    Tacos
    Giselle G.

I came here for brunch. It was an interesting experience. I ordered three tacos which were fish pork and steak. The tacos were good and the service was good. The thing which made me a bit concerned was my friend ordered coffee and her cup was dirty it had lipstick on it. That made me a bit cautious about the food. The service was good the waitress was very nice and attentive. Once my friend told her about the cup she changed it. I also ordered a tamarind juice which was good as well. I am not sure if I would be back, the food was good but not memorable. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Overall it is a homey place and you should try it for yourself.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

    Margarita. Excellent

I went here for a pretty early dinner after a walk in nearby Van Cortlandt Park a good while ago with a large group. The service was fine but it was rather odd that the place was rather empty but there was someone blasting music mostly from YouTube videos for whatever reason. It was loud enough that we asked for it to be lowered which it was until some others showed up which is fine. To drink I had a plain margarita which was very good. The price is reasonable and the drink both had a good amount of alcohol and was pretty well balanced. Not much to complain. The only dish I ordered was the Enchiladas Tres Amigos consisting of 3 enchiladas (ground beef, chicken and cheese,) each topped with different sauce (red green and mole sauce) along with melted cheese and served with guacamole, rice, beans, and pico de gallo. The red/rojo sauce was my preference of the bunch which partially makes sense as this place has a good amount of Tex-Mex food. The green sauce was pretty standard though perhaps a bit too sour. The mole was standard and I presume it came from one of the many brands. Couldn't really tell the difference between the beef and chicken though the cheese one was my least favorite of the bunch. The food in short was okay. The portion size was good for the price (I think it was something between $18 and $20) though the flavor was a bit lacking. If the food was as good as the margarita, I would probably be leaving this place 4 but I found my dish to be just alright. Tres punto cinco estrellas

Wonderful food & friendly staff. I recommend Carne Adobada. If you're into Margaritas they have quite a selection. The fried tortillas are crispy & not greasy.

    Calamari

I ordered crispy calamari last week and plate was missing half of what usually brings. I also asked for green sauce and there was no green sauce in the bag. The tacos shells were not fresh. I will not ordered again.

This is one of my favorite Mexican restaurants. All the food is very authentic. The seafood soup was the best. And the prices are great.

Santa Fe is pretty okay. It's fine for a Mexican place in Riverdale. There's not that many good food options in the area. It gets to be slow. This is even when no other customers are there. I had the regular size margarita. It's about $8 and is fairly big. This definitely had alcohol in it. Frozen version was very good. This was thirst quenching after walking around Van Cortlandt Park. I had the vegetable burrito. This is about $10 and is massive. I found it okay but nothing was incredible. The margarita was okay but still average. The burrito was big but tasted like many others.

I don't know what took us so long to come here. We always pass by and we finally had dinner here recently. The food is DELICIOUS and fresh. The staff are friendly and accommodating. The music was a little loud but if I didn't have my newborn with me I don't think I would've even cared. I will definitely go back -- this is our new favorite spot.

This place was welcoming and spacious and filled with the rancheras of Vicente Fernandez one recent morning. The food was delicious, maybe a little on the higher end of pricing for a lunch meal. I would return to it, though, and sample more dishes.

I came here a few times with hubbs for happy hour specials. We originally wanted to try them out during Cinco de Mayo but they were packed to the brim and now I know it was for good reason. We've only sat at the bar when we've visited. The bartenders are attentive and you can put in and receive your order quickly. Also, no wait for your next drink, so... We've had some food items and usually order their fun and colourful and HUGE margherita drinks. They have one (I forget the name) that comes with a Mexican lollipop in it that is soooo good. I love it and the lillipop has an interesting flavour that's making me salivate just writing about it. They're located five minutes from my home and across from Van Cortlandt Park so it's easy to just stop by on any given day. Their happy hour only includes drinks, I believe, but the food prices won't kill you.

Been coming here for a while really good food and great environment. If you want to bring your friends and family or just by yourself this is the spot.

I really wanted to like Bronx Public, but my experience ended up being pretty average…read more I ordered the plantain chips as an appetizer and the crispy chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries for my main course. The chicken sandwich was juicy with the sweet potato fries were cooked perfectly with a crispy outside and soft center. The plantain chips were a little undercooked for my taste. They also came out at the same time as my sandwich, so they really weren't much of an appetizer. I also ordered an Old Fashioned. Since it's my favorite cocktail, I may be harder to please than most, but I'd only give it a 2 out of 5. It just didn't have the balance and flavor I was expecting. The atmosphere was probably the highlight of the visit. They have seven big TVs throughout the restaurant, making it a great place to watch sports. Unfortunately, the service details brought the experience down. I asked twice for no pickles on my sandwich, but it still came out with pickles. Thank goodness I'm not allergic to pickles, because that could have been a much more serious mistake. It's a simple request that should have been caught. Overall, there were some positives, especially the sandwich, fries, and sports atmosphere, but too many small mistakes added up. Between the appetizer arriving with the main course, the undercooked plantain chips, the disappointing Old Fashioned, and the missed special request, this visit didn't live up to my expectations.

The crispy octopus easily rivals anything I've had in Manhattan, super tender with just the right crisp. The cassava hash browns were so good I was almost annoyed by how simple they were. Paired with a rich, meaty sauce and a fresh fennel crunch, the whole dish was incredibly balanced. The wings were the most straightforward item on the menu (in the best way), lightly spiced, slightly sweet, and great for picky eaters. Someone needs to give the bartenders a raise. I ordered three drinks just to test consistency--every single one was balanced, spirit-forward, and not overly sweet. The presentation was different on each one and felt intentional without being gimmicky. I've seen some of the lower Yelp ratings and they mostly call out price, but this is very much a you get what you pay for situation. The quality of the food, the portion sizes (especially for this level of execution), and the overall intentionality behind the menu justify it in my opinion. Service was excellent. They squeezed me in last minute, and my waiter, Dionicio, handled my coconut allergy (not easy at a Dominican spot) with real care and ease. The space itself is worth mentioning - moody, mushroom/mossy interiors. Super cute, very well thought out, and definitely a place I'll be coming back to.

What a wonderful spot for you to explore…read more We wanted to take our friend out to dinner for his birthday he likes a low key style. We called a head since it was 6 of us to see if we could do a walk in or if we needed a reservation , and both options are available which is a plus. Dress attire is your choice we dressed regular nothing fancy just day to day hang out style. We were greeted kindly by the staff sat down handed a set of dominoes to play with while we waited for our food and drank some water. The place is decorated nicely and you can see the vision in mind definitely. We placed our orders and I'm not gonna lie I came in thinking the food was gonna be eh but I was blown away by the flavors. For drinks we ordered a spicy sunset, pretty young thing and cokes. The spicy sunset is a nice strong drink and is rimmed nicely with just the right amount is tajin as you drink it; it has a nice smoky after taste to it definitely was delicious. The pretty young thing was a nice citrusy drink with a little salty aftertaste, which balanced out the flavor nicely. The cokes were not water down they were good as well. For food we ordered the Cuban sandwich with parmesan fries, butter chicken wings, butter chicken macaroni and cheese, steak nachos grande, butter chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries and mom's butter chicken platter. This was a wonderful Spanish and Indian style combination of flavors. Definitely my first time having this type of food and wow what a mind blowing experience. Not one person in the table complained or had anything negative to say about their food. We all tried each other's food and each bite we exchanged to try was delicious and better than the last . The Cuban was delicious but the parmesan fries stole the show from that meal it was paired so lovely who would've thought those flavors would've mixed nicely. The buttery chicken wings oh my God dripping with goodness each bite was legit finger licking good lol. The butter chicken macaroni very very delicious. Had a nice cheese pull and a good balance could not stop eating it. The steak nachos were delicious I wish It had a little more meat, but it was not bad. The butter chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries also delicious and the fries were cooked so nicely that it was crispy and soft at the same time per bite. The mom's butter chicken platter was delicious they gave the right amount of sauce, the pita bread was delicious and soft, the salad that it was paired with was good too the rice was decently portioned. Everything was definitely tasty. Not one complaint of any of the meals. We did not wait long for the food. Bathrooms were nice and clean. I want to come back to try more things in the menu that's how good the food was and our group agreed to also come back with us. This spot is definitely a place to try. They have a beautiful quote right near the bar that really spoke to us, especially during these times it said "you are exactly where you need to be." It makes you stop for a second and really take it in and just live in the moment ... especially living in New York, where you have to be always go go go fast fast fast. This was really beautifully written thank you to the staff who made our night and our friend's birthday special we'll see you soon.

I noticed other new items, such as the pork Ossobuco, which sounded better on paper, but Felix, who had taken over from Irma, stated the Pork Chop was better than the Ossobuco and accounts for my to go order. I still wonder about that decision, but the important thing is Home Bx is constantly evolving while the chefs in the kitchen remain constant and consistent. The roasted chicken is really good and verges on comfort food. It comes with a malanga truffle puree, which is a puree of the malanga tuber in the Caribbean and South America, resulting in a consistency of mashed potatoes, but has a nutty flavor that becomes very earthy with the butter, truffle oil and mushroom sauce, sparked with white wine and bits of bacon that has you thinking pancetta. The sauteed spinach accompanying this dish melds perfectly well with this dish. The chicken is the boneless breast and bone-in wing drumette, grilled in their kitchen. The skin is crispy and there is some char from the grill on certain parts, lending even greater favor and texture you will devour. The white meat of the breast absorbs the white wine, balanced with the butter and truffle oil and never has a hint of dryness. I am certain this dish would have been exceptional had I eaten it on premises. It will not have the impact of the Cote de Boeuf, but, at twenty seven bucks, this is probably the sleeper on the menu. Four stars. The Home Pork Chop is a single French cut chop, medium thickness, bone-in resembling a mini Tomahawk style frenched bone. It comes with a Marsala mustard sauce, which I could not determine if it was made with a dry red or white Marsala wine. It was served with an Oriental sweet potato mashed that did not do anything for this dish in my opinion. I would have to revisit this by eating it on premises, but this was the least impressive of the steak and chicken. Please take this review a little lightly, given I ate the chicken and pork chop at home. The pork chop benefits from being grilled as well, but did not have the impact other preparations have at Home Bx. If the Marsala mustard sauce had more bite to it, the Oriental sweet potato would have offered the contrast and juxtaposition for this dish to shine more. You'll enjoy eating the rest of the meat off that frenched pork chop bone. 3.8 stars. They work very hard at Home Bx to deliver on your plate for the benefit of your palate. Home Bx may be the only restaurant I have found that is receiving feedback and acting upon it and without anyone's prompts and Home Bx is independently evolving in their menu, preparation, and presentation. If there's any doubt, try their Lobster Mac and Cheese and get back to me or ask the folks nearby who ordered it.
