Young's Beach Shack serves a little bit of everything that's fitting for a meal on the beach. You will spot it right before you head down to Monarch Beach, passing by the grassy area near the restrooms. I didn't stand in line to order as someone else ordered the food for us. I would expect a long wait time as it was the only stand that I spotted that close to the beach. In my poke bowl, there was sticky white rice, avocado, greens, sesame, shallots, and sriracha aioli and soy glaze. The main fish they use is tuna, which wasn't indicated on the menu. There was a good ratio of fish, greens, and rice. The soy glaze was good with the rice, but they drizzled a bit too much on it so it was very salty. I would ask for the soy glaze on the side! My friend and I managed to finish most of the bowl, leaving the rest of the parts that had too much sauce. I usually wouldn't order poke from food stands that don't specialize in poke, but this bowl had us content! You can definitely find something from this beach shack that is pretty tasty and convenient. read more

Really nice outdoor restaurant with a view of the ocean but it was pretty crowded, however we somehow managed to find a table! You have to go down a steep hill to get to the restaurant. Young's does have a golf cart that can take you down but you have to pay. The staff is nice and welcoming. You order at the window and they give you a buzzer to grab your order. I ordered the veggie salad bowl and it was so good! After going to the beach, I came back and ordered a housemade lemonade and it really hit the spot. I recommend stopping by and trying it out! read more

I love going to the Strand for my coastal walk and glad they have this little shack for the ones who want to take a bite to eat with a beautiful coastal view. I ordered the fish ceviche and fish and chips and both are fresh and delicious with all the condiments available. Love their wooden utensils. Highly recommend. read more

I was happily surprised at how good the food was at a place with the name "shack" in it. They have a wide variety of food and you can't beat the view! We saw dolphins while eating our poke bowls! It was pretty crowded on a Thursday night at around 6. The only downfall is this place is kind of a hike to get to! read more

Not sure what happened here. I got the breakfast burrito and they only put in eggs and bacon (maybe cheese). After a few bites, I realized something was off. I told them I was missing pico de gallo. They apologized and gave me some to go. Then I realized I didn't have hash-browns either. Anyway, maybe it was just a bad day, but when you order make sure they give you everything it says it comes with. I'll be back because every other time the food was good and this area is beyond beautiful. read more

The view of the large waves at sunset was amazing. Six of us enjoyed the hotdogs, tacos and a hamburger. The drinks were delicious too. Most of the ladies ordered Margaritas that were great, but I enjoyed my Pina Colada as well. The service was excellent. We came across this place while staying at the Ritz. The food was definitely delicious, but paying $20 for a single fish filet with a plateful of fries was a bit hard to justify. My husband ordered the breakfast burrito and thought it was pretty good. The restaurant was very crowded on Saturday morning, and it took about 25 minutes for our food to come out, so expect a wait during peak hours. That said, the location is amazing. You can watch the sunset or take a walk along the beach after your meal, which really adds to the overall experience. Great spot for the views--just be prepared for the prices and wait. read more

Young's Beach Shack is a great place to stop for a general bite to eat near the beach as well as for a beach day spent hanging out in the sun and sand. Located at in Salt Creek Beach near the Ritz Carlton entrance to the beach, it is a cute little spot that now also serves cocktails as well as delicious fish and chips, fresh fruit and veg, and a variety of other salads, burgers, food drinks. The lines can get really long in summer so you have to have patience, but it is 100% worth the wait. Plus, you have gorgeous views of the Dana Point ocean point and all of the surfers and beachgoers. I will be back this summer, and hope you visit, too - but not when I do! read more

Great location, but really basic, ultimately fairly expensive food. We got a burger and a tuna melt. Both were fine but nothing special. Both came with a side of flavored tortilla chips that were not that great, either. For the tuna melt, I requested no tomato, and, of course, it came with tomatoes. They "re-made" it for me, but bad form. So, those with food alergies should be wary. I would not go back for food. Maybe drinks, but the food didn't deliver. read more

Young's is perched above Salt's most iconic surf breaks - from The Point to Gravels, the views take you from Laguna Beach and Catalina Island to the southern point of the cove. Spending a day at the beach, walking the bluffs, or just enjoying a sunset in the park - Young's is the perfect spot to refresh and refuel. Our menu is created by Chef Kyle St. John and features fresh seafood, locally sourced satisfying fare, beach picnic provisions, a coffee bar, beer, wine, and cocktails. History

Established in 2023.

In 2023 Young's Beach Shack opened as a coastal classic, reimagined. Inspired by the original Young's Beach Camp, a gatekeeper of Salt Creek Beach in the 1940s through the '60s, our new beachside café welcomes locals and visitors alike to stop by for a drink and a bite and enjoy the incredible and culturally rich Salt Creek Beach. It's known for its fresh seafood, hearty breakfast burritos, signature cheeseburgers, and beach picnic provisions, all made with sustainable ingredients. Executive Chef Kyle St. John heads up the culinary expertise, which also manages catering services for private events at the park's event space.

Meet the Manager: Chef Kyle S.

Kyle St. John is the Executive Chef at Young's Beach Shack, our sister café, Lost Pier Café, and The Ranch at Laguna Beach. Kyle joined The Ranch at Laguna Beach in 2016 bringing his passion of farm-to-table cooking and fresh, locally-sourced California coastal cuisine. Kyle’s love for food started in the kitchen with his family’s cooking and Grandmother's recipes, which led him into the culinary world working in restaurants while attending school. He is committed to using local, seasonal ingredients and supporting the farmers and fishermen in Southern California.

Cynthia helped me coordinate and plan our event for my son's Baptism reception and she brought the ideas in my head to life!! I've been disappointed with coordinators before. Cynthia is amazing! She took all of my stresses away and eased my mind with her guidance, experience, and professionalism. And one of the most important things to mention is that she worked with the budget I had to create that wonderful evening for us. She and Doug truly treat you like family. And they treated all of our family during the event - like family! Making sure everything was set up perfectly. And that everyone was enjoying themselves! I can't thank her enough and would absolutely recommend her catering services as well as this venue to everyone! Here are major points: Venue: Absolutely unique! They have projectors throughout the venue that can display moving backgrounds or photo montages throughout your event. So it can feel like you're in an underwater aquarium, or NY in the 50s, or in a peaceful forest! They can also display different backgrounds or photo montages in different areas of the venue. Music: they have speakers throughout the venue and also outside so you can give them a playlist or even sync your Bluetooth so you can have your own playlist going. I suggested to Doug the "vibe" I was going for - Nora Jones meets Michael Buble meets Indie Arie. He definitely delivered!! You can also hire a DJ or a live band, however that may decrease your space usage for the venue. So it just depends on how many guests you want to have. Dance floor: they can stage the dance floor almost anywhere in the venue! Again, depending on how many guests you have. Outdoor patio: cute stylish outdoor patio area with fire pit! Our guests loved lounging in this area. Flower arrangements: Cynthia showed me several examples and were exactly what I envisioned! Food and beverages: SO delicious! Cynthia has a website of her catering services and menu options to choose from, or you can let her know the type of food you're thinking of having and she can totally work with you! With her expertise, you can rest easy that she will deliver. We chose to have food served buffet style, but hors d'ouvres were butler In terms of beverages, we had water and tea station as well as a coffee and hot tea station. There is also the cutest little bar on the patio of the venue where Cynthia let us purchase our own alcohol to be served to our guests! And our bartender was awesome - professionally courteous yet super friendly and down to earth. The wait staff - professional and courteous! Very kind to all of our guests. Parking: There is a lot across the venue where guests can park and a few parking spaces right next to the venue. Cate is professional, responsive, and genuinely collaborative. Communication is clear. Load-in is organized. The space is clean and well maintained. When a venue runs this smoothly, it reduces friction for vendors and creates a better experience for clients and guests. That kind of operational competence doesn't happen by accident. The design is what makes this venue distinct. The short-throw projectors transform the walls into a fully immersive aquarium or fishbowl environment. It's not a novelty effect; it's a production tool. For weddings, the room can feel atmospheric and romantic. For corporate events, branded visuals wrap the space in a way that feels custom and high-end. Few venues at this size offer that level of visual flexibility. From an audio standpoint, the room performs extremely well. We run MagiCali, a Southern California mobile DJ company specializing in weddings and corporate events, and we evaluate every room through a production lens. We look at ceiling height, wall material, reflection patterns, power distribution, and how low-end energy travels across a dancefloor. We've worked in luxury ballrooms, outdoor coastal venues, private estates, and converted industrial spaces. The Fish Tank is one of the rare venues where you don't have to compensate for the room. Speeches are articulate and easy to understand. Dinner music sits comfortably without overwhelming conversation. When it's time to transition into dancing, the room holds energy evenly instead of creating hot spots or dead zones. That tells you the space was built and tuned with care. For clients, that technical quality translates into confidence. You don't have to worry about muddy sound during toasts or harsh reflections once the music turns up. The venue supports the event instead of fighting it. There are many event spaces in Orange County. Very few combine strong visual identity, flexible projection capability, solid acoustics, and hands-on ownership. The property is the perfect size to remain quaint like a bed and breakfast but big enough that you don't feel obligated to know each person coming and going. I would admit being in our mid 40's, we were on the younger side of guests during our stay, but this was a welcome surprise for us as we were looking for a quiet getaway for the evening for our 9 year wedding anniversary. The room was 212 which is an ADA accessible room but this I believe was provided at the special request of having a bathtub for my wife who values her baths on her getaways! The room faces the parking lot but this is a small sacrifice for what the true payoff was which was the special request... The giant jacuzzi tub which did not disappoint. It was large enough to fit two adults (not that we tried or anything *wink wink). The jets worked great and my wife raved about them. The room came with luxurious robes and slippers and all bath products were either local or unique brand. The room also came with a fireplace that was gas which started with the flip of a light switch. Another beautiful touch. It is always hard to find a bed that is comfortable enough while away from home as we are spoiled by our sleep number at home but this bed did the trick (which most chain or corporate hotels cannot accomplish!). The linens were soft and the room came with extra pillows and blankets on hand without having to ask for more. The complementary breakfast buffet in the morning was not your standard spread. It felt more refined and focused on the details. It was not your scrambled eggs from powder. It was two sunny side up eggs cooked to perfection. It wasn't generic underripe fruit, it was perfectly ripe fruit with an assortment of sides. My wife raved about the yogurt and toppings as did I about the oatmeal and toppings. Overall this could not have been a better short 1 night getaway for my wife and I to enjoy away from the hectic everyday life. I came into this experience with high expectations. I love eating out and decided that I was going to take my girlfriend out so we could get some food and enjoy a nice beach walk. The food wasn't awful or bad by any means but that short rib grilled cheese should not be called a grilled cheese, kind of misleading. It had one type of cheese on it and only half the sandwich had cheese. It's a short rib SANDWICH, not a grilled cheese. That aside, breakfast burrito was very good and so was the fried chicken sandwich. Kyler recommended the fried chicken sandwich and it was easily the best thing we had. Overall, food is a 2/2.5. Service could use some serious work though. The server named Jared was kind of a jerk who after getting us our food walked off after we asked for some extra salsa, we never got the salsa. My girlfriend got up, walked to the window and asked for some and right after she got some heard Jared say "finally that lazy b!#ch got up and did it herself." That in my opinion is totally unacceptable, rude, demeaning and if I had been in a more irritated mood, I would've talked to the manager and had Jared fired on the spot. Service 0/2.5 Overall, I would say that the food is good but after scrolling past reviews, it seems that this Jared has a serious attitude problem and needs to be dealt with. We were standing by the pick up window the whole time so I'm not sure why he didn't call her name when he was calling everybody elses'? Best part is that after we started to walk away, one of the employees came out and made an announcement that you can order drinks from the cart. Half the queue got out of line and moved over there... This should be on a sign somewhere so that you can get in the correct line and not wait forever to order.

My wife and I were extremely uncomfortable and honestly considered leaving. We had been enjoying our stay at the resort for several days, but this experience completely changed our mood. We ultimately stayed because we were exhausted after spending the entire day at the beach and did not want to leave the resort to find another restaurant. Unfortunately, we did not enjoy the meal because of how we were treated. Despite everything, we still left a 20% tip. The next day, we happened to see one of the hostesses and one of the servers from our dinner. When they saw us, they gave us a very strange look, which made the whole experience even more uncomfortable. I am not claiming to know exactly why we were treated differently. The poke salad came with a generous amount of vegetables, I ended up finishing the tuna poke and taking home half of the salad. The poke was fresh and well seasoned! The wait was a little long on the weekend, it took roughly 40 minutes to get our food. Street parking is available, and it's around a 15-20 minute walk to the beach!

The green pesto with fresh veggies and squash blossoms was our absolute favorite. And of course you cannot go wrong with the classic margarita pizza... We had their summer tomato, ricotta salad, very fresh and delicious. And nothing goes better with a fresh pizza than a refreshing peach lemonade. I must tell you, make a reservation for these Friday night Pizza event events. There are no walk-ins. Plenty of parking, kid and dog friendly. It's the best way to spend a warm summer evening.

You had to order your food and bus your own table. We got 2 local FISH wrap sandwiches which we thought would be an actual cooked tuna fillet. We asked and she said it was local caught tuna. I didn't ask further on how it was prepared. But I assumed by her response it was cooked fish. However, it was made into a cold tuna salad...prepared ahead of time and then packaged in paper. For $36! It wasn't that good, it was soggy and basically mush. It's like being at the airport and getting in the fridge section of the grab and go. You would think a farm had all fresh food to serve. Not the case in this particular menu item and can't speak for other items. After reading some other reviews that say similar sentiments (like the food isn't that good) and yet giving 4 stars (customers need to be honest, that is false advertising). We won't be back. I will say that the 2 chickens they have were cute!

I've had such great experiences at this family-owned cafe and bakery and really wanted to give them…read moresome well-deserved recognition. Most recently, they made a custom cake for my nephew, and my whole family absolutely loved it! It was beautiful, exactly what we were hoping for, and tasted just as good as it looked. The baker is incredibly talented, and you can tell a lot of care went into making it. I've also been here on separate occasions for brunch, and the food has always been delicious. The staff has always taken such great care of us and made us feel welcome. I especially love supporting family-owned small businesses, and this is the kind of place I'm happy to come back to. Thank you for the beautiful cake, the delicious food, and the wonderful service!

DAYS old pastries should be given away to employees or marked down. This shows a lack of care/professionalism on owners part. Staff was great but the restaurant was consistently understaffed and servers/bussers stretched to the max. I felt sorry for how stressed they ALL were! Owner needs to rethink the needs as it could be a much better experience for everyone.
