We love Chin Chin, mainly due to the family that runs it every day. Such sweet people and the food is always great!

Last night we went back to Chin Chin for the first time in quite a while and invited some friends to join us. We decided to order the combination family meal so everyone could try a variety of dishes. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted like old friends. Even though it had been a while since our last visit, the staff remembered us, which made us feel so welcome. I love the ambiance here. It's quaint, clean, and comfortable, with soft lighting, relaxing background music, and cozy booths that make it a perfect place to enjoy a meal and catch up with friends. We started with soup. I had the hot and sour soup, which is always my favorite, and our friends tried the flower soup, similar to egg drop soup, for the first time. They really enjoyed it! For appetizers, we shared the prawn, egg rolls, and crab Rangoon, and everything was delicious. For our main course, we enjoyed the Szechuan chicken, Hunan chicken, sesame chicken, and the vegetable plate. Every dish arrived hot, fresh, and full of flavor. The service was outstanding. Our server checked on us often, kept our water glasses full, and made sure we had everything we needed throughout the meal. We always have a wonderful experience at Chin Chin, and this visit was no exception. Great food, excellent service, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere keep us coming back. Intimate, quiet and affordable. We went for lunch and were welcomed with a plate of fried wonton strips for the table. The wife got the Chin Chin Chicken and I got the Mongolian Beef lunch specials which came with egg rolls and rice. The flavor pallet is rich and complex. Lots of smoke. Chin Chin is probably one of the most overlooked Asian food destinations. It's truly a hidden gem. It's tucked away from high traffic visibility but once you're inside you feel like you landed in another world. The dark quiet atmosphere spotted with subtle but colorful lights. I am always recognized and greeted with a friendly smile. We normally go for their amazing lunch specials but this time we were dining with friends. We landed on the family special which at $17.00 per person each are able to select an entree with rice, soup and 3 appetizers. We had the Sesame Chicken, Vegetable, Hunan Chicken and Szechuan Chicken. They were all served pipping hot and delicious. The Hot and sour is recommended The hot mustard is not tame so go easy. Drowning the protein in sauce must be a Reno thing because this is the 3rd restaurant in town that serves General Tso this way. What is most disappointing is the two lonely broccoli florets and the dry rice served on the side. Crab Rangoon was good and my daughter liked her kids chicken chow mein. This is the best Chinese, Thai, Habachi resturant around. Great prices, wonderful service and amazing food. Cozy and owner always makes you feel very welcome. I can recommend the hot and sour soup, sweet and sour prawns, mongolian beef. We always order the combination dinner comes with soup, appetizer platter or shrimp, egg rolls, crab rangoon and beef as well as an entree of your choice. It is a great deal portions are large and well always end up with enough for the next nights dinner. Their Thia and Habachi menus are delicious as well. Tried something new this time. It was the Hunan shrimp lunch special with hot n sour soup... it was delicious and new, fresh tasting and hot. Of course I do get my stand by of Massaman chicken. If you like spice they will creamy up the heat... I think I've tried "3" and it was mighty toasty!! So now I just get mild so I can actually taste and enjoy it. Service is always friendly and I swear the lady remembers me each time I come in, or at least she makes it seem that way. Place has nice seating area and is open and cozy. This was the second time I tried this restaurant since moving here from the Bay Area. Which of course automatically makes me a Chinese food snob! It's been about 4 years since the last time, I tried the food here and since I was hosting about 10 people at my home, I wanted to serve something simple and cost effective. My goto for this is Chinese food. I ordered chicken chow mein and stir fried mixed vegetables. It came in two trays and enough from probably closer to 15 people. So portions were good but the total bill was between $120-$130 about what I've come to expect here in Reno. Let's just say, I've traveled to several countries in Asia and lived most of my life in Northern CA eating quite a bit of Chinese food. This doesn't make my an expert but it would be fair to say, I am quite familiar with what is considered mainstream traditional Chinese cooking. But let's get to the food, with the caveat that I realize that everyone's preferences can vary widely when it comes to food. So my opinion is based on what one would find in Hong Kong and San Francisco. The chicken chow mein had all the correct ingredients, long noodles that were slightly thicker than say spaghetti, had the correct amount of softness without being mushy. Chicken was presented in slices and appeared to be white meat, there was some white onions thrown in there for some texture and flavor. Normally when I order chow mein, it isn't served with a brown "gravy". Not that this dish was swimming in it, but think of spaghetti with tomato sauce. Replace the red with medium dark brown and you get the picture. Now my guests who are Reno locals, thought it was great and flavorful. I would agree with the flavor part but it was much too saucy for my tastes. Would I try Chin Chin again for noodles? I'm not sure but the owner did state, they can make dishes any way I like, so perhaps I'll order off menu next time. The stir fried mixed vegetables is where I was most disappointed. Let's start with the ingredients. All were sliced in 2-3 inch pieces, which included button mushrooms, zuchinni, bamboo shoots, brocolli, carrots, and onions. This dish could have passed for a savory vegetable stew. There was a lot of gravy, so much so, that it colored all the vegetables brown, except for the carrots. The sauce had a slight "twang" to it, almost vinegar or worchester-like. Not my thing, I could not taste the individual flavors of the vegetables because of how heavy the sauce was. The brocolli was over cooked where the flowerette parts were pale. I prefer my vegetables to be just cooked, almost snappy. I would not order this dish again. No comments on the restaurant itself as both times I tried it, was for take out. So bottomline, would I try Chin Chin again? Yes but I will be very specific on how I would like my order prepared. Maybe for their lunch special. read more

A great place for reasonably priced Asian food. I never skip the Crab Rangoons they are DELICIOUS. I would consider myself a regular here. The service is always nice and reasonably fast. Lots of combinations and flavors to choose from. The place is large and never super busy, so it's great for a date night or a nice dinner away from home. We didn't feel like cooking tonight, so my sister brought us all to chin chins for a yummy dinner. It was wonderful. Service was great and efficient. Very friendly. Very clean in here. We ordered. Got our appetizer. Got our tea and our entrees. First time to order this sizzling plates and they came with the egg flower soup cup of rice And a sizzling shrimp and scallops. Tried this place for the first time. Me and my husband were just hungry and in the area and we stumbled upon this hidden GEM! The hibachi dinner specials are extremely affordable and the flavor was amazing. We had our baby with us as well and they made us feel more than welcome. Great service, great food and great prices! Came here around 4pm on a Friday and enjoyed a very tasty meal. The waitress was so kind and attentive the entire meal and the ambiance was low lights. Now for the food. Had the the Mongolian delight and hibachi chicken and shrimp. I especially loved the dressing on the salad that came with this meal. It also came with egg flour soup and grilled veggies. Seated quickly, menus in hand. Ordered water first Anna we were brought out snack chips and 2 sauces. Ordered a couple of Thai dishes and they came out tasting great. Food was pretty good overall but disappointing for my personal taste. I've never had a sugary sweet mongolian beef before and i hope i never have it again.It was spicy which is good but totally missed the mark for me, good thing we ordered for take out, I literally put it all in a pan and added soy sauce and chili garlic sauce to kill the overly sweet flavor of the dish. Also the beef was chewy, big pieces of tough meat that just needed to be cooked a bit more and reduced down to make them tender and pleasant to chew on. My wife ordered orange chicken and it was good, much better than my mongolian beef. Veggie spring rolls were excellent but i didn't get a side of spicy mustard- my fault , the mustard packets are terrible and nothing like the real deal. Hot and sour soup was pretty good. I'm a fortune palace guy, they are closed on mondays so we tried the only local option we could find and it didn't compare in my opinion. That's a first for me to cook and season take out chinese to improve taste and tenderness. I order Mongolian Beef every time i eat chinese food, so take it from a fan of the dish, sugary sweet mongolian beef is not very good, it's supposed to be savory and spicy- Soy Sauce, rice wine vinegar, fresh garlic, chili garlic sauce, little oyster sauce and a pinch of ginger and that will make a lovely savory dish. Love to try new places and anticipate loving each new experience. My first visit today trying Chin Chin restaurant. Lovely location but I was disappointed when inside. The decor seems very dated and cumbersome. I could not imagine coming here for dinner. We tried their lunch special. We had the hot and sour soup and also tried the egg drop. The soup was warm only, but served in a bowl larger than the norm and very delicious, both were enjoyed. A dish of fried won ton strips was presented with sides of mustard and sweet and sour sauce for dipping. Didn't eat it or need it. My son chose the chicken chow mein and I had the chicken with vegetables. The chow mein was normal but not exceptional. My chicken dish was not delicious. Normally this dish comes with a clear, light sauce and this was what I was expecting. The sauce it came in was dark and I found lumps of gelatinous sauce in my meal, not heated through to melt properly. I must say the decor was a real struggle for me. I found it so unappealing it detracted from everything. In all fairness, when we were there, there continued to be more people coming in and clearly many were repeat customers. I usually review after several visits but I will not be back. read more

Really good bang for the buck! Extensive menu that has all the common Chinese and Thai items. Cant speak on their hibachi as we havent tried. I have been here twice with my family and love their lunch special menu. The prices are great and the staff is always so friendly. I got the sweet and sour chicken with fried rice, egg drop soup and a spring roll. I am quite picky with fried rice so I wasn't very fond of their fried rice but everything else was very good! My lunch came with a bowl of delicious hot & sour soup. The broccoli with beef was good but a bit overly sauced; the steamed rice was perfectly soft and fluffy. As for the chow fun, it was good but also a bit overly sauced. Service was excellent: friendly and attentive. Ambiance is casual with booths and tables. I recently ordered a large meal from Chin Chin for my mother-in-law's birthday dinner. We live in Sparks, so it's close-ish to home and seemed to offer a variety of main dishes since MIL doesn't like spicy food, she's more of a sweet & sour, chow mein type of gal. Anyhoo, I ordered based on their online menu, which shows BBQ spare ribs, but apparently that's just a stock pic, those are not actually on their menu. My initial regret began when I walked into a very nearly empty dining room at 6:30pm on a Tues. My next wave of regret came when I checked out and was charged approx. $13 more (before tax & tip) than their posted prices online. Everything was packed, stapled & sealed so I wouldn't have the full depth of regret until I got home and unpacked everything. We ordered sweet & sour pork, chicken fried rice, pork chow mein, app sampler for 2, walnut shrimp, beef skewers and mongolian beef. Their online menu showed these items totaling $83. I was rang up at $96. The beef skewers were overcooked and tough. The fried shrimp were so overcooked and tough, almost burned. The 8 pieces of walnut shrimp were heavily breaded and in 1/2" of some thick mayo type sauce full of whitish pineapple pieces? and the walnuts had a rancid taste. The chicken fried rice was pale & oily. The chow mein was dark, flavorless in a pool of oil & had only a few green onion pieces, but lacked other veggies. The sweet & sour pork were microscopic pieces of overcooked pork heavily breaded, like a pork donut, and had the same pale whitish pineapple but came with a giant vat of red sauce, easily 4x the amount of sauce needed. The only dish we liked was the Mongolian beef and it's the 1 thing my MIL won't eat. Even teens didn't like the chow mein & fried rice it was so bland & greasy! And my teens usually clean up Chinese food! We discarded SO MUCH food for such a high bill. My MIL didn't spare her criticism of how disappointing this meal was, and I agree. The staff inside was pleasant, but thats the extent of the 2 stars. read more

I'm glad to write a good review for Chin Chin. My daughter and I stopped in for some hot food. We had edamame, and she ordered sizzling rice soup and potstickers. I had an old favorite, honey walnut shrimp with pineapple. Everything arrived timely and at the proper temperature. It all tasted great! Tried chin chin for the first time. Coming in, I was pretty surprised with the restaurant. It was way nicer than I was expecting. Beautiful, intimate, and cozy. The vibe was great! Service was spectacular! Quick and friendly. Our table was bussed throughout our meal, waters refilled, food came out fast and hot! Prices were amazing. Very cheap for a ton of food! Food was okay... not my favorite. I ordered the lunch special with hot and sour soup, egg roll, Rangoon, Fried rice and chicken chow mein as the entree. Soup was okay, egg roll and Rangoon were tasty. Fried rice was bland, chow mein was sooooo salty and too much sauce. I ordered another lunch special to go, and only drove10 minutes home. By the time I got home the egg roll and Rangoon were soggy. I ordered the general chicken and the texture was weird. Not super impressed with the food I ordered but I would probably give chin chins another try based on service and price. read more

We've ordered takeout primarily from this business the last 5 times we've ordered and are always met by the same woman who is just an amazing human being. We decided to sit down as we noticed they have hibachi, so we said... let's try it out and this is what our experience looked like. Hibachi: 4/5 Having ichiban and iiji 2 as the "hibachi" place... I'd say this place is only missing the show... flavor wise, wow..... left speechless with the flavor profile, the yum yum sauce, definitely a go to sauce! I would say for the price. This meal is worth more than what you pay for. 2 things I would make notice of this would be, request your steak cooked to your preference when ordering, and just ignore the fact you don't get the "hibachi" show... but enjoy the food because it's delicious! Chicken lettuce wraps: 6/5 I love lettuce wraps. They are absolutely delicious, you'll definitely need another plate for the juices that drip but wow... just impressed with these little apps because boy o boy... they were a great start to your meal! Service and ambiance 8/5 I don't think I've ever been to a better family owned restaurant. Our servers remember us from when we call, to when we pick up our order. Attention to detail is an understatement because between the 2 servers. They manage their location amazingly! Never had to ask for a refill, great conversation and follow up on how we've been, fast service, as well as just a great flow of restaurant etiquette. Ordered takeout after not having had chin chin in a very long time. 10/10 everything from the sweet lady who took my order over the phone and recommended stuff for me to the very secure way I received my takeout food (ensuring my dinner didn't end up on the floor of my car) to the delicious food I brought back home to a group of VERY hungry guys.
