Soul Food Sunday did not disappoint. I was in the mood for ox tails and Google sent me directly to YOUR PLACE DINER. I'm so glad to have stumbled upon such a neighborhood gem. The space is clean, has a full bar, dining area, with a separate entertainment area on the lower level. There was a live band section, dart board, jukebox & bar. Outdoor patio was also a nice touch. Niecey was a peach! Super welcoming; pleasant & gave me a tour of the establishment when I told her it was my first time in. The food was superb at an excellent price point. Ox tails were fall-off-the-bone delicious! Cabbage, Mac & cheese all made me wanna slap my mama. I'll be back very soon. ~Christy

Definitely soul food experience. Menu is different based on days of the week. Friendly server. Street parking.

WOWWWW... Yes... that's the best way I can describe my experience. I used multiple search engines to determine where to eat when I came to STL and this spot came up multiple times with great reviews and I am so glad that we were able to dine here while in town. The restaurant was about a 15 minute drive from our hotel which was in downtown STL, we took an Uber so we did not have to worry about parking. When we arrived the line was to the door but it moved quickly. While we did dine-in, we ordered our food first and then were directed to seat ourselves. The menu changes (I assume daily) and on the day of our visit, hubby and I ordered catfish, potato salad and green beans (I had traditional style but hubby ordered fried spicy green beans). We sat and waited for our food to be prepared, which may have taken about 15 mins (give or take a few) but either way, the wait didn't feel like it took long because we were able to enjoy the sounds of R&B from multiple eras and also had the pleasure to engage in light conversation with the owner, Ms. Yvette, the security guard and bartender - they were all personable and a little humorous. But when the food came out, all conversation stopped because hubby and I did not come up for air until we finished eating our dinner, which was WHOA-licious!!!! To translate, that's dangerously good! lol. The flavor of the catfish was superb! I ALWAYS put hot sauce on my catfish but decided not to and I'm so glad I didn't. The flavor, seasoning and texture were on point; it was perfectly golden brown and crispy. The traditional string beans, which were cooked in turkey were delicious, and supple; while the potato salad was fresh, tasty and had great texture. The fried, spicy greens beans had excellent flavor and were firm - neither hubby nor I had ever heard of or tasted this style of string beans and were thoroughly impressed! The portion sizes of our meals were great also! We mostly cleaned our plates so didn't have room for dessert but whenever we come back to STL, we WILL return (and save room for dessert next time)! If you are looking for a good vibe, warm atmosphere and want to WOW your palate, this spot is a MUST!!!

10/10 The customer service, other customer's energy, the wait time, THE MEAL !! Amazing wait time-planning a trip to drink and eat soon!!

After getting a great recommendation for this spot I decided to try it out for myself. The staff was great with helping with the menu and offering options. It's a really nice setup for sit down and or take out. The food is where this spot truly shines. The oxtail was tasty and juicy. The wings, mac and cheese and fish were all tasty. The portions are big which I am a fan of and don't forget to get a dessert. They aren't always thesame but always satisfied the sweet tooth! Now I know why this spot was talked off highly and I will definitely be back!!

Got wind that there was a soul food restaurant that just open yesterday, so I had to try it. We drove across town and I'm glad we did. Thankfully the dining room was empty - since we are still in a pandemic - I was comfortable dining in. I prefer to eat my food fresh from the kitchen as opposed to reheating once I get home. First thing I noticed was the full bar . Although I did not indulge this time, I'll try one of their specialty drinks next time. We were greeted by the friendly staff upon entering, seated promptly and provided the menu. The first thing they did was to offer to change the channel from sports to a kid- friendly option my 5 year old granddaughter. That got them three stars right then and there! We placed our orders right away, and the server even accommodated us with an off-menu option for my granddaughter. Within minutes our food was served and overall everything was delicious. I had baked ribs, macaroni and cheese and greens. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal, although I prefer my own greens (I'd still order them again). My daughter had the fried catfish. OMG. The batter was seasoned perfectly and fried to crispy perfection. Although this place is about a 30 minute drive from my home, I will def be back. The service alone is worth the trip!

While traveling with my 86 year old auntie from NY to AZ we stumbled upon this place. We searched Yelp for dinner and the food pics caught our eyes. Auntie was excited. Upon arrival, we were quite surprised. You can tell right away the owners took great pride in every detail. The music enhanced the ambiance. The staff helped auntie to her seat. We ordered the fish and grilled chicken. Truly to die for!! So thankful we found this place and the amazing staff.

If you're looking for a great soul food experience, this is the place. Today we got oxtails with dressing and cabbage, catfish with yams and Mac n cheese. When I say EVERYTHING was AMAZING...it truly was. You can take out or dine in, but the dining area is small. However, The entire experience was amazing from the time we walked in the door until the time we left. The servers, the food, and they offer a military discount, even though the food is reasonably priced. I would definitely recommend.

    Shannon L.

Generous portions of food are served warm and delicious! There is live music downstairs! The service is different than what is familiar to me. Instead of a waiter coming to your table, you go to the bar and place your order! Tonight I ordered the nachos! Tonight was the Rapper showcase and Art Show!

I walked in the door and just started grooving with what was happening in the place w the music playing in that moment and everyone was so friendly and easy and happy! Had a drink and We Said we could eat and the chef came out and laid out our options. We kinda wanted to try everything and couldn't decide and she just said "I'll make you a plate." Everything was delicious! I don't even like ribs and I was licking my fingers! We will be back soon. I'm very fond of My Place so far

Buffalo and Hot/Honey wings, fried okra and cauliflower, spaghetti, and green beans

This place is amazing. Ambiance is cool, service is personable and helpful, and the FOOD! Some of the best wings I've ever had, with the perfect amount of spice and juicy crunch. Literally everything was perfect. We ate ourselves silly and wished we'd had room for more. They were also really sweet and accommodating to our kids, which is the best.

I really really wanted to like this place, but I just can't. I'm not going to blaspheme against…read moresoul food by calling that stuff they were serving anything close to soul food. I also hadn't realized it was a buffet style restaurant (when I bought a certificate for the place on restaurant.com, they had a whole menu to order from. Imagine my surprise when we got there to this lunch lady cafeteria looking place. They need to update their info on restaurant.com so people will know what to expect. The food was COLD, had no flavor, what they called dressing was stove top stuffing, the macaroni was dry as hell with burned cheese on top. There was a tray that had what looked like tiny cubes of potato floating in some greenish water. The lady told me it was steamed broccoli. No ma'am, that's the part of the broccoli we usually throw away, where's the part that looks like a tree? Honest to goodness, that was THE worst spaghetti I've ever eaten. Not only did it taste TERRIBLE, it had the mouth feel of applesauce, super mushy. You could tell it was not only really cheap pasta, but they obviously boiled it for an hour and 45 minutes. The jiffy'ish corn muffin was so dry it just crumbled. And the sweet potato...notice I didn't say candied...was just a chunk of boiled sweet potato, no seasoning, no syrupy sauce, no butter. Our plates were still almost just as full when we left as they were when they served it to us. There was a sign stating only one dessert per customer. The guy that served us our food at the buffet kept hovering around us until my friend said she couldn't take it anymore. So we asked if we could just have our dessert to go, they told us there would be an upcharge for takeout. I will admit, the fried fish was EXACTLY the way I like it, not still soft and/or wet, but not cooked to death, a nice light hard fry. And the weird murky colored tea was flavorful, again, a real southern soul food cook would NEVER serve powdered tea mix, but it was pleasant tasting. But $5 for a glass of tea? The fact that the place was totally empty on a Friday night at 7pm should have alerted us that folks ain't busting down doors to eat here. The decor was pretty nice, the people were very sweet, but that cooking...smh. I've never gone to dinner with a friend and been in and out of a restaurant so fast. I think we spent a total of 20 minutes there. My friend paid, but later told me the bill was $60. That was $52 more than what it was worth.

Second thing, don't expect to pay the price that's on the online menu. I only went to this restaurant for the meatloaf and cabbage, and to try out their dressing, which they didn't have any of those. Third thing, I paid $57 for the worst meal I've had this year. I called before I left to ask if I could place an order on the phone (since the online ordering was not available). Whoever answered just said "No you may not" and hung up (wow, great customer service, I should have known then they weren't gonna have meatloaf.) I thought I'd arrived early enough in the day 2:30 to be getting lunch menu. But obviously, since my bill was $57, I guess I paid for dinner menu items, I definitely didn't pay the prices they showed online, I paid twice as much. When it comes to the food, the turkey wing had a weird vinegary flavor, the mac and cheese only had a layer of cheese on top, once you got past that pretty topping, there was just unsalted noodles. The black eyed peas just tasted like water. The flour wasn't cooked out enough in the chicken and dumplings, so it was more like just wet dough rather than dumplings. All the salt that all the other sides needed badly was used up in those salty greens, almost inedibly salty. The ratio of fruit to crust in the peach PIE, stop calling it a cobbler, was way off, like lots of dough, few peaches. And I don't know how they could call that mush banana pudding, it was very unpleasant, and I guess when they were making, someone forgot to put in the bananas! The yams and cornbread were good. I wasn't offered water, although menu says free water with each platter (and no, with good service, I shouldn't have to ask if it's listed as part of the meal).

This was my first time going to this restaurant and I've been wanting to try for about a year now…read more When I arrived the food smell good and the place looked clean and the staff was very friendly. We looked over the menu and we ended up ordering fried catfish, fried Green tomatoes, and fried pork chops. I also got a side order of mac and cheese and mashed potatoes and gravy and fried okra. The fried green tomatoes came out and I felt like they were overcooked very mushy inside. The outer banner was very crunchy and cooked well the inside didn't really have much taste. The menu said they would serve it with a ranch dressing but it ended up being some other type of reddish sweet and sour type creamy dressing. It was ok. The pork chops we're dry and the meat tasted old. I think they need to change their meat supplier. The mashed potatoes taste it like I had a ton of garlic powder. In my opinion a restaurant should never use garlic powder but instead use fresh garlic in their dishes. It's really easy just to throw cloves of garlic in the potatoes as you're boiling them. Or roast them. I was burping up garlic for several hours after I left. You can often judge a soul food restaurant by their mac and cheese. The mac and cheese was baked but the cheese sauce tasted like nacho cheese sauce. Or some type of ready-made cheese sauce. And they just mixed up the cheese sauce with some elbow pasta, threw some American cheese on top and threw it in the oven. It was not the worst mac and cheese I ever had but it was definitely not good. The restaurant was very clean and I like their decor. Ray came out talking to customers and checking on their satisfaction. He was nice and I didn't have the heart to give him bad news. But I really believe unless they fix their recipes and show more imagination that they're not going to make it. Lighten up on the salt. The food was too salty. I wanted to try their sweet potato pie but after me and disappointed by all the other dishes I changed my mind. I probably won't be going back. 65 bucks for dinner for two.

Message upon placing the order initially showed my order would be ready in an hour. An hour later got another "actual" confirmation that my food would be ready in yet another hour (so 2-hours after placing the order if you're keeping up). So at approximately the 2-hr mark I got a message my food was ready. Supposedly you can "skip the line" meaning you don't need to stand in the ridiculously long line for those ordering in person. I stood in the 2nd line (there's a separate line for online orders. Would be fantastic if they actually had any organization and if your food is truly ready. Mine was not! guy would come out of the kitchen periodically and ask for names, then disappear back into the kitchen. So I still had a 20-minutes wait - for food that I was told was ready. Anyway to the food. I paid almost $34 for meat, 3-sides and dessert. They do give you a lot of food so I was able to make 3 meals which boils down to a little over $10/meal. Not bad. The oxtails were tender and delectable. Macaroni and cheese was juicy a la Kraft Mac n Cheese. Tasted ok but I don't like juicy macaroni. The greens had a weird spice (dill?) that does not belong in greens. The sweet potatoes were ok, but again there was a weird additive that made the juice almost gel-like. I got a smaller than shot glass size cup with a tiny cube of cranberry sauce. ‍. Peach cobbler was perfect! The dining room was dark - no, not romantic - DARK. Not sure if that was intentional - or if it's like that all the time, but it was mid afternoon on an overcast day so turn on some lights people! I couldn't tell if the place was clean or not. Bottom line, given all of the issues, I probably won't need to go back there - but at least I can say I tried it. Oh and parking SUCKS.
