"When you noodle with a doodlin' song I like it so much, I'll doodle some more" (Peggy Lee) Were you stumped by the word "Kugel"? Kugel is a traditional Jewish noodle casserole. And that word makes perfect sense as the namesake of this wonderful little Framingham deli. Their menu is loaded with the ethnic delights you'll find in any NY Style Deli - Reuben and Rachel sandwiches, Hot Pastrami, Bagels and Lox, Whitefish Salad, Potato Latkes, Matzoh Ball Soup, Herring, Kishka, Challah French Toast, and yes........... Noodle Kugel. We had checked out their deep menu the day before and knew what we wanted - a Whitefish & Lox Platter ($25) with a choice of Bagel, a choice of cream cheese served with lettuce, onions and tomatoes, and cucumbers. We added an extra bagel for $1.75. Now, I have to tell you that we were incredulous when this huge platter of very reasonably priced platter of food was delivered to our table. I bet there was between a third and a half pound of lox, plenty of vegetable cream cheese, a ramekin of whitefish salad, and a garden of lettuce leaves, sliced tomatoes, thinly sliced purple onions, and cucumber slices. The bagels were pretty big and were everything you want in a bagel -nice and chewy/crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. We each had one half of our respective bagels with cream cheese, lox, and onions, and the other half with whitefish, lettuce, cucumbers and tomatoes. One customer service caught my eye immediately -those big tomato slices had been carefully trimmed to take out the core. That drives me batshit crazy when a restaurant apathetically doesn't do that. Staying on the customer service theme, our server was very attentive, with plenty of checkbacks and coffee refills. We packed up our leftovers and finished them off the next day. So that fish yielded us four servings. I promise you this....... The next time we are looking for breakfast between Boston and Worcester... I know where we'll end up. I've been to Kugel's many times and have always had delicious sandwiches, sit down or take out. A friend from out of town wanted a Reuben, so we went there for take out. I had a very generous corned beef, and she ordered her favorite, a Reuben. Unfortunately, her sandwich was not what she expected: the toast was burned; the sandwich was sloppily made (put together;) and the whole sandwich was soggy and falling apart. This used to be our favorite deli but after a recent visit, we will not return. The Spanish omelette was the thinest possible, literally transparent, with barely any cheese and too much gooey salsa. The $18 brisket sandwhich was skimpy and fatty with too sweet au jus. It still has the old school Framingham charm, but the food has gone down hill. If it's too expensive to serve good food anymore, they should close. I will always have my memories at least. read more

Seems the Romanian pastrami has gotten greasier and fattier. Used to be my favortite. The prices are no longer reasonable, especially for the sandwiches. Even taking into account inflation and the post-pandemic bumps. One item that is quite reasonably priced is the hamburger, but unfortunately it is tough, flavorless and not hand formed. Also, wish they gave a whole pickle rather than a skinny slice. The cole slaw and potato salad are excellent. The service varies depending on the level of infirmity of the waitresses, who often are stressed and worn-out. With a few adjustments, I think Kugel's can relive its glory days of several years ago. Short review: New to Massachusetts. Been to Kugel's three times. First two, took home a dozen bagels. Just superb. Best I found in the area. BUT, last week got a dozen and they tasted like out of a grocery store package. And not cheap!! Something changed and I won't risk again unless a good explanation posted here as a reply. Terrible corned beef. Not the type you would expect from a Jewish deli. Tastes like the overly processed meat you get at a supermarket.

Quick, great value, and speedy service! I came in for a quick lunch in the go and Kugel's had everything I needed. I was in and out I. Less than 5 minutes of a Friday at noon. Inside was busy and the take out counter had no line. Everyone was friendly. I got the fresh turkey on marble rye with potato salad. When I got home, my sandwich was still warm, the turkey was moist, and everything held together in the short drive. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was because of the potato salad - it was OK. I will definitely be coming back for breakfast soon! read more

Wow, what a rip off horror show. I eat at many delis in many states and always look for a good pastrami sandwich... saw Kugels on Yelp... figured I'd give a try... one strike and they are out.... I'll never darken the doorstep again. Ordered hot pastrami on marble rye with Swiss cheese... came with this Dinky pickle size of a gerkin. Small 2 Oz sauce container of potato salad which was ok... nothing memorable... Roche brothers sells better. Now the sandwich...worst thing I ever seen ... entire rape was16.79 with no drink and takeout. You need to be a surgeon to perform fat removal surgery to assure edible and when left... very little meat...guy who made this sandwich should get arrested.... If my cardiologist saw me eating this with pile of fat... he'd would do an artery de clog after.... The waitress needs attitude adjustment... kept barking to move out of way while waiting for my sandwich...bagels looked lousy and likely baked by someone else days prior Wow... this place on way out serving awful food in bad vibe place. sitting there and for Jewish deli...Yelp should have told me this place lousy food . Food was mediocre. Waitress was rude. She took offense when I asked to hold onto the menus BEFORE we ordered (said "Whatever" in a rude tone), then wanted me to order last. She didn't check in after the food arrived or asked to refill my coffee. Overall, I'd say Kugel's isn't as good as it used to be. read more

Literally the worst! We had mediocre expensive food and they over charged us for one sandwich. But the waitress was so combative and nasty we were afraid to say anything. We walked in at 12:40 and she told us they closed at 2 so hurry up and order. She had some massive eye rolling at my request for gluten free bread. Said I couldn't have a Reuben on gf bread because the pieces are too small. Took 25 min to get two sandwiches and 45$ later. The waitress was combative with anyone who walked in. And they shut the grill down at 1pm so don't bother coming in after. Actually, just don't bother coming in at all! Wish I had read the other 1 star reviews before stopping by. There aren't too many old style Jewish delis any more. Zaftig's is just not that good, and, to be honest, in my experience, neither is Kugel's. Coffee and bagel were mediocre, although the staff was great. I wish that I could be more enthusiastic. It seems like a regular place for a lot of people, but maybe they should upgrade a little in terms of food quality and interior. Breakfast review Had high hopes for a good breakfast based on previous reviews but was not impressed. Waitress was no frills no smiles....just sit and order. Their hollandaise is fake sauce (aka comes from a can, yuck!) potatoes were greasy/oily and word grey color (see pix) and didn't really care for omelette which had veggies in it but were cut way too large. I always have a good time at Kugel's, even when I am alone. Lots of friendly, familiar faces. The owner, David, is nearly, literally, 'quick with a joke or to light up your smoke'. If I smoked, I know he would have a match on request. What is smokin' at Kugel's is the Kugel's Hot Dog. Omg. Is this even a hot dog??? Whatever it is, it is rich, dense, and awesome. We were actually expecting a couple of normal size hot dogs, but when this came out, me and my two boys could only laugh. It was like a hot dog on steroids, and full of hyperbole. See the photo. Plenty of parking and fair decent pricing. It might be a little hard to find, but it is on the side of the Trolley Square building, around the corner from Aoi, which is visible from the Route 9 off ramp to Edgel Rd heading west. If you go past the IHOP...you missed it. If Kugel's is too crowded or there is a wait, there are a number of other places in that immediate area to try. They also do takeout, and as far as a great breakfast...I'm telling you smugly, 'shut the front door.' Always good. read more

I'm kind of surprised that some gave good review of this place. It was one of the worst meals I've had in MA. My husband had a pastrami sandwich that was at least 50 percent fat. The wrap I ordered was just a bunch of cheap veggies thrown together. The cole slaw and potato salad really bad. An experience I won't soon forget and I don't mean good. Truthfully we arrived 30 minutes before they close, and we wanted to sit. Maybe not a good idea as we felt rushed... Confusing ordering. A waitress who never really connected with us or paid us much attention. Sloppy Rachel sandwiches arrived after some time, with every mouthful more ingredients sliding out of the rye. Impossible to eat without a mess. Side of slaw, unremarkable. My Dr Browns black cherry soda was quite delicious. I wish it all had been more tasty! And pleasant. A small and casual restaurant on the back side of a strip mall plaza on Rt9. You'd never know it was here if you weren't looking for it. And its hiding a gem of a sandwich. When I say the setting is casual, I mean it. This is the kind of place where the regular patrons, seemingly all of them, call out and harass their favorite waitress. Who also give back as good as they get. And that sandwich, it is a classic, Corned Beef on Rye. A razor sliced heaping helping of fine corned beef, run through with ribbons of whisper thin rich fat, making the addition of cheese on this sandwich unnecessary and unneeded. I met a friend here for lunch today, and despite living just a few miles away, it was my first visit. It's a small space, tucked into the side of the Trolley Square plaza building on Route 9 near Framingham State University. It has a homey, diner/deli feel with simple sandwich shop type tables packed closely together to maximize the seating available. It was crowded during this Friday noon time, with only a few tables open, which says a lot about its popularity. My friend and I both had the reuben sandwich ($10.49) on dark rye, which was piled high with delicious, lean corned beef, offset nicely by the creamy swiss cheese, Russian dressing, and tart sauerkraut. A pickle spear and some tasty potato salad spiced up with dill rounded out the plate. I've got a pretty good appetite but I was stuffed by the time I finished. The menu had a lot of other sandwich, wrap, soup, salad, and breakfast options that looked intriguing for future visits. Service was prompt and friendly. From the looks of the crowd this place gets a lot of regulars and everyone seemed relaxed and comfortable, talking with the servers and other customers. And why not? I noticed this place when I was out on other business. Thought to my self, it's been a long time since I had Kuggel, so I will give it a try. The bad news first, Kugel's Deli does not serve kuggel, what a disapointment. It is however a nice NY style deli, reasonable priced, good sanwich and breakfast selections with attentive staff resturant. The dining area is small, I would guess 15 tables ranging from seating for 2 to seating for 6. At the lunch hour the place was busy but no one was waiting for a table. Th They do have a carry out counter but I only saw a couple of people using it during my visit. The staff greated me right away, took may order and stopped by a few times durring the meal to make sure that everything was ok. They did bring my check when I was half way through my good sized meal with the comment, no rush take my time.
