It was served with my choice of side dish, and I selected a Greek salad. The salad was very simple, but utterly delicious and the dressing was perfect. It was also served on the side so I could control the amount. The dolmades or grape leaves were extra extraordinary. I love it when they have that little acid or lemon taste. These did not, but were still exceptional. My wife will love them! I can't wait to come back here and try other things on the menu. Very excited about this place. read more

I came to this place maybe about four years ago and for a local Greek restaurant, it was pretty good. The service was great especially with the lady at the front and the food was pretty good as well. Now I came back to Missouri around a week ago to stop by and visit some family and I decided to come by a check out the place again. Needless to say the service was still great and the food definitely improved. The gyro meat has more flavor than it did 4 years ago and the hummus was much better and not as clumpy. Named after a classic 1960 Hollywood film (set in Greece, and starring Melina Mercouri), this very-Greek restaurant tucked into a South KC strip mall has very legit Greek fare, and the staff is very kind, plus the food is I'd say 4.5 stars (not quite perfect or super inexpensive). I especially enjoyed the grape leaves, which sets NOS apart from many other Greek restaurants in my experience. I'd rate service at 5 solid stars. They really seem to care, unlike so many places that forget how important food is to hungry ppl, or forget to include utensils if I requested them. Generous portions of your selection of meat, fresh vegetables, and the Pita is excellent, fluffy and flavorful! Customer service was great! Let's start there. The young lady behind the plexiglass was super nice and helpful. Now...the food. The food was mediocre at best. The appetizer came after the entrees did. The spanakopita tasted like it was made with greens and was just a hair spicy. The hummus was VERY thick, almost to the point of clumpy. The salad and dressing was very good. The rice was definitely bland. But the beef sambusa.... Chef's kiss!!! I've been working in the area for about 5 years now... and cannot believe that I had never been here before! I am so glad to have stumbled across this modest but delicious venue for a work lunch! The setup is simple - you order at the counter and your food is brought out to you moments afterwards. There is a nice variety of options for both meat eaters and veggie-lovers combined! The sandwich is generous in its meat cuts - my gyros was overflowing with juicy cuts of fresh meat - which, mind you, was nice and thickly sliced. The pita bread is soft, warm and just perfect. The feta salad was only ok - the noodles were soaked and the salad had that - I've been sitting around in a tub kind of flavor. My co-worker went for the falafel and was very pleased - I noticed the falafel were green on the inside - which is a good sign in my book... I've never met a green falafel I did not like... I ended up going back to the counter to satisfy my sweet tooth and ordered some baklava - I think this baklava is made way in advance and stored cold... honestly was not my favorite, but I will be back to this venue for lunch again! read more

My traditional gyro with small side salad special ($7.25) was brought to my table just seven minutes after I ordered at the counter. The salad was tasty and chilled with fresh veggies, while the gyro had a generous amount of warm, moist, tasty, perfectly cooked meat on warm, fresh flatbread. Tasty salad dressing and delicious chilled tzatziki were on the side (nice). The dining area was clean, but dated, with pleasant Greek background music, and a TV. I should have gotten around to writing this place a review sooner since I've eaten their food quite a few times. ATMOSPHERE: NOS is a single open room with a pickup counter. It's located within a strip mall complex. SERVICE: The staff here are always nice. No issues yet. FOOD: So far they serve my favorite Greek food in the KC Metro. I've had their lamb and beef gyros, falafel, spanakopita, and baklava. All have been great. Their French fries in particular are oddly good; very crispy on the outside but perfect on the inside. Somewhat recently I wrote a scathing review of Royal Gyros in Belton, and I stand by what I said. If you want bigger portions and better food, drive the extra distance to this place. You will not regret it. VALUE: Great bang for the buck. You get a lot of food for what you pay, and it's good quality too. A gyro and side (included) alone will leave you full. read more

Got the combo plate and the gyro meat was dry and the pita was soggy from liquid from the dolmades. The tiropita was absolutely delicious. I hesitate to share my SECRET place for good, quick food, but it is too good not to share. They deserve a steady business. Since they have revamped the restaurant in recent years, service is always excellent and the food is very fresh. I first went here many years ago and it definitely needed a little uplift. In the last year or so, I have placed many online orders and they are always ready when I pick them up and they also have DELIVERY! which is very convenient. They are less expensive and better than the chain Greek place that I have visited on the other side of the state line. I like that they have some healthy options. My only suggestion is that they update their online menu and add some better pictures and descriptions. They don't really describe the food well and they don't say what is included in a combo or a "dinner", for instance. Love it! read more

I love having the option to add fries here sadly no other Greek restaurant I've been to offer fries as an option. The Greek salad is fabulous and full of fresh i ingredients. The gyro is so delicious and the pita bread holds together very well. I'm obsessed with the hot sauce they have at this restaurant it goes great with their falafel for an extra kick. I'm just lucky that there's a place in my neck of the woods that has excellent Gyros (found elsewhere among my reviews). If you read the bad reviews before trying this place, do yourself a favor and pay attention. I wouldn't say this is terrible, but...I like the review in which someone said that everything is microwaved. Maybe this is why the food was bland. Also, I've been to run down restaurants, but usually the bathrooms are somewhat clean. There wasn't any soap, yet there was a sign about how one should wash hands to avoid spreading germs---Ironic! Spanakopita should be flaky and crisp given it's made with filo dough, Not soggy and kinda warm. I ordered a mix plate with a side of hummus. I was not a fan of the hummus tasted like it came straight out of the Manischewitz box. Dolmas were on my plate as well and they were pretty darn good. But the whole time I was eating my palate would go from YUMMY to YUCKY. Also if you're working the front counter handling my food please don't go out front, smoke where everyone can see you and then return to the counter w/o washing your hands. I came here in the afternoon on New Year's Eve. I've passed by this place many times and have been wanting to try it, despite the not-so-stellar reviews. Unfortunately, it was not very good. I walked in, and was loudly greeted right away. I ordered the Souvlaki platter with chicken, which is a kebob grilled on rice with a greek salad and pita bread. I waited for my order, which was ready pretty quickly. Like other reviewers have said, I heard the microwave beep as I was waiting, indicating that one (or more) items in my meal were re-heated. I drove home a few miles down the road and opened my meal. The chicken was cooked perfectly, but everything else was downhill from there. The rice was severely overcooked and tasteless. The greek salad was lame -- iceberg lettuce with a few olives and a small amount of feta cheese. The pita bread was fine. I did not finish the rice because it was so overdone. It did come with some dressing and tzatziki sauce, which both were not bad. I really wish it came with some hummus for the pita bread. I wish this place was better because it is so close to where I live, but unfortunately it was not good. I have had much better Greek food, and would rather drive 10 more minutes to go get it.
