Yummy Chen`s has just reopened after closing because of an administrative dispute between partners. This was their first Saturday open since December, I believe. They were packed on Saturday evening and struggling a bit trying to fit everyone in, and we ended up eating at the bar since they were so crowded. The service was a bit inefficient, but given it was the first night for some workers like our waitress, they were doing very well with such a crowd. The food was hot, fresh, well-prepared and delicious. The restaurant is clean and well-kept. I will definitely return soon. We`re really happy to have them back in business! read more

Worst tempura I have ever had Ordered the shrimp tempura lunchbox. Came with two breaded shrimp, nothing like tempura shrimp I've ever had. Underneath was tempura vegetables with a thick coating of tempura. Broccoli tasted like it was frozen, not fresh. Had to ask for table service. Never going back. read more

While on a trip to Macomb to visit my cousin who attends the university, I was told this was one of the few really notable restaurants in town. I was immediately impressed by the large selection of items on the menu ranging from all varieties of asian food. They even had a great selection of hand rolled, house made sushi. We got the WIU roll (a vegetarian roll) which was topped with mango and a spicy sauce. Would highly suggest if you're not a big fan of fish but want to try some sushi! For the entree, I got the sesame chicken. I was highly tempted to get one of the Thai dishes as I'm a huge fan of Thai food, but I went the safe route and ordered the sesame. I was not disappointed, but I will definitely opt for one of the more off the wall choices next time! We also upgraded to fried rice instead of the standard white. Totally worth it! Stopped in looking for a bit of variety after a number of restaurant meals. When I saw the Thai selection at the bottom of The menu I was intrigued. The staff suggested that it was some of the best Thai food they have ever had. So I went for it. Probably the worst Thai food I've ever eaten. No coconut flavour, no lemon grass, no spice and chock-full of cornstarch. I was able to pick through the chicken but didn't finish. However, I did get a bit of sushi from the young chef and it was outstanding. I'll stick with the sushi next time. read more

I usually have no problem with Yummy Chen's, their food is always good. However when I order carry out and they give me the wrong food and I bring it back to them after I have touched it and looked through it and taken it to my car it is not okay to turn around and give it to the customer that actually ordered it. This is a poor excuse for Chinese food. One of the reviews stated the person had lived in China for a few years and the kung pao chicken was an authentic dish based upon their experience. Perhaps the chef quit after they dined there, because we also lived and traveled in China for 4 years. I ordered kung pao chicken often and never had it served up in the same manner as Not-So-Yummy Chen. Not only was the food not authentic, it just did not taste good. We frequent Yummy Chen's a lot. I really love their sushi and the majority of their dishes. The service is always great too. I've never once had a problem with service, so its strange that there are reviews where people have had terrible service on multiple occasions. Maybe consistent bad luck? Anyway, I've never been out of the United States so my knowledge of authenticity is limited, but it sure is delicious! We both love the Yummy Spicy Chicken the most out of their regular dishes, and I love the spicy crab roll and Philadelphia rolls out of the sushi items. I wasn't a fan of any of their Thai dishes, which I haven't ordered since I tried them the first time, they were very different than any other Thai food I've had. The food is ok but the service needs ALOT of work!! My food came out way before my husband's he did not care for his entree but mine was satisfactory. The waiter just forgot about us did not come back with drinks when we asked. They have been open several weeks so this should be worked out. A table of six complained to their waiter that 5 of them had food and one dis not and hi a order was sweet n sour chicken..seriously???? Then the waiter fought back with her n she was not being rude at all. We miss yen ching terribly!!! I loved the food! It was fresh and delicious! I've been there a few times and each time was different. Now, the food was great each time, but the service.... The first time my boyfriend and I went, and it was busy, but our server was excellent! The second time, it was a dead hour and what seemed to be short of servers? I wasn't sure who my server was the entire time. I was seated by the host and my boyfriend and I sat there for about 6 to 10 minutes before being helped. Our host came back and asked for our drinks. THEN another woman came and took our order, and we received our drinks 5 minutes after placing our order. We ordered an appetizer and it arrived with my dish and was served to my boyfriend, then a few minutes later his dish arrived. Not only was it disorganized, but yet another strange person brought it out to us! That's 3 different people who served us! But after that, we waited FOREVER for our bill. We had to flag someone down and ask for it, because no one there seemed to care if we enjoyed our meal. That time was dreadful. I almost didn't go a third time, because of the previous experience. But, I decided that since the first time was wonderful, maybe the second visit was just a bad day. So I went again, for the third time. Food, great. Service...it was mediocre. Overall, I would prefer take out, rather than dine in because of the service. Which make this place just another Asian restaurant. Before their grand opening, I was excited to go to a place that wasn't a buffet, and offered more than take out. It seemed like a great place to dine in and enjoy their food in a different atmosphere, other than my couch. Pretty darn good Chinese food with some sushi options. I feel like the sushi is pretty fresh but the pieces are really big and hard to eat. Like REALLY big pieces. Large portions of Chinese food too. So far I love the general Tso chicken, sesame chicken, and Mongolian beef we have tried. read more

I go here multiple times a month and love it! I usually get their hand rolls and their thai basil noodle. The servers are always nice, the hosts are nice, and the cooks know what they're doing. The only issue I had was one day I went in and ordered the noodles and they brought me the wrong dish 2 times, so then I asked for my normal hand roll and the fish was still frozen so I gave it back. I was really upset at that but the waitress was nice and apologized many times and gave me free soup. But this was one incident out of the however many hundreds of times I've gone there! I wish I had better things to say... The food is great for Macomb standards but the service is absolutely atrocious. The people are nice. But they don't know how to provide good customer service in a timely manner. Last night we waited for an hour just to be seated - that was after we flagged down the lady to put our name on the list because no one greeted us or was paying attention to the people walking in. We would have waited longer but some friends let us join them at their table. Once seated we waited another 25 minutes before a server came to our table to get our drink orders. After finally ordering our food it was another 45 minutes before we ate. In total we waited TWO HOURS between arriving and eating. To top it off, the next day we decided to call and order some sushi to go. The guy answered and said "Yummy Chen's delivery" then proceeded to tell us that they would not be doing any delivery or to go orders. When we asked to speak to the manager we waited for about 5 minutes before being told that the manager was not in and we can call back tomorrow. It makes no sense to me that they don't want to take my $40 order and save a table. We were going to pick up our food as well. Extremely disappointed in the service here. It seems like they just cannot get their act together - no one there seems to have a set job and the customers lose out because no one can tell or seems to care if the customers have been helped or not. I will be calling back tomorrow to speak to a manager as I have never had service this bad. read more

I've kept eating here weekly, and the only consistency is in my visits. The filling in the crab rangoons has decreased even more!! And last night, the kung pao chicken, which normally has numerous chili peppers in it, had three. Also, kung pao chicken usually has peanuts in it, last night, not one to be found. And instead of peanuts, I found some mushrooms. Until the consistency of their food gets better, I will be taking my Asian food business across town, although not as flavorful, but at least I know what I will be getting!!! read more

Great sushi! Go during the lunch hours for the best prices. Great marinated chicken stick, miso soup, and crab rangoon as well. i have eaten here numerous times and I have to say that, for Macomb, this is a good restaurant. This isn't Chicago so I don't expect that level of cooking. Their food tends to be a bit under-seasoned but it is all generally good. Their sushi is fresh and tasty. The crab Rangoon is really good. Service has never been an issue for us. Growing up in a cultured family I love Chinese. This dried up chicken is nothing even close to Chinese. They put far more effort in decor and the white kids outfit than actually making food. It was overpriced for the food quality. Not at all authentic. Would not recommend this to my dog. I am shocked that people actually go here. read more

We've eaten here twice, and it's now our favorite restaurant in town. We love the food. I'm a big fan of General Tso's chicken, and they have the best version I've ever tasted.
