My first visit - my spouse told me I needed to come try out this basically hole-in-the-wall chinese restaurant. I tend to like authentic chinese, and this place is indeed american chinese, but I thought I'd give it a shot. There were a lot of menu items I avoided - I knew I wouldn't like anything that screamed american chinese, but I found they had hot pots and a few spicy dishes that I might prefer. I said I wanted their spicy beef - extra spicy (the hot pot I wanted to try as was). When asked "1 to 10?", I said definitely 10 - as hot as you'll go. Well, it arrived at what I would call a 2, and barely that. But they were very good at bringing out some chili paste, and that made it a very nice medium spiced dish. Same great quality for the 12 years I've been eating here. The egg drop soup is really something special. It is super thick and a lot of shredded chicken. The veggie spring rolls are a delicacy. It's winter time and soups are comforting to me. This soup is very tasty. The broth is rich and savory. The noodles are very good. The seasonings were definitely Chinese. It seemed to me the chef tried to make a complex and tasty soup. I only had one issue with this soup. The beef was somewhat tough. Some of the beef was tough enough I could not eat parts of it. But it was tasty beef. The beef noodle soup was good enough I would order it again. The restaurant was clean. The service was very good. I didn't have to wait for water refills and was offered a take out container when I was half finished because I ate slowly and had taken my time. The server was trying to meet my needs and I appreciated that. The price was reasonable for the large bowl of soup. read more

Got the family diner combo a, it's was a lot of food for 2 people. Had a Togo box to enjoy later. The fried pork pot stickers and egg drop soup were fire, as was the sweet/sour chicken and the rice. Didn't care for the almond chicken but that's due to my being picky about all the different stuff in it. Pork and seed was different, never heard of it before but I did find it to be alright. New to the area, and looking for a good Chinese restaurant. This was NOT it. There was a party that was just wrapping up and leaving. There was only one person to take payments, answer phone orders, handle take-out orders, and serve customers seated at the restaurant. There were only four other people in the restaurant when we sat down. Had to wait 15 minutes before our order was taken. We had been there for an hour before we received our food. The Pork fried rice was literally steamed white rice w/bits of pork, a small amount of scrambled egg, and some green onion. Absolutely NO flavor. The beef w/broccoli also fell flat, with little savory flavor. The chicken chow mein just wasn't! I'm not sure what it was...it was not like any chow mein I have ever had...it had those short, hard & crunchy noodles (like La Choy brand in a bag), with a brown sauce, carrots, bamboo shoots, onion & celery bits. This dish was the most savory one of them all, but was missing the typical chow mein noodles. I noticed that the waitress brought out a huge plate of chow mein noodles to another customer, so perhaps she misunderstood what we ordered. The lemon chicken and sesame chicken dishes were identical: both had a sweet glaze sauce over crispy coated chicken. No difference in taste. The only difference between the two dishes, was that the "lemon" chicken had slices of lemon on top. This is the best Chinese food in Idaho Falls. A little bit ago my family ordered from 4 different Chinese joints around town, to see which one was best. We did not order from Main Moon. Long story short, they were all not great... We tried Main Moon today and it was fantastic!!! The service was nice and friendly (a bit hard to understand but it's all good!)! The restaurant appeared to be clean as soon as I walked in. However there was a sour smell in the air. Not sure if it was the food I was smelling or something else. As we walked back to the area we were seated in. I walked across an area of the floor that was squishy so I think they may have a leak under the floor. The food was mediocre. I ordered the lunch special of sweet and sour chicken with fried rice. It came with either soup or spring rolls. I got hot and sour soup which had the consistency of snot and had random unidentifiable crunchy bits in it. My mother ordered broccoli and chicken with fried rice and the hot and sour soup. She felt queasy after eating her food. We also ordered an order of egg rolls to share. The only thing that I could identify in the filling was celery. The egg rolls were almost burnt and super greasy and seemed to be fried in old oil. The only part I enjoyed was the fried rice. The waitress was very friendly and attentive. We will have to wait and see if I end up with food poisoning. read more

Breaded chicken or pork dishes with a sweet and sour sauce have been delish. Fried rice is actually flavorful. The egg flower soup is really flavorful as well and you can tell it's freshly made with real chicken, the broth is on the thicker side so it may not be for everyone but I loved it and think it's worth a try! The spring rolls are handmade and so are the wontons in the wonton soup. It's impressive! The server said that the family who owns the restaurant is legitimately in the kitchen prepping fresh vegetables and ingredients all day. It really is freshly prepared. read more

Can't give a zero or I would tonight! I called tonight at 6:15pm tonight...ordered 3 items and was told it would be 20-25 minutes. The last few times we've gone, we wait the time allotted, then go in and pay for the order and then wait that time told. Tonight was rare form. Placed order at 6:15, ordered at another Asian restaurant in town for my wife, went over got her food and then brought her food home and went to go get food at New Moon...it's now been 30 minutes since I ordered my three items. I get to New Moon and pay...and start a timer to see if my theory of waiting holds true. As you can see from my other picture, 33 minutes later I finally got my food. Horrible customer service. Twenty minutes I to my wait at the restaurant I went and commented on my dilemma. Absolutely no acknowledgement of their delay other than "we're busy". Hard to believe since only three tables were full. Tonight was and is my last patronage to New Moon. Too bad too, they were close to home and food was good. The worst Chinese I've ever had. The rice was half mush and have uncooked. The beef and broccoli had a white filmy goo all over it that my daughter could not stomach eating. The generals chicken was just sweet and sour chicken with red pepper flakes. The egg drop soup was a white cloudy jelly substance. It made all three sick for the rest of the day. I love Chinese food and each restaurant in Idaho Falls seems to have certain dishes they exceed at and others that may fall short. Main Moon seems to be no exception. I've found some dishes here that I really like and others that I would not order again. The few times I've been here, I've ordered the chicken Lo Mein, and love it. The decor and dine-in experience is certainly nothing fancy but many of the dishes are very solid and they seem to be consistent. I would encourage anyone to at least give them a try. read more

This is my favorite Chinese restaurant. It is great eating in or as take out. The decorations may be lacking, but they have some of the best service. There is a very sweet waitress who does a great job of taking care of our table each time we visit. I no longer live in Idaho Falls, but every time I visit my family in IF we go out to Main Moon. My favorite dish is the sweet and sour chicken and the general Tso chicken. The meal also comes with your choice of egg drop soup or 2 egg rolls. They are both delicious. My father has celiac disease and cannot have gluten. They have multiple menu items for him as well. read more

Huge portions could not make up for wonton soup that was completely bland and overly salty at the same time. The egg rolls were oddly battered and tasted of old oil.
