I ordered fresh spring rolls, wonton soup, and Singapore noodles three weeks ago. I ran and got order while caring for my 91-year-old Mother. The quality and palatability of the food was HORRIBLE and inedible. When I called the next day (because I "should have called that night"- quote the owner) I was admonished about not calling after receiving the food. She stated she would keep my name behind counter. NO REFUND! The o fresh spring roll wrappers were excessively gummy, making them difficult to bite or chew, and quite frankly, they felt unsafe to eat. The wontons were undercooked and doughy and gross. The Singapore noodles were also disappointing, seeming hastily prepared and lacking in flavor. I understand that there may have been changes in the kitchen staff at 430pm, but consistency in quality is essential, especially when I am spending my hard, earned money that could be spent else where. When I reached out to discuss my concerns, I felt dismissed by the owner (NO REFUND!) and not appreciated as a patron... with whom she makes her livelihood. When calling tonight, (to get my $25 meal replaced as she had stated it would), the owner, admitting she remembered my initial complaint, spoke to me hatefully, harshly and with speculation. I was made to feel as though I was lying and trying to take advantage. I received a crappy undercooked and unedible meal but yet all I'm gonna get is lip from the owner. Instead of wanting to replace the order and make it right I was presented with an owner who was apparently concerned only with her profit with the price of noodles and rice, not quality. I have enjoyed many meals in the past, which makes this experience all the more disappointing. The customer service I received during this interaction was NOT satisfactory and frankly off-putting and downright RUDE. The owner's dismissive and accusatory attitude left me feeling undervalued and unappreciated. I chose to spend MY hard earned $ at that establishment....I use to LOVE this place but the owner left such a HORRIBLE taste in my mouth that I will never give another dollar for her to put into her pocket TWICE Ive spent my time and energy with them and TWICE I got nothing but destain, bad food and horrible customer service. Please do not spend your $ or your time patronizing a place where you, as the consumer, are not respected nor listened to and treated as a liar and a "noodle" thief. The broccoli was soggy and overcooked. The Massaman's curry was ok, but very bland. The Kung Pao chicken was ok but also bland. They need to cook with more spices. Paid 17 dollars to get a container half way filled. When I called to ask why my container was half full he said that's our standard portions. So I asked why they use standard size containers and only fill half way to which he replied this is the cheapest box we can buy. This explains why their rating is so low. I had lunch at Rainbow Asian Cuisine today. Below are my comments: N Roan by the restaurant is under construction. Of course this is not the restaurant's fault but it was difficult to get to it. My friends were already seated so I didn't wait for the hostess to show me to the table. As soon as I sat down our waitress came over to get my drink order. She was very pleasant and attentive during our meal. She was the highlight of our visit. I ordered the Pad Thai lunch special with pork and my friends ordered various shrimp dishes. My dish was a big disappointment. Instead of the normal broad rice noodles I have gotten everywhere else, this dish had vermicelli and what looked like spaghetti. The dish did contain pork but there were also small pieces of chicken. It looked like the chef just threw whatever leftover items he had onto the plate. The dish was salty. A woman other than our waitress brought the food to the table and she was rude. The food was plopped down on the table with no regard as to who ordered what When I first went to Rainbow Asian Cuisine the food was very good and so was the service. This is a mixed review - high points of my dining experience, and not so high points. First off, the fresh rolls I ordered were good. I liked the peanut dipping sauce that came with it too. It also came with a salad, which, while iceberg lettuce is nothing to crow about (and in their defense, most Asian places will serve salads like this), the dressing was pretty tasty, and the crunchy noodles on top were nice too. The main reason I wanted to try this place was that I heard they had pho (Vietnamese soup with rice noodles) which, aside from Angkor Bistro, is impossible to find in the area. Though the portion size was generous, the flavor and composition left a lot to be desired. No peppers or Thai basil were served as garnishes for flavor (they did have bean sprouts, lime, and cilantro though), and many seasonings and ingredients that you would expect in a bowl of pho were lacking. That being said, I wouldn't be against returning to try some of the Thai dishes. Pho is a specialty and rare is the restaurant that gets it 100% right, so not completely fair to judge a restaurant based on one dish. (Again, 3 stars is NOT a bad rating!) The staff here were plenty friendly too and loved the atmosphere with the 70s soul/R&B music, so no complaints there. Not in a hurry to get back, but not against trying again. read more

For a little while there, this was my buddies and I's go to place to dine at after a long day at work because they stay open late as mentioned in my original review. Our last visit here at around 11pm we came in and seated ourselves as usual. Bar area was packed. About 5 minutes later a young fella came by and told us that if we're gonna dine in to eat, they are not sure that they'll have time to attend to us and even if they do the food can take hours. We were 1 of 3 tables in the dining area. We couldn't believe what we just heard! Haha! Thought it was a joke at first... but he walked away, and never came back. That's when we got the message and left. I never minded the tacky decor, the really bad menu items (I can work around that since they have a great selection of other edibles), never minded the bar crowd (some acting like it's "the" premier night club), the smokers who gather around the front door (smoke doesn't bother me anyway), the spotty service, etc etc etc. Never minded any of that because we go there to eat and talk business anyway so during late nights in the dining area it's great for that kind of stuff. But to hear THAT? This is Rainbow Asian Cuisine, a mediocre Asian restaurant in JC (where I have NEVER seen an Asian person working here)... not the current hot spot in NYC. I ain't waiting hours for my food here WITH the possibility of not even being served at all. No way. Never coming back and they just lost a consistent customer here. read more

Overall a mixed bag; good service, clean, and nice atmosphere. The food was ok, generous servings, came out quick and was hot. Flavors are lacking, very one note with little variation between the appetizers and main course. Everything that's deep fried tastes the same... like reused cooking oil. Asked for a level four hot, nowhere close. Meat dishes with sauces are really thin, almost watery. My wife and I have been here several times and the food flavors just can't compete with a few other TriCities oriental restaurants. My boyfriend and I ordered takeout, so I can only comment on the food. The "amazing curry" is just really thick peanut sauce, which is odd. The green curry was watery and was just not good compared to every other curry I've had in different states. The spring rolls were bland and the dipping sauce was too thick to actually dip them in. It just doesn't seem like authentic Asian food at all. I hate leaving bad reviews for local businesses, but after spending that much money on takeout it just wasn't good and I feel like others should be aware when trying to chose a place to eat. I avoided this place for the longest time. It's location hooked onto the Best Western made me hesitant to try it. One night I was really craving spicy Thai soup and decided to try out delivery from Double Time delivery. I ordered both Tom yum soup and the Pad See Ew noodles and loved them both. Shortly after I was out without my daughter and stopped in for a meal. I sat at the bar and had a great time. The Thai was once again exceptional. I am now ordering delivery about once a week. I always get the soup. Sometimes 2 orders so I can split my meal in half and have soup for both meals. read more

Attached to the Best Western in Johnson City, we dined here after arriving around 10pm. Tired from a long drive from northern Virginia to Tennessee, this was our first stop in a cross country trip with our final destination being Las Vegas. There's a dining area complete with typical asian motifs; a pool table; bar; and lounge area. It was pretty busy on a Friday night and wanting to relax and unwind, we dined in the less busy dining room. The kitchen cranked out an order of gyoza that were small and basic. That was followed by the appetizer sampler, containing dry chicken satay, crab rangoon typical of a mediocre Chinese restaurant, egg rolls dominated by cabbage and little else, decent coconut shrimp, and spring rolls that were the highlight of the dish. With a large menu full of Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese, and Japanese fare, they do a decent job of creating popular dishes but lack the finesse in their execution to make them memorable. 2.5 Stars read more

This was really disappointing. We'd ordered carry out. Which is probably why our experience was so poor. The steamed dumplings were good with plenty of sauce. The rest was just sad. The Singapore noodles were a good portion size, but the spice was in a lump in the middle of the dish. It was as if they tossed everything in a pan but never stirred it. Then it was dumped into a container. The General Tso's chicken had no sauce or flavor. Just chicken nuggets with broccoli. Lastly, the fried rice was plain tasting and had an odor like rancid oil. Usually the Tom kha gai soup is decent. Now it tastes like they've added sugar to it. It's so overpowering that I can't taste the galanga or the kaffir leaves. Also, what's with the larger than bite size bits? Chicken lettuce cups we're tasty, but unruly. Then again, what lettuce cup dish isn't? Still, they are more like lettuce wraps or blankets. I would imagine with all the light on, that it would look pretty scary (as in dirty)... carpet looks old etc Service have been hit or miss too. This place was a pleasant surprise. It is actually a part of the Best Western Hotel. We arrived late on a Friday night. I was very skeptical because it was in the hotel. Since we were tired, I decided to chance it. The place smelled great. The menu is extensive. There were many things to choose from. My lovely companion ordered the Phad Bo Me, a noodle dish. The light sauce over ramen style noodles and crisp vegetables was really good. I chose my usual dish at a Thai place, the basil chicken. The menu indicated it was spicy. Not to me, yet it was still very good. The basil sauce was not exactly what I expected. It was good, different than what I am used to. There were large pieces of onions, peppers and zucchini along with the chicken. The white rice was good, served on the side. Portions were huge and service was great. This meal was a welcome surprise. Did I mention they serve one of the best beers in the world (Yuengling)? Give it a try. I hope you'll be as pleasantly surprised as we were. read more

Honestly the worst asian we've ever had. Bland and tasteless. Waitress asked how it was so we said something, cook/owner came out and said "three bite rule" when she saw I ate my broccoli. The only thing that was decent was the fried gyoza. We got the seafood delight and the happy family. Both were bland, we could taste the sear from the grill/pan more than the sauce. We came here for a nice new experience and were greeted with food that tasted horrible and bland. My wife and I were in the old for curry food, so we decided to try this place as we were in the area and just happened to b driving by. We were both expecting a more Indian style curry, but were interested in trying Thai curry. The rations were huge, but the rice ball that came with it didn't fit the size of the curry helping so you either have to be stingy with you rice or enjoy some of the curry with it it. There was plenty of ingredients to enjoy without it. We had the red curry and crab rangoons, which were awesome because they were freshly made. We prefer the more Indian style curry, but this place was pretty good and not terribly priced for everything that you get. The style and decor added to the enjoyment and the placed seemed very big. read more

This restaurant is a bit of a hidden gem. From the exterior, you would not necessarily expect that much. But the food is absolutely fantastic, and this restaurant offers more diversity than anything else in the Tri-Cities, at least if you're looking for Pacific Rim cuisine. The owner is also extremely friendly typically comes around and talks to many of the guests. While this may not be important to some people, it shows that they care. I believe she told me she's in 4-5 Asian restaurants over the years. It shows because they really know their stuff. Occasionally they take part in the 7 course dinners that are sponsored by one of the local liquor stores. We were lucky enough to come to one of these. If you like Thai food then this place is heaven. read more
