Very disappointing. Kids silver dollar pancakes tasted as if they were frozen and popped in the microwave. Omelet was more of a frittata then an omelet, you could tell it was cooked in a frying pan, was completely round, not cooked all the way(runny) and then folded in half. Kids grilled cheese was with egg bread and not with regular white or wheat, tasted horrible, even my 19 month old who isn't a picky eater just shook his head and wouldn't eat it. Fries and onion rings were very oily. My husband had got an open faced meatloaf sandwich, meatloaf like chilly!! I'm giving It a one star as the waitress was super nice. read more

"Meh" is just about right. I've been here at least half a dozen times in the past few years, something different every time. The atmosphere (unclean bathrooms, cramped, indifferent staff) has improved somewhat recently. But the food hasn't. I don't get the 'it's a Jewish deli in Mass!' thing. Because it's not a *good* Jewish deli. Considering that it's in the barren suburbs, some might take the approach that weak is better than nothing. I don't. You can get much better breakfasts at many other places within a ten or fifteen minute drive, especially as you head toward Boston (Newton, etc.), and at better prices. You'll pay a solid lunch tab here for an average or below breakfast. You'll pay more for lunch, and the variety/quality/quantity just isn't worth it. I also just don't get the fat lady art thing. An attempt to nauseate customers before they even start eating? This is really one to just skip. read more

The place is clean I have to give it that. Breakfast has always been decent but expensive for what you get. Not very free with the coffee. The picture of the obese woman always makes me feel like I'm going to get fat from eating there. NOT worth going out of your way to go there. read more

I have been to Zaftigs in Brookline many, many times. I was very excited there was one opening closer to my home. My family went for lunch close to when it first opened and were very disappointed with the food. My hummus wrap, which is huge and fresh at the Brookline location, was skinny and sad. My daughter ordered a grilled cheese which came with the bread barely 'toasted', not grilled, and the cheese not melted. I chalked the experience up to it being new and crazy and they hadnt found their groove yet. Fast forward to last Friday, when my husband and I stopped in at 9:00 am. The place was empty except for 2 parties of 2. The hostess greeted us with a friendly smile and hello. We decided we would just sit at the counter. We sat down and there was a waitress right there doing some side work. She didn't look up at us, didn't turn around, nothing. After about 2-3 minutes she turned to us, plopped down menus and said "ya want some coffee?" No hello, nothing. Ok, fine. We both wanted coffee. After pouring it I asked for a glass of water. She said nothing, no acknowlegement that she even heard me. I did get the water though. We placed our order, my husband got an omelette and I got a couple of eggs and sourdough toast. After a few minutes, I got up to go to the ladies room. Apparently, at that point my husband noticed food sitting in the pickup window, (the advantage of sitting at the counter). Super waitress was still standing there doing her side work. When I came back and sat down, my husband said, "I think thats our food there. Its been sitting there since you left." After another 2-3 minutes, our waitress brought it to us. She put down my dish in front of me and it literally had a pool of oil sitting in the center of my over-easy eggs. I asked as nicely as I could, (not to upset super waitress), if I could have new eggs. she took the plate and gave it back to the cook and asked him to remake them with just 'butter spray, no oil'. He acted as if he didn't understand and kept making her repeat it. I piped up and said, "if its easier, I will have them poached." She said, "oh, no, you don't want that, the first poach of the day takes forever." Ok. Got my eggs back and noticed that I didn't have sourdough, just plain old white toast, that mind you, was not re-toasted while my new eggs were made, as were my deep fried potatoes masquerading as homefries. Both were left to sit in the window getting cold and hard while waiting for my eggs. At this point, I kind of gave up, as we had an appointment to get to and I knew if I said anything else, I would not be eating at all, or worse. Mind you, this is not an inexpensive breakfast. Our bill for 2 small egg dishes and 2 coffees was over $25. Now, I don't mind paying more money for good food. This was NOT good food. Even if everything else was fine, the fact that they are just deep frying their homefries is ridiculous, and the nasty attitude of super waitress who was clearly doing me a favor is totally unnecessary. I was a waitress for 20 years and this behavior is uncalled for. While the Brookline Zaftig's is just as expensive, the food and service is always great. I will not go back to the Natick Zaftig's. read more

Couldn't wait for this place to open based upon the reviews of their Brookline restaurant. Had breakfast when it first opened, and thought it was just ordinary. Had lunch and was even less impressed. Went back for another try on Saturday morning, and was surprised to see it fairly empty. I now can see why. It was close to the worst breakfast I have ever had. Had a Ham & Cheese Omelet w/ a side of bacon and coffee. Boy was I disappointed. The omelet was "tough" and barely edible. I found a slight indication that there might have been a small amount of cheese in the omelet. The bacon was fine, but the potatoes were not even edible. The potatoes tasted, and looked, like they were left over potatoes that were mushy and deep fried. On top of the poor breakfast, the cost was outrageous (Omelet 7.97, cheese 1.00, ham 1.00, bacon 3.00, coffee 2.75). Total cost with tip was $19.00. Way too much for an inferior breakfast. There were more wait staff than customers on a Saturday morning. This place will not be around for too long. read more

This was the worst. I ordered the bagel with lox and the works $14.95-- I asked if the bagel was fresh-meaning today- I was assured yes- so I asked that it not be toasted- of course it came toasted-so i returned it- the marble bagel that finally arrived was stale-so they brought an egg bagel- also stale- the cream cheese-chive- veggie is extra- was barely enough for half the bagel-had to get more-there were three slices of cucumber and four slices of tomato but generous amount of onion and five slices of nova. Two people with us ordered lox, eggs, and onions- did not look like they used two eggs-very small portions-also about $14- and well done poorly seasoned potatoes accompanied toast with this dish. The chicken salad was delish- but the challah it was served on was so thin that the toasting made it hard and inedible. Pickles not automatically brought to table-there's a $5 charge-you do get a small handful of bagel chips and some cream cheese when you sit. The place was crowded-so we waited 20 minutes for this poorly done meal. The wait staff who wear cute monogrammed t-shirts was interested in "making it better"-so they brought some pickles-watery however-but ultimately even friendly people can not make up for this poor shadow of a Jewish deli. At take out small pieces of rugelach sell for 50 cents each. The bathrooms are not well attended- and the place really needs a paint job-especially in the back near where you would hang coats and wait to use the bathrooms. Jack and Marion must be rolling....Won't go back. This place is to be missed. read more

Came here from out-of-town to meet some relatives for dinner. We were warmly greeted at the door by Adam who sat us right away. Our server, Kristen was really nice & made sure our table was well taken care of (drinks replenished, extra napkins, condiments etc). The table ordered a variety of items including pastrami/chopped liver combo sandwich, potato pancakes, chopped liver appy, mac& cheese bowl, French toast on challah bread, gefilte fish appy, matzoh ball soup, & a salad topped with goat cheese. The food came out timely & everyone enjoyed their meal. Special note to items I particularly enjoyed was the flavorful matzoh ball soup with sliced carrots in it & the pastrami. Pricing was a bit high, which is the reason for the 4 stars and not 5, but Zaftig's is a place to go & get a variety of good food.....whatever you want, regardless of time of day. I recommend the place and will return there when in the area in the future. read more

Used to go to the Brookline location all the time and the food was always amazing. This location was never as good, but the food was fine. I went several times over the last few years until a few months ago when I had one of the worst dining experiences anywhere, ever. We went to get breakfast for dinner with another couple and their baby so four adults, two kids. After we were seated I started to notice a not very good smell. I thought I was imagining things but then I heard the table in the back ask if there was something wrong with the restroom bc it smelled bad back there. The waitress answered something about there being a problem with it although I didn't hear the specifics. I couldn't believe it. The whole restaurant smelled like a bathroom and yet they kept their doors open and didn't warn customers? Gross. If it was just me I would have left then and there but the kids were hungry and we were with others, etc etc so we stayed...it took over an hour to get our food only some of which was correct and in the end didn't taste very good. Ended up paying for food we never even got bc we had to get the kids home and couldn't wait anymore or find our waitress. As desperate as I am to find an all day breakfast place, I swear I will never come back here! read more

I can't remember having a worse experience at a restaurant. I have been going to Zaftig's for a long time in Brookline and then Natick. The food has always been good but the service can be hit or miss. This visit took the cake for both the patrons and the waitstaff. It was packed as usual for a Saturday at noon but the wait was not too bad - 35 min. After putting in my name and standing against the wall with my 4 year old son. It occurred to me that several people at the counter were getting ready to leave. I asked the host if the counter was part of the dining room or first come first serve. She let me know it was the latter so I went back to my spot to wait. Clearly hearing me the two girls standing against the opposite wall told the couple next to them to take the seats at the counter because they were there first, while giving me a look. Ok, whatever. Then they took the next two available seats. Again, whatever. But I realized that there was a single open seat on one side of the counter and another single open seat on the other side. So, I thought that it wasn't unreasonable to ask 3 people if they would mind moving down one seat so that the two seats could be together and we could also sit at the counter. The first man didn't have a problem moving down. But the young couple next to him definitely had a problem. The woman wouldn't even acknowledge my request, wouldn't look at me and wasn't about to move. Her husband/boyfriend said I guess it's ok and kept repeating it as a question to her. Now granted they had their food and were eating but if it was me I would not have hesitated to accommodate others. After all this is a counter/bar not an individual table. Finally she just moved over but not before giving the waitress/bartender a look. After sitting down I turned and thanked her, again wouldn't acknowledge or respond. So, I said that I really appreciated it. Still no response. Now on to the waitress. She had waited on the two other couples who sat down before me. When she got to me she didn't even come over to ask what we would like to drink instead she stayed to one side of the counter and asked from there (I didn't even realize she was addressing me at first because she was so far away). When it came time to take our order - she again asked from afar (she couldn't even hear my order because she was too far away). Clearly I had pissed her off too. We placed our order and then my son wanted to use the restroom so we got up. When we returned all three were staring in my direction and talking clearly about me and I caught the end of the conversation as the waitress said "well, sorry that happened to you". When the couple had left and the waitress was in front of me I apologized for causing such a problem and that I didn't think it was such a bad thing to ask to be accommodated. She just shrugged her shoulders and said that they were in the middle of eating. The entire time I was eating and after I left I felt so disgusted at the lack of kindness and rudeness for something I wouldn't have thought twice about doing for someone else. Although probably not a reflection of Zaftig's as a whole it will be a long time before I consider going back. read more

The WORST! I never had any issues at the Zaftig's in Brookline, but I have had horrible experiences at the Natick location. Today, my boyfriend and I went for lunch, and I had the Lincoln wrap, and he had the stuffed French toast. I asked for no tomato, and got diced tomatoes that I couldn't pick out, not a huge deal, but just inconvenient. But my French fries were severely undercooked and were ice cold, and and while I was still chewing my food, the waiter came and took my food away and asked as he was holding my plate of food if I was all done. My boyfriend got through half of his stuffed French toast and it was completely FROZEN inside, to the point where he couldn't eat it because he was chewing banana flavored ice on the inside. We told the waiter about the French toast, and he offered to take it off the bill. The best part was that there was a couple next to us, and the girl ordered a black bean burger and she only took two bites out of it because it was cold, and not cooked. I guess it is a common trend to serve cold undercooked food. We won't be going back to the Natick location again, and it has convinced me to maybe not even return to the Brookline location. read more

This place has a good reputation and I was excited to try it. However that quickly turned to disappointment. After we were seated our server was the bar assistant manager, she yelled at another server in front of us for not setting our table properly. Then she proceded to rush me and my boyfriend into ordering. She also didn't give us the crackers(?) I think it was at the beginning of the meal. To me that's just rude, she didn't even ask. It was if we were wasting her time and not worth it. The food, was sadly another horrible story. I got the hot roast beef. The beef was rubbery and extremely over done. And my boyfriend got the chili burger but it was stuffed with so many onions that he couldn't get through any of it. We barley even ate our food and our server didn't check on us to see we liked it or not. she gave an extreme amount of additude anytime I asked for a drink refill and I could hear her complain about going on break late. She actually visibly upset a table by refusing to serve them stating she's going on break. If your am assistant manager, why should you represent yourself or your restaurant like this? I was very unsatisfied and I actually think I got some sort of food poisoning because I kept throwing up later that night. DO NOT GO HERE. Extremely poor service, even worse food. read more
