    The cool bartenders.

Hunny's is a nice low key wine bar in Normandy, MO. It's near UMSL. It's a nice laid back bar/restaurant for the mature crowd 35 and older or 40 and older crowd. I went on a Tuesday evening around 6pm and there was a small mature crowd. Looked like a place people went after work to grab a drink or get food to eat. I had the $5 margarita drink special, which did not disappoint. The service was exceptional and the crowd of people there were friendly and welcoming. I sat at the bar and there were plenty of people at the bar who were willing to be social and strike a conversation. There were people there playing a domino tournament and enjoying the music at the same time. I highly recommend this place if you live nearby and want to just get a drink and food without a huge wait or crowds I did not order food but it smelled and looked good. A few single people came in And ordered food.

The Trojan Alumni were having a Happy Hour event at Hunny's Cafe. I walked past the patio seating as i greeted some alumni. I walked in and saw the place was full and people were enjoying themselves. Music was playing . The energy level was high. The bar was full and people were enjoying their drinks. Former County Executive was in the building. The servers were busy and keeping up with the crowd requests. I walked into the other room. People were seated. The parking lot wasn't big enough for the event as people were constantly coming in. I later discovered that other local businesses had granted them the use of their lots. It was free food and cocktails special. People were enjoying the wings, fries, and salad.

REVIEW: Hunnys Wine Bar & Café -- Second Visit, Same Magic Hunnys Wine Bar & Café is one of those rare spots where the vibe hits you before the wine does. This was my second visit, and let me tell you--consistency is their superpower. The service is stellar in that effortless, genuine way that makes you feel like you're walking into a friend's living room, not a business. It's the perfect place to unwind solo, catch up with friends, or just sit back and let the atmosphere reset your whole spirit. Everything they serve--food, drinks, hospitality--feels like it's made and given with real love. No shortcuts, no attitude, just pure intention in every detail. From the warm welcome to the last sip, Hunnys delivers an A+ experience across the board. If you're looking for a spot that blends comfort, class, and community, this is it.

I was so pleased to have a new restaurant in our neighborhood. Full bar, TVs and a decent menu. Each day the owner offers a different theme (ex Taco Tuesday, Thursday is Tripe City; weekend brunches). We had the chicken wings (lemon pepper for me; buffalo for my SO) and fries. Fresh, flavorful and delicious. Prices are reasonable. Server was very helpful recommending menu items since it was our first visit. From the friendly interaction with the staff and patrons, it's clear this is the new neighborhood hang. There was even a friendly card game at one of the tables. I'm a regular now!

A hidden gem near the Natural Bridge roundabout. There's amble parking, heavy pours , well seasoned food, live music and great service. Been back already once since my first visit for brunch and did I mention complimentary mimosas.

When she came back around, we both got the Violet letter (mezcal, crème de violet, citrus, and lemon. Here's where things took a turn.... For two drinks and with no exaggeration, it took well over a half-hour if not longer to get them. Minute after minute passed by where we watched the other tables get their drinks and we had to wait forever and a day for ours. By the time we got ours, I wasn't even in the mood. Of course it didn't help that the kitchen was closed, so we had no food to go with it. The drink itself was smoky, so smoky that it overpowered the rest of the ingredients in the drink, although I tasted hints of violet. Overall, the experience could have been better. I'm willing to give this place another shot, but maybe at a different time when it's not so busy.

We went on a Sunday around 5 pm and there were already a couple other tables there, so I can imagine it fills up quickly at normal dinner times. I would probably make a reservation if planning to go at a typical hour. The service was excellent. Our server was attentive and really on top of things. We had the patatas bravas, which were good, and the croquetas de bacalao. The croquetas were a little runny for my taste. I usually prefer them a bit meatier, but they were still enjoyable. We also shared a cheese plate, which was a nice portion for a snack with wine. The wines we tried were very good. Overall, this feels like a great spot to stop for a couple glasses of wine and some snacks between plans. I could also see coming back and building a full meal by ordering a few different plates. I would definitely return.

Scarlet's Wine Bar -- Wuthering Heights, But With Cocktails…read more Had Emily Brontë given Catherine and Heathcliff access to Scarlet's Wine Bar, Wuthering Heights might have been a significantly happier book. Forget wandering the moors crying out for your tortured lover. Get yourself to the patio, order a cocktail, and pull yourself together. Scarlet's is a hidden gem with just the right amount of romance and charm. It's perfect for a light lunch, a romantic dinner, or an afternoon spent dramatically staring into the distance while wondering why Heathcliff hasn't texted back. Start with the cocktails, which arrive mixed to perfection in beautiful, classic glassware. These are not drinks served in some unfortunate tumbler. These are the sort of glasses Catherine Earnshaw would have dramatically clutched while declaring, "I am Heathcliff!" before ordering another round. Then comes the food. The watermelon salad is out of this world--fresh, bright, and absolutely delicious. Frankly, there would have been considerably less misery at Thrushcross Grange had someone simply served everyone a proper salad. Follow it with the pear and prosciutto pizza. Sweet pear, salty prosciutto, crispy crust--layers of flavor almost as complicated as Catherine and Heathcliff's relationship, but with a much more satisfying ending. And then... The blueberry cheesecake. Light. Fluffy. Dreamy. As soft as the clouds drifting lazily above Scarlet's patio--and considerably less ominous than the clouds hanging over the Yorkshire moors. The staff is fantastic: warm, friendly, attentive, and thankfully no one appears to be harboring a decades-long revenge plot against another family. But the real star may be the patio. Sit outside. Order another cocktail. Let lunch stretch shamelessly into the afternoon. Watch the clouds roll by. Discuss lost loves. Curse the cruel hand of fate. Or just order another piece of cheesecake. Scarlet's Wine Bar is romantic, charming, delicious, and wonderfully relaxed. So forget Wuthering Heights. For one glorious afternoon, make it Wuthering Delights. Heathcliff! Heathcliff! ...I'll be on the patio.

I was disappointed, if not surprised, to see that this wasn't an anachronistically sexist '00s-era…read moretheme restaurant à la Hooters or Tilted Kilt. Otherwise, I have no notes. This place makes a good cheeseburger. Well, maybe a few notes. I figured I'd get either a beer or a milkshake with my burger. I didn't see any milkshakes on the menu, so that made my decision to drink easy enough. Not that I needed one. I did see a number of ridiculous-sounding desserts, including something called a bacon cookie. But technically I'm training for a marathon, the fact that I'm out here drinking beer and eating ginormous cheeseburgers notwithstanding. Also, it cost like $10. I'll never truly recover from just what I paid for my burger and fries. But trust that I will be back, if only to see what some of these things even are. I might try the entire menu before it's all said and done with. We can only hope that this place doesn't suffer the same fate as the Pi that was in this same location. Keep Barack Obama as far away from here as possible. His successor Joe Brandon's influence is evident in the pricing. Burgers will run you upwards of $20, but they do come with free fries. Uh, thank you? Well, I guess they come with a free side. You could opt for applesauce, if you want to. I had to talk a girl I was with (but not really "with," natch) out of getting the applesauce. She's welcome. You're also given the option of getting your fries dusted with herbs and Parmesan cheese. One of the guys from my running group got that and seemed to love it, to a degree that was honestly kinda gross. They do the thing like at Five Guys where they give you a truly insane amount of fries as if they're doing you a favor, like they didn't just run your pockets. The fries are roughly the same size and shape as the fries at McDonald's, and they're nearly as good, which is the highest compliment you can pay anything. The burgers are on another level. They're ginormous steakhouse burgers, rather than the smash burgers that are all the rage everywhere else and have been since Mumford & Sons were climbing the charts and guys were walking around dressed like lumberjacks. The beef is just ground chuck, not some weird blend containing short rib, filet mignon and what have you. But it must be a good-quality ground chuck. That cow must have been fed only the finest industrial waste and words of encouragement. You're given the option of selecting your own toppings, like at a Fuddruckers, or ordering one of their bizarre-sounding specialty burgers. I like the idea of building my own burger, but picking the right toppings would have been entirely too anxiety inducing. It may have caused me to have to go on those meds they give members of Gen Z who spent too much time on TikTok. I'm already dealing with body-image issues as it is. The problem with such elaborately crafted menu items is that it's hard to know what any of them are really like without seeing and tasting them. What if I ordered the En Fuego and it came out looking like an actual pile of garbage put together by someone who, uh... doesn't have any business making sandwiches? That's kinda what it sounds like. I figured I'd go with one of the small handful of specialty burgers that had bacon on them, and I landed on the Ride the Lightning. In addition to the bacon, er, maple candied bacon, it comes with some sort of blueberry compote and a brie spread that turns all gooey due to the warmth of the burger. It looks positively inappropriate when they bring it out to you, and it's got a taste to match. No Diddy. The blueberry jam or whatever, which seems like it might be kinda weird, really sets it off. The bacon, which, on a burger, can be an afterthought, was great. Surprisingly, all of the toppings serve to accentuate the flavor of the meat, rather than cover it up. As ridiculous as some of these menu items sound, they seem to have put real thought into them. They're not out here playing games.

Our waitress was nice and helpful overall. I got a sweet tea (very sweet) with lemon I did a BOY which you mark on a sheet of paper. I'm typically a smash burger person, this one is huge to me and it was cooked really really well. Perfect medium. The extras come mostly come on the side unless they are cooked which I appreciate. I did mark spring mix and didn't get any, but really made no difference. (I did order cheese and took it off as it didn't look appealing to me) The Texas toast was the best part for me although the bottom half was soggy, I ate both top half's and saved the others for leftovers. The fries were wonderfully hot. BBQ sauce was okay. Overall a cool meal.

Clayton was busy, so street parking was hard to find. Once seated, we were greeted with friendly service and were brought water. I ordered a ginger beer with cranberry juice added to it for a refreshing mocktail. We ordered the Squeaky Cheese to start, the golden-brown cheese curds were gooey and had the perfect crunch. They were served with marinara and a serrano dill aioli. The aioli had just the right amount of spice, complementing the dill flavor. The marinara was saucy and also good. I ordered the Bacon Jam Burger with fries. The burger was juicy, sweet, and had a nice crunch. The bacon jam was subtle, but it enhanced the overall flavor. My only complaint was that the bottom bun came out a bit soggy causing the burger to lose structure as I ate it. The fries were thin and crunchy!
