Update: Stopped by after my mom's physical therapy--she'd been craving chicken gyro meat, and post-COVID this is basically the only spot in the greater OP area that still does it. Kudos! Chicken Gyro (no tzatziki) - Large, well-grilled pita with tomatoes. Simple and solid--this is why we came. It delivered for her--she was in a full-on food coma after. (4/5) Beef/Lamb Gyro - Enormous--one of the biggest I've had. Nice grilled crust on the pita, tasty meat. (4/5) Wish it came with diced onions, and the tomatoes were diced instead of sliced. Tzatziki is a bit thinner and slightly off from what I'm used to. But on mine, there was some on the sandwich and a side--hadn't seen that before. It actually worked well, kept the meat moist--without making it mushy--and let me add more as needed. Added sambal for heat, which helped. Kebab Platter - Mixed bag. Steak kebab was solid (medium rare), minced kebab was decent (in between), chicken was just okay. Rice was very dry--I think I noticed some sumac on top, but either way it didn't help. The salad was excellent--fresh with a lot of pop. Not something I'd order again, but if I did, I'd eat the salad with the rice and kebabs instead of starting with it. It adds the moisture and pop the rest of the plate is missing. That said, each component should stand on its own. (3/5) Overall: 4/5 Gyros carry. Salad and steak kebab were nice, but the platter didn't land. I'd stick to gyros or just do a steak kebab plate next time. read more

Quite an unassuming place. Decent food with good service. Not a bad choice for mediterranean food. The stuffed grape leaves were easily the worst part of my experience. Cold dolmas can be wonderful but not when they're essentially frozen. The grape leaves were so cold that the bed of half-wilted lettuce underneath turned into ice! Not to mention the thin, tiny size of them! Unfortunately, these were some of the worst stuffed grape leaves I've had. On the other hand, the chicken kabob wrap was excellent! Stopped by the Mediterranean Taste for a Gyro. It was outstanding. Lots of very flavorful meat, good pita and extra sauce on the side. This was really big. I can't say it is the best in town, because I have not been to every Mediterranean place, but of all the ones I have been to it was clearly the best. I will be going back to try some other items. The place is small and has about six tables. The owners are very friendly and helpful answering any questions. Just a fund place to go to for an excellent gyro. What a cool spot to have in Leawood!!! Authentic family run business. Walk up to the counter, order, and then they bring the food out. Small restaurant has about 6 tables. Had the hummus appetizer and the beef gyro sandwich and chicken shawarma sandwich. Fresh food and quality ingredients. Least favorite dish we ordered was the "spicy salad" which is basically Mexican "pico de gallo" salsa and pita chips. Won't order that again. However the highlight of the meal was the BAKLAVA CHEESECAKE!!! This was AMAZING and something I will be craving after we leave. We loved Mediterranean Taste! It was fresh, affordable, and the owner was so nice! We ordered the baba ganoush to start. It had a smoky flavor which is something I've never had in a baba ganoush. It was different but I really enjoyed it. It was served with more than enough pita bread! The chicken gyro sandwich was so full. It was overflowing with meat and veggies! FPO and I were continuing our exploration of Kansas. We spent the morning at the Deanna Rose Children's Farmstead and went looking for a new restaurant in the area. I Yelped Mediterranean Taste and we thought we'd give it a try. Located in Overland Park, it's in a little shopping complex discretely between Joy Wok and a coffee shop with a bison on the sign. Mediterranean Taste's sign is diagonal to the parking lot and we missed it on the first pass. When we walked in we saw a small place, four tables and a counter with desserts on the left and gelato on the right. We were greeted right away and service was friendly and very welcoming. Because we were dining in we were able to order a Hummus/Baba Ghanouj split as an appetizer. FPO got the Mix Kabob Plate ($16.99) and I splurged and got the Beef Lamb Gyro Plate ($14.99). Both had amazing flavor and was very tender, amazingly tasty. FPO also got a Lemon Mint Smoothie ($5.29) and I got a bottled Yoghurt Drink ($2.79). The smoothie was sweet and refreshing. I'd never had a yoghurt drink before and it wasn't what I'd expected. It was salty and tangy and I was pleasantly surprised to find I liked it. It went well with the meal. Then, it was time for dessert. We were initially interested in the gelato but that quickly derailed in the face of their dessert case. They have an amazing baklava cheesecake with filo dough shavings and dried rose petals ($6.99). So good we bought another slice to take out along with an assortment of baklava and a tiramisu jar. Haven't tried those yet, but I expect them to be spectacular too. All in all it was a great experience and we will absolutely go back again. read more

The salad tasted very fresh and loved the dressing. The meat was good in a full combination of beef and lamb on a bed of rice with 4 pieces of pita. This new restaurant served up delicious food with great service during my dine-in lunch visit. My grilled chicken plate ($12.99) included rice, salad and tzatziki sauce. It was made to order and served with a smile just 12 minutes after I ordered at the counter. The salad had a delicious, tangy dressing on fresh veggies, while the chicken was perfectly cooked and nicely seasoned. I also tried a piece of baklava, and it was wonderful. I stumbled across this hidden gem trying to find a quick non fast food meal in between going from one job to another. Here is the best part, it's a mom and pop shop restaurant owned by a husband and wife! They are both super sweet and nice, their warming hospitality gave off such a homey feeling. My entire experience here from start to finish was very delightful. The prices are VERY reasonable and you definitely get your bank for your buck lol hopefully I quoted that correctly lol. I decided to dine in once I was inside and ordered my food and saw it was available seating. I tried the mix plate of the kebabs, 1. Chicken, 1. Lamb and 1. Oh my gosh this place is good! I had heard how good it was from some family members, and I am so glad I came in here today. Not only was the service incredible, but everything we ate was exceptional! I had two chicken kebabs with tzatziki sauce, plus the spicy salad. My friend and I shared the hummus appetizer. It might be the best hummus I have ever had, and the spicy salad was totally addictive. The chicken kebab was super flavorful and very tender... My neighbors have been raving about this place so it has been on my radar for a while, and I am thrilled that we finally made it over there today- and it totally lived up to the hype! The staff who run it and work there are so kind and welcoming, and answered any questions we had about the menu. Myy mom got the beef and lamb gyro and she couldn't get over how tender and melt in your mouth the meat was. I got the chicken Shawarma platter and had the same experience. The chicken was super tender and perfectly seasoned. Both of our dishes were quite large, so we happily brought home leftovers, and we wanted to save room for desserts too. They have a big selection of gelato and a dairy case full of various treats. My mom got a chocolate covered strawberry. I got a cream puff, which was the only thing I wouldn't order again- it was not as flavorful as I would've hoped and the cream puff itself was dry. I got the baklava cheesecake to take to my daughter who is a cheesecake obsessive. Fadi, who is the owner and was helping us, said that I better watch out because if my daughter likes cheesecake she's going to get addicted to this cheesecake!
