at his computer for a couple of minutes and gives me a number. Then I (try to) say, "if you get into the car and find anything else wrong, let me know". I'm trying to give this mf an out in case he finds that there's an additional cause to the leak in my car, but he's not having this at all. He adopts this rude attitude that what he's decided on is definitely the problem. And then he tells me to get my car and go. At this point I was happy because, well, what if the issue was caused by something else? Would Young have completely ignored that to sate his ego? I think so. It's also worth mentioning that another customer called while I was there with him, and he hung up on them after telling them pretty much the same thing he told me when I had called. Young's mechanic was an absolute sweetheart and I have no doubt that that man would do a fabulous job on my car. He is probably the reason Young has had any success at all. My car takes care of me because I take care of it. A few months back, at a regular service, I was informed that at a certain mileage my brakes would need replacement. When I hit that mileage I decided to check out a new place. It is great to have one mechanic but I keep all my car repair records and proactively track when my vehicle will need what. This liberates me to keep a few places in rotation because I always have the Joanna-mobile's history. I have made a new addition to my rotation. Summary of this morning: 7:00 Yikes, I'm at x miles + 100 and haven't dealt with the brakes ! *frantically searches Yelp for highly rated mechanics within a certain radius. Calls a few. Some don't answer some say call back at 8 or 8:30* 8:00 *Calls Young's Automotive* Can you check & possibly replace brakes on the JoAnna-mobile before noon? Yes? I'll be there in 15 minutes. 8:15 *Provides car history* Oh, so you'll look at it now and order parts before 9AM ?Awesome! *plays with phone* 8:30 Why are you smiling? My family and I have been coming here for YEARS! I receive only the best service here. I should have written a review a long time ago, but better late than never! For the past 2 weeks, my car was making this weird sound coming from the bottom of my car as if something was falling off. I called in the morning and was able to bring my car in the same day. I have a long drive in a couple of days so I really needed my car fixed today, which is the only day I got time off work. I was anxious about the whole situation, but the owner took a look at my car in one second and realized what was wrong. He fixed it in ~15 minute. Even though there wasn't a lot of space in his garage, he still squeezed my car in to get it quickly fixed...for free!! I'm really appreciative and thankful that he did this. This is what I call customer service. I don't need reassurance via sweet talk, just fix the problem quickly and efficiently. My anxiety level went from 100 to 0 real quick.
