Haven't been here for a while and I have definitely missed it! Got to try the August menu and really loved the seared scallops with mushroom risotto. Shared the pomme frites as an appetizer with my mom and they were outstanding as usual. I think they have really got the recipe right from the original! I also could not resist the delicious warm bread, I especially love the salted butter. Service from Alec was wonderful as usual. You could tell he really planned out the dining layout for all his reservations and I was especially impressed with his wine knowledge. We had our Friendsgiving dinner celebration at Z Bistro last night. What a nice little charming restaurant! Our server was super friendly and very knowledgeable about explaining the menu and wine. My pork Schnitzel was very delicious and flavorful. Everyone else in our group enjoyed their food as well. The pumkin creme brullee and the homemade coffe ice cream was the cherry on top. The food is delicious. I had the swordfish, the lemon sauce was perfect. If I could have licked the plate I would have. My husband has the stuffed cabbage he was very impressed. Service was amazing. Googled creme brulee in Carson and this place pops up. If you don't know that this place exists, go!! We were greeted immediately as we walk in by the owner Brandon himself. He was very friendly and informative. He told us that his menu changes once a month and gets revamped with new items. That is such a clever idea. We went in simply for dessert. I was craving creme brulee and they had it. Coconut Creme Brulee: I have only ever had traditional creme brulee, but the coconut was a nice change. Amazingly silky texture and fantastic taste!! Chocolate Ice Cream: perfect creamy texture and tasted great. More like a dark chocolate flavor than regualar chocolate, which was a pleasant surprise. Just a nice warm place, with good and friendly service, and absolutely delicious food. The warm kale salad was probably the best I have eaten, anywhere. The sauce/dressing was complimentary and not overpowering and went with and enhanced the kale and the other ingredients. I will go back just for that! Was given a gift certificate from my daughter at Christmas and finally got to use it last night for my hubbies birthday. We started with the chicken satay which was tender and very tasty. He had the salmon and I had the cordon bleu which were both excellent. Finished the meal off with vanilla ice cream and I had the crème de brûlée. What a way to end this delicious meal. What a great place for an awesome meal. We started with the cucumber gazpacho and the caprese salad. Both were so tasty and good portions. You also get fresh french bread hot out of the oven with a tasty butter. Then we had the salmon and the halibut with bok choy, mushrooms and a creme sauce. Both were incredible and so full of flavor. We also had a bottle of Rose' from Provence. For dessert we had homemade ice cream with homemade chocolate sauce. If you are in Carson City you have to eat here. After reading previous reviews of Z-Bistro, I made reservations for this past Saturday, to celebrate my wife's birthday, along with our daughter who drove up from the Bay Area. The ambiance is very casual. We were a bit perplexed by the white paper covered tables and the small tin of crayons, but we found ourselves scribbling on the paper and had fun doing it! Alec, the owner(?)/maître d', was a lot of fun and very outgoing. His knowledge of their wines and what paired well with what, was excellent. After the appetizers, consisting of the crab cakes and pomme frites, my wife had the seared scallops with risotto, our daughter had the lamb French dip with pomme frites and I had the penne bolognese. Every dish was impeccably crafted and super tasty! For desert, we shared a crème brûlée (to die for). I finished it off with some expresso decaf in a French press. Tasty!!! We highly recommend the Z-Bistro, however I wish they would add escargot, Boeuf Bourguignon, Coq au Vin, Ratatouille, Nicoise Salad to the menu to complete the French dining experience. Chef Brandon did a great job tonight. We enjoyed a puff pastry artichoke appetizer and the French onion soup to start. Both were excellent. The Y3 Taureau Napa blend is delicious and went with both of our meals. The bison chili was very tasty and the chicken Marsala was delicious comfort food. We live in San Diego, but come to Carson City for family often, and on this trip we were saddened at the loss of so many of the good restaurants. Tonight, we decided to try Z Bistro. All I can say is that five stars aren't enough! Everything was amazing. First, the food...WOW! We started with the Duck Tacos, and we both agreed that they were the best tacos we have ever had. I had the Crab Cakes, and my husband had the Porchetta. The Crab Cakes were delicious, and the Porchetta reminded us why we love pork...it was divine. The service was outstanding (Thank you Alec!), and we loved meeting Chef Brandon and new Sous Chef Brian. Chef Brandon came out of the kitchen to make sure we were enjoying our meals, and it was delightful chatting with him. 10 outa 10 experience. The inside is intimate and warm. The service was prompt and so friendly (Alec was the nicest!) and the food was fantastic. It's definitely a nicer atmosphere but still family friendly as there are crayons on each table. The chef was very conscientious of my (who's also a chef) fiancés dairy allergy. We hardly even go to fancier places because we feel bad for the accommodations. However we were never made to feel it was a problem and everyone was so kind. I ordered a pork tenderloin with Brie cheese, apples and artichoke which was so good with cauliflower purée, mushrooms and a balsamic reduction with a greens oil of some kind. There was a lovely kick in the purée. My fiancé was able to get a dairy free salmon and mushroom asparagus risotto which he loved as he hardly ever is able to order a risotto. Hats off to the building the chef does as he cooks, fantastic work. Definitely will be back for April's new menu! read more

Chef Brandon nailed it! Mom and I stopped in for lunch, we had a delicious meal, enjoyed a couple items off the March menu, one of the specials, and even had dessert. This is a place you can bring anyone. Your partner or spouse for date night, your in-laws, lunch or dinner with friends. I was just thinking about our August 2017 dinner here and realized I hadn't written a review. Whoops! Z Bistro was our choice for dinner because of the gluten free options and the positive reviews. We ended up ordering quite a few different things (check out my photos!) and staying at the restaurant a bit later than even our wonderful waitress, who reminded me of my French cousin. 4 of us went to Z Bistro for dinner last night. I was very impressed with the food and service. For appetizers we had the beet tartare (the vegetable not beef) with a toasted bread, the spicy brussel sprouts and our friends had the mussels. Our friends said they could have just had the appetizer for their main course. My DH had the lasagna. He thought it was excellent and he is a bit of a lasagna snob. I had the Croque Madame, which was wonderful! The egg was perfectly cooked and it came with a mound of french fries. After having the appetizers I couldn't finish my fries after eating my sandwich. I have to say not being able to finish my plate doesn't happen to me very often. We also ordered their hard cider from France. It was very good and low alcohol, so a perfect aperitif. We also brought our owe bottle of wine and the corkage was only $12. The service was wonderful - it's run by a husband and wife team. Husband is back of house and wife is front of house. They do a great job. I will be back... although they do have limited hours so I suggest a reservation. read more

I went to Z bistro last week without reservations not realizing how popular this little gem is. Luckily there was room at the counter and we happily took that spot. Sitting at the counter is quite the experience, you get to see everything close and personal and boy did we ever! The chef is amazing along with his staff. He prepares and handles every dish and dessert with special attention. You will not find a can of whipping cream for your dessert here, even that is whipped fresh in their kitchen. Ingredients are all super fresh. Everything that comes out of that kitchen looks "Gourmet Magazine" picture perfect. And judging by what me and my special date ordered, it tastes just like it looks! My date had the seafood jambalaya and I had their rib eye steak, the steak is described a lot fancier than what I'm naming here but trust me, it's fancy and it's delicious! Their beer and wine selections are pretty special too. I'm not a wine person but had a glass with my meal. Not being a wine person did not intimidate me at Z Bistro because the staff is so awesome and knowledgeable at giving you suggestions on wine that pairs with your meal. They know their stuff here! I also had a couple of beers. A new discovery, oak barrel aged beer with hints of vanilla by Innis and Gunn. I was very impressed by Z Bistro. I'm super happy with their hard working staff. They made us feel welcome and very special. It's hard to get in, it's very busy with regular local customers. I highly recommend reservations! read more
