Soggy General Tso's with recooked broccoli
    Tiffiny H.

We ordered take out so we know it's not as good as when it's served in the restaurant We've had better take out from other restaurants in the past. The General Tso's chicken was soggy and bland. The broccoli was soggy and overcooked. The Massaman's curry was ok, but very bland. The Kung Pao chicken was ok but also bland. They need to cook with more spices. None of the dishes were spicy either. The stir fried rice didn't taste like it was stir fried. The food tasted like it was leftovers that were reheated. The salad was rusty and we didn't even eat it.

Paid 17 dollars to get a container half way filled. When I called to ask why my container was half full he said that's our standard portions. So I asked why they use standard size containers and only fill half way to which he replied this is the cheapest box we can buy. This explains why their rating is so low. They cheap out on everything. I'll never buy from rainbow again. Over priced garbage. Tastes like it came out of a bag and heated it up.

Really good food and stays open late. Loved the lo Main!! The beef and broccoli was also really tasty. Portions were really good for the price Update: explored the menu more. Got the spring rolls and they were super delicious. Definitely our new go-to Asian food pick-up

This is a mixed review - high points of my dining experience, and not so high points. First off, the fresh rolls I ordered were good. I liked the peanut dipping sauce that came with it too. It also came with a salad, which, while iceberg lettuce is nothing to crow about (and in their defense, most Asian places will serve salads like this), the dressing was pretty tasty, and the crunchy noodles on top were nice too. The main reason I wanted to try this place was that I heard they had pho (Vietnamese soup with rice noodles) which, aside from Angkor Bistro, is impossible to find in the area. Though the portion size was generous, the flavor and composition left a lot to be desired. No peppers or Thai basil were served as garnishes for flavor (they did have bean sprouts, lime, and cilantro though), and many seasonings and ingredients that you would expect in a bowl of pho were lacking. That being said, I wouldn't be against returning to try some of the Thai dishes. Pho is a specialty and rare is the restaurant that gets it 100% right, so not completely fair to judge a restaurant based on one dish. (Again, 3 stars is NOT a bad rating!) The staff here were plenty friendly too and loved the atmosphere with the 70s soul/R&B music, so no complaints there. Not in a hurry to get back, but not against trying again.

    They have pho???

For a little while there, this was my buddies and I's go to place to dine at after a long day at work because they stay open late as mentioned in my original review. Our last visit here at around 11pm we came in and seated ourselves as usual. Bar area was packed. About 5 minutes later a young fella came by and told us that if we're gonna dine in to eat, they are not sure that they'll have time to attend to us and even if they do the food can take hours. We were 1 of 3 tables in the dining area. We couldn't believe what we just heard! Haha! Thought it was a joke at first... but he walked away, and never came back. That's when we got the message and left. I never minded the tacky decor, the really bad menu items (I can work around that since they have a great selection of other edibles), never minded the bar crowd (some acting like it's "the" premier night club), the smokers who gather around the front door (smoke doesn't bother me anyway), the spotty service, etc etc etc. Never minded any of that because we go there to eat and talk business anyway so during late nights in the dining area it's great for that kind of stuff. But to hear THAT? This is Rainbow Asian Cuisine, a mediocre Asian restaurant in JC (where I have NEVER seen an Asian person working here)... not the current hot spot in NYC. I ain't waiting hours for my food here WITH the possibility of not even being served at all. No way. Never coming back and they just lost a consistent customer here.

Here was our order: -Shrimp Salad (Summer) Rolls: 10/10...the rolls were twice the size of rolls you get at other Thai places for the same price. But with the peanut sauce, they were transcendental. That peanut sauce could be bottled and sold en masse. So so so good. -Papaya Salad: 7.5/10, very refreshing, but with a secret hit of spice on the back of the palate that wakes you up. Crisp, fresh, healthy. -Larb chicken: this was a first for me....to my unrefined palate, it tasted almost like ground chicken cooked with pho spices/herbs. I ended up drizzling some of the leftover peanut sauce on the chicken which was amazing. Again, lots of protein and vegetables, perfect for health-conscious folks. 9/10 -Pad Thai: this is my wife's safe order that she always uses as a litmus test for restaurants, and it did NOT disappoint! She said this was her favorite pad Thai EVER, and with drizzles of the extra peanut sauce and lime juice, this dish was truly elevated. 10/10. -Mango Sticky Rice: 100000000/10, my lord I don't know how I lived my life without this. It's reminiscent of peach cobbler in my opinion, but with mango. The sweetened rice isn't overly sweet, which allows the sharpness/sweetness of the mango to shine. The mango itself was perfectly ripe, whereas most mangos tend to be sickly sweet and mushy from overripening. All in all, this is our new favorite for Thai cuisine in Tri-Cities, and my introduction to Lao food was beautiful and filling. We will absolutely be back in the future, as I'd love to see how Lao pho differs from Vietnamese pho. Plus the mango sticky rice is etched into my mind permanently.

Good thing I took a picture of my receipt when I had written the tip very clearly. The restaurant decided to instead change the tip and put whatever they wanted. This is fraudulent and is being reported to the appropriate institution. Original: Good food, decent service, decent atmosphere. To start off, food is actually pretty good! Vegetable spring rolls are crispy and tasty, however the duck sauce that it is served with is a little weird. It is not sweet like any other restaurant. They also have a decent hot and sour soup, however, the real star is their tom kaa soup (coconut soup). That soup is really flavorful and is great with steamed tofu. I also should suggest asking for the spice rack so that you can add a little spice to the soup. Make sure to get the spicy basil fried rice. This is really flavorful, and we got it hot (on their spice scale). This was a real stand out. We also got the pad Thai noodle dish which was pretty good. I do think the restaurant could've done a little bit more to make the dish flavorful, as the noodles were definitely on the lighter side for taste, and they were also clumped into one big mound. Lastly, we got the yellow curry with steamed tofu. This was pretty nice and mildly spiced. Big chunks of potato, pineapple, and bamboo shoots are the default vegetables in the curry. The restaurant is able to make many dishes either gluten-free or vegan. If you have either of these dietary restrictions, definitely check with the staff as they are able to accommodate. Now, service was OK. We were only checked on one time during our meal, and we had to keep getting the attention of the staff to provide us with extra utensils or bowls/plates. Our waters were left empty for a decent amount of time, and it seemed like staff were indifferent. This wouldn't be the worst, however, the restaurant default forces a 20% tip on groups of six or more. As we fell under that, I expected better service. Please also be aware that the restaurant forces a 3% surcharge for credit cards. This is a little disappointing as most credit card assures charge restaurants less than 3% for a transaction fee, so this restaurant is just passing on more fees to the customer, even more than what some credit card companies add. So just be prepared if you come as a party of six to pay an extra 23% on top of your bill (20% mandatory gratuity and 3% credit card fee).

Everyone at our table received their food in a timely manner--except me. I ordered the hamachi kama and was told it would take about 20 minutes to bake, which I was completely fine with. However, after waiting... and waiting... and watching my entire family finish their meals, we were then told my order had been messed up because the restaurant got backed up and busy and would take another 10-15 minutes. At that point, nearly everyone was done eating, so I asked for my meal to be boxed to-go. We spoke with a manager, Chris, who apologized and told us the meal would be comped--which felt like an appropriate resolution given the situation. But after sitting there for almost TWO HOURS total, my husband and son went to follow up, only to be told that my order had been completely canceled. The reasoning? That they "weren't going to comp something and let you walk out with free food." That response was honestly shocking. I never asked for anything extra--just the meal I ordered, even if it had to be to-go at that point. Instead, I left without eating at all. The lack of communication, the excessive wait, and the way the situation was handled at the end completely ruined what was supposed to be a celebratory night. Really disappointing experience. We didn't even want to order the desserts we planned on ordering because at that point, they didn't deserve another dollar. The environment would've been enjoyable if we weren't focused on food missing and the lack of customer service.

The restaurant and staff were typical Chinese vibe. I'll be honest, coming from NY, my expectations weren't high. I didn't even take pictures at first because I assumed there wouldn't be a review (and I usually won't post a negative one). When I tell you SHOCKED isn't even a strong enough word... I'm not kidding. We didn't want leftovers, so we ordered a few things to share. They brought kimchi and pickled cucumbers to the table. I'm not even a kimchi person, but this one was delicious; and the sweet, tangy cucumbers were fantastic. Wonton soup is always my barometer for good Chinese food. The broth was flavorful with just a little kick. The wontons were plump with filling and had a super thin wrapper-absolutely delicious. We tried both the egg roll and the spring roll-both spot on. The duck sauce and Chinese mustard were excellent too. For our main, we ordered General Tso's chicken (mild spice) with white rice. First of all... the platter was HUGE. Aside from being slightly spicier than I personally prefer, it was AMAZING. And yes...WHITE MEAT CHICKEN! Big chunks of juicy, crunchy chicken, large slices of onion (which I love), pieces of pepper, and a delicious sauce that coated everything perfectly. Halfway through the meal I realized I HAD to take a picture because this review was happening. This wasn't "good for Tennessee." This was genuinely DELICIOUS Chinese food. Yong Asian House-BRAVO!
