This past Sunday 5/11, I was very disappointed. Ox tails was on the board, but not on this day's menu. They ran out of cornbread. it was 3:00 and they don't close until 6:00. Also why is the cornbread extra when it should come with the meal. The pieces are small, but they still want $1.50 for it. I couldn't even eat the meatloaf, because it was too hot, spicy. Whew! My Sunday was top tier because I got to try this place. The wait was long but the portions, service and flavor was worth it. We tried so many things and I have to say that the oxtails, smothered pork chop, banana pudding and sweet potato cheesecake were our faves. The mac and cheese, wings, greens, mashed potatoes, black eyed peas were good. They weren't bad by any means but definitely added some seasoning and hot sauce for preference. Oh, and the strawberry soda was crisp too. My sister wasnt too enthused about the meatloaf. My daughter said the cornbread was just okay, yams too. Service was phenomenal. Every single person we spoke to was kind and very helpful. Ambiance was great, gospel music in the background. I just got back home from a visit at lunch time on a Saturday to a good place to get some like home cooked food. First let me praise the entire service staff. At the counter and in the dining room. They take good care of the customers. They are patient, friendly and perfectly attentive. Couldn't ask for more. The food I had was real good. I got a baked chicken plate with cabbage, mac n cheese and cornbread. Everything was really good. Chicken was well seasoned and plenty tender. Cabbage was seasoned well and not over or under cooked. Just right. Mac and cheese was real tasty. They scooped my portion out of a corner so I ended up with a little more of that baked goodness on the top and edges. If I had one thing to give a little critique on it'd be the cornbread. It was dry. That's often the case wherever you go. The only places that seem to beat this are those who wrap the pieces in plastic wrap. That said, I dipped my cornbread in the juice off my cabbage and it was just fine. Nice crum and just a little sweet. This was worth the drive up from Valley Park on a Sat for lunch for sure. They'll see me again no question. read more

My boyfriend just bought me food from here , I love to support black business but to be a real supporter I have to be honest in order for y'all to do better. I don't know if there are elder people with blood pressure issues that comes to this restaurant but there was absolutely no seasonings on my chicken wings nor macaroni, and my cornbread was burnt the greens were the only thing that were good . This is my Second time trying them and again I'm Disappointed. The food and service was excellent. I received fast freshly cooked food. The staff was friendly and greeted you upon arrival. The restaurant was spacious and plenty of room for social distancing. There was no long line or wait like some cafeteria style restaurants. When you are dining here in you order at the cash register, then they bring your food and drinks to you. The location is great, it's right off the highway (I-170) Airport rd and you can can easily hop back on. It has a Southern feel to this restaurant, like Atlanta or South Carolina feel. It's pretty good down-home cooking. The spit wasn't crowded at all and parking is free and ample. I got the fried pork chops, cabbage, and Mac. I passed on dessert or any bread. Everything was delicious. They give you a lot for your money. The cabbage were very well seasoned and the pork chop was crisp and delicious. That alone made me want to order one of everything... The first time I visited, I made the mistake of not ordering the famous friend chicken. Instead, I opted for the shrimp po boy with a side of mac and cheese. What I ended up with was a hot dog bun with a handful of tiny battered shrimp dumped on top. Unseasoned. With no condiments. Maybe some shredded lettuce. Visually, my plate looked like a hot mess. I ended up just eating it with a fork and dipped the shrimp in some hot sauce on the side. Incredibly disappointing. The mac and cheese were also underwhelming. Although creamy, it was bland. I figured my mistake was that I didn't order the fried chicken, so I went back to see what all the fuss was about. I still don't get it. Sure, they're crispy but the meat was also a little dry and too greasy for my liking. Fries were crisp but unseasoned as well. Went for lunch for the first time. They have a decent sized lot in a strip mall. It was getting full but there was space. The restaurant is roomy yet cozy. It was clean and bright. I liked how they had several tvs. There's a cafeteria line where you can select your meal. You can also order off menu at the counter. There were plenty of dessert options too. I got the ol Henry widowmaker which had a huge burger that was very well seasoned. Plenty of lettuce, tomato, onions, and a slice of cheese. There was also bacon!!! All this was put on the burger and the veggies were very fresh. The burger was on a glazed donut that brought in the sweet and salty factor. The burger was tasty and I would get it again. I wasn't sure if the donut was grilled or not, but it would be nice if it was. The meal came with a side. I got the sweet potatoes and they were definitely extra sweet with the juice, but it was good. They bring you the drink and utensils. I saw the banana pudding with vanilla wafers but didn't get it. I should've but am attempting to eat a little healthier. Next time no donut and pudding instead. Some had cornbread muffins and that looked really tasty too. Alright I've been twice now and both times I was pleased. I actually thought about it all week from the first visit til the second! Meat: the baked chicken and turkey fall off the bones. No knife needed! That's my kinda meat. When you order the smothered pork chops you get two which is good because pork chops are thin so one is just a tease. Last time they were cooked well but today they were a bit tough. Still very tasty though. Sides: the Mac and cheese is great. The green beans tasted better last week than today. A little too buttery today and better seasoning last time. They were still good but just not as good. The greens had a bit of a spicy kick to them. The seasoning is on point for them though. And they serve real dressing. Not stuffing. There is a difference. I'm in love with their cornbread. It's sweet like jiffy and it went well with my yams. Yes I mix the two. I will never set a foot in this restaurant again unless it is to save a life or the property. I called today to ask what was on the menu and was told that meat and 2 sides would be $18.50. I also told Hamburger and Fries would be $14.00. I asked if they Fish and she exlpained that the had catfish fillet and jack salmon. When i arrived the young lady server stated that the hamburgers were made to order, so i asked to wait to get my other plates after the hamburgers were ready so the plates wouldn't be cold. 2 young men walk in and the server tell them she need 2 hamburgers and fries. The young men say No Hamburgers because we don't have any buns. Okay no problem i make a phone call back to work to inform my coworker's that the can't make the hamburgers and fries. So the chose catfish fillet dinner instead. I asked for fries with his catfish and i was told No we don't have fries, so the chose two sides from the steamtable. I ordered 6 dinners only to find out at check out that Fish is not considered a meat and fish dinners were $25.00. I should have walked out but i had plased the order,I was in uniform so i just asked why. The server said its on the wall that the catfish dinner is $25.00. I turned to look and nothing posted or written in the daily board showed a price for fish and i asked show me. Of course she could not because it wasn't posted like she said. I placed the order that included 5 fish dinners. However they only had fish for 4 dinners. I asked how long before more come out, i was told 10 minutes. The cook comes from the back and say TJE FISH IS FROZEN SO IT WILL BE 1/2 hour before more fish come out. I said 30 minutes? The server say it should only be 20 min. I said ok i will take my coworker's their meals 6 meals and come back to get the last catfish fillet dinner (my dinner) and server says ok. She totalled me out at approximately $130.00. After i pay i asked if she could hold me a fishe dinner and i would be back in 20 minutes. The server Tells Me NO SHE COULD NOT HOLD ME A DINNER. I a public servant in uniform ask can i speak wit a manager. Server says No she is not in. This will be last time that i would ever buy anything from this place. And after all this the food according to my coworker's was horrible. I will follow up with the Management tommorow. read more

I stopped by Ol' Henry on 11/14/19 for a tripe sandwich, and I was not disappointed. The staff were welcoming and friendly, and the wait time was short. I'm used to tripe sandwiches being coated with a crispy, flaky batter, and this one had a different type of coating, but it was tasty nonetheless. Went to try this place out since my friend was always talking about the food. My first experience was not so great. Everything looked good, but when I bit into the fried chicken, it was extremely SALTY! I sort of reminded you of someone that seasoned the chicken, but forgot that they seasoned it and did it again. I had the sweet potatoes and Mac and cheese and it was good. The cornbread was very dry. Called up to the restaurant to tell the manager about the chicken and his response was, nobody else has complained and said it was salty. Not very professional but ok. I was looking to feed my parents for taking me to the airport. We stumbled onto Ol'Henry when we stopped at a gas station on our way to another restaurant and decided to give it a go. I am so glad we did! First, we went on Sunday, so their menu is limited because as staff said, "Sunday's our crowd gets blown up." We were there early, so we missed the church crowd, but someone else who was a regular came in and said, "Great I got here before you are too crowded." The food smelled amazing! It reminded me of grandma's house when she was making dinner. The Sunday menu is $14.xx per person for 1 meat and 2 sides, but the portions are generous and it includes the drink. Now the staff...they were the friendliest, most helpful group there is. So much so, I tipped 20% at the register and left another 20% tip at the table. They walked us through their menu, kept our drinks full, and when they found out we were first timers, told us some of the history of their restaurant. I will go there every time I am back in St. Louis. This is truly a gem. read more

From the minute I walked I the door I was greeted with impeccable service. The food displayed was explained to me, they even offered me a sample of the sides if needed. Well, I tried. . .I really really did. This spot is close to where I work. They accept call in orders and in the past, had been reliable on the food being ready when I called. However, on the last THREE occasions, when I called the order in, arrived within 20 min as suggested, only to find out that no one had entered the order in their system and my food was not ready. When a person only has a limited amount of time to spend on lunch (including pickup and consuming), they don't want to be disappointed to arrive and nothing has been prepared. EACH time this has happened, when I arrive at the counter to pick up an order that should have been ready, the person at the counter doesn't even acknowledge that there is an issue that they dropped the ball. The last time, when I got the same blank stare when my order was 'not found' . . I said "please don't tell me the order didn't get placed". She responded. . ."I didn't take the call". Is that really what a person wants to hear? No apologies. . .no remorse. . .just pass it off. . like 'it's not my fault'. I won't be returning for lunch. I cannot afford their ineptness on basic customer service. In all fairness, the Turkey Club improved tremendously. On the occasions that they were able to succeed at a call-in/pick-up transaction, the sandwich was prepared well, included ample amounts of meet and garnish. Fries were crispy, fresh and hot. Didn't have but 1 piece of chicken but did say if I was willing to wait they had some coming out soon..cool. At this point i take the money out to pay for it and was ignored. Somebody's child (petite girl with long cornrows straight back) thought it was more important to talk to the cook about the $1 she gave him last week and why she wanted a $1 this week, instead of taking my money. Now mind you this went on for quite a while to the point someone else had to say something to her. I've worked customer service and you never make a guest wait to pay especially when they have money in their hand. Now I would have let it slide if it wasn't for the chicken. Sides were very good no problem with them. But 1 piece of the chicken was that same piece that had obviously been sitting there for a couple of hours. So I had to wait to pay because I was ignored and I had to wait for food that was dried out and not chewable. So the people coming in behind me got the privilege of hot chicken, and didn't have to wait. Every other place would have given me 3 hot pieces since i had to wait. Check the pic out and judge for yourself; same order. Now I will say that the 2 pieces were good but going back, not sure...we have got to do better. read more

OL' Henry is a strong recommend from me, especially if you like soul food as I do. The restaurant is spotless, food is great and plentiful, and the service is fantastic. They really do care about you. Every time I'm there, they go out of their way to make sure I'm taken good care of. My only advice - be careful if you go for lunch. It is so good that you don't stop eating and then you want to nap afterwards :) Food is served cafeteria style. There are several main dishes to choose from each day, usually including fried chicken wings (fantastic), smoked chicken wings (wow), smothered pork chops, liver and onions (some days), ribs, pork steaks, etc. Everything I've had, I would order again. Sides are equally good. I always get the cabbage. Green beans, black eyed peas, sweet potatoes, you can't go wrong. Entrees are served with piece of corn bread. And then there is dessert. Wow.
