I've seen several great shows here. Love the Zach Scott theatre. Great venue for any size production since the remodel. Parking can be a challenge as with anywhere downtown and the bar is a bit over priced. But the staff are friendly and informed, which makes all the difference. read more

Zach Theatre is amazing! I live right across the street and have been coming to a Christmas Carol since 2014- if you order tickets ahead of time, front row tickets start out super cheap! Right when you walk into the theatre, you immediately realize what a hidden gem it really is. They have some extremely talented cast members and the sets/props/costumes are always well designed. We try to go to the opening nights of shows because it's a 'champagne toast' - you get complimentary champagne and get to meet the cast! I highly recommend Zach Theatre, you won't be disappointed! read more

My daughter has been involved with classes at the Zach for several years, from summer camps all the way to their College Bound Conservatory (CBC), which is a 4-yr program in high school designed for kiddos who want a career in the theater arts. Our camp experience was positive and productive; I was always impressed with what the kids were able to create at the end of such a short time together! The CBC experience was over the top, though! Our daughter, by the end of her Junior year, had enjoyed her classes but felt the call of writing over acting and we wondered if she should continue with the program or free up time during her senior year to work on applications. Ms. Kate's response to this shift was amazing; she suggested that our daughter become a writer-in-residence for the group, creating a play and some monologues for the other students to act out. This sensitivity to the changing needs of a student and providing an opportunity for our daughter to begin to try hone her talents was very impressive to us as parents. Our daughter is on her way to studying screenwriting in college because the Zach helped her "marry" her two passions of writing and theatre. She leaves the program as a self-confident young writer/ actor who knows herself better. I cried this past week as I watched the Year 4's give their last, impressive performance and speak in such amazing terms about each other, their teacher Ms. Renee and the program director, Ms. Kate. Our family is so happy with the Zach experience and the theatre family our daughter has been adopted into. read more

Just saw The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe (originally written by C.S. Lewis) at Zach Theatre. The 2 actors did an amazing job re-creating this play. It's a play that demonstrates good and evil, multiple worlds layered on top of each other, the substitutionary atonement of the lion (representing Jesus Christ who is the lion of Judah), forgiveness, faith, hope, and so much more. Originally written by a Christian who was a former atheist, this play has profound meaning. The actors did a wonderful job bringing the characters to life, demonstrating the core themes, and creating emotional fireworks. Excellent job. We highly recommend this play, this theatre, and the actors. read more

I absolutely HATE hidden fees. We just bought tickets to an upcoming performance. Based on other feedback, I trust we'll enjoy the event itslef. However, I'm not pleased with the ticket purchasing process. Tickets were $45 each. But when one goes to check out, there's a $4 pp "facility fee" and $2 order fee. Fine, perhaps the order fee is optional - a premium for convenience of ordering online. But "facility fee"? Really?? Just be honest and state the ticket price as $49. read more

One of the premier theatres in Austin. Stages range from the new beautiful 420 seat Topfer, the 200+ seat Kleburg, and finally the 100+ theatre in the round Whisenhunt. Productions are top notch, which include musicals, dramas, and comedies. Memorable productions include The King and I, Priscilla Queen of the Desert, The Christmas Carol Musical, Santayana Diaries, and the 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. Better than Broadway! A Christmas Carol that rocks! The scene design, the talent was superb and when you can mix this production with songs from The Doobie Brothers and similar genres you have the audience anticipating more. Sad to see it come to an end, great venue location and the talent was grand. read more

A Cristmas Carol - Good performance ruined by Zach's management's decision to give dozens of three foot bright colored flashing staffs to people in the audience to wave during the performance. Extremely distracting. Theater management should refund most of the $80 paid per seat. read more

Over the years, both of my daughters have gone to camps/classes at Zach. Most of the time they have enjoyed themselves while they are there. There have been a couple dud camps/classes, but those teachers are no longer working there. Fortunately, we've had more hits than misses so we keep returning. By the way, my youngest attended the Harry Potter camp last year, and she absolutely loved it. In fact, she would have liked to attend it again, but it's not offered for her age group. Overall, the Zach camps/classes are a great way to keep your kid using their imagination. read more

Saw the Ann Richards play last night. AMAZING. Libby Villari was spectacular. Strong, humble, funny in her portrayal of a larger-than-life TX governor. We were dropped off by a ride-share and that worked well. Theater is gorgeous. Had not been there in years and the seats were wide, comfortable and there was not a bad seat in the house. Now that I know that, I wouldn't be afraid to buy tickets in the back row bc even then you'll be able to see and hear everything. A gem in Austin. And Libby Villari is a force of post menopausal awesome-ness. read more

I am very impressed with their musical theatre programs for youth and recommend parents send their children here to help them develop their craft. Their teachers really know their stuff and their pre-professional company really prepares youth for college study in music and theater. I was really impressed with their summer camps and saw improvements in my children that I did not see at camps they attended at other local theater organizations (and we've tried most of them). I'm deducting one star because some of the people involved can be cliquey- pulling from the same talent pool repeatedly rather than drawing in new blood. read more

Excellent kids theater shows on the Kleberg and Whisenhunt stages. They do a fantastic job with sets. Excellent production value. Have seen numerous big productions at the Topfer Theater such as Evita and A Christmas Carol. Love this place! read more

I'm consistently impressed by Zach. The talent, choices in production, the work they put into sets and costumes is all part, and the passion you feel from the experience are all part of the great package that is Zach. Every time I've ever gone to opening night they have wowed me and made me want to go back to see the show again. The staff is really good about coming up with creative ways to engage patrons before or after the shows. It's just an all around wonderful community theatre and I highly suggest you support it. read more

Our family from out of town bought us tickets for A Christmas Carol and we really enjoyed it . All the hard work these talented cast members put into their parts to put on an outstanding show. Zach's College Bound Conservatory is unlike any children's theatre education program in Austin. Run as a pre-professional workshop, CBC prepares students for the rigorous college audition process. Students build skills in an artistically safe and supportive environment. By the end of year four, every key piece of the college audition package has been built and polished: resume, headshot, introductory letters, audition warmup techniques, slates and monologues. My husband and I have gone to see two shows now at the Zach Theater. We went went to see, One Man Two Govenors and Mary Poppins. Both shows were fantastic! It's a first class venue! The volunteers are so kind as they help you to your seats. The snack and beverage choices are a bit limited and pricy as most venues are, but still wonderful with a selection of wines and teas, snack boxes and sweets. It's a clean and classy venue. We will continue to keep coming back. read more

I attended the preview show of "Once" last night, and was delighted by it! The direction and musical direction were spot on, the set design simple but telling. As always, Zach Scott's Dave Steakley finds the best performers in Austin and brings excellent talent from out of town, to create a lovely musical that tells a love story, and a story about the Irish world it sprang from. The cast was multi-talented, able to play instruments like the violin, piano, guitar, banjo, cello, even an accordion, as well as perform their characters with great depth and intensity. The leads, Corbin Mayer and Olivia Nice, were excellent and charismatic, and the supporting cast were equally wonderful, with standouts like Ben Hulan, Scotty Roberts, and Anya Gibian offering great side plots and characters. Zach Scott always gives us great theater, and I salute this cast for their hard work and loving touch to this show! read more

It's a very fun place for camps over the summer and simply to go see a great performance.

My daughter begin her acting training at Zach's Performing Arts School at age 6. From fun Summer camps to more advanced classes, she experience first class instruction and many opportunities to attend master classes taught by professional actors. I am so grateful to all the faculty and mentors at the College Bound Conservatory program for guiding my daughter and giving her the skills and self-confidence she needed to prepare her for college auditions. I highly recommend Zach's school to any child of any age, especially those who are considering a career in the performing arts. read more

It saddens me to say that Peter and the Starcatcher is the worst performance that I've ever seen at Zach. I felt like I was at a high school play. We left at intermission along with about 50 others. What an incredible waste of talent. read more

They always deliver a first class experience. But literally a woman who is working as an usher/host overheard me saying I wanted ice but didn't want to wait in line... And I didn't even know it... My daughters took two separate camps at Zach Scott this summer. One was Hairspray, both my daughters thought it was 'okay.' Kind of expensive to get an 'okay' from them. Well when I saw the show at the end of the week, it was not good at all. Then they had another camp, Theater Academy (that I wished I would have cancelled after the first one). This one was worse. At the end of the week I watch each of my daughters do a stupid improv, and a song and dance where none of the kids sang at all and barely knew the dance. Will not do another camp or class at Zach Scott. Don't waste your time or money unless they change things. read more

Ten members of my family went to see A Christmas Carol last night at the Zach. I was stunned!! Having just been to NYC and having seen 2 top Broadway plays in November, I never dreamed that the Zach would be better than Broadway, but it was!! I was speechless at the level of this performance. Based on that, I would guess that some some or maybe all, of the cast members have either been to or are headed to Broadway. It was pure joy being in the audience. We sat near a couple whose child was in the show. They said the cast members were all exceptional actors and really good people and it showed. It made me proud and grateful to be an Austinite and excited about going back to the Zach. Thanks to everyone in the cast, adults and children, who gave us such a beautiful, unforgettable performance last night!! read more

DO NOT send your child to the pre professional program. They did vocal training with my young child that could have potentially hurt his voice. He is very young and you should not try and change a child's voice at this time. They are hurting kids voices to improve their shows without thinking about how it will hurt their voices in the future. read more
