We didn't know what to expect, especially seeing a few right-leaning shirts at the tables around us. Noticing this place while on a road trip we wanted to try it out. Breakfast was priced at $10.99 on the website. We got two plus one coffee and with tip the bill was about $35. Didn't add up, but ok. I noticed a few comments here about the staff being rude. We didn't experience that. From the cashier to the people serving drinks and picking up plates, they were nice and helpful. The food was ok, not great, but good for the price paid. I mean, from the mountains of food people were putting on their plates I'm a little confused how they make a profit. As a vegetarian and diabetic I had limited choice. If you are a meat eater, about every breakfast meat you can imagine they had, even something called scrapple, which is a regional thing I guess. There was an omelette station too. There was a dessert bar also. My husband -who has a sweet tooth- got a blueberry pie type dessert and could barely eat it because it was too sweet. As a diabetic it was good to see they had sugar free syrup and one sugar free dessert. On the buffet I could only have the eggs, mushrooms and a few house breakfast potatoes- which were quite good. We got there a little after 8:30 a.m. and it wasn't super busy. There was no waiting in line. When we left 45 minutes later, there was a huge line. Overall happy we tried it out. If we lived here we may go back to try out lunch or dinner. This isn't gourmet food, and for the price paid you wouldn't expect it. If you go, enjoy it for what it is.

Did I like everything on the buffet, no, but I did find plenty that I did like. They have a hot bar, a salad bar, a specialty bar, and a bakery bar. Nothing there was terrible, nothing was inedible, as some reviews have hinted. Some I liked better than others and In fact I'd go as far to say it's probably one of the better buffets in the area. For all you can eat, the price was very reasonable. If you can't find enough good food that you like to eat here, you are way too uppity to be eating at a buffet. I'd definitely go back, and soon.

What a trip down memory lane with this one. It has been years since I have been to a Ponderosa…read moreSteak House. Actually over a decade. Since their numbers started dwindling and locations closing up for good, this looked like a brand that was going to be a forgotten brand. But there are a few that are still hanging in there. This location, I believe, is the last in Pennsylvania. To touch on memory lane again, this place holds a special place in the hearts of kids of the 80s and 90s. You all know what I mean. For those that don't, let me clue you in. If you happened to have perfect attendance for a grading period you would be awarded with a certificate that would allow you to enjoy the buffet at any Ponderosa location. It was the only good thing that came out of attending school when you were bored. You'd get to drown your sorrows in mashed potatoes and gravy because you were able to last every single day of school for that grading period. My brother and I were talking about stuffing our faces with countless rolls, wing dings, mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, etc. My whole plan for finishing my Christmas shopping at the outlets all hinged on us coming here for our meal. I clued him into to it and he was on board. Pulling up outside was like our White Castle moment. We made it to the promised land. The familiar looking building welcomed us right inside. We walked down the hallway that leads you to the counter and stopped at the menu on the wall for a minute. Who were we kidding looking over the menu when we already knew we were going to be getting the buffet. Placed our order with the staff at the register, about $16 for the buffet and water to drink. I wasn't going to be a fool and get a soda or tea and fill up with the bubbly in my tummy. When we were led to our table the memories kept coming back. That green carpeting, the wood grain everywhere, and the islands of buffets. We were sat nearly in the middle of the restaurant and our server took our receipts for our drinks and we were let free to attack the buffet. That is after I wrestled with my chair to get it to come out of from under the table. This was quite possibly the worst part about this place. The chairs were heavy, pair that with the carpeting being like Velcro made for moving the chairs really hard. So much so that the lady behind me actually tumbled with the chair trying to get up at one point. (Hope she's OK and nothing was hurt but her pride) The buffet had a mix of items that encompass the chain(s). There were the familiar wings, mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, stuffing, gravy, and so on from Ponderosa. But there were a few things spattered in from the Bonanza portion of this chain, Most notably, the BBQ meatballs. After spying everything the buffet had to offer I of course started with a salad. Topping it with just about everything under the sun and drowning it in dressing. I sped through the salad as I wanted to get to the hot food which would lead me to dessert. My brother and I were plate for plate at this point and we both went up for the hot food. We also both came back with two plates to cut back on the trips we were going to make. When I tell you that we sat there and gorged in silence, I'm not joking. Not a single word came out of our mouths as we sat there and just shoveled the food into our mouths. I honestly don't know how I managed to finish off four plates of hot food, but I did. Maybe it was the nostalgia of it all. I rallied and made my way to the dessert portion of the buffet for one final plate...or bowl. I grabbed a soup bowl and decided I was going to make a proper sundae my way here. Put some cookie on the bottom, hit it with the ice cream, and topped it with a ton of toppings. When all was said and done, I was bloated and filled to the brim. I have no idea why I went so hard here, but the discomfort I was going to feel for the next hour was well worth it. I wobbled a bit out the door, but left satisfied. Was it the best meal that we could have come across? Probably not. But did we enjoy it? Heck yeah, my brother and I reminisced the whole rest of the day about our trips here when we were younger. There aren't many buffets like this left out there, so you got to enjoy this place while the doors are still open.

I go to hoss's montly and it's 50x more quality from the salad bar toppings to the sides to the flavor of their beef tips. It's sad as I used to love this place growing up.

Server approached our table promptly. We asked for a minute as we were unfamiliar with the menu. Review of the menu was surprising. This is a small operation so the menu was not extensive but the choices were reflective of home cooking. I ordered salmon patties (which I have not had since I was a kid) and my wife ordered a salad. Timing on bringing out the food could be improved as my order came out but my wife had to wait. To me it seemed like a small hometown cook. The wait for the second meal wasn't that long but we both found it strange. Atmosphere was clean and sedate. No loud patrons or booming sports TV's. I noticed that the servers did spend time talking to each other but nothing for me to complain about. Food was tasty and fresh. Portion sizes were acceptable, not huge nor skimpy. What caught our attention were the prices. A complete dinner with two sides was less than $10. Unbelievable. Staff seemed sort of unprepared almost as if they were new at the job but nice. Paying for the meal with electronic payment seemed new as they had to discover how to use Apple Pay. Overall a nice quiet hometown place. Would I recommend it. Absolutely. This place is not a fancy joint nor highly polished but if you want good food for a good value in a friendly atmosphere go here. If I'm in the area again I would return.

The food is great, the people are extremely friendly and accommodating. We arrived for the lunch deal around 3:00 p.m. and were seated immediately and we stayed very close to 6:00 p.m. (not eating beyond the normal, but enjoying our conversation). The staff checked on us to see if we needed more water, they noticed that we were not still dining, but enjoying each others' company, we had paid our bill and were done eating. Did not bother us, or ask us to leave as the place started to fill up with dinner guests, we removed ourselves to the outside (no chairs there--but standing and chatting for at least another 15 minutes). It would be nice if there was a bench there to sit on outside; but the place is large enough that I don't really see the need for a waiting area that would require them to put in one (outside). Not one time did a staff member ask us to leave because we were NOT eating...we had come for a late lunch and good conversation. It was really rewarding to have a business ALLOW us to sit there that long and not continuously ask if we were done, or to leave. They definitely get my vote! I will be returning. Clean, good atmosphere and inviting. Maybe it's the time of day we went, but I have NO complaints about the food, cleanliness or attitudes of the employees/servers.

We get there, and the pictures were accurate but it is empty of people, and the food is much more sparse than I would expect. Not only that but it appears (and subsequently tastes) quite subpar for everything I can recall. I don't recall an item that made me think how it was better than acceptable to fill me. There was a sushi space with at least three spaces for plates, and all of the plates had the same three items on them, one being vegetarian, one being "spicy," and I don't even remember the other. The sushi was all a poor show, and they weren't worth going back for another round. I have not skipped the second round many times. The sushi prep space and area did not appear as clean as it could, and there was no clear sushi chef there, no certifications in view...(not saying they don't have them, but poor selection, bad cuts, dirty/messy appearance, the gentleman sitting there like at a gas station checkout) Like I said, the traditional stuff was not great fare. I got a second plate but to try some other things. Was still unimpressed completely. My wife was even struck by the poorness in such a strong way that she brought up leaving a review. Her experience with the traditional foods and desserts was poor, she finished little, and was overall unhappy. We don't hesitate for reviewing both directions, I hate to have to leave a poor one - we had a bad experience and you have issues to work on. Tried some dessert. There was a mousse dessert that was tasty - prepackaged, nothing special. Otherwise, also, not worth it. Honestly the rest looked prepackaged as well. I do expect the prepackaged and bulk stuff from a buffet, that's just part of it. This was a poor show of even that. It requires very little effort... Anyway, I was not blown away, in fact I was disappointed in a significant way. We were really hoping for one last thing on our trip to be sushi at a buffet, with the other traditional foods as well, and this just messed it all up being such a poor experience and food provision. Maybe next time, but not here.
