It was odd since the cooks stop what they're doing and stare back when we tried to watch them cook. But after getting the food, we can understand why since they probably didn't know how to cook. Until today, every time I asked for my steak to be rare, it was always BEYOND well done. Suddenly they have changed the vegetables. Instead of receiving zucchini, broccoli and onions, I received a pile of boiled cabbage, a whole 2 tiny fragments of broccoli and boiled carrots. I ordered steak and chicken teriyaki. I received 5 tiny cubes of steak and an ass load of chicken. They poured so much teriyaki in it that by the time I made it through the top half layer of rice, the rest was teriyaki/rice soup. The price certainly hasn't decreased, yet the quality seems to be on a constant downhill. 100% done with this restaurant. read more

Do not let the outside appearance turn you away. No frills or bright lights necessarily but the food is the star. Some of the BEST HIBACHI I've ever had and it was in a styrofoam container. And abundant!!!! The chicken and steak hibachi, fresh veggies, rice and yum yum sauce are next level. The Sushi I got (forgot the name) was superb. The presentation of the to-go sushi was beautiful. This is my first time eating here and I'm glad I came across this place. It's a small restaurant tucked away in a shopping center, so it's easy to miss. It's what I would consider Japanese quick service. The service is friendly and food is very good (delicious). They have dine-in or carry out. It was fairly busy during the time I was there (lunchtime). Yummy Japan has acquired a new regular customer. I highly recommend this place. read more

Great sushi! What a fantastic place to get sushi and fresh Japanese food. We stopped in today for lunch and had a great meal. The restaurant is what I would call fast casual. Order at the counter and they bring your food out when it's ready. Place your order, grab drinks at the self serve machine then grab a seat. Watch through the large large glass window in front as the chef cooks your meal. Great prices for quick, tasty food! There's a window by the grill so you can watch the chefs at work. We also enjoyed the kitty waving from the cashier desk. Clean looking interior with indoor dining and carry out options. Place order at the counter and then enjoy. The food is always hot, always good and season correctly. We stopped here after a hike in nearby Glen Lyn on a friend's recommendation. As soon as we walked in, I noticed the "fast food" vibe and decided to stick with sushi. I chose correctly. I went with a California roll, Philadelphia roll, and an avocado roll. The avocado was browning just a tad, but it tasted fine. The Philadelphia roll was the best of the three. My friend ordered the house special, which was a chicken, shrimp, and veggie stir-fry. She liked it and offered me a taste. I thought it was good. Paul went with a beef bento box. He did not like that the beef had mushrooms cooked with it. I tried it and thought it was okay. My gripe is the use of disposable eating utensils and sushi trays. I am not a huge fan of Japanese food, but at Yummi Japan, the food is always fresh and the service is good.

We had the spicy tuna, and shrimp tempura roll. The price is great for six pieces and the rolls are well put together. They are tasty and were brought to the table quickly. We also had the hibachi and terryaki steak. I have to say they both taste the same. One had zucchini , broccoli and the other had cabbage. They both had small pieces of steak and a lot of rice. If they uped the anti on the steak portion would gladly come back. The service is great ,most of the tables were not wiped down. Therefore the loss of star. Good for a try. read more

I love yummi Japan! I moved from the bluefield area and it makes me sad that I can't get it all the time like i used to when I lived there! Where I moved now the cheapest place to get good Japanese is $60 every time and it sucks to pay that much! Yummi Japan has great yum yum sauce, great food, great proportions, great prices and great customer service! Not so nice on the outside of the restaurant but the food was very yummy. If you are in the area I suggest stopping by if you're in the mood for sushi or teriyaki bowls. I got the teriyaki chicken and jumbo shrimp bowl and it was delicious. The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars is because the shrimp was not jumbo, more like regular sized and the price is a little more than the regular shrimp so I can't imagine the size of the regular shrimp. read more

This is probably my favorite place in Princeton. Lately we have been getting food to go from here weekly. Yes, weekly. It's that good. I'm a big fan of their jumbo shrimp hibachi. The shrimp is delicious and cooked perfectly - same with the veggies - and the sauce just puts it over the edge. Mmmm. I always get eel avocado sushi as well, and it's PERFECT each time. I would recommend it a thousand times over. Recently I started to try to eat healthier a bit, which meant no more jumbo shrimp hibachi for me! I opted for a salad and clear soup. The clear soup is better actually at the other Japanese restaurant in Princeton, which was shocking because everything I've had at Yummi Japan up to this point was far superior. It was still good and with some tweaking could be even better! I also got a Kani salad which wasn't really something I liked, but it was still good enough to eat. I could see other people enjoying it, it's not just something I personally would get again. I feel like they put too much "birdseed" on the salad (I have no idea what this stuff is actually called, but my dad is half Japanese and he said in Japan they call it birdseed). A bit less of it and it would have been better, considering comprised of half the salad. Next time, I'll be ordering the Avocado salad and hope they don't put so much on it if they use it on that salad also. My hubby always gets veggie rolls and veggie hibachi. It considers it basically heaven, so it must be incredibly good as well. Once we also got ink age (apparently it's pronounced Inka Ah-gay) for my dad and he said it was pretty good also, and this is a man that has had plenty of it in his life - so if he is impressed then they did something right! I would definitely recommend Yummi Japan probably more than any place in Princeton. It's delicious, different, and FAST with a good selection of yummy food. I wish I could eat it every day read more

Very unique place. It's set up like a fast food place, yet they serve top notch food. You order and pay at the counter, then sit down and they bring you your food super fast, like about 4 minutes. The place is very clean. There is a very large window/wall where you can watch them cook your food. The sushi is very good, like a Japanese restaurant, not like buffet shushi. The side of noodles is just okay. The Seaweed Salad and mango Smoothies are very good. The mango smoothies look expensive, but they are large and full of mango. The only Asian restaurant in the area that I recommend to family and friends-especially ones visiting from out of town. The service is quick and friendly. The amount of food you get for the price is unbelievable and it tastes wonderful. The dining area has always been clean when we eat there. This restaurant, probably has the cleanest bathrooms in the entire town. In the winter time, they even go as far as to put up a small enclosed entrance on the outside of the door to keep the cold air from coming in on the customers while eating. read more

Everything about this place felt like a fast food restaurant. The atmosphere is comparable to a Tudor's Biscuit World. I don't recall seeing one Japanese person (the cooks, I believe, were Mongolian or Korean). The quality of the food was very average. I had some version of a teriyaki chicken rice bowl and the chicken was cut very poorly, resulting in large pieces that were difficult to eat with chop sticks. The price was fair, I guess, for the quality. I would rather pay a few dollars more at Kimono for the better atmosphere, quality, and service. (Also, everything is served in styrofoam, even the soup.
