I tried to cancel the service numerous times but I was ensured by Alex and Andrew that I would be provided great service at a price that I could afford. Now you can relax, Public Moving has a team of qualified people to assist with your move from start to finish! When the process was started I could get ahold of Alex or anyone from the company, as soon as I signed the contract and paid the deposit all I could do was leave messages and wait days for a response. You can expect a follow up call from our Quality Assurance Dept within 1-5 days prior to your scheduled pickup. The purpose of our QA dept is to determine if you would like to add additional items, or possibly remove them from your inventory. This is to ensure we have the most up to date information and we are logistically allotting for enough space on our truck. We understand things can sometimes change, and that's why we have our QA team in place. I never received a call, and though I had a pick-up date and an alternate date for inclement weather. I received a call the day prior to pick up saying they were not going to make it on my scheduled date. And they would use the alternate day even though it was 75 degrees and sunny. So I took the following day off, it was not until 3pm when I received a phone call saying they would try to still make it. They said they would call right back, 4 hours later they called back and said sometime the next day they would be out, making me have to take an additional day off of work. That was sent by Alex Beckham, I informed him that I could not afford that price, he then came back and said they would charge me $2340.00 taking away the shuttle fee. I told him if there are no hidden charges I can agree to the $2340.00. Alex said his manager approved the $2340.00 and will send out the contract himself. After I received the contract the Cubic feet on the contract changed from 700cf to 600cf. So I ask if I would be charged additional fees when the movers arrived. Alex responded and I quote "No. On top of the moving contract it says "Binding Moving Estimate" it means it's a binding not to exceed price contract. I responded "I am not trying to be difficult but they all say that" Alex responded "You have my word your price will not exceed $2340.00" "My manager emailed you the paperwork so trust me its good. I had to fight for you today and get this price approved by my GM because they weren't going for it" So, when the movers finally showed up and packed me out the final cost was $3401.02 which included yet another hidden fee of $193.32 for tape and shrink wrap. There is no way to track on line just have to call and hope someone answers the phone. There were numerous calls that were not answered as well as messages not replied to. Final when Cathy's call was answered the dispatcher was very rude and abrupt. She could not tell Cathy where the shipment presently was nor when it would be delivered. For the next few days the excuses given included. The weather was bad, people were out sick and the truck broke down. Whatever the excuses whether they were true or not is no excuse for the fact there was limited too no contact. Finally when someone answered Cathy was reassured she would get a notice before delivery would arrive. A call came in saying less than 2 weeks, than another call saying within 72 hours. Cathy was told as time got closer she would receive another call. The next call she got was we are outside where are you. Mind you it is 5:45pm, who shows up at 5:45pm to deliver household goods without prior notice. The movers did not see a problem with this. The movers said they called myself many times that day to give an update. First that is a lie, I received one call that I missed from a number I did not recognize and no message was left. This review is predicated upon understanding moving is incredibly stressful and selecting a moving company can be a crap shoot. I selected Public primarily because they were able to work with my short time frame. I needed to move within two weeks, and they made it happen. The contract process was fine with the exception of my estimate being WAY below the actual cost. The contract lays out the "extras" you will be charged - multiple stairs, long carries, etc. - so I was prepared for them. Somehow my cubic feet allotment was not enough (despite staying within the list of items I was quoted), and I had to pay about $1000 more than my quote. That being said, a friend of mine was moving at the same time, and she had a similar issue with her moving company. Perhaps the low/reasonable quote is just part of the sales game. Something also worth noting in the contract is how they accept payment. Credit cards are only accepted for the deposit, so you'll need to pay with personal check, cash, or money order at pickup and cash or money order at delivery. The pick-up team was very efficient. It took not quite 3 hours to get my 1 bedroom apartment into the truck. This included time to wrap my furniture. I had everything else boxed and ready to go when they arrived. Delivery happened about 10 days later which was a few days later than the expected delivery BUT within the time frame on the contract (4-30 days). I was a bit uneasy because the truck that arrived was not a "Public" truck as I was told it would be, but ultimately it wasn't worth worrying about. The delivery team was great and finished under 2 hours. They placed all of my large furniture in the general area I wanted and then I unwrapped each piece while they continued to unload the truck. 99% of my belongings arrived unharmed. The remaining 1% included small/trivial items (such as a wine glass) that weren't worth reporting to the insurance company I had purchased coverage through. At the end of the day, Public got my belongings from point A to point B which was the whole point in hiring them. There are certainly reasons I'm not giving them 4 or 5 stars, but my experience wasn't horrible by any means. A few things to keep in mind: -Plan to pay more than the quote. -Read the contract fully to understand extra charges. -Understand the delivery time frame and prepare to be without your belongings for the duration. -In a credit-card driven world, be prepared to use other methods of payment. -Purchase the insurance that is offered. -Be nice to the pickup and delivery teams. Even if you're having a bad customer service experience with the office, these teams typically aren't affiliated with them but ultimately are the ones who have your belongings in their hands. read more

When I first sought after a moving company to move my furniture (only a one bedroom) from Houston TX to North Carolina, they quoted me $1,770.00. I received the quote from Alex. I asked him if this was the official and final quote, and he said that the quote was official and I had a lot more space available and it would not be a problem. On the day of the move they told me that it was $3,375.00, "because they quoted me on 5 square feet but mine was 8 square feet" (just by visual). They hadn't even took anything out of my storage to determine that and then they told me that I could not get my down payment back (so I was forced to use them). I had to get more money and didn't have the total amount until my next payday and they added $160.00 to unload and reload when I was ready. Once I paid the remaining upfront amount, they said they would be in NC, where I live now, in 3-5 days. They were not here in 3-5 days, it was more like 6 days. On top of all of that I was missing a bin with $700.00 worth of items, which I didn't realize until after they left. read more

I will be short and precise. Not a nice company. They are Liars. Be careful. They gave estimate but it got doubled in Square footage after pick up. Total cost was over $5000 for Raleigh to LA. They took roughly $2800 . My destination got changed from Raleigh to Charlotte and they are asking another $1000 to deliver my stuff. Angela is rude and unprofessional. Alex is a sweet talker. I wish i could give them no stars. We had a terrible experience with these people. I will share a summary of our experience. They are the rudest people on earth i felt. They have no procedure in place. We were supposed to move our stuff on saturday at 4pm. These guys arrived Sunday 11pm. Every time they will call and say they are coming in another 2 hrs. Finally they arrived, then it was rudeness is all i remember. Charged extra for everything. $40 if u need any cardboard box from them. They did not pack anything(when we took the quote they said they will be packing and moving and we need not do a thing). It was like a nightmare. Could not call their office at 11pm night, so had no other option than taking boxes from them and packing stuff ourselves. We had to reach Chicago Monday morning for work. They moved some heavy furniture we packed rest and finally they loaded all the things and told us that they are starting for Chicago right then. Now comes the second phase of suffering. After 3 weeks of calling and tracking, our stuff reached Chicago from Columbus(usually a 5 hours drive). Calls were interesting too, everytime same rude lady picks up the call. Without even asking for details, she has only one reply.... She cannot give any ETA and our stuff will come when it has to. She cannot do anything. Last phase.. Rude guys get your stuff to home.. Charge extra for elevator and long walk from elevator to our door(which would be hardly 20 feets). They need only cash and they start unloading only after they get the cash in hand. Not ready to fix your furniture but this time i made them to fix everything before leaving. While unloading they have broken common lights in our apartment. Now following up with them for getting that claim settled. I dont have any hopes for that now. I think my pocket will have to bear that expense too. read more

Don't let them fool you. I contracted for service and estimated the volume. Once I realized the original estimate was going to be too low, I called to revise it. They charged a $350 revision fee in addition to collecting additional pre-payments. Once the truck arrived to pick up the items, the foreman on the crew informed me the volume was over 40% more than the revision. That is impossible because during the process of revising each item with dimensions was provided so there is no way the estimate could be off by that much. On top of all of that, they provide the moving blankets, but what they don't tell you is they don't provide the means to secure them, so another hit of $200 for tape. Calls to customer service were not helpful at all, and eventually I was called a liar. Fortunately I was able to move myself for less than 1/2 of what they were going to charge. They prey on people that don't have a choice and are basically forced to complete the move with all the increases in the first estimate. Awful experience, so save your time, money, and sanity and find someone else. I would give zero stars if that was even an option read more

A moving experience is stressful enough when you have an honest moving company. That is not the case with this company. Somehow while we were talking to another company; the only one we had contacted and were waiting for return call concerning a minor detail. Public Moving called my wife, called her by her first name to discuss our move. Since we had not contacted any other moving company we assumed Public Moving was associated with Budget. Following different phone conversations we agreed on the contract. That same day we received a phone call from Budget, they were not associated with Public Moving. We then contacted Public Moving, explained that we had made a mistake, we wanted to cancel our contract and our deposit back. All this transpired within two days. Public stated they would not refund our deposit, that they had expenses they had incurred on our purposed move! Bottom line, this company uses dishonest practices. very bad, also guys please make sure to count and sticker and note down anything they are liars and thief's, they will give you a good quote just to take your business but later they will scam extra out of your pocket, the guy who picked up from me was charging me for 1200 C yards while as i have been doing container loading so i can do little measurement and when i checked the actual was 800 c yards they will deliver it late never go for the verbal commitments once you sign the paper they put you under a hook then they don't care who you are? they are only concern at the timing to sign a contract from you later on they don't even answer the phone. Their scam starts from cheap prices i was told by other companies not to go for this company but i thought they are making me fool because their prices are a little competitive as compared to the competition, but as people say its not always good to go to these cheap companies, they will rip you off in the long run? i will never work with them, very bad experience read more
