Ugh, why do I keep trying. They had posted a yelp check-in offer for free fries when you purchase a burger. I bought a Groupon earlier in the day and used that to purchase two burgers. I show they got my check and offer before I order and he knowledged it. When I picked up my order, I realize the fries were not in the bag. When I asked, they refused me my free fries. Wow!!!! Didn't expect this when I wondered in for a late lunch. I was just looking for something to hold me over until dinner. What I got was an incredible hamburger with the best French fries you will ever get short of cooking them yourself at home. Far better than other burger options (Shake Shack, Baja Burger, Five Guys, etc., etc.,.........). Onion rings are great too. I ordered the single cheese burger with the 1/2 fries 1/2 rings. The patties here are thick delicious. Their fries come in two flavors. The overall prices are average considering the area. I ordered the double bacon cheeseburger. This was so large. Their bacons are crisp and thick. Their standard toppings are Mayo, Lettuce, tomato, pickles, fried onion, Sauteed mushrooms, ketchup and mustard. Their onions and mushrooms - are so delicious. Woowwww, they also have additional free toppings including the jalapeno peppers (they are NOT pickled. so they are super spicy - beware!) Their shakes are really delicious as well. They come in 75 flavors and can order it as concretes, sundaes, or shakes. We tried the strawberry shake and it was delicious. The location is great too - P street needed a burger restaurant and it is the only one on this side of the street so will be visiting every now and then. Next time, I won't need to go with the double patty - need to try the single patty. read more

I would give the location zero stars if I could... even when no one is here, the wait is terrible because the employees don't care and are all on their phones. Half the time I order something I am told after paying that was I asked for isn't in stock and that I'll have to choose something else. This was my first time eating at Z burger and it was fantastic. Souad the manager greeted us at the door with a warm conversation and a big smile. Her energy was off the charts. I ordered a hamburger, a bacon philly and a cheesecake milkshake which was done in less than 4 mins. We sat outside and Souad brought us our food and drinks. First off, the staff here was all hustling and working hard. If I was running a restaurant or burger shack, I'd want staff like they have. I'd also point out that I came right before someone ordered NINE subs and right after me someone ordered ELEVEN burgers. That may have an impact on today's visit. The layout of this place is designed for chaos. Very little place for people to stand around, and a very large table in the middle of the lobby area. Felt like we were in the Metro during rush hour, everyone was packed in. People literally had to leave the building for me to get past them to get out too. It's just badly designed and no room inside. The burger was ok. Not great, but OK. Seeing the huge drawer of meat, the snowballs scooped out, and the smashing on the grill may not be appealing to some; I wouldn't have designed the place for people to see the grill if that's how they make their patties. Other comments on this page about lots of condiments (especially mayo) apply. I'm glad I asked for light mayo, because I saw them put two or three tablespoons on a burger. This is why Americans are fat. The fries are generous portions to the point of ridiculousness. I should have asked for 1/3 the order; I got the regular size (not the large) and received a lunch bag completely full. Threw out about 2/3 of them. Fries were also ok, I wouldn't say they were great. By the time I got them, they were room temperature and soggy. Flavor was the same as Five Guys, if you like their fries you'll like these. I think they were cold by the time I got them possibly due to the people ordering way too much food mentioned above. They forgot my milkshake when giving me my order, causing me to wait an extra five minutes. That's not a horrible thing, especially in a fast food place where people order too much at one time (including me, the order before me and after me, there were TWENTY-ONE burgers and subs ordered). Ignore my comment about the large portion of fries for a moment... the shake was plenty small for the price. $5 for I believe 12-oz. I got the Irish Creme, which I wouldn't get again -- it had a strange aftertaste, maybe strawberry. I didn't see anyone else get a shake before me, so can't say the machine was dirty. Could have been the Irish Creme flavor itself that's just not as pleasant as say a Bailey's. I may give the place another try. Not soon, I was curious to see how they were and now I know. But maybe next time I'm curious about a different shake flavor -- and remembering the price on them for what you get. I'll definitely skip the fries and maybe the burger too. read more

Popped here on a Saturday at lunchtime. It's a small place that I believe used to be a falafel shop. The comparisons to Five Guys are apt: the offerings (as far as I know, but I'm no expert on either place) are similar with burgers, fries, grilled cheese sandwiches and hot dogs. I don't think FG has cheesesteaks though. Got a double cheeseburger with lettuce, tomatoes and raw onions. As a burger I thought it tasted quite good, better than the FG burger I had not that long before. To my surprise it was still warm even though I had to stop elsewhere before returning home to eat. As a burger it was perfectly adequate and while cheaper than other places it's also nothing special either. The place was clean and surprisingly not crowded past 12:30 on a Saturday but maybe I just lucked out that day. When I had stopped in at 11:30 to grab a menu (this was my first experience ordering from here) it was completely empty. Like others I wouldn't necessarily make a special trip but if you're with a friend and want to grab a burger in Dupont, this might not be a bad place to try. The burger itself was tasty, although it was way too big for me to finish and I felt full and borderline uncomfortable for the rest of the day. We got an order of onion rings to share, but each ring was so large with so much batter that we ended up throwing most of them out. I did not get a shake, but there were at least 25 different flavors to choose from. The most frustrating part of my experience was the woman taking our order. She was extremely difficult to understand due to her thick accent and she seemed frustrated when I had to ask her to repeat herself numerous times. The restaurant was chaotic, dirty (although it was an incredibly busy day so this might not be a fair representation) and had very limited space and seating. Wish there was a smaller side / meal option. We also had a fry / onion ring order but this is too big a portion for 1 person and too expensive in my opinion. The onion rings had way too much breading. I wish they came with a petal or horseradish sauce. I have worked in the restaurant industry and am forgiving of a lot of cleanliness issues. Roaches are unavoidable in the city. Hairs escape caps. No biggie. I purchased the Groupon for two visits. The first visit I noticed a few slips of gloves but wasn't paying close enough attention to comment. So for the second visit I watched my food being made. There were three employees working the grill- one was instructing the others. No one ever changed their gloves. The instructor touched the raw meat, produce, cooking utensils, and finished products with the same gloves. Another employee had injuries to his hand. His pointer finger was in a splint and a bandage was on his index finger. There was no glove on this hand. He cooked with the uninjured gloved hand. But then used the injured hand to wrap finished food, which included touching the finished product. I saw the bandage touch the burgers! There are products sold specifically for covering finger bandages in kitchens. I threw the burger and fries away. The soda was flat. read more

The shake/custard board posts 75 flavor options and each time I placed an order the cashier kept saying "no we don't have that" and defaulted to Oreo. My friend conceded to get an Oreo shake but I declined to place an order. I commented that it was interesting how they have 75 flavors but only 1 was available. After doing that the cashier said "we have all the flavors but I don't have time to make it...it's been a long day". Talk about poor work ethic.
