The restaurant was fire and blew my taste buds away since the food was extremely good with no wait for a table on a Friday evening being even better and I got to sit outdoors in nice weather. The server was knowledgeable about which dishes to try and they recommended the beet pkhali dip so I had to give that a try. That Georgian beet dip was super good that I would order seconds. The classic hummus dip with flatbread was yummy too. The kebab platter with jujeh kabob, koobideh kabob, and adana kabob was the star of the show since all kebabs were flavorful and tender. The Persian butter rice was fire and one of the best rice dishes I've ever eaten to the point that I would eat it every day for the rest of my life. The only downsides are that it's not open during lunch and it's expensive but it's worth it. Overall, I would definitely return to this restaurant whenever I'm back in KC and I would recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting KC. So, I feel bad for dinging them a star and I'll explain in a bit. Made a reservation, cause this place is super hard to get into otherwise. Was seated immediately when we arrived. Our waitress was a sweetheart and offered drinks and apps right away. Such a cozy vibe here, it was easy to just cuddle down in the mismatched chairs and follow along. The drinks were served and they were strong and delicious. After visiting Istanbul at the start of summer, I was ready for the taste again. We ordered the pizza and the short ribs. Well, I actually ordered the lamb, but they were out of it. We also ordered the Greek Salad. The salad came first and we shared it. With the fresh veggies and warm bread, it was a great start. The pizza and the ribs came staggered. Not a deal, but I did wait on my entree while my husband ate. In the end, I stole a piece of pizza cause it looked so good. The Turkish sausage was exactly how I remembered. Yum! My short ribs came later and I repaid my husband the favor of sharing, which only left me 3 pieces of meat (started with 4 pieces). This entree is no doubt amazingly cooked, but at $30, it's a bit expensive for my liking and hardly worth the price. I could've used some salt or something also. The food wasn't bad, but ordering it to go was probably my mistake. If you want the best flavor, I definitely recommend dining in, especially if you're ordering pizza. By the time I got home, the pizza was cold and difficult to chew. I'm sure it would have been much better if it had been served fresh. The mezes were also packed together, so they ended up mixing with each other. It would be nicer if they were stored in separate containers. The chicken, however, was really good. We were told they had run out of flat bread and that if we really wanted more that they could bring some when more came out of the oven and we were like yes we will need more bread than this because our appetizer came with two of the tiniest little pieces of bread (not even the equivalent of a slice of bread), cucumbers, and a bunch of labneh dip. The server seemed mad that we wanted more bread and was not very attentive throughout our meal until the check - this may have been because we were outside. The chicken kabobs were so tasty!! Ok I found my favorite KC restaurant. Btw, the owner likes to sit up front and he informed us that their online reservation system only allows them to book 60% of the restaurant, so 99% of the time, they can accommodate for walk ins every night. Good to know because we've been trying to get in here since they opened. Their menu online is not the same menu in person. I was a little concerned looking at the online menu, thinking it was a bit odd--a ton of dips and barely any entrees or foods with sustenance, but were so happy to see their full menu. Worst service I've received locally. Very standoffish waitress who didn't want to talk to us, then completely ignored us after asking for check. No AC which was awful on a 90 degree day, and when I asked for a check due to this they treated us like we were insane and said to "plan accordingly next time we want to eat there and not to waste their time" which was genuinely insane because I was kind about it and understanding as I work service. I have tried to leave a review regarding this 2 other times and the business has deleted them so this is my third try. Don't eat here. The owners are disconnected and rude if you even have the slightest issue. Major shame because I did love the food and the service the first time I went, but this was unacceptable. "C" IS FOR CLAY AND FIRE. There's something about @clayandfirekc that surpasses just "going to dinner". It was a lovely afternoon outside on an actual front porch with birds singing and flowers blooming. The warmth from the sun and the breeze making your drink that much more refreshing--the food even more tasty. For an appetizer we shared the most delicious hummus that was paired with the best scooping utensil a girl could ask for: bread (flatbread). We also got an order of the grilled halloumi (grilled cheese!) absolutely amazing yummy goodness. My main course was the Kharcho. The short rib and polenta had so much zingy flavor and was comforted the soul. There's definitely a reason this restaurant books out weeks in advance. They don't cut corners and it's obvious they love what they do. The food is made exactly how it should be (y'all know I don't just say that either lol). If I have anything negative to say at all is that it's pretty expensive for what it is. With that said, this restaurant and food "genera"is unique to the KC area. The restaurant features foods from the Near East, which was defined by our server as Iran, Iraq, Turkey, Afghanistan, and India. Anyone from the Middle East would've been appalled at the gummy, cold rice served; my Grandmother would have sent it back. I ordered Iranian specialty Kabob Kubideh and it was ok. The jujeh (chicken brochettes) had no lemon or saffron flavors. I asked for sumac for my kubideh and it was bitter and stale, not tart as it should have been to compliment the meat. The place was cute and cozy and the staff was very friendly. However, the food should've been the shining star and it just disappointed. read more

I can't believe how cute this spot is, from the tree outside to the tiled tables, and what felt like hand-crafted chairs--it's very homely. They have heated patio seating, a wraparound bar, as well as upstairs dining. Our server Adam was amazing, very attentive and all his recommendations were great. Definitely get the mezze platter and if you want a drink, try the Mastic. You'll have to add water and ice but it's delicious. Ember eggplant ($6): Didn't expect this to be cold, but it was good. I liked this with the ezme, kebab, and rice. Kebab platter ($35): One of the kebabs tasted strangely peanutty. Not enough rice or sides to go with the kebabs. I will say that this could feed one hungry person, maybe two people, so $35 seemed a little steep compared to what a 2-kebab plate cost. Trabzon pide ($19) with egg (+$2): Not the pide shape I was expecting (doesn't make a difference; just a note because one slightly overcooked egg for the size of this pide felt disproportionate). Sublime!!! I had been wanting to try CF for over a year. Every time I look for a nearby restaurant from our worship center, it pulls CF up. It WS in fact very close and we've now found a great Sunday lunch spot. The house is super charming, that the restaurant is in. I wouldn't suggest this if you need wheelchair access or can't do steep stairs, thus won't be an option. Leg day was the day before we went and I had went heavy, unknowingly, IYKYK. We started out with the guajillio hummus and a Greek salad with two of the best crafted cocktail we had the pleasure of consuming in a fat minute; dirty martini and the nagsigi, someone needs to hook me up to an iv of this stat! It was a complex yet harmonious blend of liqueur and spices that heightened the senses in anticipation of the food to come. I'm not an alcohol drinker but this cocktail was worth the sugar and calories! Our entrees were the three kabobs and the short ribs on garlic polenta. Both were filled with the aroma of the smoke, which everything I cooked over, and it was superb. My husband had traveled extensively and lived all over the Middle East, SE Asia and Africa and the flavors and style were on point for those regions. Wednesday night and wasn't too busy and the service was very quick. Our waitress was very nice and had recommendations and comments for all our food questions. Our food was delicious and very different from other middle eastern places we have tried in the KC area. Also the owner was in and was very proud of his heritage and brought the experience to a 5 star review. If you haven't tried this place and want something different I'd recommend giving it a try. Such a nice way that you would love to go there and enjoy some time with your friends and family. They are very hospitable. We ordered the meze platter- which included six dips with pita and I got cucumber and carrots since I'm GF. Our favorite was the ember eggplant. We also got the kebab trio. The seasoned onions and the grilled tomato were nice additions to the kebabs and rice. My favorite item was the onion soup. It was flavorful, I anticipate wanting more in the near future. I've been fascinated by the building this restaurant occupies for many years, back when it was the home of Fox and Pearl (now a few blocks further south on Summit). It's taken me too many years to get here for a meal, and after the great meal I had - I'm a little ashamed of myself for not persevering earlier. It's a terrific venue for a really wonderful little restaurant. We came here before a show at the Kauffman Center, and it's very convenient for anyone needing to pop in before an event. My wife and I split a few small plates, a kebab, and a few drinks. Everything was expertly turned out, and it was one of the most satisfying meals I've had in a long time. Flavorful dishes, beautifully seasoned, and generous portions. The owner was hanging out at the bar downstairs, and was keen to find out what we'd had and what our experience was...and it was great to be able to tell him that we had a great meal and enjoyable experience.
