The burgers are good and so are the shakes, however, somebody is going to get sick here. I watched the cook handle raw beef, then turn and stick his hands into the bins of tomatoes and lettuce to make the burger. He was touching everything in the kitchen, including the bin of cheese and onion ring batter. I said something to another worker and the cook changed his gloves, but they did not throw out any of the contaminated food! If they can fix this problem, I will go back. But until then, it is not worth getting sick. read more

I came in here on my way home from the July 4th fireworks to grab a chocolate milkshake. I must've ended up waiting 30 minutes for ONE milkshake. The staff was very nice, and the milkshake that I eventually received was good, but it was clear they had no idea how to use their order management system. Receipts had numbers on them, but they didn't follow the numbering system at all. I've worked in restaurants before and in the back I could see the receipts that come out for the kitchen to manage orders, and there was just one long string of receipts almost down to the floor... I think management just needs to train their staff on how to manage orders to solve this problem. read more

This was my first time at any Z burger. I went to the one south of dupont circle off P st. It was AMAZING. It was by far the best hamburger ive ever had in my life! (and i wasnt even that drunk). I got the double bacon cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato, grilled onions, and Z sauce. It was sooo good! better than any other of those build it yourself burger places like 5 guys. Don't get me wrong, I love 5 guys, but this place was way better. I wouldnt go on there on a first date, cuz its pretty sloppy to eat, but well worth it! My bf and i split a regular fries and it was ALOT of fries too. They also have some sort of soft serve thats also pretty good but i was going there for the burger, and i left very satisfied. I have generally been disappointed by fast casual burger chains such as Five Guys and Shake Shack. In my opinion, these places generally open with a lot of hype, and then fail to deliver a burger that's any better than the one you can get at any decent neighborhood bar. But man, Z-Burger lived up to the hype. The burgers are huge, they come stacked with delicious toppings. The French fry servings are enormous: we ordered a large fries thinking it would be enough for two people, but there were far more fries than even we could eat. I did not try a shake or any of the frozen custards. My only knocks on this place: (1) the service was kind of slow. We were there at an off-peak time and it took a while for our food to arrive. (2) the fries were very, very salty. They were delicious, don't get me wrong, but saltier than at any of their fast casual competitors. More like old school McDonalds fries. read more

Good food but there is nothing fast about this fast food place. And don't order ahead online for pickup...you will still have to go in to cue the order and wait all over again for them to actually make the food. Needless to say I ordered my food at 8:01 pm, it said it would be ready at 8:19 pm and when I showed up at 8:33 pm it had not been prepared and I did not get my food until 8:40 but they did the food out to my car. read more

Let me start by saying that the owner of this Z-Burger is a cut above. Really and truly. I usually order from the Tenley Z-Burger (outstanding owner there too). We were in a rush, asked one of my kids to dial so I could order while driving, and, well, we ordered from here and not Tenley as intended. When I realized the mistake, I called and the owner refused to accept payment. Own up to mistakes - and this was $40 worth of burgers/fries/shakes. Nope. He wouldn't let me. So yeah, these are the best burgers, fries - SPECTACULAR onion rings!! And the shakes, well, the variety and the quality can't be beat. Yet even more important, the owners are just the best. P St location. DISGUSTING FOOD. Overall poor quality. Would give it zero stars if I could. This is my first & last time at Z burger. Got a cheeseburger & fries. The bun on the burger was both stale & cold (like it was in a fridge), the hamburger wasn't cooked all the way through & was also cold. The condiments totally overwhelmed the burger & there was an overwhelming sweetness from the pickles or ketchup or both. There was an entire wedge of iceberg lettuce on the sandwich. It just didn't stop. Fries were meh. They were at least hot but there was nothing great about them, pretty bland. There was only one person in the whole place...the guy behind the counter. He reminded me of the cook, Deek, from "Two Broke Girls." Scary. And what I really mean is scurry. Added bonus: place was dirty. read more

I have been to majority of all the Z burger locations a nd this one is by far the worst! The eating area is not clean. The order took FOREVER! One guy was at the front kiosk with his shirt open (never ok!). Its a shame because I love thier food and this one is closest to my office. Since this is my second time visiting this location and having the same experience I will not be returning! I guess ill have to wait for the food truck to come around my office I've always had great experiences with it! read more

This is a great restaurant; the first thing I noticed was the spotless kitchen and lobby. I was then greeted by the very approachable cashier, Eli, who went above and beyond to make the best restaurant experience I've had yet on my visit to DC. This burger joint is convenient to my girlfriend's house, so i've been a bunch. Here is what I learned. The onion rings and fries are very inconsistent here. I've had awesome and soggy of both come out of the bag. Second, the kitchen staff here always seems to be working incredibly hard, but something about the way it's set up seems to keep the place in a constant state of chaos. This has been true over several months of occasional visits. T he whole vibe of the place is a little strange: the hamburger buns they use are often sitting in the open, still wrapped in plastic, stacked in pallets either outside the restaurant or inside the small dining area. The staff is very welcoming; the visuals, not so much. Third, I'd say I get exactly what I've ordered 50% of the time. That's a problem for a place that uses the Five Guys model of letting you customize your burger with a ton of options. I've never had a total disaster, but check your bag when you get your order. Shake Shack is a lot better, but this place is fine if you're craving a burger that's better than normal fast food. read more

On Tuesday, September 20th I ordered a burger at the Dupont Circle location. The wait time was unusually long and I noticed other customers received their orders late or incomplete. When I finally received my burger I found a hair and asked for a refund. The staff said that they were not authorized to give me a refund and that the manager was not present. The cook on the grill at first offered to give me my burger and a free milkshake. I declined the milkshake, but said yes to the burger. Again I asked for a refund. They refused to give me a refund, but wrote on my receipt that I could have a free burger the next time I came in. I said that I did not want a free burger, just my refund. The cook became very hostile and was very rude to me. He ended up giving me a burger, but it was not the one that I ordered and when I mentioned that to the cashier he refused to fix it. I asked for his name and the staff refused to give it to me. I called a couple of days later and spoke with a supervisor who said that I could come back in and that my issue would be taken care of. Last night I returned to the Dupont Circle location and asked to speak with a manager. I ended up speaking to the same cashier as before and she told me that the manager wasn't there. I repeated my request for a refund and she said that because I had accepted the replacement burger the week before I would not get my refund. This was the same cashier who had written on my receipt that I would get a free burger the next time I came in. Then the same cook approached me and said that he wanted to talk to me. I refused, left, and went to stand with some friends in front of Marrakech. The cook then exited Z-Burger and began to approach me. He appeared to be just as hostile and angry as before, which frightened me, so I went to Marrakech. Frankly, I was terrified. My friends recommended that I call the police, but I did not. However, I was so frightened that I had to have a friend walk me back to my car so that I could avoid further contact with the cook who was still working when I left. I called again this morning to complain about the cook's behavior, but ended up speaking to the same cashier who told me the manager would not be in today. I am never eating there again. read more

Wow- the staff here is beyond incompetent! I was charged for a bacon cheeseburger and large milkshake - they gave me a medium shake and when I asked for a large they put the medium in a large cup and handed it back- REALLY....REALLY?? And when I got home my burger had neither bacon nor cheese. NEVER GO HERE! I hope that they get rid of the current management as they are running this place into the ground. read more

Put in an order at 12:05. It's 1:38 and still no food. Tracking went from being delivered at 12:45 to 1:30 and now 2:16-2:26. No call, no email. Called and no apology was offered. I was just told that it's on the way. I am passing my experience on to EVERYONE I know. read more
