Stopped by James Joyce Irish Pub in Ybor and overall had a good experience. I ordered the French onion burger which was a great recommendation from the server ...that was definitely the highlight. Super flavorful and cooked just right. The fries are natural cut which I love. I also tried the chicken wings. I normally enjoy crispy wings, but these were fried a bit too hard for my liking. The server did mention they're still recovering from the Super Bowl rush, so some items were a little different than usual including wing size, which she said is typically bigger. I went with a vegan friend who really enjoyed their vegan burger, so it's nice to see solid options on both sides of the menu. This is a great place to visit when going to or from the Tampa airport. It is close enough to get there, but far enough away from the hustle and bustle of downtown or airport traffic. Also free parking for the first two hours.! I came for the craft beer selection, and was not disappointed. Chris, the bartender was quite friendly, and kept things moving across a busy bar. There was live music until about 7:30, when the football game started. My wife and I came on a Monday, so it was smashed burger night for nine dollars. It was a pretty good burger, and the fries were excellent. Will bookmark this place for the next time I fly in and out of Tampa. read more

We were wanting a beer didn't know where to go and we see "Big Country" The Leprechaun driving a golf cart. I stated we were looking for somewhere to get a pint he said "Hope in I'll take you to the place". James Joyce Irish Pub was the spot. We didn't get served the cute chick for whatever reason didn't bring silverware (I don't know why). It was probably just a misunderstanding. The beer selection was off the charts. Very crowded that night there was a wedding party there but a fun spot sing karaoke get a bite to eat. Bartenders they were quick to serve cool peeps. We were able to snag a table which was weird 1 waitress came grabbed 4 beer cups and never came back to clean the rest of the table but she passed by us a couple of time and just looked at the table. Anywho didn't like that but we ended up either an awesome waitress that took care of us completely liked her energy better. read more

Arteries are clogged. I expect my stomach to be making seriously questionable noises in about 30 minutes. BUT the burger was good. Fries were weird tasting. The burger was good because of the French onion flav, not because of the quality of meat. Was in town for a friends wedding and they had their welcome party here. Katie made our first round drinks and they were delicious. There were some bite size food served but we were HUNGRRRRYy from traveling for the first half of the day so we ordered the Jameson BBQ burger and it was DELICIOUS. The lettuce and tomato was fresh, the candied bacon and crispy onion gave the burger so much texture. I asked for medium rare and that's what I got! It was so good, I cut some up for my friend and I had never seen her made the face she made LOL. She was in awe of how great it tasted hahaah. Their fries were delicious too. My friend ordered waffles and chicken, the waffle was made well and the chicken wasn't dry so yay! Only thing we didn't like was the sangria on their menu, it tasted more like... kool-aid? It was odd since everything else was so good. The overall place had a pretty divey vibe, a lot of decor in the walls and dim lighting. I can see myself being a regular here if I lived in the area. Fun! Fun! Fun! I absolutely LOVE this place! Renny, the bartender, was everything -- funny, attentive, and an absolute hoot! The vibe here is unmatched. While we were there, a Floatie Bar Crawl was going on and it just added to the lively, unforgettable atmosphere. I really appreciated that they put on the England soccer game for me -- such a thoughtful touch while I enjoyed my food. I came specifically for the Scotch Egg, and wow, it did not disappoint -- absolutely delicious. Next up were the wings, and Renny came through with the perfect recommendation: garlic parmesan and mild buffalo sauce -- finger-licking good. Everything here is amazing. Besides it having the best bar food I've personally have ever had, the staff make you feel at home there. Great selection of Irish whiskeys and beers. After leaving a nearby venue on Labor Day, my group of friends and I were trying to decide where to go next (the closest brewery was closed) when we stood right near James Joyce (JJ) Irish Pub. We decided to stop in and see what it was like. While I cannot stand James Joyce, the author, this pub had all of the things I look for in a pub: a great bartender, pub ambiance, excellent pub food, and, of course, a wide array of beer and liquor. JJ Irish Pub first grabbed my attention with having a delightful sour beer on tap from Wicked Weed and allowed me to sample it before buying. I got to taste various food items my husband and my brother purchased. My husband got a mix of their Jameson honey wing and their Jameson BBQ wing that was fried hard and had good flavor. I loved my brother's shepherd's pie loaded tater tots. The beef was chunky, like slow-cooked pot roast, and there were veggies and mashed potatoes hiding right under the mound of meat. Our bartender, Chris, was more than attentive and even went as far as to play a song we were discussing (and didn't realize he was listening), which we thought was an act of synchronicity but was Chris :) Next time I am in the Tampa area, I will make sure to make my way to the JJ Irish Pub. read more

Came here tonight since we were in the area and wanted to try something new. I have never noticed this place before but was happy we found it by using our Craft Tapped. The vibe is very much Irish Pub with a Indy Rock spin. We ordered a Guinness shepherds pie tater tots. We ordered the whole order and quickly upon receiving it realized we could have gotten the half order and been just fine. It was a lot of food. The flavors were amazing and the large chunks of chuck roast were so tender and delicious. We then ordered a few beers from the 50 plus options. The staff were very friendly and helpful in helping us make our selections and we were quite happy to have found this place and will certainly be back. I will add that they do have a small parking lot that is free for patrons if you are lucky enough to score one of those. Can't wait to come back here again soon. read more

We've had wings, buffalo chicken sands and other food that was really good. However the fish and chips I had here recently was really bad. The fish was old, soggy and translucent. So glad we waited! 3 of us had the All American Burger and it was the best burger I have ever eaten anywhere!! We left no crumbs I swear! Very interesting atmosphere here. Seems like a popular place for lots of locals. We were drawn in by the great food reviews. It took a while to get a clean table and our server but the food was great! I tried the Buffalo chicken sandwich which was unique because it was a chicken patty instead of fried chicken which I much prefer. I wasn't a fan of the crispy onions on top which were actually quite soggy. I was disappointed that I had to pay for a side of ranch, because you would assume a sandwich like that would come with it. We've been here a few times. It's a mad house on St Patty's Day and on the weekends. So plan ahead. There is a small parking lot so plan on street or lot parking. Ybor is all pay for parking so plan ahead. The server Natasha, during the day is a hoot! She is so friendly and talkative, just makes you feel like you walked into her living room and she is serving friends. She is very lively, and extremely entertaining. I love this place. First of all..its super clean, it doesnt smell like cigarettes and their staff is great, diverse, smart and ..just the best. They have a good selection of beers, good vibes and good food. We have had the fries with cheese and all that good stuff. Half a portion was enough for 2 people. Next visit we had the Guinness tots which were great..so crispy and that gravy with meat was superb. We ordered the french onion burger and the jameson. The jameson is really good...great..but the french onion is SO simple but SO delicious that it was the favorite in our table. It felt like a hug...its a "gentle" taste ..not salty, not bland..just great. The fries ..they are good ! Even tho they dont seem like it..but they are.
