    banchan

Everyone said this place has the best banchan and they were right. Everything else was delicious, too. They currently require reservations, so be sure to call ahead. I had dinner on a Friday and it was fairly busy but service didn't lag. We actually received our dishes really quickly. We split a kimchi jeon (pancake), fried mandu (dumplings), and the banchan, of course. The jeon was huge and so perfectly crispy with lots of scallions and kimchi inside. The mandu were perfect (four for an appetizer order). I got the bulgogi ddukbaigi and my friend got the dolsot bibimbap. Both came out sizzling and smelled amazing. They tasted even better. The bulgogi ddukbaigi is sitting in the marinade/sauce rather than being "dry" over rice like regular bulgogi. It comes with a side of white rice. I really loved everything here and will return again to try more off their menu. One of the best Korean meals I've had in Rochester!

I received great service! Although I went by myself, a reservation for two or more people is necessary. The food was served quickly, hot, and it tasted delicious! While the interior seems to be in an older condition and could use a refresh, the quality of the food surpasses the look and feel.

The side dishes are called banchan and with a seafood pancake make a tasty start to the meal. All are meant to be shared.

Nestled between some industrial buildings, Young's is our favorite Korean restaurant in town. They have chosen to cope with the pandemic complications by seating your party only if you have reservations, so the few employees can maintain good service. We were greeted and seated immediately and our server was able to be attentive to our needs. A pair came in while we were dining and were turned away with a polite explanation that two reservations were coming in shortly. The banchan dishes are fresh and varied; tofu, kimchi, seaweed, broccoli and a potato were identifiable! Favorite entrees are bulgogi and very spicy pork bulgogi, served sizzling. Seafood pancakes and dumplings are good too. Consistently tasty.

Want Korean food?! Head to Young's. Only turn off is the charge for using a credit card, 4%!! I know it can be tough for a small business to survive but unfortunately you need to get with the times, most people don't carry cash with them. Staff here is always friendly & you can go here & usually not have to wait. Staff is friendly but speaks limited English which doesn't make a difference. It looks like some nights they do karaoke but I have never been there to witness this. I love all the side dishes they offer but the seaweed is on the stronger side so be prepared for that flavor. Their Kimchi is amazing with is flavor & crunchiness. Pajun here is out of this world! The batter is perfect & vegetables are always fresh. Bul gogi is flavorful even with the thin slices of meat & the rice is always cooked to perfection. Bibimbob comes in the stone hot pot with the egg yolk nice & runny for you to mix together. Rice gets all crunchy at the bottom of the bowl which makes it even better. All staff is Korean including your chef so you know its the good stuff. Come here to enjoy the food just bring the cash unless you don't mind the fee.

The word Homestyle cooking cannot be further than the truth. If you want an old school no frills place reminescent of the 80's and 90's that serves food that your next door oh ba san would make after school, then this is the place. It's not flashy and food isn't super sharp tasting, at times flavors taste a little too old (as if though warmed up or stewed too long), then this is the place. There are really only 2 Korean restaurants in this Eastern Rochester area, and if you need your Korean food fix, this will get you the taste. It's not the best Korean food I've had, since I come from Atlanta, nor is it the cheapest, but it will do. 3.5/5 stars round up to a 4 since they are doing their best to maintain authentic without any americanization. Food: we ordered a tofu soup- it was nonspicy and it was tofu and "clam" soup. We also got the beef bibimbap in the hot pot. Came with banchan (korean side dishes that come with main meal). We also got the fried ice cream. Banchan: Typical banchan-- a thing of kimchi, cucumbers in chili paste, tofu slices (firm type not soontofu and it was warm compared to this dish usually cold), tofu fish cake, and a couple of other things. Banchan is 4.5/5. Bibimbap: This was well done- the ingredients were good and the flavors were authentic. Nothing wrong with this dish- it all felt a little "stale" in my opinion as if though it had been sitting in the fridge and rewarmed, but homey lacking that crisp and fresh feel that bibimbap really should have. I recommend this dish. 4/5 $10.75 for this dish- alright price. The tofu soup- was not too impressed with this dish unfortunately. The tofu was the firm type that I had never had before in Korean food. most korean food serve their hot soups with soon tofu- the silken kind that usually come with korean food. There was only 1 clam in the whole soup... and it was a soup all uncut scallions and not much substance. I felt we overpaid for a dish that had a good broth, 4-5 pieces of tofu, 1 clam, and lots of scallion strips. I do not recommend this dish but the flavor was otherwise good. 2/5 for this. 11.50$ too much for this. Fried ice cream was good- had a thai donut feel on the outside and a matcha green inside. Ice cream wasn't melted and donut was still thoroughly cooked outside. 4/5 on this one. Service- we were the only ones here so we got undivided attention, but I heard that they can have long waits if they get crowded due to uncoordinated waiting efforts among the staff.

As much as I wanted to give 4 stars, I went with 2 star and it had to do with the service, the cook and the whole process from the time I went it to the time when I left after my meal. This place is located in/around industrial area, got lost, so had to do a U turn and finally found the place, parked and walked in. As much as I liked to be welcomed by Korean food smell, it looks like their ventilation systems needs some work. The older lady that managed the front never greeted me, just asked me how many in my party, I said 1 in English and was told to wait 20 minutes. As I sat in the old couch, I noticed something odd in how they operated... the place was 3/4 full, plenty of open tables, so was bit lost as to why I was asked to wait 20 minutes but whatever. After few minutes, a couple came in and they were told it'd be 30 minutes. But, 2 minutes after the couple came in, two large groups walked in and they were seated right away, okay I started to get mad. Then I realized why they were seated right away, they either knew the owners or made reservation, ok whatever! As I sat there, I observed and this is what I noticed in how they operated the restaurant. 1. Customers are seated, menu given, hot tea/water brought out. 2. The waitress does not check back with the customer for 10 minutes, during this time, they are bringing food for other tables. 3. After 10 minutes, they go back to the table, take the order, then instead of heading to the kitchen with the order, they walk around the dining room, check on the tables, then like 5 minutes later, they enter the kitchen. 4. You get your food, then ask for a bill when you are done eating, it takes them 5 to 10 minutes to get you a bill. Then even if you drop your credit card on the bill, they leave the bill and your credit card on the table and walk away. They come back about 5 minutes later, take your bill and your credit card, process the bill and come back. The above is how they managed all the tables. I also realized why they told me and the couple to wait. Rather than seating us, they waited until few tables cleared up, cleaned up the table, then seated us. The whole process seems outdated, but looks like it works for them, but unfortunately, I didn't feel welcomed at all from the moment I walked into the restaurant. After being seated, the younger waitress brought me cold ice water, then the older waitress brought me water, surprised there was water on the table, she walked away... I already knew what I wanted, so when the younger waitress came back, I ordered the following in Korean. - Jjajangmyung - Spicy Squid Bokkum The order was written down, then few minutes later she came back and I was told the cook did not have time to cook jjajangmyung, gave me a menu and walked away. I didn't see her for 5 minutes, but by this time, she brought my spicy squid and banchans. I said, can you give me jobchae instead of Jjajangmyun and was told the cook was making the jjajangmyung and took away the menu. I was so baffled by the whole experience, I was taken back. Bachans - they were decent, nothing special, expected to be a lot better, but acceptable. Spicy Squid - bit salty, but goes very well if you eat it with rice. It seems they stir-fry the item for few minutes as the onions were still undercooked. I would recommend this dish. Jjajangmyung - surprisingly this dish was good. I would definitely order this dish again, the fact that the cook made this in less than 5 minutes and it was this good, I was surprised. The food was good and definitely I would revisit if I'm in town again. However, the service, the attitude of the cook and the whole process threw me off!! This is not how you run a restaurant, but if it works for them, by all means continue, but seriously they need to revamp their front room operations. To those two ladies working the front, I wish them well, I know they are working hard, but they need help, I hope the owners (or the family that runs it) really think about hiring another person to work the front.

    Jjajangmyun

The service was not ideal- we felt very rushed to order even though we were a big group of like 10 people. We were also eventually asked to leave after about an hour because they were closing for a bit? It was strange. The portions were small for the cost especially the ttukbokki. Flavors weren't bad- also if I remember correctly there is some portion added on if you pay with credit so bring cash if you wanna avoid paying an extra few bucks (on top of the already relatively expensive food).

    NakJi-BokUm
    Marissa N.

Yeah for Unofficial Yelp Events. The banchan was really crisp and vibrant. Their seafood and vegetable pancake had a great smattering of ingredients. I ordered the NakJi-BokUm, it was very flavorful and spiced well enough but not offensively. I would definitely order the dish again. I tried the pork and beef bulgogi, the pork was much better, a bit caramelized and seasoned more. I also sampled the Chicken Katsu, some of the table thought it was too sweet, I liked the light coating and semi-sweet light sauce. Thanks Jen C for posting pics of the menu.

I met a fellow yelper there recently for the first time sitting down in the restaurant. In the past I'd only ever ordered take out which was always good. Sitting down and eating was much better. For a weekend, they weren't too busy, which was a little discouraging, but I'll blame in on a rather cold and blustery weather we had.
