Never a bad experience at Santa Fe Grill. The service is always excellent, super attentive and friendly. I always get the shrimp quesadilla because it's my favorite, with a side of rice and beans. I came here for brunch. It was an interesting experience. I ordered three tacos which were fish pork and steak. The tacos were good and the service was good. The thing which made me a bit concerned was my friend ordered coffee and her cup was dirty it had lipstick on it. That made me a bit cautious about the food. The service was good the waitress was very nice and attentive. Once my friend told her about the cup she changed it. I also ordered a tamarind juice which was good as well. I usually have nothing bad to say about the services provided by this restaurant but the last time my family and I were there we had the worst experience. It took them 45 minutes to serve us our food and when we asked if we could speak to a manager there was no manger in sight and they didn't even comp a meal. I went here for a pretty early dinner after a walk in nearby Van Cortlandt Park a good while ago with a large group. The service was fine but it was rather odd that the place was rather empty but there was someone blasting music mostly from YouTube videos for whatever reason. It was loud enough that we asked for it to be lowered which it was until some others showed up which is fine. To drink I had a plain margarita which was very good. The price is reasonable and the drink both had a good amount of alcohol and was pretty well balanced. Not much to complain. The only dish I ordered was the Enchiladas Tres Amigos consisting of 3 enchiladas (ground beef, chicken and cheese,) each topped with different sauce (red green and mole sauce) along with melted cheese and served with guacamole, rice, beans, and pico de gallo. The red/rojo sauce was my preference of the bunch which partially makes sense as this place has a good amount of Tex-Mex food. The green sauce was pretty standard though perhaps a bit too sour. The mole was standard and I presume it came from one of the many brands. Couldn't really tell the difference between the beef and chicken though the cheese one was my least favorite of the bunch. The food in short was okay. The portion size was good for the price (I think it was something between $18 and $20) though the flavor was a bit lacking. Santa Fe is pretty okay. It's fine for a Mexican place in Riverdale. There's not that many good food options in the area. It gets to be slow. This is even when no other customers are there. I had the regular size margarita. It's about $8 and is fairly big. This definitely had alcohol in it. Frozen version was very good. This was thirst quenching after walking around Van Cortlandt Park. I had the vegetable burrito. This is about $10 and is massive. I found it okay but nothing was incredible. The margarita was okay but still average. I came here a few times with hubbs for happy hour specials. We originally wanted to try them out during Cinco de Mayo but they were packed to the brim and now I know it was for good reason. We've only sat at the bar when we've visited. The bartenders are attentive and you can put in and receive your order quickly. Also, no wait for your next drink, so... We've had some food items and usually order their fun and colourful and HUGE margherita drinks. They have one (I forget the name) that comes with a Mexican lollipop in it that is soooo good. I love it and the lillipop has an interesting flavour that's making me salivate just writing about it. They're located five minutes from my home and across from Van Cortlandt Park so it's easy to just stop by on any given day. (Disappointing since it was a large group of us). So I came here on Cinco de Mayo so that should be taken into account when reading this. We got there pretty early around 5 right before things got a bit hectic. I was sitting for maybe 15 minutes before anyone came by to greet me or see if I needed any help. I got tacos which were tasty. My sister got chicken nachos which she felt could have been better. When the food came we still hadn't gotten utensils and we never got water for the table. Our server switched after we got our food and she was a lot more helpful. But my sisters last margarita took a while to get to the table and in the middle of her drinking it we were told they needed the table. Okay, so can we talk about how I have been craving burritos from an authentic Mexican restaurant for about two weeks! I couldn't take it anymore so my babe and I went out in search for what my tummy has been longing for! We were about to go into the city but I said, "there HAS to be some good Mexican cuisine in my neighborhood?!" And sure enough .. there was! Behold! Santa Fe Bar & Grill! We walked in for lunch early afternoon on a Saturday and was seated right away (it was kind of empty but I'm sure it has their regulars during happy hours and at night). They gave us complimentary chips and salsa (the salsa was delicious) and we ordered a side of guacamole to start (also delicious). I ordered chicken soup and a chicken chimichanga with a pomegranate margarita and he ordered chicken flautas, a chicken quesadilla, and a piña colada (hold the rum, add the henny). Okay this place wasn't that bad.... however, my fellow yelpers you know I'm going to be honest so you guys can choose wisely!! I went on a date here (last minute picking due to Covid) Last call for the kitchen was at 10pm &last call for alcohol was like around 1015ish... We finally sit and order our drinks; the female at the counter while we waited told us that we had a good time to order atleast (2) drinks. When we sit, the waiter (a younger boy w/ glasses) brings our food and drinks. After 1 min, he returns and says you guys want anything else (drinks) b/c we are closing. I asked for another Margarita. My date said no he was okay. 3 minutes later, my date decides hey let me order another drink. The waiter says "No Too Late I Don't Want Other Customers Complaining" ( Okay at this point I don't even have my drink- YET!!! Cool.. 1/2 later I get my drink, so I tell the waiter.. You could of brought both drinks out if that was the case. Fast forward, we are eating and literally 2 minutes later ( a female waiter) comes up to the table; while we are conversing and she says "Hey you guys have to wrap it up!" Wait what?!?! I know NYC after Covid has a rule by 11pm.. all businesses have to be wrapping up w/ outdoor seating.. however why sit us at almost 10pm then rush us out just to get in a few bucks before you close!!!?? The food is delicious here, and perhaps the server was just having an off night - but I'd say overall come here for the food not the service. Normally the guacamole is decent - they make it tableside. But the other night it was... Off. I'm not sure how, it didn't taste bad but it didn't taste like guacamole. Now i have some quirks when I go out to eat.. and this is Santa Fe's List 1-Be Organized!! it annoys me when i have 4 different waiters.. why must i keep repeating myself.. orders get confused, u dont know who you are leaving a tip for.. c'mon i understand its family owned but JEEZ get it together!! 2- Give us Space! let your patrons take time to look @ your menu and shop around.. when we are ready to order or ask a question we WILL call you! I understand you are friendly but dont be overbearing! 3- Ugh.. I tried a Pina Colada and it SUCKED!!! it was extremely watery no taste!! i was surprised being that i had a melon margarita and it was REAL GOOD!
