I went back into his shop on Monday and he explained what the coins were worth (at market rate). He was also very upfront and transparent on his fees (which ended up being around 10%). Everything seemed reasonable so I proceeded forward. He wrote me a check and kept the silver and the transaction was complete. It couldn't have been any easier. I have been patronizing this business for decades. I stopped in for a battery replacement for my…read morewatch, and to have the band adjusted. It was adjusted free of charge. I came back about a month later to have it re-adjusted, and it was taken care of, again, as a complimentary service. I came back again several months later for a re-adjustment , and a different sales rep. was present. When I asked to have the adjustment, He looked at me almost like I was an intruder, and then my watch, and then said in a blunt and somewhat intimidating way "twenty dollars". I said it was taken care of free of charge last time, and he said " No. We don't do that. We don't even carry that brand . It's twenty dollars". I was quite surprised at the attitude of this person, and asked to talk to management. He said " OK, but he'll just tell you the same thing". So, a fella with grey hair came out from the back room with the meanest and nastiest look on his face, and a glare in his eyes that made me wonder if he was all right. He also told me, in an extremely angry and intimidating way ,"We don't do that!". I told him that it was already adjusted two times this year, complimentary, and he said, "No it wasn't!", and then I said, calmly, "Yes, it was." He asked when, and I told him , and again , he said "No it wasn't!". Then he asked who the sales rep. was, and when I described the person , he said angrily, " That's my NEPHEW!". WOW!! OK, well, I didn't come here to argue, so I wished him well, and stopped in to a local competitor, where they happily adjusted the band free of charge. It really helps to be courteous to people. Now, I have a new jeweler to give my business to. Geez. If only I could give a -0 rating. 1 star is just to generous. I live in the same neighborhood. There's a good reason his parking lot is usually empty. Thoughts of retirement should definitely be given high priority here.

I had taken my watch to a major clock and repair business in the Berea, Ohio area. For years they replaced my battery and pins in the band, always telling me that its not the pins, but the hole had widen and it will keep falling out. The last time they did not put the battery in right and bent the hour hand. I thought my favorite expensive watch was broke. My wife new how much I like my watch and for christmas bought me an expensive watch. I liked it but liked my old watch more. I called the jewelry shop and they informed me about Basch's repair business. It turned out the reason my watch was not working correctly, is the hour hand was bent when the other store put in the last battery (young know it all man). Basch's watch repair expert realized there was a broken pin stuck in the pin hole, and unbent the hour hand. Watch looks and works like the day I bought it ten years ago.
