Walked over to Gary's fine dining after seeing a show at the fox. Upon coming inside. They are very welcoming. They start you off with ice water. They didn't ask us if we wanted anything other than water. Which no biggie. I'd been interested a cider beer or something. 3 of us did salads. Two of which were the chicken Caesar. The other one was a house salad with fish. My friends significant other ordered the double cheese burger with fries. He said the burger was really good! They really stay on top of your water refills. They even asked us if the music that was playing was too loud: it didn't bother us one bit. Reminds of a place I've been to up north in Chicago! We think Gary was the man pacing back n forth making sure things were going okay. The chicken in our salad was just okay. Maybe too chewy. Croutons were nice and crispy. Oh we also go free desert. Our food was delicious, and reasonably priced. The theaters all left out around the same time so they had a big influx of diners and they were short staffed. There was an unpleasant musty-mold smell upon entering, but we did not smell it at our table. read more

We came to try out Gary's before seeing Hadestown at the Fox. We normally eat at the Stage Left Grille, and while we love it there we wanted to try something new. We got there at 5:30, got our order taken at around 5:40, and by 6:30 only one of our party of five had gotten their meal. We looked around and saw other people similarly sitting at empty tables, not receiving their food. It looked like they only had one cook on duty in the kitchen. The people next to us, who had gotten their order taken before we arrived, waited easily twenty to thirty minutes just to get their check. We later found out there was evidently a blackout preventing their card reader and computer from working, but we did not receive this information until we told our server we were leaving, as we didn't want to miss our show. Now, it is not their fault that their machines went down, but the lack of communication for nearly an hour is the issue. It is irresponsible to accept business from people without telling them their payment options are limited. Other patrons, similarly fed up with how long service was taking and not wanting to miss the show at the Fox, got up and left without having ever been brought their food. We paid cash for our one meal and drinks, while our server argued with us about how long we had been sitting there waiting for our food and then proceeded to yell at the bus boy for how long the food was taking. We ended up just having pretzels at the Fox before the show started. Needless to say, we will not be returning. If you're looking for a place to eat before seeing a show at the Fox, look elsewhere. read more

Our group of 6 had a reservation and we were seated promptly. Server brought water and we placed our orders. From here, it goes downhill. Meals came out at different times, my Cesar salad with chicken was last; took over an hour and everyone else at our table was already finished eating. Sprinkled with paprika, it looked pretty. Lettuce was fresh, but croutons were like little brown rocks. It was dressed in a vinaigrette that tasted more like vinegar than anything else instead of a creamy Cesar dressing. The chicken amounted to a couple of tablespoons of cubed chicken. One of our group said the liver and onions was terrible, very tough, and another that the fish and fries was barely warm. The complimentary cheesecake was good, but didn't compensate for the meal. Perhaps it was just an off night. We had such a wonderful experience at Gary's Fine Dining off Grande that I had to share. From the moment we walked in, the entire staff made us feel genuinely welcome! Our waitress, Tracy, was absolutely fantastic. She was personable, attentive, and incredibly accommodating, striking that perfect balance between checking in and giving us space to enjoy our meal. You can tell she truly cares about the experience she gives her guests. She was also incredibly sweet to my daughter who sometimes has issues in social situations and made her feel comfortable. The food was just as impressive. My daughter ordered the seafood pasta, and it was beautifully done, rich, creamy, and packed with flavor without being too heavy. I went with the fish and chips, and it was exactly what you hope for...the fish was moist and tender on the inside with a perfectly crispy, golden exterior. And then the desserts...wow! Rich, indulgent, and absolutely worth saving room for. Between the excellent food, the warm atmosphere, and standout service from Tracy, this is a place we'll definitely be coming back to. We chose Gary's Fine Dining because it was conveniently located near the Fox Theater and planned to go and eat there over an hour before our show, assuming that would be more than enough time. Unfortunately, our experience was extremely disappointing from start to finish. Within the first 10 minutes, we received our drinks and placed our food order, which initially seemed promising. However, we then waited nearly 50 minutes for our food while watching multiple tables (who were seated after us) receive and finish their meals. Throughout that entire time, no one checked on us or acknowledged the delay. It wasn't until we were visibly frustrated that our server finally approached us. When we explained that we needed to leave in 15 minutes to make our show, we were told our food would be out "any second." That never happened. We ultimately had to leave without eating. To make matters worse, from our table we could clearly see the kitchen preparing slices of cheesecake, and staff were handling the food with their bare hands, which was appalling. This was easily the worst sit-down restaurant experience I've ever had, especially considering the restaurant wasn't even that busy. The food was awful. The service was slow. The ambiance was just ok. This was a retry for us. I ordered salmon with double vegetables no rice. They brought me tilapia with rice and veggies. When they replaced my meal with salmon. It was over cooked and grainy. The first veggies on the wrong meal were perfect. The replacement meal had overcooked veggies with teriyaki. I couldn't eat the meal. I also ordered grey goose with cranberry juice. It was watered down. I won't recommend the salmon. My son ordered the catfish. It was amazing. read more

I have never been to Gary's Fine Dining before, so I had no idea what to expect. And boy, let me tell you, what I got was not what I was expecting! First off I got to meet Gary (the man himself) and his beautiful wife at the door. They are the sweetest couple, and just make you feel like family. Maurice, the bartender, now that man can make a drink. If I'm not familiar with a bartender, I always test their skill by ordering a dirty vodka, martini straight up. Let me tell you, that martini was so smooth, it went down so easily that I had to order another one. When I looked at the menu, I wasn't blown away by it, but when I saw somebody else order the burger, I knew I had to have one. The couple sitting at the bar next to me, were on their way to a show and needed their food fast. The kitchen pulled out all the stops, and I swear that man got his burger in two minutes flat! Now, let's talk about the cherry on top of it all, the live band. When I tell you that this band had my jaw on the floor at the very first note they sang, I am not exaggerating. The band was called G-Spot, and that is exactly what they hit! I was cheering and hooping and hollering for them on every song. Now I don't remember the name of every person who was sing, but let me tell you they ALL had me falling out of my seat. Saman Swanson though, she was hitting high Cs like she was Mariah Carey! The food was great! It's difficult to wow with a Chef's salad but they did. Ample amounts of turkey, bacon, ham, and chicken, very fresh greens, just enough cheese, fresh eggs, and an excellent blue cheese dressing. My friends ordered the steak cheesesteaks and the meat was tender, the hoagie was fresh, and the peppers and onions were cooked perfectly. Everyone gets a free piece of either chocolate or plain cheesecake with caramel sauce and whipped cream. The only complaint is that my entree salad came out 15 minutes before everyone else's meal. Fine dining is a stretch. 2 things that stand out about this business: very friendly staff and the lovely slice of chocolate cake that they seem to give everyone at meals end. My salmon was just okay but the broccoli served with it was way overcooked. My friend got salmon salad and said it was okay. They don't have a wine menu so the waiter had to tell us what varietals they served. Usually fine dining implies a wine list! My friend and I went to Gary's before the Thursday matinee at the Fox. This was our first visit to Gary's. What a peasant surprise!!! The service was wonderful. All the waitstaff were extremely pleasant. I ordered the liver and onions and it arrived stemming hot and it was tasty and the liver was very tender. The staff was very intune to our time requirements to arrive at the Fox on time for the show. Right before the check arrived our server brought us 2 pieces of cheesecake with a raspberry sauce and real whipped cream. During a weekend trip to St. Louis, we stumbled upon this restaurant and were lured in by the sandwich board advertising 2 entrees (with drink and dessert) for $20. The attractive pricing even included tax, so our final bill was an even $20. The atmosphere is charming, and our server was a dear. This place will remain in my mind forever because the double burger was literally the largest burger I have ever consumed. Yes, it's messy, but it was so delicious, as were the crispy fries. As an ardent fan of burgers, I seriously loved this lunch. My meal ended with a slice of heavenly cheesecake that I would probably indulge in too often if I lived there! That's false advertising with the owner trying to pass engineered fish as catfish. The boiled vegetables and rice had so much sodium in them. The pasta is prepackaged, not made from scratch. The plate-bowl was swimming in sauce, that you couldn't see the very small amount of noodles on the plate-bowl, the bread was swimming in the sauce and they called this Fined Dining, more like Lying Dining. I went to Gary's for a birthday dinner with 12 other people that were seated at 3 different tables. There were 7 of us at my table. It took 25 minutes to get a menu and another 30 minutes to place or order. The waiter took orders for 5 of us then walked away. After 15 minutes we had to flag him down to take the rest of the orders. We never were able to order drinks and I couldn't even get a drink at the bar because they ignored me. After that it took 40 minutes to get food and I didn't get mine until I asked the manager where my food was. They didn't have the crab stuffed shrimp and never told me. The house band "The G Spot" is spectacular! Rhythm & blues, with three singers backed by a quartet, all talented. They play on Friday and Saturday nights. We were there on a Friday. The staff made us feel welcome. One of the singers moved around the place and sang to the guests up close. There was a steady flow of guests meeting and greeting, many of them dressed very sharp. Actually heard one dinner say those exact words as they walked by us. Food: Very limited menu. The quality of food leads me to believe that the cook staff has no form of culinary education and the kitchen is not designed to handle the seating capacity of the restaurant. The rice that came with the crab stuff shrimp was dry, yet cold. A number of items where not available. The burger and steak that where ordered left you wanting more and a loss of appetite at the same time. The double patty burger where so thin and burnt. The lettuce and tomato where wilted from what seemed to be a long time under the warmer. The steak was order medium rare but came out rare. No seasoned and wasn't allowed to rest. Though when trying to order the pasta I was told it wasn't available, as I walked out a number of table had it. The table next too ours got raw chicken served to them. Staff: Friendly but overwhelmed. No dress code or proper mask wearing. Price: Dish price are way over market value. Bar: No set drink menu. It is hit or miss in what they have in order make ur drink. As we were walking down from the Grandel we decided to try Garry's for a quick bit to eat. The staff was friendly and our waiter introduced himself and handed us a menu. Wanting something quick we ordered the chicken nuggets. There were four large pieces of chicken served piping hot with French fries. As what has become a norm, since Covid, the catsup was served in a small cup. We had to request more. The restaurant was clean and the staff neat and friendly and the pricing competitive. We had to refill our own water, get our own drinks at the bar,and check in our order after 45 minutes. They put it I again. We got served at 6:45. I ordered Catfish which comes with broccoli and rice. I got a plate of white, limp fries alongside the Catfish. The burger was burned on the bottom. The chicken fingers were unappetizing and we had to ask for condiments. There was a banquet going on and we were seated by the steam tables? Other people were also seated around us and ignored. Chicken couldn't figure out what it was soaking in. Potatoes and gravy were warm. Pasta dish tasted so bad I only had 2 bites. Corn was fine. Broccoli was WAY over cooked and mushy. I was sitting at the bar and it took me twenty minutes to get water. When I received my food it took five additional minutes to get silverware. They only brought a fork, no knife. I ordered fried catfish and the mixed vegetables tasted like they had been sprayed with Raid roach spray.
