This is my favorite Chinese restaurant in Idaho falls. I've only seen one lady server and she works her butt off! She can manage the whole room by herself and she can remember your order without writing it down. The food is cooked fresh , so don't be in a hurry. Goodness takes time. I love the egg flour soup. The prices are reasonable. Very yummy !

We love the Yummy house. Food is always delicious and service as well. Their hot and sour soup and the wontons are both top shelf!

Went out to lunch with my mom for the lunch special soup was good and my broccoli beef was good though today was one of those days when the meat would crave me more vegetables and lo mein noodles than finish the meat. Mom had the Curry Chicken it was mild and made her crave rice even with the chop suey. The lady to sat me to our table was kind and I can tell hard working. All in all, we had a nice and pleasant time. We even ordered to go.

You have to hope your food will be good when the person leaving as you walk in says, "This is the best restaurant in Idaho Falls". And honestly, Yummy House is definitely in our Top 3. Who knew this place would be such a gem? Yummy House is a great place for good food and conversations. Both your and everyone else's. When we dined in, it was a full house and we could hear everyone around us. Our waitress was very friendly despite the busyness and did a great job making sure no one was left waiting for drink refills. The star of the show was definitely the food. My fiancé and I loved the General Tso's Chicken! It had a great crunch without the chicken itself being dry and the sauce was packed with flavor. My egg flower soup was good -- I added a dash of salt and some pepper -- but that's how I grew up eating it. The BBQ Pork Hong Kong Chow Mein was yummy too! I love crispy noodles so I order it every chance I get. The pork itself was a tad dry so I'll probably try the House Special version next time. We also ordered beef & broccoli. Which, surprisingly, was our least favorite dish but it was still tasty! The only downside -- we tried to dine in last Friday and walked in around 8:30pm and were told the restaurant closed at 8pm. It was such a bummer because the menu and Google Maps said 9:30pm. If you're looking for a place to dine a little later, I'd recommend calling first to verify hours. Compared to the other Chinese restaurants in town, Yummy House takes the cake! I highly recommend checking it out.

Steamed Pork Buns. Their BBQ Pork Buns are also supposed to be good.

IDAHO FALLS DINING VARIETY CHALLENGE: Having moved here from Boise, we realize the variety of dining opportunities could be smaller. We hope to show there are many 4-5 star restaurants of various cuisines to be enjoyed as we experience them ourselves. CHINESE: We have not found a "great" Chinese restaurant for us for years. Probably since last century... ;) They've all tended toward bland (or artificially hot) American variants. We found Mandarin House in Pocatello, but that's a bit far to go. Found this gem in downtown Idaho Falls - yes, they do a lot of "standard American/Chinese", but they have some great offerings that are more authentic, and if you convince them you don't want "standard fare", they get excited to show what they can really do. The first presentation: their Beef Brisket in Clay Pot - this was truly amazing. While warning us that "it has fat in it, a lot of people don't like that", our enthusiastic "yes, please" helped in the convincing that we wanted the flavor. On their white board were both dry fried string beans and steamed pork buns - we were recommended and had both (the duck was tempting though). Lots of food, and lots to take home - I meant to review Yummy House before, but got entangled in a trip. We went again today, and deliberately went "standard lunch" (still, with a request to direct us to somewhat authentic), and had Beef with Black Bean Sauce and Kung Pao Beef. I wanted to sample the hot/sour soup and their crab rangoon as well. Not as good as the first time, but didn't expect it to be. Hot/Sour soup was subtle and non vinegary, the crab rangoon was really good (even with me not being a crab rangoon advocate). As to the more standard dishes - the Beef with Black Bean Sauce won the day for us. We plan to come back again very soon and we will be moving back to less "standard American fare".

Food/Taste/Flavor: 5/5 - Beef Brisket in Clay Pot (B11) was great in flavoring and texture for the beef. The sauce was thicker than expected but good nonetheless. Unfortunately had a piece of plastic in the dish Hong Kong Style Seafood Chow Mein (soft noodles) was good. The noodle itself is dry so you do have to mix the sauce in which was slightly difficult with a full plate. Generous with the calamari but only 3 pieces of scallops Young Zhou Fried Rice was great. Slightly more salty and wished there were slightly more pork pieces but the fried egg was done well Ambience: 4/5 - well air conditioned. Rustic feel with warm lighting and some traditional decoration. The wall is vinyl bricks and you can notice the edges since it's not uniformed Service: 5/5 - understaff with only one worker who runs around trying to help everyone. She's taking orders, serving food, getting checks and to go box. Super friendly but pretty loud Value for price: 4/5 - pricey for some of the dishes but good food overall

Always great, consistent food and service! I get the Mongolian beef linch and my wife gets the Mongolian chicken.

    Jac S.

Not much meat in food lots of vegetables. Not even Asian vegetables. 50% celery, 25% meat, 25% other vegetables. Guess what the dish tasted like? Celery. Why is this place rated so high? Has nobody in Idaho had Asian food before? The cashew chicken is not the sweet type brown sauce and more like Laos style cashew chicken. Which might have still been okay, but celery. Why they didn't do bean sprouts, other red peppers, bok Choy, or spring onion as vegetable fillers I'll never know. You can buy those at WinCo. Meat wantons were alright. Unseasoned Chicken breast at the center.... Butterfly shrimp... same as Red Lobster. Nothing to write home about.

Sizzling hot and delicious Beef Brisket in Clay Pot.

Very surprised at how good dinner was at the Yummy House Chinese restaurant. Service was truly exceptional. They were very busy and I was amazed that they could handle all the diners so well. Some very hard working people here. Also very friendly and helpful in explaining the menu. Highly recommend the chicken wings (have never had chicken wings at a Chinese restaurant before but they were fantastic). Also had the beef brisket in clay pot and it had delicious authentic Chinese flavors.

I tend to like authentic chinese, and this place is indeed american chinese, but I thought I'd give it a shot. There were a lot of menu items I avoided - I knew I wouldn't like anything that screamed american chinese, but I found they had hot pots and a few spicy dishes that I might prefer. I said I wanted their spicy beef - extra spicy (the hot pot I wanted to try as was). When asked "1 to 10?", I said definitely 10 - as hot as you'll go. Well, it arrived at what I would call a 2, and barely that. But they were very good at bringing out some chili paste, and that made it a very nice medium spiced dish. Both dishes were very tasty, and I told my spouse I would be quite willing to come again, especially since it is just across a street from out business mailbox.

Knowing we would get home way too late to start cooking, I googled for Chinese restaurants, and this one came up on my phone with good reviews (note, on my computer the reviews were only 3.0, but on the phone, they were over 4). The menu was very small, and a little on the expensive side, but we already walked in, and wanted to get going home, so we decided to order rather than try and find another place to pick up food. BIGGEST MISTAKE! We both love spicy food, so I ordered the Spicy Hot Diced Chicken (Diced chicken, mushrooms, bamboo shoots, water chestnuts, green peppers, celery and green pear). and my boyfriend ordered the Spicy Hot Pepper Beef (Choice sliced beef with green peppers, onions, mushrooms, bamboo shoots in spicy hot sauce). We each ordered the small fried rice, mine with no pork. Where do I start? Neither one of the descriptions say carrots, but both had them (mine diced, his julienned). Mine was supposed to have bamboo shoots and green pears, instead it had peas and almond slices. The pieces of chicken were not diced, but the veggies were (not a complaint, but definitely not as described on the menu!) They were both supposed to be spicy, but the only flavor, let alone spice, was the crushed red pepper. Now lets talk about the fried rice. To start, we ordered small fried rice, as that was described to us as what would normally come with a meal, rather than a larger fried rice, which usually is it's own meal. Small is an understatement. I wish we had measured it before putting it on the plate, because if it was a third of a cup, I would be surprised. There was absolutely NOTHING fried about this rice. It was white rice, with scallions and a little scrambled egg (and pork in my boyfriends as ordered). No soy sauce, no veggies, no flavor, whatsoever. Because the portion was so small (it did not come with any other white rice), we will need to make more to finish the amount of food that came with the dinner portion of the meal. Fortunately someone knew that there was no flavor in their food because they put enough Soy Sauce in the bag to drown out the taste of just about anything. I also ordered a side of Spring Rolls, which is 6 of the smallest fried dough with barely any veggies in it. I chose to snack on one in the car, and it was horrible. I thought maybe I would try a second dipped in the duck sauce- MISTAKE! My bad because the car moved, and I spilled some on my hand, but it was HOT, and I totally burned the palm of my hand. Who serves HOT DUCK SAUCE? YUCK! I truly feel bad (or envy?) all of the people that wrote reviews indicating this is amazing Chinese food, because they clearly have never tasted good Chinese food. The best part of the meal? The pre-packaged fortune cookie. Literally the only thing that tasted like Chinese food should.

Deciding to reassess, we chose Canton for "Lunner" (late lunch). You wouldn't be able to guess this by the somewhat tacky yellow and red faded banner sign on the outside--the place is beautiful! Tastefully decorated with delicate pieces masterfully placed. Despite the decor's fragile appearance, the surroundings and soothing cultural, instrumental tunes boldly lullaby the visitor into a serene state. I can't say enough how beautiful and peaceful this place is. I just, was really impressed. The inside is spacious, offering lots of seating for nearly any sized party, and the design creates distinct semi-private dining areas. We were greeted promptly by a tall young man who presented with a very confident, nearly commanding presence. He showed us to our table, and took our drink orders. While my other half got herself a diet soda, I stuck with water. I drink a lot of water. Sitting there with our drinks gave us a few minutes to look at the menu, which is literally a book. Now, the "why?" started coming back to me. Here we are with several, I mean several pages to select from--but it seemed so few options. One of many examples is soups. Even what is typically offered as an option of a cup or bowl, such as my favorite, Hot and Sour, is only available as a bowl. What if not everyone in your party wants the same? Large enough to feed three, the bowls are priced that way too. Our server approached our table quietly to check on us. She was such a sweet woman. If she were any sweeter, I'd have a cavity now. Soft spoken with a soothing sort of patience, she politely and quietly made certain of what we were asking before answering. When we asked her if we could get different sides with the dishes we chose--the realization of "why?" just kept coming. I say it again, with the utmost emphasis, she is a delightful server. However, ordering was a chore. The total confusion on our server's face proved: They are required to know the exact menu, but understanding the concept of options is not a requirement here. I mean, not having clear swap-out options is almost like being a child whose parents say, "You'll eat what you're served." I wanted something, and my other half wanted something else. With all of the dishes being sized to share, the both of us wound up with plates too big to finish, and sides that weren't preferable. The single flavor on my plate of Mongolian Chicken--was very good. She said the same about her Lemon Chicken. The food here is very good. I don't imagine my issues with this place would be a problem for many visitors. It comes down to: I've been around this nation, and spent a lot of time in California--I am spoiled on that Cali-Frisco, customizable American-Chinese Cuisine for one. Canton is a beautiful place, with gracious service, and tasty food. We agree and won't be back 4*.
