It would've been nice to have a heaping platter, to help offset the spiciness of our Mongolian beef! * the honey-walnut chicken was not real crispy as the sauce was a heavy, white cream-type sauce that made the batter soft. Finally decided to try this after many many years of hearing how it is the best Chinese food in Idaho Falls. Well, it wasn't for us unfortunately. The orange chicken was our least favorite of the dishes we ordered. It was a very fresh orange flavor and didn't seem fake or way sugary but at the same time the orange flavor of the sauce was much too bitter. The batter on both the pork and chicken dishes we ordered was crisp outside and mushy inside at the same time. Plus the "meat" was such a tiny amount in each dish. Fried rice was tasteless without soy sauce and they didn't include the egg drop soup(s) we ordered either. I will say the sampler appetizer platter was good but that was really the only thing we all loved. It could have been an off day but I won't try this place again to find out. I don't know what I'm thinking going to a Chinese restaurant in a small town(Idaho Falls). I looked on Yelp and this place had 4 stars. I looked at the menu and it looked promising. I was craving shrimp and this place had Honey Walnut Prawns. Prawns, not shrimp. I was excited! The server took my order and I ordered hot and sour soup with my prawns. The hot and sour soup was very spicy but also had an overly sweet flavor to it. The prawns came out shortly after and I was shocked at the presentation. 6 prawns drowning in a pool of honey walnut sauce. You could tell the prawns were precooked and sitting under a heat lamp. The temperature of the prawns were barely hot to lukewarm. When I bit into the breading, it was slightly soggy and was not crispy. As it sat in the pool of sauce, the soggier it got and the breading began to fall off. The pool of honey walnut sauce was way too sweet, even for me. And, there were only 3 walnuts!!!I wanted to try the Hong Kong Noodles over here but am a little weary because they can't even make this dish and hot and sour soup. I ordered three items. I got home before I realized the the god-awful orange chicken didn't even have the sauce on it and they failed to provide it. I called them and they ofered nothing for the error. I Took it back and asked for a refund and they gave me nothing. The rest of the items we ordered were far less than satisfactory. The staff was very friendly and responsive to our needs. I ordered #1 dinner, the sweet and sour chicken dinner and my wife had the #2 dinner, Generals chicken. Hot and fresh chicken , fried rice was good, lo menu had a weird sauce that I didn't like. The food was fresh and and wonderful. I took my family and we all thoroughly enjoyed the potstickers. They were crispy on the outside and soft and juicy on the inside. Just like the orange chicken. I'm Chinese and recently moved here in Idaho Falls. Reason for the move was because my partner has been hired by one of the hospitals to be a GI Specialist. Anyway, I was dubious of finding an authentic Chinese food in this town....until we stumble upon Chinese Garden at 17th and Woodruff. Food tasted authentic and it reminded me of my father's favorite Chinese restaurant in the Chinatown Manila, Philippines. You know, the ones with roasted ducks hanging on the glass display case. This isn't a review of their food, to each their own with preference on Chinese food. The problem is the hostess. A woman that has no regard for others in the restaurant that do not want to hear her conversations that she has on the phone. She goes into a back room, but talks at the top of her lungs, doesn't close the door, and puts whomever she's talking to on speaker for the world to hear. We were looking for a restaurant open on Christmas Day and had planned on going to Black Bear. We weren't willing to wait though and saw China Garden across the parking lot so we opted for them. They were only offering to go so we ordered food to take back to the hotel. It's obviously a family owned and operated business as confirmed when the young man went back to the kitchen yelling 'Mom' to ask if they could serve me something not on the menu. We ordered hot &sour soup, egg rolls, vegetables with garlic sauce, and steamed rice. Everything was delicious. The hot & sour soup had a nice bite to it and the vegetables were fresh and well cooked. We were impressed that the food was not over salted which Chinese food can be. Food was ready quickly. Just moved to town and wanted to try some local Chinese. Saw great reviews ,so we tried it. Everything was so yummy. We had the Mongolian beef and the combo. Everything was so fresh. The beef was perfectly cooked with the right amount of spice the pork fried rice amazing with real big pieces of pork, fried shrimp has the best batter ever and the mandarin chicken was so moist and fresh. If you dine in you get soup. We got wonton and wow there's magic in the broth. Best Chinese food I've ever had. Dining room was spotless, staff friendly. Thanks Chinese Garden. I've had Chinese food in some shady and cheap places, but I am truly taken aback by the lo mein here. The noodles are just spaghetti noodles and the sauce tasted like old, uncleaned oil. I truly would give them a 4.9 rating for every time they forget my sauces when ordering to go but regardless the flavors and food is great. Every dish is a different flavor ( unlike other Chinese restaurants in town) and it doesn't taste overly fried or greasy. I have had better chinese food that came from the frozen section of the grocery store. I ordered fried rice and it was like a little bit of rice to my soy sauce. It was so salty I ended up throwing it all away. I also had the Salt and Pepper shrimp, I am pretty sure these shrimp were on or just after the expiration date. Shrimp should not have that kind of strong fishy smell. It was like it had been sitting out in the sun for a few hours. I am not sure where all the good ratings come from but they obviously have no taste buds or they truly believe this is how it should taste. It was my first and LAST time ever eating here. read more

Excellent food at a very reasonable prices. We came for lunch and had there lunch specials. They have many choices to choose from and with choice of side (steam rice, fried rice, chow mein, lo mein) and soup (egg drop soup, hot and sour). I recommend the orange peel tofu dish with steamed rice. It's not a lunch special, but still very good. Crystal(our server) was excellent and very helpful. It's just not like good. The Mongolian beef tasted like it had taco seasoning in it. I've never tasted anything like it before. The fried rice was basically just old rice with soy sauce dumped on it. The egg drop soup tasted mostly of sesame seed oil. Just weird and not good. The service was the only thing that was good about this place. read more
