Chris came by to fix my light in the kitchen and my garbage disposal. Called him a couple days ahead to schedule an appointment on my day off. Was able to fix the garbage disposal in a snap and gave me some great advice on how to keep it clean and running well. He went above and beyond by also cleaning out the sink drains. He then went on to fix the light and also tighten the fixture to the wall because it was loose. Overall it was a great experience, Chris did a great job. The weather started to get cold, and unfortunately we had a problem with the hot water. The water got colder and colder each day, and we suspected there might be a problem with our water heater. We called Chris, and it turned out a part of the heater is not working and the fire was almost dying. He tried reboot it and didn't work, so he tried to replace the part and it worked! As I was attempting to do some electrical work myself (bad idea), I managed to knock out the power to half my house. It was 8 PM and I attempted to get a hold of several different electricians, mostly to no avail. Luckily, Chris was the one guy to answer his phone. I explained what had happened and he talked me through a few things over the phone. Once we determined I needed a breaker replaced, he checked to see if it could wait till morning. After he suggested I run an extension cord to my fridge, we were good for the night. He arrived at 8 AM the next morning and replaced my blown breaker. He also finished my attempted do it yourself job, which was trickier than I expected (it's a 100 year old house). Chris fixed everything we needed, was prompt and pleasant. So our garbage disposal started leaking from the bottom, and my wife called him (don't know honestly how she decided on him). Chris was there quickly, and took care of the situation with what I thought was fair pricing and an honest evaluation of the issue. When it was decided that the disposal needed to be replaced, he gave choices and opinions about new disposals. We set up a time the next morning to have the work done, and he was on time (correspondence via text). After finishing the job, he also gave a few pointers on how to keep the plumbing clean, and was very friendly and knowledgable throughtout the whole process. Really a great experience. I highly recommend Your Local Handyman, Inc. Don't be misled by the name, because they are full service licensed contractors. They do everything. I had them work on a house that needed significant work due to its age and neglect. The work conditions were VERY challenging, and yet they never complained. They completely remodeled the bathroom, all the way down to the floor joists, and did an excellent job of it. Chris, the owner, has assembled a wonderful team of professionals. Thank you especially to Justin and Anthony, who were on the job nearly every day. Also, Enrique and his guys did a wonderful job with the painting! I like the fact that YLH workers work in an organized fashion, and are quite fast without being careless. I have hired contractors before who do superb work but are as slow as molasses, thereby costing more in the end. YLH workers are courteous, conscientious and hardworking. I also especially appreciate that none of them smoke and they always show up for work clean and well groomed. I have hired some tradespeople in the past, and while the work was fine, it was unpleasant to have them in my home because they reeked of cigarette smoke or even beer. This sort of thing matters to me. Chris and his team went the extra mile for me, as I was under deadline to get the work finished. They worked extra hours and on a Saturday to make sure the job was completed on time. As for price, I would say that YLH charges a bit more than average for the work. They are not the most expensive contractor in town, but they do not come cheap. Their prices are fair considering their experience and the quality of the work. I believe it is well worth working with this team, over a cheaper contractor. I find that you usually get what you pay for. I did not have a very good experience with Chris. I contacted him for an estimate on my loft room. I felt he was unfriendly and uncommunicative. He was late with my estimate and then reluctant to complete it at all. When I did receive the estimate, it was much higher than my other estimates. Chris and his team are the best! We have been using Chris' services for at least year and a half. We had a number of smaller and bigger jobs and found that work and service we receive from Chris' team is of high quality. When we have an emergency Chris always comes the same day and at least isolates the problem (i.e. water leak). He is always on time and his customer service is top of the line. His team fixed our laundry exhaust earlier this year and when the same problem occurred a few weeks ago Chris and his team came immediately to fix the problem and did not charge us for it!
