I appreciate that this carryout spot gets food out quickly and serves it hot, but unfortunately, the flavor just isn't there. The biggest drawback, though, is the pricing and hidden costs. For example, $6 for three very thin pancakes feels unreasonable, especially given the portion size. Even more concerning, the receipts don't list line items, and when you add up the menu prices plus tax, the numbers don't match the total charged. It really makes you question what these extra fees are and why they aren't transparent. They have no real competition in the area so the prices are higher then most mom and pops and service is average at best and can border on rude. The place also has a bad habit of not answering the phone so if you do work nearby and try to place an order you have to go inside and place the order anyway. Good, but nothing special. Actually went there twice today. Had an early Bulgogi lunch at about 11am and got a little hungry again later AND was having a craving for a cheesesteak so went back there for the cheesesteak combo about 1:30pm. Both were ready really fast, like 5 minutes or so (but they were not very busy either time). Prices were OK ($10.49 and $12.5 respectively). For the Bulgogi, it could have used some kimchi and Sriracha but they didn't have either (well, I didn't ask about kimchi actually, just assume they don't have). Cheesesteak and fries were about what you would expect. Could have had a more meat, a little light on the toppings. They have a REALLY wide collection of drinks. Ok so to start I am a big fan of Mom and Pop's shops because I can always feel the authenticity behind the food they prepare. And with this place it is no different. What I liked most about this place is how the cashier presents your food in front of you to let you season your food yourself. The biggest combo, pricing in at about $5.50, includes toast, 2 eggs, home fries or grits, and meat (your choice of ham, bacon, or sausage). They put butter and/or jelly on your toast if you want. They ask if you want onions in your home fries. They let/make you put your own salt, pepper, or ketchup on your food before bagging it up to go for you. This is the type of place that is almost gone from DC, especially downtown, and that's really too bad. The service is friendly and fast, the food is basic but great, and the prices are the absolute best in the city. The menu is actually quite varied, ranging from American essentials such as grilled cheese all the way to Korean bulgogi, and varying in size from a light snack to a belt-loosening breakfast. The style is definitely diner-esque, and I personally love that about it. It would be a great place to take a family instead of blowing $50 at the food trucks or in Chinatown. The restaurant is strictly take-out, as there is no seating inside, so plan on taking your food back to work or finding a place to sit by the Building Museum or courthouses. While sipping on my mongo drink, deja vu-ing about my trip through the South last summer, I glanced at the "Washington Insider: serving more than 50,000 African American readers throughout the Metropolitan Area," listened to the polite orders, glanced at the dapper dude in his fine glory, and listened to more Honey, honey. A regular came in with her fine young son who then said that he'd rather have the food here than at BK (other side of the alley) because he had that ALL the time! The burger was had those nuggety edges that tell you it's handmade. It was a good size. The bread was soggy and pasty. Overall, the burger needed to get some caramelization on the outside and some salt. The meat is not of prime quality. It's not Five Guys. But, that said, this burger was better than McDonalds or BK. Surprising. And it was better than I've had at many a picnic or party (Many, many). Honey Honey has been a surprise, not a revelation. I'll go back and try the rest of the menu (correction: printed but with hand-scribbled amendments). And, where in DC can you get Sweet Tea for under a dollar? cheap food and greasy. if you come over here everyday I bet you will get a heart attack for sure. Their oil at the grill probably don't change everyday and you can taste it on their fried food. One time I went there for fish sandwich and I wanted to put mumble sauce on sandwich and she said that if I do that she will charge me 30 cent extra.but she said that fries is free on it. I was like what the hell?! Then a few days I went back to get some fries and she was saying I put too much mumble sauce on it. i'm not surprise she was probably complain about ketchup too. By then I said to myself I would never return to this place again. She also round it off the nearest dollar, meaning instead of giving you the change she will keep your change. This is a great place to go eat. It's open at 05:00 AM, which is a huge plus for me. Since I have to be at work by 06:00 AM. Not many place are open that early in the morning.
