| Deeply Disappointed -- What Happened to Baithakh? Baithakh used to be one of our favorite go-to spots in North Brunswick. We've always enjoyed the food, but unfortunately, something has definitely changed since our last visit -- and not for the better. We ordered several dishes, including the Baithakh Seekh Kebab Roll, Crispy Fried Chicken Burger, Beef Paya, Beef Nihari, Peshawari Mutton Karahi, and Chicken Malai Boti. To our surprise, nearly everything was a letdown. The Beef Paya and Peshawari Mutton Karahi were both swimming in oil and severely lacked flavor, which was shocking considering how good they used to be. The Fried Chicken Burger had decent seasoning, but the chicken itself was tough and rubbery -- almost inedible. The Chicken Malai Boti was okay, but even that wasn't as tender or flavorful as we've had here before. Maybe they've changed chefs or recipes, but the quality just isn't the same anymore. Baithakh had never failed us before, but this visit was a major disappointment. Sadly, we're giving it a 2 out of 5 stars. One of the good places for legit Pakistani food in the area. Stumbled upon it with some friends while on our way back from a hike. Decor/menu/ambiance is really creative. Staff is friendly and very attentive!! We tried their Papri chaat and gol gappay for apetizers and loved them. For main entrees, we ordered Butter chicken/Bhindi/Bun plaster and it was all veryyy tastyy!! Would defo go back! Their Chai is great too-Must order after food. read more

Picked up a Chicken Kadhai and "Shadi waala Qurma - Lamb" last weekend (Sunday). Specially the SWQ-L was *nothing* but OIL. It was 3/4th OIL and the actual curry was somewhere down below. I am serious and wish I had clicked a pic. It was almost as if they are selling OIL in the name of a curry. Despicable! Avoid at all costs!!! read more

Recently I had a chance to visit "Baithak" restaurant. We ordered the buffet and started with Nahari and Paya. I was pleasantly surprised with the authentic taste of paya and Nahari. The food was amazingly delicious and the service was very personable. Mr Shahid was very kind and courteous. The taste reminded me of Nahari from "Kareem hotel in old Delh. I will not hesitate to say that in the last 40 years I haven't had better tasing Nahari and Paya dish in any restaurant in USA. My only regret is that I wish I had tried other dishes. I would like to especially thank the chef for preparing such a delicious food. Please keep it up. read more

Delicious Pakistani food at the recommendation of my friend. This was a first for the 3 of us. The portions were enough for two, so we were able to mix and match. My favorite was the Kulcha, it was soft, hot & fresh; and really came in handy in cooling off my tongue from the spicy Dum Chicken Biryani. While I really love chicken biryani I always forget to ask for it mild. I must say besides the Kulcha, the butter chicken was fantastic, I'm so glad I have leftovers, I thoroughly enjoyed it. and would order it again without hesitation. Everything else was excellent as well. I would definitely come back to this family friendly restaurant, not to mention the price is pretty reasonable, which makes it worth coming back. We went there the other day. All was good. We liked the food and service but then I had to pay the bill. We were three and tip was added automatically and then when I didn't ask and click the button to add tip on top of the added tip, no one said a thing until I later realized. When I see this kind of dishonest behavior, I don't care how much good your food is. You just don't deserve a second chance. We will go back to Chai Chenak or GFBU. Here's what we ordered as take out: One mixed grill, which consisted on various kinds of grilled chicken and beef, including tikka and kababs. They also gave us a side of raita and chutney. We also ordered a daal (lentil stew), naan and paratha (types of flatbread). The food was delicious. Not overly spicy, very flavorful and a good amount. The daal was cooked to perfection. Both the naan and paratha were also nice but would probably taste much better if eaten hot and fresh. read more

Baithakh (Karachi style) cuisine. A hidden gem. If you're from Bombay, India, and craving to eat that delicious mutton dumwali Taloja Biryani at that Old Biryani House, you know what I'm talking about.... that place where we drove for two hours each way.... And ate finger licking Biryani! OK Baithakh is the closest to that one. Not just for their amazing Biryani, but literally less than 20 minutes drive from Princeton or New Brunswick!! Even if you're not from Bombay, you'll get to taste what an excellent Biryani should taste like!! We tried their mutton biryani few days ago!!! Wow!! The mutton melts in your mouth! Perfectly cooked baby goat! And flavorful. We went back this evening and thoroughly enjoyed their equally delicious Chicken Biryani and Shadiwala Mutton Korma. With Butter Naan of course! Let me start off with, THE FOOD WAS DELICIOUS!!! The Beef Nihari was flavorful and the meat was melt in your mouth. The Beef Bihari paratha roll was delicious. The beef had really great taste and the paratha was perfectly crispy on the outside. The chutney that it's served with compliments the roll perfectly. Naan were nice and soft too. Enjoyed the meal completely. The service was excellent too. The owner himself came to our table and asked us how our food was and had a conversation with us which I thought was great. I went with a friend of mine and we spent hours there and they never made us feel like we were taking up space. The restaurant was quiet with some light music playing in the background so you can actually hear the person you're with talking which I appreciated. One of my best friends is Muslim so I was searching for a Halal place to catch up over lunch. We settled on this place which seemed pretty decent. I came in wanting to truly like the place given the prior positive reviews but our experience wasn't the best. I acknowledge that partially might be due to the weird time we arrived at on a Friday (2pm). There weren't any other guests present which is totally fine; we came in at a time where they weren't expecting customers it seems. That's not a problem. But I would at least suggest playing some light music or background noise/tv as our conversations felt magnified by the ambient silence. We instinctively began to speaking softer because it felt like the entire store could hear us talking (e even at a normal room volume). That said, it wasn't a big, big deal. The other issue was that it was pretty hot/humid/stuffy. At this time in NJ, we're going through quite a heat wave but it was a little disappointing that there wasn't much AC inside. This too, I would not say was not that big of deal for us but still a minor inconvenience. What did annoy me was me and my friend were constantly defending our food from a couple flies that were constantly circling back to us after being swatted away. The food itself was pretty good though, I ordered a Garlic Naan, Mango Lassi, and Chicken Korma. I give kudos to their portion sizes and the Naan was crispy, fresh, and warm. A couple food related points for some who may be considering this restaurant is: - The entrees do not come with any rice so you'll need to order that separately if you want some. One garlic naan got me half way through the Chicken Korma which is pretty decent. - Entree curries are pretty large (in a good way) so you can consider sharing with a friend. I ended up packing mine "To Go". Taste was nice too, warm and fresh. - My friend complained that there wasn't much meat in his Butter Chicken but I can't comment much to that. For the Korma at least, I thought the amount was fine to me. He was left with a lot of gravy at the end though. - The Mango Lassi comes with whipped cream on the top which I didn't know! It's not a problem, I just hadn't expected it. Should be a fun surprise for most others but just know it does mean a little extra sugar ;). - There is no tap water option, so you'll need to cough up extra for bottled water which I didn't know before coming. Overall I would say that it was an okay place. Food was pretty good but the issues mentioned before (when taking them all together) detracted a lot from our time there. I wanted to give two stars but I think most others have had positive experiences here and the food itself was pretty nice. It might be that we just came in at a weird time so I've acknowledged that and settled for three stars. Maybe I'll give it another chance in the future but I will temper expectations. read more

My wife and I had lunch today.. The beef paya, daal turka and hot off the tandoor naans were delicious and really authentic! Topped it off with awesome doodh patti chai and meetha paan! They also offer famous Karachi bun kababs, gola kababs and great Pakistani club sandwiches. Their weekend menu too is great.. in addition to the usual halwa puri etc, they also have pancakes and french toasts for the younger generation. This is such an amazing Pakistani restaurant with great ambiance and food especially delicious bbq dishes. We loved the chicken and beef bihari kababs. Also ordered bun kabab, malai boti and both were amazing. For dessert we tried kulfi and falooda and both were delicious. I have been to it couple of times with my family and their food and service is great. I have also ordered their breakfast for a large family gathering and everything (halwa,chanay, alo) were delicious. Went for lunch with my parents a few days ago. Friendly owner, nice ambience and tasty food which was served in a timely manner. Plus, food portions were decent. There is plenty of seating available. Cozy feel with decor and folk art from Pakistan depicted throughout the restaurant. I would just advise the owner to also keep Splenda/Equal/Stevia available for their customers since not everyone prefers or medically can have regular sugar. Overall great experience.
