My Favorite Fast Casual in Crown Center. The food is flavorful and made too order. The service is casual counter service. I usually pop in less then hour before they close, so sometimes the cups aren't stocked at the soda station and sometimes the appetizer is delivered the same time as the entrees, but the food is always delicious! I almost always get the chicken gyro wrap with fries, but the Falafel, Spanakopita, and Chicken or Lamb Shawarma are all tasty as well. read more

This is really great food in a place where you wouldn't expect it. (a mall) Great portions, great seasoning, good prices. The only bummer is that this place gets very overwhelmed very easily. I really can't think of anything positive to say about my visit to Zaina on a Friday mid-afternoon. I ordered the lamb shawarma wrap and fries at the counter and found a table to wait. None of the tables had been cleaned of previous diners, so I just pushed the empty glass and customer number flag to the corner of the table and assumed they would take it away and wipe down the table. When they brought my food out, I asked for ketchup since my table did not have a bottle and others did. She brought me an empty bottle, did not clear or clean the table from the previous customer and disappeared into the kitchen. After getting about a tablespoon of ketchup, I retrieved another near empty ketchup bottle off another table and made-do with 2 tablespoons of ketchup. I then realized that I didn't have a napkin after a couple of messy bites, so I went to the self-serve area for drinks - no napkins. I went to the counter - no napkins. I had to wait several minutes for someone to come out of the kitchen area to get a napkin. She still made no attempt to clear the messy table that now had 2 empty ketchup bottles lying on their side. Zaina has moved into some new digs in Crown Center. They've kept the Mediterranean-themed menu and fast casual format. The lunches are quick, decently portioned and priced well. The staff is polite and happy to help. A couple of small criticisms: The cash register is placed at the entrance. Large parties and peak time walkups can cause the line to back up fairly quickly. Please keep this in mind if you have a short lunch break. The tables and seats in the dining area are large and are set up too close to each other. I'm a "husky" gentleman and I had to take my time finding a seat because I was not able to pull out a chair at some of the tables. read more

The place was just ok, you have to wait a long time to get your food and there was barely anyone dining in there. I got the schwarma platter with marinated chicken, with schwarma seasoning on top of basmati rice and a pita bread. I didn't like it, it was really dry. I think if they would've give me some tiziki sauce it could've helped the dryness but it was almost unbearable to eat it with the rice and the dry pita bread. From what I found online, they moved March 30, 2022 into this crown center location. Honestly, this location is not ideal, there is no street side exposure to foot traffic, and most families with kids who get into the crown center get pulled away to the Fritz's next door. I don't know how many customers they get for dinner, or how many take outs/deliveries/catering events they get, but we were the only sit-down eaters at this place during a Saturday lunch time (around noon-ish to 12:30 pm). Food is pretty good, but there is no service. You order at the counter, and then go sit down and they bring out the food. You get your own drink at their fountain. We didn't find anywhere to put away the dirty dishes, otherwise we'd throw away our own trash like we do in a chick fil a, or any other similar fast food restaurants. read more

This is a hidden gem I love Mediterranean food! This brought me back to my childhood and all my favorite dishes. Ordering is easy since menu is on the wall or you can asked for one. My coworkers order the Chicken Kabobs with yellow rice, side salad, and hummus with pita. I've order a Beef/Lamb Gyro. Despite some hastily made signs and pictures of the food displayed on the window, this tucked away spot in downtown KC is a worthy stop for any Mediterranean food lovers. Growing up, downtown KC was a bit of a black hole. Sure there were workers there between 9 and 5, but the mass exodus just made it a place that I never thought would compare to any other cities I had been in. Obviously a lot has changed over the last ten years, and I love noticing these changes each time I'm surrounded by the tall buildings that make up the KC skyline. With Zaina specifically, it has that business-y, downtown lunch spot feel. There are people in suits eating by themselves glued to their phones. The decent line of people waiting to order and the "No Public Restroom" signage all adds to the fast-paced energy surrounding Zaina. The food is extremely well-priced. I had a lunch sandwich, the chicken gyro, which comes with a side - in my case, pita and hummus. The whole thing was a shade over $7. Tough to find that anywhere. Quality wise, I thought it was good. The hummus comes with a touch of spicy chili paste which always makes for a good combo in my opinion. It's not the smoothest consistency like Aladdin Cafe or others, but it still tastes great. The chicken gyro is an honest to god chicken gyro. It looks like the shaved gyro meat of the beef/lamb variety, just lighter in color and a bit lighter in flavor. The garlic yogurt sauce on it brings it to life. I used to sling sandwiches back in my day for a stretch in college and I always appreciate when someone takes the time to make it right. This one is like a nicely rolled joi..sandwich. It is each to eat and the ingredients are proportioned nicely. Is this a must-stop-can't-miss place in town? No. However it is a great, affordable quick lunch that is perfect for the business crowd or anyone else walking the downtown streets during the day, and one I'm excited to go back to. read more

Good stuff! I ate lunch here with 2 of my coworkers and it was busy around noon. We all had gyros on our minds because that was agreed upon during our daily "What's for lunch?" conversations. lol I don't think I've ever had a gyro before and if I did, then I forgot where and when I ate it. I saw gyros on the menu but the description of the shwarmas sounded better so I ordered the Shawarma Beef ($6.95) and a soda ($1.50) totaling $9.27. The Shawarma Beef came with a side so I ordered the Cabbage Soup as my side. There was a list of sides next to the cash register but I can't remember all of them. I just know that there was humus, rice, salad, and more to choose from. The line was long because there was only one person taking all the orders (and I think that was the owner but I'm not sure). We found a table and we had those number stand things so they could give us our food. It was only a few minutes before all of our orders came out. The Shawarma Beef was awesome! I liked it and it's too bad it wasn't bigger with more beef. The Cabbage Soup was okay and the other thing was okay as well. I don't know what they're called but it looked like crackers? lol My coworker ordered #3 Shawarma Platter and it looked good. She had both beef and chicken so I think I will do that next time. What an unsuspecting place in KC! Was in town for work and my office was near the courthouse where unfortunately there weren't too many fast casual places nearby for lunch. Zaina was the closest, so we ended up there one day. I was so surprised to find it there but it sure was an excellent find. They had SO many Mediterranean food options, it was really hard to pick a dish. I was going back and forth between a few options and ultimately settled on the specialty chicken kebab plate they had on the menu that day. It came with a salad, rice, and hummus. We had a big group of about 15 people and they were super good about getting our food out right in order and man was it quick! The pita was good but not great and you had to pay $8.00 extra for hummus. It doesn't come with your meal. Hummus is edible but was also thin and not flavorful. The gyro plate was inedible. The meat was overcooked. Tiny strips of meat atop the mediocre rice not like you expect from gyro meat. They serve Pepsi products and have Coke cans for sale. The service is an entire new level of bad. Person taking our order took non-stop phone calls while we placed our order. Ordered a chicken shawarma wrap with lentil soup. The food looked good, and was reasonably priced, but taste-wise nothing quite hit the mark. The bread wasn't really fresh, the chicken was a little flavorless, and the yogurt sauce was a bit too garlicky. As for the soup, there was a strong raw turmeric flavor that came through.
