I make a point of ordering a different entrée on each visit, and it has never been hit or miss--everything is consistently delicious and perfectly prepared. The service is outstanding as well. I was traveling back from Boston and one of my friends recommended this spot as she's been going here for years. After this visit, I can see why. It's a somewhat small spot, but we got there during an off peak time, so it wasn't busy. There's also a side parking lot for the restaurant which was convenient. We started off with the Thai Sampler. This was a good option for 3 of us since we were indecisive! It came with a good set of sauces. I ordered the Tom Yum Goong and the Pik Prow Duck. These were both delicious! The Pik Prow Duck was my favorite, and it's more on the savory side. The Tom yum Goong was also delicious! I'd come back for both of these dishes alone had I not lived too far. 11.19.21 I unfortunately don't come here often enough. I've been coming here for a couple of years now. I and anyone I've been here with have always had great experiences and great food. One of my favorite dishes here is their Lard Na. It is absolutely amazing. Delicious. I absolutely love the gravy with the wider noodles. Any and all of the staff have always been so accommodating and gracious. They also make sure to ask for your level of spiciness and/or heat that you desire or don't desire. They accommodate to your specifications of heat in some of the dishes. They let you byob with a modest cork fee which is pleasantly reasonable and not expensive at all. Their food prices are also reasonable. It's a smaller restaurant on the cozy side. They have a couple of tables outside on the sidewalk for the warmer months. The restaurant is clean. There is street parking. But, they also have a small private parking lot alongside the restaurant which many aren't aware of. Another food favorite here is the chicken Larb mild spicy. I was here a couple of months ago with some special Yelp friends actually, and they turned me onto this next option that I'll mention. I recently had their Tom Kar Gai soup which i have become a fan of here. We got a pot of it and shared it amongst us which was great. We had more than enough to go around. Thanks D & P. I've been meaning to come here for lunch. Even though it was Saturday they had lunch specials which a lot of restaurants don't have on the weekend. What I liked about their lunch specials were their samplers. You got to choose three different dishes. I ordered Pad Thai, Chicken in Ginger sauce and Spring Rolls. I have ordered from Rice Pot many times when I am craving for some affordable Thai food. I typically order the drunken noodles and make it spicy. When they say spicy it is spicy! I can handle spicy, but think they should offer a gradient of spice so it doesn't destroy the taste buds of some individuals who just want a small kick. Their noodles vary sometimes and I think it depends on their vendor. Sometimes their noodles come out full and lengthy, but sometimes it is a bit mushy and all chopped. The flavor profile is great and I continue to order from them despite the varying noodle shape and sizes. I also pair my order with Thai Iced Coffee and despite it being a bit expensive it is a solid beverage to pair with your food. I have tried their tom yum soup and was not a fan. Here is what I ordered for takeout: Drunken Noodles with chicken was burnt tasting and the dish had too much onions and eggs. Over cooked chicken and the dish smelled like a fresh cracked open egg. Drunken Noodles with shrimp was the same but the shrimp were not de-veined (dirty). Over cooked shrimp as well!! I've been very happy with their green curry. It's got a little bit of heat plus some great textures, such as the bamboo shoots and string beans. This is a local place for us. I've tried it at least 4 times with similar results. We mainly order appetizers so this is the subject of the review. We ordered the wings which were advertised as qty 6. You don't get the whole wing- paddle and drumstick which, in my view constitutes a wing. You get 6 pieces or the equivalent of 3 wings. Every appetizer appears to be made in advance, reheated and then bagged for you to pick up- including the wings. We ordered the equivalent of Shu-mai, their vegetable pancake, wings and sticky rice. I don't think anything was made after I called- everything is made in advance and reheated- not really a restaurant- more like frozen and reheat. If you order at the place, it might be different. I give it two stars because it was edible but certainly not "prepared" or served well. I have yet to find a good asian (read Chinese or Thai) restaurant in New Haven. read more

The food was fine, but nothing of note. The Tom Yum Soup was quite authentic with the right kick and spicyness without the sour tanginess that most other places default to. But in terms of main dishes, my boat wasn't floated. The pad see euw beef was overcooked, the chinese broccoli unfresh and to hard to be deemed as edible, and the pad thai was missing the tamarind sweet kick that I enjoy so thoroughly. The Rice Pot is my very favorite Thai restaurant for good reason! It used to be "Thai Taste" and had much more indoor seating, but the Sweet &Sour chicken , the Tom Kar Gai, (coconut soup) & the golden puffs are generous, & addictively delish! Although they most likely do more take-out business, The food is so beautifully plated as a sit down dinner, and the taste, the taste, the taste....yum!! The waitresses are so nice and pleasant and they make the time spent there so enjoyable! We LOVE going there! If I could write odes, I would write an ode to the Pad Thai at Rice Pot. It is so hard to find a pad Thai that isn't pink and tangy these days. The pad Thai at Rice Pot is perfectly balanced with savory umami and tang from the tamarind (but not too much!) It's not over-sauced or greasy. I've ordered delivery from here three times, and while the first time was really good, the second two times was really disappointing. The pad ped duck was really good, nice and crispy. I also really liked the hot basil stir fry with vegetables and tofu the first time, but the two times I ordered it after, the veggies were overcooked, tasteless, and they left out the tofu. Ironically the classic Thai dishes are the ones most lacking. Som tum and tom yum soup were bland and boring and the noodle dish had almost no protein in it. WOW this is probably my favorite Thai restaurant in New Haven, and there are at least half a dozen options to choose from! If this place were closer to downtown, I'd definitely come here at least twice a week. The restaurant is a quaint, small, clean restaurant near The Pantry. Definitely the most worth it for the price you're getting because you're getting two entree samplers and a side dish. I ordered drunken noodle, shrimp cashew, and spring roll. My friend got pad thai, shrimp cashew nut, and chicken satay. Both of us shared the food, so I got a sample of their most popular dishes. I would've liked it for them to ask what level of spice for the drunken noodle, but the dish was very tasty with a good consistency of egg and veggies. Pad thai was a bit sweeter than I'm used to, but still a yummy version. Shrimp cashew had multiple pieces of shrimp and chunks of pineapple, and chicken satay noticeably was hot off the grill. Amazing Thai food! Some of the best drunken noodles I have ever tasted. It's pleasantly spicy too. Great portion sizes for the entrees. Also, wanted to mention how great their service was. I came here like 2 years ago during a really hot summer day and saw a tiny fruit fly in my drunken noodles. I was kinda grossed out, but was willing to pay for the entire meal because at that point, I had finished almost all of it. When I alerted the staff, they apologized profusely and asked me if I wanted to replace my meal with anything else. When I declined and just asked for the check, they surprised me and came back with no check. The waitress said that the meal was on the house! Since that incident, I have come back to Rice Pot with friends and have NEVER had an issue with food cleanliness. My friends and family have never had such an incident either. The restaurant and bathrooms have always looked pretty clean as well. It was just a one-off mistake (honestly, pretty understandable and probably due to the scorching summer heat) and I appreciate how nice/receptive they were about it.
