Definitely a touch above your average desi restaurant with respect to taste and presentation, but without any pretense. Feels like you got invited to eat at the one classy aunty's house whose cooking is renowned for being top notch. There's just something about Gulberg Bistro that emits understated elegance. Cozy up to the "Quzy Haleem" for sure. Where so many haleems are too thin or too thick, this one hits the Goldilocks zone and comes up with succulent shreds of meat. Look at those vivid green jalapeño slices on top! This Haleem screams freshness and spice. It's a must try even if you're spice averse (just get some yogurt or a lassi on the side, or dip it in any of the freshly baked naan or rotis!) My other favorite is the "Papdi Chaat". I still haven't had one anywhere that's this good. It's tangy, tart, creamy, crunchy: all sensations I didn't know I needed to have together. Every other offering I tried - Lahori Fish, Karahi Chicken, and Okra - are solid offerings if not the most incredible I've ever had (for that you would have to go to Devon Street in Chicago if not Pakistan itself). Everything again is fresh tasting, made with quality ingredients, and comes out hot, but lacks a certain pizazz in flavor that keeps it from taking the top prize. For example, the "Beef Behari Roll" from Chai Chenak in New Brunswick is in my opinion superior to Gulberg's because it's more smoky and creamy. Gulberg's was a bit dry. The service is impeccable and understanding of our needs. We had a baby with us and they made sure to give us plenty of room for her stroller. At one point a whole lot of chai was spilled on the table and ground, but they were so gracious as they cleaned it up and got us another chai at no charge. There's a lot of desi food in NJ, but Gulberg Bistro is certainly one of the elite.

Shinwari Chicken Karahi ($29.99) - delicious! The portion is also huge (enough for at least 3-4 people)

I've ordered takeout and delivery from Gulberg Bistro a few times and have been quite happy with my experiences so far. I'm obviously not an expert on Desi food but I really liked what I've tried here, especially their chicken dishes. Highly recommend: -Chicken Behari Platter ($10.99 lunch special) - Super tender and juicy chicken thighs, with a nice charcoal flavor. Definitely recommend! If I were reviewing them based solely on their chicken dishes then this would for sure be a 5 star review. -Chicken Shinwari Karahi ($29.99) - Savory and delicious bone-in chicken leg pieces, very aromatic with a strong black pepper flavor. It's not very spicy, and the portion size is enough for 3-4 or more people. (Note: It doesn't come with rice or naan.) Karahis take 35-40 minutes to prepare FYI. -Thooti ($7.99) - Super delicious and fragrant phirni, topped with a few pieces of nuts and rose petals. I preferred this to the kheer: it was sweeter and seemed more "rice-y" (versus milky) in my opinion. Good: -Murgh Makhani ($12.99 lunch special) - The three generously sized chicken pieces inside were extremely tender and juicy. In general this isn't my favorite dish but I liked the version here! -Gulberg Special Mutton Karahi ($34.99) - I loved the gravy (super fragrant and full of spices), but some of the goat pieces were tough and dry. It's moderately but not very spicy, and the portion is enough for 3+ people (it's 2 lb of meat). -Kheer ($5.99) - Compared to the phirni I found this milkier/thicker, less sweet, and less fragrant. There were some whole cardamom pods inside but the predominant flavor was still milk in my opinion. I also liked the breads that I tried here: the naans were soft and doughy, and the onion kulcha ($2.99) was more puffy/fluffy and slightly sweeter in flavor. A few minor issues: -We had to wait 20 minutes past the quoted time for a takeout order. -On one delivery order I ordered two lunch specials, and one was missing the naans and condiments. Despite these issues, I like their food enough to continuing ordering from them. They're also very responsive on Facebook messenger and were super helpful in answering all my questions there.

Sat: 12/11/2021 11:10 AM EST Location: Gulberg Bistro (3000 State Route 27, Ste 9, Kendall Park, NJ 08824) Party Size: 4 First Impressions: We were promptly greeted and seated. Restaurant was clean and no off smell or no visible trash. Front of the house was attentive. This review could easily have earned them 3.5 stars but I ended up scoring them 2 stars for obvious reasons. ******Long Post Alert******* ... (Continue Reading). All items were paid for.. Not a paid review. We were waiting for a person in our party so we started with drinks. 1 **Doodh Patti (Plain), 2 Lassi (1 Sweet & 1 Salty). Since we were literally the first customers our Lassi's came within few minutes and then came my **Doodh Patti. I know Milk is protein but little I know I was served Protein plus Insect infused "Drink. It was just disgusting as first thing in the morning you don't want this experience. I should have walked away. But because of my friends stayed and continued to place the order. I showed it to my server and first she said sir it is Malai but then looking closely she apologized and replaced it. We asked our server for recommendations. She said our Paya and Halwa Poori is highly recommended. We placed 3 orders of Halwa Poori and One order of Paya with Sesame Naan. Food was served in a reasonable time and quantity was OK. Now let's decipher the dishes served. Paya (trotters) - You can ask any true Paya Eater, this is not how paya is made. It was laced with so much oil and spices that first bite literally punches you hard in your throat and forbids you of the next bite. We told the server as well. When she took the food back that this was no good. Naan - Nothing Fancy one was good and one was burnt. Halwa Poori Platter (Channa, Aloo Tarkari, Halwa and 2 Poori's) - Living in USA for 20+ years this has to be the best Aloo Tarkari I have tasted in a restaurant. Channa was very decent for Poori. Halwa was just meh.. Nothing special. Our Party received total of 6 Poori's 2 were perfect, 2 were burnt and the remaining 2 were extremely oily. No Consistency of food coming out of the kitchen. One of our friend in the party met an acquaintance who sent us Kheer from the menu. Kheer was decent and better than most Desi Restaurants in NJ. The owner Qamar also paid a visit to our table and sent complimentary tea. I wish I could say a few better things but there is no excuse for first thing in the morning to have this experience. I hope for others it's a better experience.

Gulberg Bistro opened recently in the area in the middle of covid craziness. We thought we will give it a shot so called them and placed the order. I was told to come and pick it up after 30 mins. We went to pick it up after 40 mins maybe and then got to know that no order was registered on phone hence the food was not ready. The lady in the counter was very nervous bcz of this and she told me she will get it ready as soon as she can and send it to my car. The baby started crying in the car so we came down and waited outside where we met the owner. He apologized again and assured the food will be there soon. We waited patiently. They were nice enough to give us the entire order free of cost. I really appreciate this gesture because they put us first. So now let's talk about the food. We ordered cheese naan, mutton biriyani, beef behari kebab and chicken cheese kebab. The kids were very hungry so they ended up eating the naan in the car and I m glad we did bcz we ate it hot. It was soft, gooey, cheesy and just plain yum !!! The biriyani was 8 on 10. I loved the texture of the rice but it could use a little more mutton I felt.... The kebabs were outstanding!! I am so happy that now we don't have to drive to Edison Shalimar for these kebabs. In fact Gulberg's kebab are better !! Will go back soon for a real dine in experience!! Highly recommended if you love meats !!!

As with any new restaurant, there are some kinks to work out. Service is a bit slow, but that may have been due to the restaurant being packed on the night we came. Every table in outdoor dining area was full on a random Monday night. Some stand out dishes are the chicken cheese kabobs, karahi, naan and Lahori fish. Would highly recommend these. The owner says that the BBQ and Karahi are all made fresh, which is why the dishes take time to make. I personally was not a fan of the papdi or samosa chaat, but everyone has their own preferences with chaat ingredients. All in all, will definitely be back for the grill and karahi dishes. This is a major step up from the tired restaurants on Oak Tree Road.

This was my first visit to Gulberg along with 5 of my friends. The overall feel of the restaurant is great and welcoming. Staff is super polite. Today, we wanted to just try their special Sunday breakfast called Halwa Puri. The general feel I got from all of my friends was that the Halwa Puri was Okay. It wasn't anything great that we would go back for. But must say that it might still be great for folks who only prefer to stay around Central Jersey. For them, this might be the best option. The Chai was Fantastic! I will surely go back to try other items on their menu, and later if the other items turn out to be better, I will adjust my score.

Went for lunch with my brother on a Saturday afternoon and it was not crowded. Pretty good food. Worth a revisit.

Had dinner here in the outdoor seating area with a group of friends. It's a lovely ambience. We ordered a papdi chaat for the table, as well as a variety of dishes including the chicken behari (entree and roll), beef behari, beef chapli, and beef nihari. I was warned that the spice level here is kicked up a notch, and I wasn't feeling particularly brave so I played it safe and stuck with the chicken club sandwich and masala fries. The chicken was well seasoned (spice was definitely there but not overwhelming at all) and masala fries were crispy. No one in our group had any qualms about any of the food. We ended the night with some doodh pati and gulab jamun. Service was friendly and attentive.

Executive chef Ashish Tiwari demonstrates his culinary creativity with sumptuous ghee-roasted lamb chops which are a must-order from the appetizers. Another standout was the eclectic vegetarian platter featuring delicious pesto paneer tikka and crispy Thai lotus root chips that taste like savory jalebis. The main course that we ordered was not as appealing as the appetizers. The Jaipuri malai kofta tomato curry was poured tableside by the attentive staff and went well with the freshly baked garlic naan but the kofta itself was not memorable. The serrano and lemongrass mocktail tasted like a spicy margarita and was well crafted. The food came out cold, including the naans, which should never happen. We returned all the dishes and the naans to be warmed up! Every main dish was mostly gravy! Very little main item! As an example , the goat curry looked generous but had just 4 small, bony pieces for $32 -- that's $8 a piece with barely any meat to eat on them. About 80% oily gravy and only 20% goat meat I would guess! Our "spinach jalapeno paneer curry" was mostly palak with some jalapeño mashed in and very few pieces of paneer! Then there's the $44 vegetarian appetizer platter - an exorbitant price for just 8 pieces total, no chutney included. Beautiful plating, but the portions and the value just aren't there. Be prepared for a second dinner after eating there! Wouldn't ever go back to this restaurant!
