Yum!! How have I not heard that this is legitimately THE BEST gyro around? I did hear the falafels here are unreal, but I can only eat so much at a time. Definitely in my next order. I work in the area, so they will be getting my lunch money frequently. Probably best for my wallet that I've only just discovered this place. I ordered takeout but would 100% sit in and have lunch with friends/family. Very cute. It looks like it might be a father/son working there. The gentlemen were very nice, and who doesn't love supporting a family owned business! Very nice selection and authentically run by actual Lebanese folks. Got a traditional gyro at a fair price and decent size. Beef and lamb mixture with a nice crispiness to it and plenty of tzatziki (perfect tang and creaminess). Pita it was wrapped in was on the thin side. Also tried the walnut baklava which was flakey and large for only $3. A little on the dry side, could've used more honey and walnut filling. Service was very friendly and nice. Tiny little joint but ample seating. Don't pass this place by, as it is off the main street and easy to miss. read more

Today was my first visit to Zaitooni Deli. I live a couple of blocks away and it's been on my list bc of all of the positive reviews. I totally understand the positive reviews! I had the baba ganoush and the lamb/beef gyro. The baba ganoush tasted really fresh and delicious. The gyro was probably one of the most flavorful gyros I've had. The meat was SO flavorful! I really like the thin pita they use as well. The gentleman behind the counter was very friendly and very accommodating. I'm looking forward to try some more dishes here. We were in town to visit Jay & Silent Bob's Secret Stash and happened to walked by this deli on a side street between the parking garage and Broad St. I'm glad we did, because we really enjoyed our lunch here. I got a platter with kibee with yogurt, tabouli, grape leaves, and string beans. The kibee was moist with a mild flavor. The tabouli was good, but I'm not generally crazy for tabouli, so I can't speak much to that. I was given the choice between meat or veg grape leaves; I went with meat, which were yummy umami comfort food. But, the star for me were the string beans. Such a simple recipe - string beans, sauteed onions, garlic, lemon juice, and olive oil - created the first string bean dish I've ever been excited about. I plan to recreate it at home, and I bet it would taste just as good as a cold, picnic dish. Husband got the falafel platter with humous, tahini, and tabouli. He liked the tabouli and the hot sauce that was offered with it. He also enjoyed the falafel. He doesn't like yogurt, but didn't think to ask them to hold the yogurt; even so, he actually liked the way the yogurt soaked into the falafel. This is a small deli with a refrigerated case full of sodas, Gatorade, etc. It's a small store with a few tables, but comfortable enough. The lady behind the counter was friendly. Portions are generous. We ate too much to even get to try the desserts! Overall, we're glad we found this quiet little spot. read more

This little deli sits tucked off Broad street, unpretentiously achieving some of the best Mediterranean food this Mediterranean-food-loving-girl has ever enjoyed. Order the platters so you can taste everything, because you shouldn't come here and not taste everything. I ordered a Kibbeh platter which came with kibbeh (warm and crumbly, seasoned perfectly with speckles of cinnamon), velvety fresh hummus and baba ganoush, tabbouleh, creamy cold yogurt sauce and a side of pita. I found you tucked away in NJ Mediterranean restaurants can not hide from me. I have to find my falafel and if your good I will tell the world! This is a really nice little gem hidden here and I am not even sure where I am. I was traveling with my cousin who lives on the Jersey shore so I know we are close to Seabright NJ. Red Bank is where Zaitooni is located and they have some great authentic Mediterranean dishes here. The baklava was sooo gooey and delicious as it should be. I really enjoyed the hummus and tabouli because you can tell they made this fresh. I will seek this place out again when I come back soon. read more

Unlike Italian delis where much of the fare is made weeks or months earlier, everything at Zaitooni is made fresh on site. They have fantastic gyros as well as a number of other middle eastern foods and desserts. read more

This warm, inviting family owned deli is an oasis in a sea of pretentious crap in Red Bank, NJ. It has heart, and you can certainly feel it. Every time im in da Bank, I make sure I stop in for a hearty portion of hummus with kalamata olives and a big falafel sandwich. Though it's not the best (or cheapest) falafel I've ever had, it's good, especially for the area. I have no complaints about the hummus.They also have a huge, unique drink selection with many varieties of tea and fun soft drinks. It's a little off the beaten path, down a side street off Main. Find it and eat. It's ten times better than anything else you'll find in the area and it won't empty your wallet. read more

OMG! So excited to find this place. I just had one of their meat pies and it's the closest thing to my Lebanese grandmother's outside of Bay Ridge. Hands down My favorite Mediterranean restaurant at the shore. The owners here make all their great dishes from scratch. As I I've mentioned in past reviews. I love small mom and pop shops and this is one of the best. The food here is fresh and taste amazing. The prices you really can't beat considering you're in downtown red bank. My favorite thing to do is to order a bunch of stuff from the appetizer portion and share. The stuffed grape leaves are great, chibi, mousakka, the chicken sandwich is prob the best out there. Their hummus is so fresh and creamy you'll never look at store bought hummus the same. It is byob so you can come and enjoy your dinner with a great Malbec and then stroll downtown on a nice summer. I can't think of anything better. There is limited seating though. About 4 tables and it says they're a deli because they are. So don't expect fine dining. My one and only quip is if you're eating in, the bathroom is through the kitchen, tiny, cramped, and really needs attention. My final deliberation is def go check them out eat in or take out. In Riverview to have our daughter...last evening here we decided to get Mediterranean for dinner and gave them a shot considering how close it was to the hospital. We ordered to go: 2 greek salads with chicken, spinakopita, lamb & beef gyro, & stuffed grape leaves (meat). All of it was PHENOMENAL. Oh man, new favorite. After having passed by many times I finally stopped in to get some to go food and now I'm kicking myself for not having gone in sooner. I'm a falafel enthusiast and theirs is just about perfect- flavorful, perfect texture, and in sandwich form the exact right balance of condiments and fixings on the soft pita it is served on. The babaghanouj is also rave-worthy: the high level of smokiness gives away the care that went into making it and I really liked the pronounced olive/ olive oil flavor. I always loved visiting NYC and getting some good falafel or gyros. Well, now it's right in town and even better than NYC. It is all fresh homade food. The hummus is really good too. I often get a big batch of it to bring to a party. Good stuff. I highly recomend. The only bad thing, and only reason this review does not have 5 stars, is their hours. They close at 6pm M-Th, and 8pm on F-Sat. I do not get home from work until 6pm, and similarly I do not eat dinner until after 8 on Friday or Saturday nights. I have no idea why this was spot was not on my radar as I have eaten my way through most of Monmouth County, but this place is a GEM. When I think about baba ghanoush, I think about Zaitooni, it's the BEST! 5 stars for their food. Smoky flavor and always fresh! Everything they make is fresh. They've been in business about 2 or 3 years and it's still freshly made, daily! Their dolmas are both stuffed with meat and another without meat. Their lebnah cheese is, ahh, so wonderfully fresh! Tabouli salad is great! Reasonable price and worth going! Whenever I need to go to a party or a dinner at a friend's home, I usually go there to pick up an order of baba ghanoush, tabouli salad or dolmas. The woman that's there everyday is a very sweet woman and always there for you and if you ever need anything made, she'll do that for ya! One thing i wish for her to do is make her hummus a bit more garlicky, but it's still very goood! Go and give it a try, it's worth the trip. This place is a staple in my takeout repertoire. It's family owned and operated, and these folks are super nice and always friendly. The food is fresh and authentic, and the menu is full of delicious Middle Eastern choices. My favorites include the hummus sandwich and the fatoush salad. There is something about za'tar in the salad dressing that makes it really unique, savory, and delicious. Do not leave without a piece of baklava - you can choose from at least 4 or 5 different varieties made with different nuts. I went there for lunch with a coworker after looking up affordable vegetarian food in the area and am so glad I found this place. It's tucked away just off the main drag so it is easy to miss. I had the babaghanouj sandwich on a a pita and my coworker had the humous on a pita. Both of our meals were delicious. We were both able to eat for under $20 including drinks and left feeling full and satisfied. I will definitely be back next time we want to go out for lunch and will be trying their spicy humous sandwich. There were some regular customers in there getting lunch which is always a good sign. It's small so my guess is seating could be an issue if they are crowded but we were there right at lunch time and were able to grab a table. read more
