Going to Gary's warms my heart every time - this is a true St. Louis business. The staff are awesome. Gary is always dressed to the nines. There is thought put into all they do - including having colors that match the holiday that is close by on the tables. The food also tastes great and comes out in a timely fashion. I highly recommend stoping by here for dinner next time you go to the Fox or Symphony!

Our group of 6 had a reservation and we were seated promptly. Server brought water and we placed our orders. From here, it goes downhill. Meals came out at different times, my Cesar salad with chicken was last; took over an hour and everyone else at our table was already finished eating. Sprinkled with paprika, it looked pretty. Lettuce was fresh, but croutons were like little brown rocks. It was dressed in a vinaigrette that tasted more like vinegar than anything else instead of a creamy Cesar dressing. The chicken amounted to a couple of tablespoons of cubed chicken. One of our group said the liver and onions was terrible, very tough, and another that the fish and fries was barely warm. The complimentary cheesecake was good, but didn't compensate for the meal. Perhaps it was just an off night. But, when I observed a server carrying a full pitcher of water with his thumb on the inside of the pitcher, that clinched it for me. Sorry, I won't be back.

I have never been to Gary's Fine Dining before, so I had no idea what to expect. And boy, let me tell you, what I got was not what I was expecting! First off I got to meet Gary (the man himself) and his beautiful wife at the door. They are the sweetest couple, and just make you feel like family. Maurice, the bartender, now that man can make a drink. If I'm not familiar with a bartender, I always test their skill by ordering a dirty vodka, martini straight up. Let me tell you, that martini was so smooth, it went down so easily that I had to order another one. When I looked at the menu, I wasn't blown away by it, but when I saw somebody else order the burger, I knew I had to have one. The couple sitting at the bar next to me, were on their way to a show and needed their food fast. The kitchen pulled out all the stops, and I swear that man got his burger in two minutes flat! Now, let's talk about the cherry on top of it all, the live band. When I tell you that this band had my jaw on the floor at the very first note they sang, I am not exaggerating. The band was called G-Spot, and that is exactly what they hit! I was cheering and hooping and hollering for them on every song. Now I don't remember the name of every person who was sing, but let me tell you they ALL had me falling out of my seat. Saman Swanson though, she was hitting high Cs like she was Mariah Carey! All in all I went in not knowing what to expect, and really only anticipating having a drink and then leaving. I ended by having at least five drinks, dinner, and left, feeling like family. To Gary and his lovely wife: you guys have a real gem here, keep up the good work!

My friend wanted to try this place before we went to a performance at Fox so I indulged her. Fine dining is a stretch. 2 things that stand out about this business: very friendly staff and the lovely slice of chocolate cake that they seem to give everyone at meals end. My salmon was just okay but the broccoli served with it was way overcooked. My friend got salmon salad and said it was okay. They don't have a wine menu so the waiter had to tell us what varietals they served. Usually fine dining implies a wine list! Evidently they have music on some nights so that may be a good thing to enjoy there.

During a weekend trip to St. Louis, we stumbled upon this restaurant and were lured in by the sandwich board advertising 2 entrees (with drink and dessert) for $20. The attractive pricing even included tax, so our final bill was an even $20. The atmosphere is charming, and our server was a dear. This place will remain in my mind forever because the double burger was literally the largest burger I have ever consumed. Yes, it's messy, but it was so delicious, as were the crispy fries. As an ardent fan of burgers, I seriously loved this lunch. My meal ended with a slice of heavenly cheesecake that I would probably indulge in too often if I lived there! Worth noting is that they were open in the past, then took a hiatus and have been open again for around a year now, according to our server.

The gator po'boy was good, though on the dryer side. I would have loved more of the sauce on mine. The chips were perfectly crispy crunchy! My partner got the lobster roll and scarfed it down in a few bites. A bit on the pricier side since it's based on the market value, but still delicious. Fantastic food, mediocre service…read more I took my partner her for his birthday, we were planning to celebrate with friends over the weekend but I wanted to treat him to a romantic dinner with incredible food in a laid back environment and this completely fit the bill. We had been previously for brunch but neither of us had been for dinner so we were really excited. From the moment we walked in the vibes just felt off. Not bad, just off. I made a reservation for 7pm. When we pulled up at 6:55 I noticed that my reservation confirmation showed 6:45. I'm certain I made it for 7:00. Not sure what happened there, and not blaming them for that, but I'm curious if that's why things felt off. When creating a reservation it prompts you to include any dietary restrictions and whether you are celebrating anything. I included that we were celebrating a 40th birthday. Despite the restaurant being relatively empty we were crammed directly next to another table despite other 2 tops being available. We were close enough to our neighbors to hear their entire conversation. It's a small space, I get it, but it felt odd especially since several tables around us remained empty for the 2 hours of our visit. I enjoy a leisurely dinner but that not what this was. The service was just that slow and inattentive that it took that long. We saw our server visit the table next to us several times before we were even greeted. I waited about 10 minutes before finally going to the bathroom and that's when he decided to come to the table, so if there was a greeting, listing specials anything at all I missed it'. He came by again when my partner was in the bathroom. We had already waited a while, I would not have minded waiting a little longer for us both to be present for the greeting. I want to be clear that the service was in no way bad, it was just very lackluster. The only real issue we ran into was waiting a very long time for one of our appetizers. Not the end of the world, but for the caliber of restaurant that this is I would at least expect attentive or kind or personable service and it was none of those. He was nice enough, but was very much an order-taker only. We were not offered any suggestions or recommendations at all, it felt very transactional. The kicker was as we were leaving we see someone (not our server) approaching our table with a dessert and a candle. They specifically walked past another party towards where we were sitting (the table next to us was gone by this point). We had paid our bill about 10 minutes earlier and were just walking away. I think "oh they are bringing him a birthday dessert how sweet!" So we sit back at our table only to see the same person backtrack to a nearby table and bring the dessert to them. I was mortified for thinking it was for us and actually sitting back down. We leave, there are 3 people standing there (including the person who brought the dessert and saw the whole thing) and no one even acknowledges us leaving. It was all just so bizarre. I wasn't expecting rolling out the red carpet and certainly wasn't expecting anything for free for the birthday, but I was expecting *some* level of hospitality, especially when I made it explicitly clear we were celebrating. My partner does not treat himself to ANYTHING nice and it was a milestone birthday. I wanted to make it unforgettable. We loved our food and again, didn't have a *bad* experience, but I chose to dine out to make him feel as special and well taken care of as he makes me feel and this just didn't hit the mark.
