I came in here with a friend for a quick dinner. We were quickly seated and provided menus. They were busy even though it is a small restaurant since they get a lot of take out. My friend and shared the following: - Crab Fried Rice: I am usually picky with fried rice because it can get dry very easily depending on how it's cooked. However, this was cooked perfectly and seasoned well. - Yellow Curry: This was good and came with a bowl of rice. How it was served gave a very homey feel. - Mango Sticky Rice: The rice is sweet and the mangos were good. However, there is a big difference in the amount of mangoes and rice they serve per plate compared to the first time we were here. Overall, the food tastes good and the service is okay. I am disappointed in the lack of consistency with plating and amount of food that is served. I would not eat in the restaurant in the future, but prefer take out. I really wish the presentation and comfort was the same as when I came in the first time. I will admit I went into this with a little hesitation. I've only seen the signs for the place driving past on the road. Once I got inside and looked over the menu a little I knew that my hesitation was a mistake. The thing that jumped out to me was the street style pad kra pow with minced chicken and a thai fried egg (on the menu it's called something like "authentic spicy basil"). I love this dish, and make it at home fairly often, but I almost never see it on a menu in Reno. I ordered it with a spice level of 5/5 and it was just right for me, but I have a pretty high spice tolerance. The dish was a heaping pile of meat in delicious stir fry sauce, with just the right amount of vinegar and sweetness to backup the spice of the chilies. The fried egg was more like a good American fried egg than the amazing Thai street eggs I've had, but getting any fried egg is a great with this dish. My only real complaint about the dish is that the green beans were very small, and I like my pad kra pow with a little more substantial veggie crunch. The place seemed busy, but it was a Saturday night. Despite that my food came out fairly quickly. It's a little on the pricey side, but I feel like I'm saying that a lot lately. But right around $20 for a well executed dish isn't unreasonable. I can't wait to go back and try some of my other favorite Thai dishes like green curry and see if the quality lines up with the kra pow. I'm in the Reno area for work next week and I arrived a little early to spend some time with a friend that lives locally. He wanted to take me to his fave Thai restaurant in Reno. It's a Sunday and Yu De Thai actually opens where most Thai places seemed like they close on Sunday. They open at NOON on the weekends I guess. Closed on Tuesdays, seems like a weird day to close, but I do notice a lot of other restaurants close on Tuesday as well for some reason. We get there and there's already other tables of diners there. The inside is light and clean, not all super Thai decorated like other Thai places. There good light for food pics! It's kinda weird, there's Dean Martin music playing! My date already had in mind what to order. I browsed the menu, but left it up to him to order. We started with these spring rolls, they call them Salad rolls though. It was beautifully presented and came with a peanut and a sweet dipping sauces. This was a very good starting dish, I liked it. Next was a dish he said he was excited to get and no one else has anything like it. It's called Zaap Wings, deep fried huge wings covered in a Thai BBQ sauce. It's from Northern Thailand I'm told. Holy moly, what a sight when they came out, the wings are stretched straight with the drumette paddle and tip all straight. It came with a knife to cut it up. The server was even thoughtful enough to bring a roll of paper towels, cause we sure needed them. Just dig in caveman style! OMG, were these tasty! Then we got a dish called Prik Kling or something liker that. I have had this dish before at a place in SoCal and in Vegas, but this version with chicken was the best I ever had, it's all in the sauce they make it with. The chicken was cooked tender and not over cooked and a pile of basil on top. I love basil! To top our lunch off, we had house made Thai tea ice cream along with house made coconut ice cream. Wow, this was a super nice dessert to share. The Thai tea ice cream was more light and not dense creamy like gelato, more refreshing like that. This was the perfect spot for a Thai food craving, especially if you want a sit down meal but on the quicker side. It's kind of small inside but cute, clean, and well laid out. Everyone was friendly and efficient (very fast service all around), and our server did a great job of balancing attentiveness with space for our conversation. On a random note, the playlist in the background was awesome and the volume level was not intrusive or too loud. Food wise, the spice levels were much better (spicier) than some other Thai restaurants in town who won't really go beyond the average white person's tolerance, so the heat at Yu De Thai was refreshing (p.s. to fellow white people: don't order spicy food and then complain when it is in fact, spicy!). Ordered from here on door dash before so I wanted my husband and I to try it out in person. This place is super cute and small. It was a very relaxing experience so if you're having a rough day or need to go somewhere to unwind I would suggest this place. The music and ambiance is very soothing which I know may seem weird but it's true! My husband got the crispy noodle pad Thai and I for the regular pad Thai. We got level 2 spice and for me, it was a bit too spicy. I can't imagine how hot level 5 is! Overall, I would definitely recommend give one this place a try. So funny! Silver hair gentleman walked up and offered us suggestions since it was our first time. Didn't realize he was the owner and our server! Cute little place seemed popular but we still got in at 5:30 on a Saturday. We had chicken satay, it was really good but the shrimp special (zig zag) appetizer was top notch. Tom kha soup was good but a little small on the portion for four. Owner talked us in to their "crunchy" pad Thai. Great flavor but missed the traditional rice noodles. Been back a few times since my last review and now again for lunch with friends. Food and service was great again. The three of us ordered off of the lunch menu specials and each chose pad Thai with our own selection of proteins. My tofu and veggies Pad Thai was wonderful and delicious. Just the right tang and it was not too sweet (my preference). My friends enjoyed theirs too. The lunch specials (fairly priced too!) are served with a small portion of soup and a salad. Perfect for light eaters, but may not be for a hungrier person. Nice place to meet up because you can hear one another during conversations and the dining room is pleasant and comfortable. I finally made it into Yu De Thai, and I'm so glad I did. I ordered the Chicken Penang Curry, level 3 spice... just enough heat for this girl without going overboard. The flavor, the texture, the care in the dish--you can really taste the love in their cooking. I even told the owner it made me feel like I was back in Thailand. It was nostalgic, comforting, and so full of depth. The restaurant is run by the sweetest couple who truly make you feel welcome. And the price? Great value for the quality and portions. This place is a gem, and I'm already planning my next visit (and bringing family and friends with me). If you're looking for real Thai food in Reno, Yu De Thai is it. This is the place I get my thai food fix in town! Yu De Thai is a local owned small restaurant that serves delicious Thai food. I find myself craving their pad thai from time to time. And their curries are delicious too. Their staff is attentive and you can either dine in or order to-go. There is plenty of seating inside. There's a parking lot so you don't have to worry about street parking since it's located in a shopping plaza. My go-to order includes the papaya salad and chicken pad thai. I will warn you their food is pretty spicy. My sister and I ordered a level 2 spice on their pad thai and it was way too spicy for us (and we thought we could handle spicy really well), it was too spicy to the point that we couldn't finish it although it was very delicious. I still would come back to get their food but I would probably go level 1 for the spice level on my dishes. read more

Mom and I visited the restaurant yesterday and it was fantastic. I rates all Thai restaurants by how excellent their Thai national dish "Beef, Chicken, or Pork basil". The dish was so good, and authentic. It is rare to see the restaurant made this simple dish. Great job! We had their famous crispy fried chicken with tamarind sauce, papaya salad and phad thai and all three were delicious. This is my first visit. I loved the Chicken Pad Thai mild. It was nice and saucy. My friend ordered his standard Pineapple Curry mild. My Pad Thai was totally not spicy at all... the mild curry was a tad spicy. I do not like spicy but I still thought the curry was delicious. And it was not too spicy for a non spicy eater. Server answered my question about dark fried rice. It has a darker soy sauce in it. Sounded good so I tried it. Very good pork fried rice. You have your choice of chicken, beef or pork. Another menu item is crab fried rice, may try that next time. My wife had pumpkin curry. Yep you read that correctly, pumpkin. Got the most mild version and it was perfect. Top notch Thai food in a cozy space with a hole-in-the-wall vibe. My biggest gripe with most Thai restaurants in town is that the food is typical swimming in salt and grease. Not so with the dishes at Yu De Thai. Been here twice and the food has been absolutely amazing both times. Unlike some Asian restaurants that are blatantly ripping you off by skimping on the ingredients (looking at you, Chi), you get great value for what you pay for here. When you order salmon, they give you a sizable filet. The noodles dishes are also loaded with tons of veggies and whatever protein you order. The owner/host was a very nice person. He told my brother and I a few jokes. This is a very casual restaurant which is a comfortable place to dine. The service is prompt and made to order. It is a small mom and pop restaurant. The owner and his wife are on premise. It is clean and the atmosphere is nice. Many times the owner pulls up a chair and takes your order and talks with you a bit, and often shares a good joke or two. Today we ordered Thai Tea. I had Panang Curry .... it was a ample serving of Carrots, cabbage , broccoli , tender chicken , all in a creamy peanut sauce that was to die for and a side of white rice. My husband had Pad Tai and it was loaded with tons of delicious ingredients and Shrimp. We were both happy campers when we were done with our meals. I could argue that this spot is the best Thai food in town! We moved to Sparks and got nervous we wouldn't find a place to fill the void of midtown Thai food, but truthfully, I prefer Yu De Thai now. Their curry is thick and delicious, their Pad Thai is great, and I crave their Tom Ka. The employees are always kind and pick up/ take out is easy! I just tried a new dish offered here at Yu De Thai that's an "off menu" special. You have to actually ask for it. It's called Khao Soi, pronounced (cow soy). It's a hard dish to find in the Reno area, there was one other Thai place I tried it at and it was not good. But this version is off the charts good. It's a curry bades sauce over egg noodles and your choice of meat as well as all kinds of veggies and othe prices. I've never tasted any Thai food like this before. Writing my second review on Yu De Thai - I give 4 stars this time for two reasons (i) their to-go dinner/lunch portions are not good enough to feed a single person and (ii) the owner does not like to give enough white rice with their curries. Please do not send white rice using that micro-size paper bag! On numerous occasions, I told this to the owner, but they ignored this suggestion. Please rethink about the size of your dinner/lunch orders. For dine-in, I guess they serve a lot but they mess up only their to-go orders. I hope the owner would correct this simple thing. Absolutely just a delightful small business I had the pleasure of visiting last week! As soon as you walk in there is almost always a kind hearted and personable older gentleman that actually sits down with you to take your order! He makes jokes and casual conversation in a way that is genuine and treats everyone like a real human being. The food was also so great, with the crispy pad thai, pad thai, and fried rice all having great flavor. The chicken was also juicy and high quality, which is something thai places sometimes struggle with. It also feels so warm and comfortable in the restaurant as well with its atmosphere and overall vibe. I would definitely eat here again and hopefully enjoy it even more!! read more

2 of the 3 dishes we tried are recommended: Green Curry and Giant ZAAP Shrimp. Especially their Giant ZAAP fried shrimp appetizer, drizzled in a tamarind sauce. The tamarind sauce was nicely seasoned to a sweet/sour/lightly spicy taste, and the shrimp were battered and fried to a nice light crispy crunch (tails were de-shelled and deveined before frying). There were 5 jumbo shrimp (cooked tail diameter was about 1 inch each). If this was all I ate for my meal, I would be satisfied. The green curry dish comes with bamboo, bell peppers, eggplant, some basil leaves, and choice of protein (chicken, beef, etc) with 5 spice levels. It also comes with a bowl of rice (jasmine or brown). My dinner guest chose a mild level of spice and even at that level, the curry was still very flavorful. The third dish which I don't recommend is their "fishcake". It was not on the regular menu but considered a chef special, on a hand-written menu near their back wall. The 5 fish patties had a very pungent fishy smell and after-taste, like it was made from frozen (not fresh) fish. It appeared to be salmon due to its pinkish color, but I've never had such fishy salmon before. So I'd skip this dish. Called to place an order for pickup gave them my name and what I wanted to order then was hung up on with no information on when it would be ready. When I arrived I was asked for my name multiple times from multiple people, it seemed very disorganized and as if they weren't sure what to do. The older man who was at the counter didn't know what was going on and was rude telling me I was looking at him like he was from another planet when they didn't seem to know what was going on in their own restaurant. The couple that own it are very nice people to speak with and the food is absolutely fantastic, never had anything I didn't enjoy.
