Ordered take-out from Chopsticks at 2pm today. It was ready well before the 30 minutes allocated by their website. Chopsticks had included a fork, napkins and the small packets of sauces without being asked. When I arrived at my hotel room and opened the weighted take-out bag, I was surprised to see a large bowl instead of the usual cardboard box for my Szechuan chicken. The accompanying rice was in a box though. The Szechuan chicken was super-hot in temperature and extra spicy as ordered. Normally, when you ask for extra spicy the restaurants are fearful to actually make it so. Maybe it was the double extra, extra that clued them in. But it normally does not work for others. The Szechuan chicken had a lot of vegetables (green/red peppers, mushrooms, broccoli, baby corn cobs) that make me feel better about eating Chinese food. The vegetables were not only abundant but fresh looking and cooked thoroughly. There was also plenty of white strips of chicken to enjoy with all those vegetables. My only negative was that for it to be that piping hot, it had to be microwaved. Not sure if it was done in a wok earlier and then reheated, but that is my assumption. I am in search of good egg rolls. I travel frequently and like to try different Chinese restaurants in different cities across the U.S. Good egg rolls are very difficult to find. They are either too greasy, insufficient filling, or just lacking flavor. These were not greasy at all. So not greasy I found myself wondering if they used a convection oven/ air fry oven. A+ for that, but C grade for the filling. The filling did not have much flavor overall and with the shell being dry, the filling needed moisture. Oh well, the search continues. They do have seating for around 50 people and it appeared clean from my brief exposure to the restaurant. The woman at the counter was friendly and spoke perfect English. The price for the food was fine, not too expensive and not cheap. I would return to Chopsticks to try out other items next time I am in Rochester. read more

I was in the area and was recommended this place. I liked it. I had the Wonton Soup, it was ok. The broth had flavor with two wonton. No green onion or any greenery or shredded roast pork. The Shrimp Spring Rolls, crispy, mostly vegetables stuffed. The Roast Pork over Rice was the best. Thinly sliced Siu Yuk over Rice and some vegetables. The meat was tender and tasty. Just arrived to Rochester NY... searching for comfort food and stumbled into this Chinese restaurant across our hotel. Pleasantly surprised with the food. We ordered curry chicken and eggplant with garlic, egg roll and wonton soup. With fried rice. Food looked appetizing and delicious. Service was awesome, Connie was very friendly and accommodating. Ambiance ... what can I say, it's simple clean and modestly decorated. I like that it's not too much wall hangings. Tables were neat and clean. Very unassuming location tucked behind Delmonico and TGIF giants- you wouldn't see it coming down East Henrietta. Chopsticks reminds me of someone's kitchen- very homey feeling, which I think adds to the humble and authenticity of its food. I am always wary when places look too decorated and stereotypical Chinese buffet style. Food portions large and reasonably priced. Some items you'd think would be cheaper like scallion pancakes but if you order any of the rice plates, portions are big. Service is by younger folk so they speak both Chinese and English. Customers usually Chinese. If you like noisy and club like scene, do Revolution. If you like pricy Americanized Chinese in a strange formal setting, do Red Sun. If you like acceptible Dim Sum, do Canton House. If you want good noodle soup, Han Noodle Bar with good pork buns. White Swans and Flavors Of Asia are a little fushion Chinese but still good. If you want no frills good cheap authentic Chinese eats, do Chopsticks. When you sit down, there's the paper chinese zodiac place mats, a normal menu (overwhelming if you don't know what you want or are not familiar with Chinese dishes), and a random paper menu of handwritten Chinese characters in markers. Frankly if you don't know what to get, go straight to the rice plate options. You get a good portion and a side of rice, so you don't get stuck with a giant chefs choice option. The rice platters are half the cost and more approachable. Dishes mostly authentic but you'll still find the stir fried veggies and and chop suey saucy options. Appreciate their vegetarian options though like Buddha's Delight. Get the spicy potatoes. Good spicy dish. Tofu buns were a little odd but creative. Chow fun was good and their Buddha's delight was good too. Nothing bad on their menu. Sometimes they will randomly ask if you want their green bean warm dessert. If you've never had and not used to sweet beans, may want to pass but it's super comfortable on the belly after a salty chinese meal. read more

My sister who doesn't like spice said it was delicious even though it was too spicy for her. But she kept eating it because it was so good. My sister got the beef lo mein. The food was packed in a berry flat which made it hard to fit into the car but all traveled well. Overall food was flavorful but to garlicky. Everything left a garlic after taste. I had no idea this restaurant was located in this large plaza that I drive past all the time. Unassuming and to the side, it is a whole in the wall place. We were immediately seated upon arrival (bonus points for lots of ice in the water). Menu is standard but a bit pricey (I believe it does reflect the rising price of gas, groceries, and overall inflation right now). I tried three dishes (beef brisket in brown sauce noodle soup, chef's special szechuan style fish filet and happy family). The beef brisket noodle soup ($15) was a bit pricier than I was expecting, but portion was huge! The beef brisket was generously portioned, tender and flavorful. The soup base was a bit disappointing (more so a soy sauce and oil flavor and less spice). The chef's special szechuan style fish was decent; it was more in a soupy base than a spicy oily base though and I wish there was a bit more mustard greens in it. The Happy Family was tasty but had much more meat that seafood. It also came in a brown sauce rather than the clear sauce I'm used to but I enjoyed the flavor. I asked about the specific dish and again she helped me choose. I got a basil shrimp Thai dish that was fabulous--full of high quality vegetables, loaded with shrimp--the best Thai food I've had in a long time. I do believe they re-attached aforementioned stick to her ex husband and then he went into adult movies. I do believe the reason for the "severing of ties" and "chopping of sticks" was spousal abuse. It's a pretty strange world, isn't it. What to get: anything off the authentic Cantonese menu. I didn't absolutely love the food here, I asked what the best Cantonese soup was and they recommended the Beef w/noodles, so I went for that, and despite asking for it to be extra extra spicy it was pretty bland. The noodles were just okay, there was a bunch of grizzly fatty beef that tasted just okay, and a few nice green veggies mixed in there. It wasn't spicy at all. On the other hand, I do think it's great that there's a place selling authentic Chinese food in these parts, and you should go and check it out for yourself because you might find some much more delicious authentic dishes on their menu than I did. I'd avoid the broths just because to me they're a little bland, but I'd definitely try something else another time. What's more, the prices are good (well under $10) and the portions are huge (I still have three quarters of my meal in the fridge and I got pretty full off the quarter I ate), and the customer service is really lovely. The kid working here is a very nice kid... it's comfortable and clean inside... the waiting of tables if you eat in is really lovely. And they had no problem with me using outlets, which after just getting yelled at for the same thing at People's Choice, made a nice change. Take advantage of, and enjoy, one of the few authentic Chinese options in the 585 or indeed, in Western NY. It's not on the level of 716's equivalent (Peking Quick One), but for authenticity, excellent service, price, portion size, this place gets a thumbs up from me. read more

Walked in ordered the sesame chicken lunch special with an egg roll and an order of pork fried rice and was out with my food in under 10 minutes, which was great. Got back to the office and dug right in. The sesame chicken was good, but nothing that special. The fried rice included with the lunch was blah at best and the egg roll really wasn't that good. According to reviewers, this place offers authentic fare as well as 'Americanized' items. We were both pleased with our meals. I tried the garlic shrimp and my husband had the General Taos chicken. The serving sizes were large and my leftovers the next day were very flavorful. I have a feeling that our experience would have been better if we'd ordered the chef's specials. We got our food to go, but noticed several college students hanging out within the restaurant. The atmosphere leaves much to be desired and I personally wouldn't feel comfortable dining in - as this was simply "not my cup of tea." It's a good option for dinner if you're in the area. It's never been too crowded. They have a couple tables and ~5 booths. In all honestly, if this restaurant was in the middle of Chinatown in Manhattan, San Fran, or a closer city like Toronto, it wouldn't last fifteen minutes. However, since it's in the Chinese food hinderland that is Rochacha, Chopstix gets a high rating because it seems like the only Chinese restaurant around that tries to get it right. Chopsitx does have the Chinese-American take-out cuisine, but you'd be missing a lot if you didn't go to the "back of the menu", which contains a bunch of Hong Kong-style dishes. They have roast duck, chicken, and barbequed pork with rice. Plus they have other rice/noodle dishes like Singapore chow mei fun, shrimp with scrambled eggs on rice, and the more ubiquitous beef chow fun. The dim sum there isn't all that great and I think there's probably a better place or two around. If you can't make it out to New York City or Toronto, this can hold you over. I walked in with low expectations, but came out pleasantly surprised. Admittedly, I am a Chinese food snob who usually waits until i'm back in Toronto for Chinese food. Somehow Chopsticks has made it into my take-out rotation (yes, I get take-out a lot). With that said, I've ordered the same dishes every time: Beef Chow Fun and Stir Fry Green Beans with Black Bean sauce. Two staples in Cantonese cuisine that I have grown up eating. Out of all the Chinese restaurants in Rochester, Chopsticks does these dishes the best. I've had similar, but more forgettable dishes at Han Noodle Bar and Chen's Garden. The stir fry wok flavor really shines here. The same "wok hay" that was missing at my Han Noodle's visit was ever so plentiful at Chopsticks. They manage to achieve a lot of flavor without being too oily or salty. Portions and prices are reasonable. I imagine their other stir fry dishes should be good as well. For now, I haven't found the need to experiment - I really like these two dishes! Some of my friends ordered more "Americanized" dishes (ie. chicken lo mein, beef and broccoli) and weren't as impressed as I was with my dish. It's not wow! Change my world kind of Chinese food, but definitely sets some kind of standard for other Chinese restaurants around town. Good prices for good size servings. I always have leftovers to have lunch the next day. Also, beef noodle soup remains one of my favorite. If you get a combo plate, their fried rice is also really good. I don't like the fact that many of the soups taste like each other. I'm pretty sure my beef noodle soup and wonton soup were the same broth. It's old, but not very unique in that sense. Chopsticks or Chopstix? What's in a name? Whatever the name is, I'm glad I checked Yelp out the other night while I waited to pick my daughter up from MCC. I knew she would be hungry after a long day of school , drivers ED and SAT prep class. I read the reviews and popped over to Chopstix (or Chopsticks) after I picked her up. My daughter loves Chinese food, especially Sesame Chicken. Her favorites so far have been Ming's, Chen Garden and Royal Wok (in Victor). I can now add Chopstix (or Chopsticks?) to the shortlist. Not her favorite, but it was, in her words, Koala-Tea. Service was fast! When we arrived home with our food everything was still piping hot.
