Ate here for lunch. They have a variety of lunch specials for $8 or $9. They also have a 2 roll sushi special for lunch for $8, 3 rolls for $12. I had the lunch special Kung Pao chicken, which comes with 2 crab Rangoon and choice of hot and sour soup or egg drop soup. I had the hot and sour soup, which was quite flavorful. I was really looking forward to an order of cashew chicken. I was extremely disappointed with the quality oif the chicken. It was not made with good white breast of chicken meat. It was very scrappy pieces, like everything except the good white meat. The meat had a fatty taste. It was not good quality of chicken. I'm not sure why this place has gotten such a bad rep. I have gone here about 10 times since it opened a year and a half ago when I started grad school. The place is clean (bathrooms too), friendly staff (Chinese, haven't had one of the American waiters yet), good food, and good prices. The interior is nice and trendy for Macomb. I lived in China for a few years and it isn't all authentic, but it's a great American Chinese place. Many dishes are authentic for China too. The dumplings, hot pot, kung pao chicken, and a few others. They also deliver which is nice. Delivery takes about 30 minutes, even though they will say 35-45 minutes. read more

Yummy Chen's is very VERY unreliable. Several times we have walked out due to POOR service. The food is good the majority of the time, which is why we have returned after walking out multiple times. The owner doesn't care about her customers. After being hurriedly seated by the owner (acting as host), we weren't acknowledged for 10 minutes by anyone, staff or owner. All of who walked past us multiple times. When confronted with our issues, the owner said "well that's what happens when we are busy," and "we'll I guess this restaurant isn't for you". She barely looked up from her phone and computer while I was speaking, sternly but not yelling, to her. She gave no cares as to how my experience could have been improved nor no effort to win back my business. Shame. We really like (usually) this establishment. read more

I searched Yelp! for Macomb buffets and this place came up. However, Yummy Chen's has no buffet service and that turned to be wonderful because the lunch was so much better than what a buffet would have provided. What it has is a large menu of Far East entrees, reasonably priced, with a variety of lunch specials. Egg Drop soup delightfully surprised with crunchy water chestnut pieces in an egg broth. However, the meal standout was the crispy skin salmon roll. It wowed in presentation and taste. The accompanying strips of crispy fried salmon were like eating seafood bacon. It all was indescribably delicious. My main entree, the Yummy Combination, was steak, shrimp, chicken, crab and veggies in a brown sauce. While it was tasty it couldn't compete with the unique crispy salmon skin. I also enjoyed excellent service in a cozy, comfortable spot that could do duty for dates, business meetings, solo, or group meals. read more

Excellent food. Moved here several months ago from northern Illinois. Tried many around here but this first time here WOWED me. The different menu, use of zuchinni and other veggies is great. Hot mustard is something else - not the wimpy runny yellow packets but delivered in small containers with bulk and a bite. Meat in my dish melted in my mouth. I love hot and spicy and as requested extra hot they delivered. It's about a 25 mile 1-way drive but when I'm in town I'll definitely be stopping by and trying other dishes. read more

Incredibly impressed today after a much anticipated opening! Customers were 1 in 1 out, it was extremely busy-I've never seen this location so full. Service was great with little to no improvements to be had, especially since it was their first advertises opening date. The food was fresh (we had Mongolian beef and General Tso) and and the lunch special was a steal including the lunch sashimi. Sushi was thick cut which isn't our preference and they don't have apricot sweet and sour sauce (bummer) but the renovations, food, and service will make me a loyal customer very quickly. I eat here frequently and never had a single complaint. The restaurant replaced Yen Ching, which was a bit divey, but had the best Chinese and Thai food in town. So I am going to make comparisons. Yummy Chen's food quality seems a bit cheap, a bit bland, and overly sweet. Yen Ching had flavorful and authentic Chinese and Thai. The egg drop soup was awful, just a thick chicken stock that tasted a bit off. How is that soup? Yen Ching's egg drop soup was flavorful and had vegetables and water chestnut. Good crab rangoon is something I am a stickler about. Lin's Garden is way too sweet, Yummy Chen's is also sweet. If I had choice, I would go with Hong Kong Express or Hy-Vee. So sad to see Yen Ching go, they had the best crab rangoon in town. Yummy Chen's is supposed to serve Thai food, but I never have seen any since they opened and the sign on door says unavailable. Yen Ching had amazing Chicken Pad Thai, sadly I can not have that anymore. I am a bit of a tea snob. So fountain ice tea and tea bag green tea is not very good at Yummy Chen's, and you have to pay for it. Yen Ching you got complementary hot jasmine tea that was amazing. The decor is nice, but the food is just not that good. Think of it as a bit better than Asian Buffet. Not as good as Lin's Garden on a good day, better than Lin's Garden on a good day. Lin's Garden has given good food and just awful food I could not eat. Lin's Garden is cheaper in price, again really not that good either. I am really saddened by Yen Ching not getting the business Yummy Chen's has. The owners were great people and the food was the best in town. I'm probably going to end up eating more at Hong Kong Express or cooking Chinese at home. I being a white American can cook better Chinese than Chen. Yummy Chen's just isn't that yummy. read more

Not impressed at all. Service was average except the server smelled like an ashtray. Food was blah smothered in some type is sauce which turned the breaded "chicken" into mush. Egg roll was crap also just shredded cabbage in an egg roll wrapper. Price was average. On to why I give one star. Cleanliness is not a priority at this place. The bathroom was so dirty and as I walked in the bathroom the smell of sewer gas was overwhelming. The dining room was a mess and our seats had food all over them. I've come here 3 different times and here are my experiences: First time: It was only 1 other table seated in the restaurant. We were seated and received the menus and the server didn't come back I had to call for him across the room after about 15-20 minutes went by. We ordered General Tso and sushi and it was good especially to be from a restaurant in Macomb. After we ate we waited again for the server to clear the table and gives us a check again I had to call him over to do so because he was taking so long. Second time: I ordered one sushi roll for delivery. The food was to be delivered on campus which is about a 3-4 minute drive from Yummy CHENS. I ordered at 6:15 and didn't receive the food until 8pm. They gave me the food for half for the wait. I opened my food and it was the wrong order. When I called back they gave me $10 to my next purchase. Third time: I came in to use my $10 and the server told me I could only use it for take out and not dine in. After speaking with the manager she allowed me to use it for dine in. The service I then received was bad again. The food is good I think all can agree on that but the service is so bad. The servers are still having a hard time with English and they can't answer questions about the menu. They never come to check on you and you have to request a check. If you do go have patience you'll need it. read more

This place just keeps getting better and better. They have a terrific menu and a number of items hard to find anymore. The prices are very reasonable for what you get. The sushi and sashimi are truely high quality and lots of rolls if that is your thing. Nice mix of Asian options. The jumbo shrimp entres are huge...like the Salt and Pepper Jumbo Shrimp...big shrimp and probably a dozen of them for $11...crazy. The Thai options have all been good. Even my elderly parents are excited to go here...at 87 thats saying something. Have begun to recognize the waitstaff so not much turnover...another good sign. Yummy Chen`s has just reopened after closing because of an administrative dispute between partners. This was their first Saturday open since December, I believe. They were packed on Saturday evening and struggling a bit trying to fit everyone in, and we ended up eating at the bar since they were so crowded. The service was a bit inefficient, but given it was the first night for some workers like our waitress, they were doing very well with such a crowd. The food was hot, fresh, well-prepared and delicious. The restaurant is clean and well-kept. I will definitely return soon. We`re really happy to have them back in business! read more
