Thai spice is one of my favorite restaurants to order take out from (good portions, super flavorful, noodles not mushy after transit). My partner and I went in person for the first time recently, and while we thought the exterior + dining room were unassuming/basic, the food continues to be phenomenal! We ordered the tom yum soup, som tum, pla sam rod with salmon and the duck choo chee. The tom yum soup was one of the best I've had - tangy, spicy and not overly sweet. The som tum unfortunately was sweeter and had less fish sauce and garlic than I would've liked, but the veggies and papaya were super fresh. The salmon pla sam rod and duck choo chee were both fantastic! The pla sam rod sauce was a great balance of sweet, savory, and spicy. The salmon and basil were fried perfectly and held up well to the sauce. The duck was also fried perfectly and stayed crispy despite the red curry + coconut milk that coated it. The veggies were also very fresh and kept the dish light. We loved the flavors and textures of the duck choo chee - the red curry was very aromatic and lemongrassy, and the coconut milk added some creaminess. We had this for the first time recently, and the food was very good. As was the friendly customer service (we got the food to go, so we can't speak much to the ambiance). What was not good was the notable discrepancy in price on the website versus the actual prices. So, this review is a PSA because Thai Spice really needs to rectify this immediately and get all of its sites updated. At the time of our order two weeks ago (and at the time that I am writing this review), the website https://thaispiceauthentic.com/ and the PDF menu hyperlink on that website (and the Order Now hyperlinks on the site) all reflect outdated prices. If you access the business via the https://www.yumdthaicuisine.com/ site (immediately confusing because this does not appear to be the current restaurant name, and the sign outside the restaurant says Thai Spice) or if you Google the restaurant and access the Toast site to order, you will get the current, actual prices. But these are way too many variables for a customer to reasonably navigate or to know what is accurate. We ordered the following: - Thai Sampler - We expected to pay $14.96/99 (two prices, one on the PDF and one via the Order Now link); the actual current price is an astounding $22.50 ($15 was a good deal, we thought; $22.50 is not--not for what you get) - Chicken Pad Thai - We expected to pay $13.96/99; the actual price is $14.95 - Yellow Curry - $13.96/99; actual price, $14.95 - Sticky Rice - $3.00; actual price, $4.00 A difference of over $10. I really wanted to like this place after seeing all the great reviews but damn, we had a bad takeout experience. The food itself was pretty okay.. the pineapple fried rice was good but had absolutely no cashew nuts!!!! While placing the order on phone, we asked for Green curry and were told it wasn't available. So we switched to Massaman curry and I'm not sure we got that either. It did not have potatoes or peanuts (like the menu says it would) Overall, it was a very meh experience. We were expecting much more from this little place. It had good ratings. The waitress was nice and somewhat friendly. They seem to do a fair takeout business. My son ordered the chicken satay app with a side of rice. The rice came wrapped in plastic and was DEFINITELY old. He wouldn't let is return it. He ate my rice anyway. My DH had a supposed to be spicy dish that was not. They should have asked how spicy but didn't. My ginger chicken was good. I don't think we will go back read more

I have been going to this restaurant for many years. The quality of the food hasn't changed at all. Excellent service with delicious food. Their portions are very generous. I love their hot chilli oil, which adds more taste and flavor to their already delicious food. I did not post the picture of my favorite dessert there. I guess we were too busy eating the delicious dessert. Don't miss on their coconut sticky rice with fresh mangoes. It's worth indulging!! Gee! I was convinced I already reviewed Thai Spice after the first time we went, which is already a few years ago. Good thing Yelp reminded me, so here I go. Thai Spice is a whole in the wall, and not the one to avoid, but the one to visit. Thai Spice has an amazing menu to pick from. So far every dish we ordered has been delicious and the portions are generous. The service is friendly with an '!' This is the type of restaurant I must say deserves a better location and facility, so it matches up to the quality of food & service. Positive: The customer service is great! That has never really been a problem. They've even recently hired a server whose enthusiasm will have you so excited to eat here. He truly believes in the food! Unfortunately for me the food didn't deliver. I ate here years ago and I wasn't a fan. Started out with their Summer Roll (sometimes called a fresh roll) my staple starter at "Thai" establishments. Well it was chewy, kinda rubbery and somewhat bland.... Then went for the Thai Calamari. It was okay. It either needed more seasoning on the calamari or more sauce to dip it in. The dipping sauce cup was barely halfway filled. Also had the crispy tofu which was??? I still don't know if I liked it. And lastly my favorite dish to order at a Thai place is always a duck salad, if it's offered. Glad to see it was on the menu. This had the heat that I look for but lacked the depth of flavor. My salad was also swimming in a bunch of liquid. I'm not sure what it was, but it wasn't dressing. It caused the salad to go from somewhere crispy to limp and soggy. This was such a disappointment. If this is what they offer, I'm not really sure where all the positive reviews come from. Maybe it's in the Pad Thai which I see a bunch of pictures/reviews of? But with a menu full of various items, I'm a little more adventurous than the basic American comfort Pad Thai. I ordered the chicken pad Thai for carry out early on a week night. Service was extremely quick and food was hot when I picked it up and stayed hot until I got home. I asked for the pad Thai to be spicy and they were not afraid to bring on the heat! Watch out if you can't handle spice I wouldn't recommend asking for any heat. But man was it exactly what I was looking for. Only bad thing was - where is the chicken?!?! I got take out once and ate here once. The resturant is located in a tiny plaza with only a couple of parking spots and the resturant itself is pretty small with maybe seating for no more than 50 people? I got drunken noodles delivered and appreciated then giving me chili oil and hot sauce on the side with my order, but was a bit disappointed with the noodles being a little too mushy. They were also on the oiler side. When I went to see if it was just the travel time that made the noodles mushy I found that it was just how they're made by this restaurant. Despite the noodles being mushy the taste was good and the portion made it a pretty good deal for the price. I also ordered the boat noodle soup and was sadly disappointed with it. The broth tasted very oily like old oil and I left the resturant very dehydrated due to their use of MSG in it. I might give this place a other try next time and get a curry or another dish. I will definately stay away from anything that has broth. Not sure where all the good reviews are coming from, but I ordered Pad See Ew and Tom ka ga soup and neither was very good. It tasted no different than regular Chinese food. The pad see ew had regular broccoli, the noodles were completely overcooked, no egg, and overloaded with regular Chinese soy sauce. I took my twelve-year-old nephew here and was pleasantly surprised by the food, especially the dumplings which were really good. The flavors were on point and a little unique in that they were more authentic compared to other Thai restaurants. I got the hot basil chicken and asked for it extra spicy, which I'm happy to say it was. Many restaurants are reluctant to do this, and the waitress asked me if I was sure, I'm glad they actually made it as hot as I like it. My nephew had the clear broth soup and the flavors were really great. The service was good, the waitress was very attentive, but we did have to wait longer than usual even though they weren't super busy when we first got there. This used to be my favorite Thai restaurant. The former owners would go out of the way to make you dishes, and their Kai kra pow was delicious and made authentic with ground chicken. Now, the chicken felt unevenly cooked and made me feel sick. The fish curry we ordered was okay, but the papaya salad was too fishy and tasted weird. I remember years ago leaving them a 5 star review, but sadly, we won't be visiting them again. The mango and coconut dish lacked sweetness. We've gotten food from Thai Spice a number of times over the years. Most of the food we've tried was ok but our favorite go to is their pad Thai. It's always packed with flavor! We got pad Thai again a couple of months ago after a long period of not doing any take out (because of the pandemic) and while the pad Thai was delicious as expected, I was actually surprised to see the owner going about his business without a mask on. The rest of the staff were wearing masks but he made no effort to put one on. Mask wearing is so important when interacting with customers throughout the day. I stopped by for dinner on Wednesday with some co-workers. The place is modest and just your typical local Thai joint. What was unique was how they even have a photo booth in the back, kind of strange. The place was not particularly busy, but we must have just gotten there as orders were placed because unfortunately, the service was lacking. It took about 10 minutes to even get our menus and water to begin with. After we placed our orders and one appetizer to share, we did not see any of our food for about 40 minutes. We were absolutely starving and was not sure why it was taking so long as they didn't check in with us to give us an update (I had to ask). I ordered the green chicken curry, which was actually very good. It was pretty spicy, which I enjoyed. My coworkers also ordered the crispy pad thai and drunken noodles, much to their content. I just had to knock off one star due to the service. I would be hesitant to eat in again but would be happy to try more dishes as take-out. This is a small storefront restaurant on the Post Road that serves very good Thai cuisine. I have eaten here several times and have always had great food. The vegetable spring rolls are my favorite appetizer, it's a thin rice clear rice covering surrounding fresh veggies with a sweet side sauce. Usually I get the curries with whatever protein I want. They can make it very mild to very spicy, just let them know where you are comfortable. My son once ordered his food Thai hot which means how they eat it n Thailand, it's not for the faint of heart. We would highly recommend Thai Spice. We thoroughly enjoyed our takeout: ton gai soup, yellow curry with chicken, pad Thai noodle, and chicken satay. Each item was nicely flavored and portions were generous. Although we don't live in the area, the next time we travel to the New Haven, we will make a special effort to order from Thai Spice or to have a meal in their restaurant.
