Drinks were fresh, balanced, and flavorful not overpowering. Only downside was the soda, served canned and warm with a cup of ice. Water refills were quick and friendly. Oysters were super fresh and slightly sweet, the guac with mango salsa really popped, and the crab cake was simple but on point. For mains, the shrimp pasta was al dente with well-seasoned shrimp. The fried red snapper stuffed with Chino-Latino rice was the star fresh, flavorful, and easily a 10/10. The Pernilito was also delicious, with great sauce and rice. Ambiance 9/10. read more

The drinks are definitely a highlight here -- they were excellent. The best dish I had was the shrimp and chorizo appetizer. I honestly could have made an entire meal out of that alone. Unfortunately, it went downhill from there. The service was spotty and inattentive, and the ribeye was honestly just bad. We ordered it medium rare and it came out rare. It was thick enough and undercooked enough that we sent it back. Even aside from the temperature, the steak itself was disappointing. The tostones were bland, and the sauce served with it basically tasted like ground-up garlic mixed with mayonnaise. Not good. And check your bill. An 18% gratuity had already been added before we were given the opportunity to tip, which was particularly frustrating considering the level of service we received. If a gratuity is going to be automatically added, that should be made very clear. My fiancé and I were in search of a date night restaurant and came across Yukka. We love going to the Riverdale area, so we figured, why not? The place itself is lively, inviting, and spacious. I really enjoyed the music they were playing. For drinks, we had an Aperol Spritz and a Cabernet. We were very happy with both, the Aperol Spritz was made perfectly. As an appetizer, we ordered the calamari. It was delicious: perfectly crunchy with no chewiness, and the accompanying aioli was perfection. The only thing is that I thought it was supposed to come with popcorn shrimp as well, but it didn't. For my entrée, I got the ropa vieja. It was very flavorful and came in the cutest Le Creuset pot. The rice and beans complemented it perfectly. My fiancé got the fish of the day, which was definitely a wow dish he loved it. The service was lovely as well. Our waitress checked in just enough, allowing us to really enjoy ourselves without feeling rushed. Price-wise, I felt it was very reasonable. Our bill came to about $150, including tip. I would definitely return and recommend this place if you're looking for a nice dinner spot that's not too casual but not overly fancy either, perfect for celebrating a special occasion or getting together with loved ones. We went the day after a snowstorm, so the place was almost empty. There were maybe eight people at the bar having dinner and drinks. The usual bartender and waitstaff were there, and they were super attentive as always. We ordered the fish of the day fried red snapper with shrimp fried rice and their signature sauce. The chicharon was extra crispy and really good that night. The burger was big, and the patty was nice and juicy. I tried their ropa vieja for the first time, which comes with black beans, white rice and fried plantains, and you could tell whoever cooked it put real heart into it. It was excellent. Reason for the 4 stars is because they changed the menu. The appetizers that I usually get was gone and certain dishes as well. I did noticed that they added Oysters and Mussels on the menu. Went all the way from Midtown to the Bronx for a meet up with some old friends. My friends are Dominican but the place definitely had some Cuban roots as I saw Ropa Vieja and Coqueta's on the menu. I ordered the seafood paella which was incredible and full of seafood (see picture). There was so much seafood I could barely eat any of the rice. Also ordered was the chicken which was loaded up with peppers and onions and Yucca fries and some empanada appetizers were all really good. The live band was excellent and I was not disappointed at all by this place. If you happen to be near the Bronx or have a flare for some Latin food I would absolutely try this place and as an added bonus they have Pacifico beer on tap. read more

I came in here on an off day for me as I was looking for something new, but needed and wanted great comfort food that was close to my house and it wasn't a pizzeria or bbq place. I love both but really wanted something new that was amazing and boy have I found it. This food was overwhelmingly amazing. The steak was cooked perfectly and the lobster melted in my mouth. I couldn't believe I was somewhere so welcoming and their food was really Good. I was proud of myself for remembering to take pics of the food lol. Well, in New York, I asked my brother for a couple of recommendations and this was one of the spots he told me we could find live music and a pretty good meal. My friend and I went with no reservations, but we were able to find a table. As we got there, the band was setting up, but they had a DJ as well. Who was playing a mix of Latin music. This place had a great vibe for a Friday night. we started with the empanada trio, and we couldn't decide which was our favorite. They all came out hot and juicy, which was a good start to the evening. For my main I had the pork shank. It comes in a stew of garbanzo beans and with arroz con gondolas. This plate had amazing flavor and was a huge serving. I'll be honest after the empanadas my friend and I were pretty full so we ate a little mermaid and then took the rest home. But after we ate, we actually ended up staying for a few hours and just enjoying the live band and then the DJ who came on after. The drinks kept flowing and the service was great. The waitress came by multiple times to check on us and make sure that our drinks were refreshed. I'm so glad we ended up at the spot because we had a great evening. I was looking forward to eating the Penil at Yukka tonight. After being served, I noticed the size of the portion of pork was 1/2 the normal size. I asked the waitress if she could bring the manager over. We waited. No manager. After waiting a few minutes, I ate a few pieces. Even worse, the meat was dry tonight. I then asked a different waitress to ask the manager to come over. Didn't make a difference. No manager. I looked around. No manager in sight. I ate the meat and my resentment grew. I again asked the waitress (the third request) Now it is 25 minutes after we were served, and finally the manager came over. She explained that this was the only size they had when they went to buy the meat. My wife said, why didn't you tell us before we placed the order? No response, just repeating that this is what was at the market to buy, and then added that "you shouldn't have eaten it. You should have just push it away and waited for me". She never apologized, nor offered to make it up to us. She made it sound that it was my fault. I would have given my review 1 star, however, my wife's salad with shrimp was excellent. read more

New place in Riverdale, at least new to us. Modern clean design with nice long bar. We had a late lunch there yesterday, Saturday afternoon. We had guacamole and baccala spread for appetizers followed by a huge helping of baked salmon with a sweet glacé for me and a baked chicken with mushroom sauce for Julie. All four of our choices were over the top scrumptious. My guacamole was served with a basket of banana chips and Julie's served with several s ices of warm fresh baked bread. My salmon came with a large side of wonderfully seasoned buttered rice. Julie's chicken was served with nice creamy mashed potato. Our servers and all the staff were efficient and friendly. Definitely a local hang out spot. Once the live music started it got way too loud for us, so we moved outside, but the atmosphere inside was fun and lively and people were enjoying themselves. I got the Ropa Vieja. It itself was really good, but the rice and beans were just ok (the beans tasted like there was a bit too much booze in them, verging on lighter fluid) and rice was somehow tasteless. The maduros were a bit better. The water also tasted a bit like wine, which threw me off. I tried some chicken as well, which I also thought tasted quite yummy. The truffle butter is definitely overwhelming, though, not a dredge situation. The guava tres leche was bad -- I would be surprised it was made in house. It has a thin layer of guava, and the whole thing was weirdly/unpleasantly grainy. It wasn't too sweet though, which is easy to do a lot of the time. Service was slow, but it was slightly busy and the atmosphere is more sit and relax rather than eat and leave, so it was a bit understandable (we must have been there for 2 hours though). Something that wasn't mentioned but I noticed was that there is an additional $2.75 charge for using a credit card, and they automatically include gratuity ($12 for us 2, not sure if it's by percent). That's something to watch out for. In my opinion, stuff was slightly more expensive that it was worth. If I could give it a range, 3.5-4, but worth visiting if you're in the mood for hispanic food in Riverdale or a nice nightlife hangout. read more

This place was disappointing. The menu looked great but food didn't hit the spot like I hoped. First, the pork belly was cooked well but needed a little salt. The dipping sauces (especially the garlic aioli) were delicious but there's no substitute for a properly salted piece of meat. The shrimp empanadas were delicious but the chicken empanadas were terrible. I don't know if the chicken was canned or old but it was so dry the dipping sauces provided no relief. However, overall, the appetizers were plentiful and enjoyable. The dinner salad I ordered as an entree could have been better. Actually, the salad they served me was not what was printed on the menu. I was expecting grilled chicken, Mesclun greens, quinoa, onions, cherry tomatoes, potato, hard-boiled egg, and avocado tossed with a Spanish sherry honey and mustard vinaigrette. What I got had no quinoa, potato, or hard-boiled eggs but, for some reason, had a bunch of strawberries instead. I wouldn't mind the switch-up if it were good but it wasn't. The chicken was grilled but definitely for a little too long. Everything else was super bland. I've never put salt on a salad but this one could have used a shake or two. My expectations for salads is pretty low. To not meet it really takes effort and this place successfully did it. Maybe this was an off night. I'd like to believe a return trip would be better but I doubt seriously if that will ever happen. There are so many other spots on the same block that look promising. The octopus offered a unique experience as it is served in a flaming pan that continued flaming for quite a while. It was so tender and delicious that I would go back just for that. I went with a group of friends but we were all picking up out own tabs. So it would make sense that the waitress would come to each of us to take our orders, wouldn't it? Well the lady only came to us when we first got there to take our drink orders then came to take our meal orders, then never came back to see if we needed anything else. We had to tell the person in our group who made the arrangements what we wanted. I wanted a drink after dinner and I left without it because I couldn't get her attention. We had to tell the bus boys what we wanted in order to get something. Ridiculous! Went to Yukka -Riverdale bx Ny this past Saturday we we're are party of 15 (note place is small inside but we were accommodated). My husband and I started with grilled pulpo delicious, guacamole was also very good. We didn't have drinks because we had previously had some in a friends home figured we wait until we eat some food-but during our stay our server did not come by to ask if we needed anything else or if drinks were now wanted. Moving on to meal I ordered the pernilito and rice with gandules-pernilito tasted lemony and rice was over season so not so happy with that. My hubby had his favorite ropa viaja not saucy like he has had before so not to his liking. The ambiance was nice good music and the guys that we're taking our plates after eating were very nice and attentive so kudos to them. As to our server no Bueno she needs to be more attentive to a party of 15 -you think! Oh I did get to order sneak in a drink order too sweet just not for me. Ok so upfront this is one of my favorite and go to spots in the Bronx. There was a time that I was at Yukka most Friday's because I actually really like the food, the drinks, and the live music that they get to perform at the spot. It's a very chill vibe where you can bring your friends, come on a date, heck I even brought my mom and her friends for her birthday. It's a bit pricey depending on what you get but overall it remains a go to spot. The ropa vieja is absolutely legit, just like mom used to make. I had this place bookmarked for some time... now that COVID restrictions are lifted, we finally were able to get Yukka off our list. Yukka was NOT what I expected! The space is overly cramped... yes, cramped to the max. The hostess is rude. The food takes forever to come out and it is under cooked... the only reason Yukka is getting three stars is because of the drinks and the live music. This place is not intimate and everyone is nearly sitting on top of each other. I literally was able hear the conversations of both parties next to me (to my left and my right). My boyfriend got up to use the restroom and almost knocked something off a table as he walked... yes, no room for people to move comfortably. Oh, and when I was getting up, I was on the booth side, and was trying to slide to get up, the hostess tried to scold me, and told me that I could not use the table next to me... like girl, I have not put anything or touched the table next to me all night. Use your brain... clearly I was trying to get up. Anyways, we started with ropa vieja and chicken empanadas and chicharrones... both were good! Chicken empanadas were the better of the two. We then ordered our main dishes. We ordered lamb chops with moro and churrasco with mashed potatoes. We had to inquire about our food after about 45 minutes... our food definitely got rushed after this. We got our main plates about an hour after initially ordering, or ten minutes after we inquired about our food-- DISASTER! The lamb chops were raw... pink and chewy. The churrasco was nothing special. The food had my stomach aching... and I rarely ate any of it. The drinks were really our favorite thing we ordered... coconut margaritas, chinola mojito, and red sangria-- none of these three drinks disappointed! The live music was nice!
